Reporting Services :: Printing Reports On Separate Pages

May 18, 2015

I must confess it has been a long time since I have done any SSRS reporting.  I have the following SQL Statement (I will change it to a stored Procedure with parameters once I get the design done):

SELECT
rc.wo_id,
rc.process_id,
rc.item_id,
rc.lot_no AS full_lot_no,
rc.oper_id, rc.seq_no,
CAST(la.attr_value AS DECIMAL(12, 2)) AS weight,

[Code] ....

This gives me the data I want which looks like this:

Rework ID              Ingot           Oper ID        Piece         Rework
28                          xxxxxx14           5                   M88           Route 1
55                         xxxxxxx15           5                   B106          Route 2
79                         xxxxxxx19           5                    M68            Route 3
164                       xxxxxx234           5                    T16             Route 4
                            xxxxxx234           5                     B82             Route 4

The grouping is on the Rework ID.  Any of the pieces can be put on any rework route.  As you can see, there are 4 routes, but 5 pieces.  What I need is for each rework ID to be printed on its own paper even if there is only 1 record for the route.  So I would expect 4 pieces of paper, 3 with 1 record, the 4th with two pieces.  Is there a setting in the Tablix or report that I can set, or is there an expression I can use?

Headers Printing On Separate Pages

May 11, 2007

I am having a problem with headers printing on separate pages. I have a report in RS 2000 that consists of 4 tables. Each table has several tables embedded within the table. The report has a header and each main table has two headers. The report layout is 11in. x 8.5in. with margins of 0.05in. The view space of the report is 10.2125in. Doing the math, I am withing the bounds of the paper; however, when I export to PDF, the report header and a legend table prints on the first page, the first table header prints on the second page, the second table header prints on the third page, the first data row prints on the fourth page and the rest of the table prints on the next page or several pages as needed. This repeats for the subsequent tables because I have the table property set to Insert page break after this table. I also have Repeat header rows on each page checked. I am at a loss as to why this continues to happen.

Transact SQL :: Printing Report - Capture Actual Pages In A Duplex Printing Job

Aug 10, 2015

So I have been asked by our sustainability person to create report from our printing data that actually shows the number of pieces of paper used. This is easy enough for single-sided printing, but when printing in duplex the software does not take into account that 3 printing pages actually equates to 2 pieces of paper. I know this sounds simple, but say I have a print job record that looks like this:

Submitted printed total_pages duplex
8/10/2015 8/10/2015 42 1

This is a print jobs that if done correctly is actually 21 pages( duplex printing). If the job is say total_pages =5 I cant just divide by 2 because its actually using 3 pieces of paper ( yes they are wanting this data don't ask why). How can I adjust some sql to accurately depict 5 pages, front and back, as 3 pieces of paper?

How Can I Use Reporting Services On ASP.NET Pages?

Printing In Reporting Services Hangs

Jul 3, 2007

Please Help!!!

We have never been able to get the printing to work on any of our reports using SQL Server Reporting Services 2005 SP2 in our production environment. Without this feature of printing a report, we cannot go live with SSRS at all.

We have tried adding the SP2 after a clean install on a new server -- yet we still have this problem.

I read a few some posts about uninstall the old ActiveX control used for printing, so I did this and installed the new
one but that didn't help either.

We can print to files without issue - only when we try to print to a real printer does it hang forever.

It doesn't matter how big the report is, 100 pages or 1/4 of a page, same problem.

We do the following:

1) Run the report
2) Click the print button
3) Select a printer and press ok
4) "Printing Now..." dialog box appears
5) "Print Error" dialog appears and never goes away - and nothing is printed out.
Have to close IE and crash the report session to get out of it.

This is the result on every client computer we have ever used in trying to access
the report server.

It also hangs in running a Print Preview for all reports.

We are printing to network printers from IE6 and IE7.

Since this is on a server, we do not have a local printer to this server computer to try to print to.
Even if it worked on a local printer, this is supposed to be an enterprise solution.
Almost all of our employees print to network printers.

I am logged into my machine as a domain admin. I have no printing problems
in any program printing to any printer, except when using Reporting Services.

We are trying to print from an ASP web application which runs the reports in an iframe using URL access.

We are able to print the same reports on all of our development environments using the same ASP web application and RDL.

Again, Please help!!!

Duplex Printing In Reporting Services

Sep 13, 2007

I have been working on this problem for days. I have a report that is grouped
and will be printed duplex (front and back). There is a page break after each
group. I want to ensure that the start of a new group does not end up printed
on the back side of an old group. For example:

Page 1 (printed on front side of paper): group 1
Page 2 (printed on back side of paper): more group 1
Page 3 (printed on front side of paper): more group 1
Page 4 (printed on on back side of paper): group 2 <--- This is a problem

I need:

Page 1 (front side): group 1
Page 2 (back side): more group 1
Page 3 (front side): more group 1
Page 4 (back side): <This Page Intentionally Left Blank>
Page 5 (front side): group 2

Issues that I've run into include the fact that SSRS renders the entire body
first, before rendering the header/footer. This prevents the body of the
report from knowing which page it will end up on when it is rendered (and is
also why you cannot reference Globals!PageNumber from the body).

The restriction above also prevents using a variable in custom code to know
when to generate a page break. If you set this variable in the header/footer
then the body will never see it as the entire body is rendered first and will
therefore only see the initial state of the variable.

I have seen this issue posted in a number of places,
but no one ever has a solution to this (except switching back to
Crystal Reports). Have any MVPs ever addressed this issue? I am
really hoping someone can offer a good solution or work-around.

Comparison Of SQL Server Reporting Services To Access Reports, Crystal Reports, Cognos Or Other Options

Nov 5, 2007

Hello SQL Server Experts, Data Analysts, and Report Writers et al:

re: Reporting Options with SQL Server

I wanted to propose an offshoot to the pryor thread:

Would anyone take a stab at comparing Access Reports, Crystal Reports,
Cognos or other options to all the Reporting Services and its components offered as part ofSQL Server, especially as to extracting data from SQL Server into a report format?

I guess this is a far as capabilites, ease of use, limitations, and especially formatting
or presentation of the end report product?

Thank you to all, and I hope this is a beneficial discussion to others.

I am  building a report with 3 tablixs using SQL Server 2008. Tablix 3 is long and spans over 3 pages. I am trying to get the header for the  to remain visible on all pages and as we scroll through the end of each page. Now this is a frequently asked question and I have found the approach to achieve the desired results. All approaches involve clicking in the advanced mode of the row and column groups to modify the static and dynamic groups. However, when I click the advanced mode there is no effect. I have attached a picture of the design mode. The tablix3 is grouped by the Department column.

SQL Reporting Services Performance On Navigation Pages.

Sep 17, 2007

I am experimenting with SQL Reporting Services on a machine with SQL Server 2005 loaded and deploying
reports to a different server. both servers are equivalent in resources.

In the browser on the Reports machine when I first go to the Reports address, it takes a very long time
to build and load the page. it then takes a long time for each drilled down page. Subsequent calls to the same
pages are very fast if done within a certain amount of time. This implies that there must be some form of
caching going on and that the cache expires after a period of time. I have seen in the RSReportserver.config
file that there are parameters relating to report caching, but they all appear to reference the actual reports being
generated. My issue is simply being able to build the start page and other navigation more quickly and to
keep it active so it does not have to perform that build each time.

Any information related to managing this situation would be very much appreciated..

Thank you, Ray

Reporting Services :: Blank Pages In Report Preview?

Aug 1, 2005

I wrote a report today containing one grouping.  Everything appears all right in the report preview, except that every other page is "blank", i.e., shows only the page header and page footer; all grouping and detail information is missing.

The data on the page following the blank page seems to pick up where the previous non-blank page left off, so all information seems to be present within the report. The report width and height properties are typical portrait-style  -- 8.5 x 11 inches.  The columns do not "run off the edge" of the report page boundary.  I haven't selected any page break for the grouping, as the grouping detail is typically only a few rows long, and would otherwise result in a very large number of pages.

But I need to be able to print multiple master records, ie use the same form to print more than one record from the master table. I can pass more than one ID and change the Stored proc to return more than one master record, which I believe, with the addition of a page marker, will produce a multiple form report - but what about the tables which display multiple records for each ID? Does reporting Services understand the relationship between the tables and and restrict the tables on each page to the ID?David

Rendering Separate Pages

can anyone tell me, how does Reporting Services work in the following scenario:

There is a report with multiple pages (eg. 50 pages). The user runs the report.

Question: What is transferred from the Reporting Services server to the client desktop ? all pages or just the first one ?

Background> I don't want to let the user wait until all pages are received (because he may be interested only in the first one and the jump to the last one and that is all he wants to see)

Any ideas are appreciated.

Everything works ok on the query side, I get all the information I need on all the people and the courses they have taken. However, when I run the report, I do not get a separate page for each person and their relative information. The first page shows the first name and the rest of the 700 pages list all the courses and other information, with no break. How do I render the report so that I can get a separate page(s) for each person and their specific info? I can glady provide more info/code if need be.

Slow Performance When Rendering Pages In SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services

Jul 3, 2007

I have designed a fairly simple report in report designer that uses an analysis services cube as its input, and a basic matrix object as the primary design component. Cube performance either via object browser in Analysis Services or via connection from Excel is great. It does exactly what you build a cube for, i.e. it builds aggregations you can get to quickly. However rendering from a report designer report within Report Manager is a different story.

Even though this report is being rendered from an execution snapshot, it is painfully slow at opening and closing different levels of drill down. The report does have six levels of drill down, which I am sure is a factor. If I use a smaller dataset, performance does become more acceptable. However, I don't consider the requirements of my report to be all that extraordinary.

My conclusion thus far is that larger data sets with many possible page renderings are not the best candidates for HTML rendered reports. In this case Microsoft's cube analysis add-in to Excel might be a better choice. Thoughts and feedback on either how to improve the rendering speed or other presentation alternatives that would perform better would all be welcome.
