Reporting Services :: Report Fails With COM Exception
Nov 5, 2015
I have a particular report that fails to run. In the browser, the following is shown when the report is run:The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. There is an error in XML document (1, 84459).'', hexa decimal value 0x01, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 84459.
When I look into the SSRS logs, I find the following:
library!ReportServer_0-125!6dc0!11/05/2015-08:40:58:: Call to GetPropertiesAction(/PathTo/MyReports/MyReport by Hour, PathBased).
library!ReportServer_0-125!1d34!11/05/2015-08:40:59:: Call to GetSystemPermissionsAction().

There are no other system logs at the corresponding time of this failure.Other reports that use the same data source run fine. This problem is confined to a few reports within a larger report set. The reports are provided by a third-party so I don't have a lot of insight to what the report is actually doing. This is running on SSRS 2008 R2.
We are facing an issue where the report rendering for specific report parameters is failing with an exceptionÂ
Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.UnhandledReportRenderingException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.UnhandledReportRenderingException: An error occurred during rendering of the report. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.OnDemandReportRendering.ReportRenderingException: An error occurred during rendering of the report. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.SPBProcessing.Tablix.TablixContext.CalculateDetailCell(PageItem topItem, Int32 colIndex, Boolean collect, PageContext pageContext)

The server is running in Native mode. We tried restarting the services and also verified the disk space. Neither of them worked. The ExecutionLog3 table in the "ReportServer" database shows a rrenderingError as the report execution status. Report rendering with Excel format works fine.We enabled verbose logs and they are shared here. URL....
I've been reading a lot of posts on this subject. I understand that the issue is due to the fact that the subreport is only rendered once. So after the main report is sorted on another column, the cell with the subreport produces an error.
What I want to know is whether or not this is considered a defect. And if it is a defect, is it fixed in another version?
I am currently running SSRS SQL2008R2 SP2 (20.50.4000.0)
Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report 2. IP address of user agent 3. Identity of current user 4. Date/Time of the failed attempt

I have installed SP2 successfully a number of times before, but always where the Report Server and the Report Server databases were on the same box. This is the first time trying to install the Service Pack where the Report Server is on server X and the databases are on server Y.
When I try to run the SP (on server X), I get the following message:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I am logged in using a domain account that is a local admin on both servers (and also the SQL Server startup account on server Y). It is also the account used by the Report Server to connect to the RS databases. The startup account for the Report Server service is 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
Hi, This may be a trivial question but neither SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services SP1 or SP2 wil install against our SQL Server 2005 Developer edition installation.
Our Version: Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.3027.00
Does anyone know whether the Services Packs are for SQL Server 2000 only? if so, whether the new functionality in SP2 will be made available to SQL Server 2005?
I just created a report builder. I have a main report and i wanted to create a sub report. why i cant or i cant view the path or the folder of my .rdl file to be use as my sub report.
Our DBA has installed reporting services on a server and now in order to access the report manager, one has to be an Admin on that Server. I am guessing that there is a mistake in the configuration of Reporting Services. Usually it should allow anybody who was added to the roles in the properties section of the Report Manager, right? I have also added the users to the DB..
Also I am using Windows Authentication to access Report Catalog items (Reporting Services is installed on Server2) from a web Application(deployed on Server1) and displaying the report using report viewer. For some reason, server1 has to be in an Admin role on Server2 to access the report catalog/report. This is kinda strange for me as I don't want everybody to be an Admin on Server2. Can anybody please point in the right direction?
Hi all, i am tring to install and configure reporting services in Windows 2003 SP2- 64 bit machine as part of installing SCE 2007, and i followed the procedure for confiurng all the options in reportingservices config tool,
all the options show green flag and still could not proceed further as the following error is coming
"The Selected Sql server reportin service instance is not configured , please configure to continue" which halts the further process,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 edition and installed Sql server 2005 SP2 also,
I can run the following query in Management Studio, but get the error listed below when I run it from the data tab in Reporting Services:
declare @starttime as datetime declare @endtime as datetime declare @timezone as integer declare @date as datetime
set @timezone = 1 set @date = '5/1/2007'
set @starttime = dateadd(hh, @timezone, @date) set @endtime = dateadd(d, 1, @starttime)
select @Starttime, @endtime from site

What I am trying to accomplish is the ability for users to select which time zone they want the data in the report to display in. To do this, I created a timezone parameter that has the offset from Central Time (which is how all data is stored in our database).
I'm using the System Center Essential 2007 VHD (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=91061). It has an SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services installed as a named instance, SCEVHDSCE. I tried to upgrade the SQL Server to Enterprise Edition, because some of the reports are not working in Express. I started the setup with the SKUUPGRADE=1 switch, it found the SQL Engine and Reporting Services components and offered to upgrade them. Upgrading the SQL Engine was successful, however the Reporting Services failed with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4Reporting ServicesReportServer ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
I checked the file, it exists and the current account (which is a domain administrator) has permissions. I stopped all services which could use the reporting services, rerun the setup now only for reporting services, but the same error occured. For the third try I started Filemon also, and it captured the following trace. http://mit.bme.hu/~micskeiz/files/sql-rs-install-error.jpg From this I guess the following: until row 442 it checks the existense of the target folder and creates the folder for the upgraded instance in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4. In step 443 probably it wants to copy the old config, but it searches them in the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2 folder, which should be the location of a default reporting services install. However, the setup of System Center Essentials installs its SQL Server Express Reporting Services in C:Program FilesSystem Center Essentials 2007Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2, thus the setup fails because it is looking for rssrvpolicy.config in the wrong folder. Do I see the problem correctly? The setup log can be found here: http://mit.bme.hu/~micskeiz/files/SQLSetup0005_SCEVHD_RS.log
I tried to do a command line install, but I did not found a switch to tell the old location of Reporting Services. Neverthless I tried the following command: D:>start /wait setup.exe ADDLOCAL=RS_Server INSTANCENAME=SCEVHDSCE UPGRADE=RS_ Server SKUUPGRADE=1 /qb But the setup said that the requested component could not be found.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Zoltan (I will be on vacation from next week, so I could not respond for a week.)
I have done the following and a domain user would not access report created a login to the SQL server to the user (this SQL Server is where data source DB is)went to site setting in Report Manager and made this use a system userright clicked on report folder and made this user in the browser roleeven checked that in the report in question, the user is already in the browser role Still the user would not access the report! "User .......... does not have required permission" is the error message I am getting.Â
I have written a report visual studio. Â The report has 10 multi-value parameters that pull data from their individual data sets within the reports. Â When running the report from within Visual Studio it renders fine. Â There are no errors reported, only a warning related to a pathname I have use to retrieve image data and display on the report.Deployment of the report is error free. When I view the report I briefly get the "Loading" splash window, but then nothing. Â None of the headers or static text is displayed. Â The results window is blank.
The report defaults all the parameter values. Â In trying to debug the issue I have found by reducing the number of parameter values the report will render. Â Once I have all the values added, the report does nothing.Below is the query being used for the report. Â The where clause in the query shows the parameters being used and the syntax. We are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.
Ralph SELECT RTRIM(a.ITEMNMBR) AS Style, RTRIM(a.ITEMDESC) AS Description, a.ITMSHNAM AS UPC, c.LOCNCODE AS Store, d.LISTPRCE AS ListPrice, a.CURRCOST AS Cost, a.USCATVLS_1 AS [Main Category], a.USCATVLS_2 AS Market, a.USCATVLS_3 AS [Alternate Retail], a.USCATVLS_4 AS Country, b.ITEMXTRAS_1_Type AS Type, b.ITEMXTRAS_2_Finish AS Finish, b.ITEMXTRAS_3_SubCategory AS SubCategory, b.ITEMXTRAS_4_Department AS Department,
We are about to implement SSRS reports (SQL Server 2012), and have found one issue we don't like. The report looks great when we open it in pdf format. However, when we open it in Excel format, we want it to be the raw data, not look like the pdf report. I tried the simpl headers, and that removed the page header/footer. However, the report format was still in play.In other words, we would like the report when opened in Excel, to look just like it does when we open it as a CSV.I have tried to modify the config file a couple of times. Here is my latest attempt:
Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering"> Â Â Â Â <OverrideNames> Â Â Â Â Â <Name Language="en-US">CSV (comma delimited)</Name> Â Â Â Â </OverrideNames> Â Â Â </Extension> Â Â Â <Extension Name="CSV" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering"> Â Â Â Â <OverrideNames> Â Â Â Â Â <Name Language="en-US">Excel (csv)</Name> Â Â Â Â </OverrideNames> Â Â Â </Extension>
Essentially I have set Visible = "false" for the Excel type, and tried to duplicate the CSV, changing the name to make it look to the user like it is "Excel". This fails. I checked the event viewer, and I see two entries.. The RSReportServer.config file has been modified. (Information)The value for UrlRoot in RSReportServer.config is not valid. The default value will be used instead.I literally took the file, opened it in Notepad, pasted in my changes, from another notepad window, and tried to run the report. I did not see EITHER of the two names I expected, using the OverrideNames tag. As I said earlier, I was able to affect the outcome, by setting SimpleHeaders to true (or however it is identified). That did work in that the page header and footer was removed.
I have a ssrs report having 2 tables in with 4 columns in each. When I go to export option in preview I can see all data coming in one excel sheet, But I am trying to get 2 tables in 2 different pages in Excel when I export.First page of excel comes with first table data with 4 columns and second page of excel comes with second table data with 4 columns .
I am working on reports in SSRS 2008 (not R2)... There are some reports with parameters that are hidden when the report is accessed through normal URL using ReportViewer.asx..The thing is that these hidden parameters need to be visible when the report is accessed using SSRS Report Manager.
Included the option RS_Tools in ADDLOCAL clause The error message displayed is €œThe feature(s) specified are not valid for any SQL Server products€?, if the RS_Tools is excluded the command works fine. The option doesnt exist in template.ini
The error message displayed on screen is "The feature(s) specified are not valid for any SQL Server products"

I'm wondering how to print a SSRS report without bringing up a report viewer. Is there way to print(PDF format) the SSRS report in the web application(Â .net ) Â directly from the "print" button without bringing up a report viewer?
I have a report builder drill down report. I have row groups with totals.   It looks like the attached.  The problem is when the report is not expanded the Grand Totals column is not accurate... it is displaying the totals of one of the rows when expanded. The expression in the Total Show text box is
= Switch (                                    MID(Fields!protocol_id.Value,1,7)="THERAPY",                                Sum(IIF(Fields!status.Value = "CO", CDbl(Fields!TX_CO.Value),      Nothing)),  MID(Fields!protocol_id.Value,1,7) = "GENERAL" and                          MID(Fields!program_id.Value,1,6) = "INTAKE",                             Sum(IIF(Fields!status.Value = "CO",
[code]...
Is there any way to not display the expression in the Total columns unless the report is expanded?
I have few reports under different folders in Report Manager. Is there a way to set the data source for the whole folder rather than each report individually? There is also a folder where reports generate dynamically. Since the report project doesn't exist anymore, I can't set the data source through code. How can I set the data source for the whole folder?
I was able to log in to SSRS report manager. But i was unable to run a report i designed on report builder.
It prompts for login when i wanted to run the report and i used the same windows authentication to sign in
It will show me the parameters but when i click on view report it gives this error
"Data source 'DataSource1': An error has occurred.
Details: Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'Acc-11Admin'."
I want to repeat line on each page of report on PDF while using 2 columns on report. The problem is that if i use table border it will also repeat after second table. i want a line between two tables.
We are generating excel report using report viewer at run time but if excel report having more then 65000 record generating error Microsoft. Reporting Services.OnDemandReportRendering.ReportRenderingException: Excel Rendering Extension: Number of rows exceed.
I am trying to develop a report from cube, and it has one drill through report.when i click on sales amount field on main report, then it open the drill through report with details. Here i passed the **(category, subcat, product)parameters(Cascaded)** to drill through report in action part of main report. In my main report i have two columns .
columns are **Level**  and        **Salesamount**. Â
Values are like Â
**[-]category** Â Â Â Â Â Â Â **100** Â Â **[-]subcat** Â Â Â Â Â Â **50** Â Â Â Â Â **product** Â Â Â Â Â **30**
when i click on 100, parameters are passed & it open the detail report correctly, but when i click on 50,the values for subcat parameter is not getting values in detail report and same as the product also.
How do I get data on my linked report based on my grouped subtotal and grand total from the main report. The subtotal and grand total are calculated columns.
I have a 3 columns in my matrix in the SSRS summary report. Actn_COAST, ActnCITY and NumbOfAccts. Â
The following is code for my summary report. The results are shown below.
SELECT Distinct ActnCITY, Count(ACCT) as NumbOfAccts, CASE WHEN ActnCITY in ('NY', 'OH', IN, 'NJ', 'SC', 'NC') THEN 'EAST COAST' WHEN ActnCITY IN ('CA'. 'NV', 'UT', 'WA', 'OR') THEN 'WEST COAST' ELSE 'OTHER' END AS Actn_COAST
FROM tbl1 where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT
Code for my detail report contains the following SQL
SELECT * FROM tbl1 where ACTNDATE between @STARTDT and @EndDT AND @ActnCITY = ActnCITY
I have linked my report based on the NumbOfAccts column. I am able to get data if I click any of the NumbOfAccts values related to the state I want. However when I am not sure how to make the subtotal and grand total work. I want when I click on the subtotal of either coast, I should be able to see records of that coast e.g., if I select 37 I should be able to see all the records in East Coast. If I click on the Grand Total, I only want data related to those 2 coasts.
Is there a way to subscribe SSRS report using dynamic parameters for email and trigger the report from autosys job so that report should generate the exact time the job is triggered.Let me describe, my SSRS report should be triggered on success of one autosys job. i need to send email parameter and time of report schedule from this autosys job.
Hi, I'm having problems navigating from one report to another one if the second report has a multi-valued report parameter. When I navigate to the second report, I don't pass any parameters, but I get an error "parameter is missing a value" for the multi-valued report parameter. I have it setup as allow "multi-value" and "blank value". Any idea what the issue might be? Thanks.
How to display the logo in middle of report header , The logo is embedded in the Image folder . The column of the report  are static. we are using SSRS 2008
I have a SSRS report with 4 sub reports embedded. Previously i faced a situation where sub reports was getting displayed with static data even if there is no data being pulled from data set. I solved this problem according to solution provided in my previous post here. Now blank space is getting displayed in place of empty sub report. But still the main report that hosts empty sub report (Which has a header with header name coming from main data set) is getting displayed. Is there any way wherein the whole main report can be suppressed when the sub report  has no data?
I have a report which works fine with visual studio but when i uploaded the same into report server and tries to access it through IE or chrome or anything its dam slow.
I need to create a SSRS report using the Warehouse tfs_warehouse DBÂ Report need to be drill down on WorkItemType Parents and child values. So, If we click on Product Back Log Item will get all the tasks inside it and so on....
------->Product BackLog items              ----------> Bugs Or Tasks                         -----------> Tasks
I have done research and found out how to do it in OLAP cube ..but still can't figure out the TSQL query to be used.Found one of the query on forum:
SELECT * FROM DimWorkItem DWI INNER JOIN FactWorkItemLinkHistory FWILH ON DWI.System_Id = FWILH.TargetWorkItemID WHERE FWILH.WorkItemLinkTypeSK IN (SELECT DWILT.WorkItemLinkTypeSK FROM DimWorkItemLinkType DWILT WHERE DWILT.LinkName = N'Child') AND DWI.System_WorkItemType = N'Task' AND DWI.System_Rev = (SELECT MAX(DWI1.System_Rev) FROM DimWorkItem DWI1 WHERE DWI1.System_Id = DWI.System_Id) AND FWILH.SourceWorkItemID IN (SELECT DWI2.System_Id FROM DimWorkItem DWI2 WHERE DWI2.System_WorkItemType = N'Bug');
