Reporting Services :: Round Time To Quarter Hour
Jun 2, 2011
SSRS 2008 R2. I am writing a report that uses a DB4 database. Because of this many SQL commands that I normally use are not available and I don't know what commands I can use. Because of this I am doing much of my calculations inside of SSRS.
I need to round a time field to the nearest quarter hour inside of SSRS.
For example:
8:12 becomes 8:15
2:30 becomes 2:30
1:57 becomes 2:00
4:07 becomes 4:00

I am using the following expression to calculate the last day of the last quarter
=dateadd("s",-1,dateadd("q",datediff("q","1/1/1900",today()),"1/1/1900"))
It returns 3/31/2015 11:59:59 PM
What needs to change so that it return 3/31/2015 12:00:00 AM

I am getting the time difference between two dates using
DATEDIFF(second,Information.[Start Time],Information.[End Time]) / 60.00 / 60.00 AS hours,
My output looks like
1.33
0.17
1.50
etc
I'd like to round to the nearest quarter hour
1.50
0.25
.150
etc

I want to create a report of our customers displaying the monthly sales totals and display the Quarter totals at the end of every third month, e.g.
Customer Jan Feb Mar Quarter1 Apr May Jun
Quarter2 Jul Aug...
I've created the report with the Quarter totals and the far right end, but I can place my finger on how to do it every three months.
My data exists in one table. Here is the query:
SELECT customer
, customercode
, city
, state
, salesperson
, invoiceYear
, invoiceMonth
, CAST(SUM(netSalesValue + discValue) / 1000 AS decimal(10, 1)) AS grossSales
[code]....
My query results are as follows:
Customer Name | 0000305 | Orange | CA | SalesPerson Name | 2015 | 1 | 8.4 | Q1 | True

Hello,
My Round function used in the design screen of a report (of SQL Server Reporting Services) produces this result, as for example: Round(1.50) gives 1 instead of 2.
Does anybody know how to set up the round function in order to get the superior value ? round(1,5) should give 2 !
Thanks.

I have created range bar chart and I am not able to achieve the following tasks.
1. Change X-axis Label Format to Quarter:
I have x-axis with dates and y axis of project groups. I have changed x-axis interval type = month and interval=3.
Set the Maximum = Max(ProjectEndDate) and Minimum = Min(ProjectStartDate).
Now my chart showing 3 months x-axis interval dates in mm/dd/yyyy format. I want to change this interval date format to Quarter. The problem is LabelsFormat property is not recognize the "=Q or q or quarter" and also not accepting the expressions. How can I achieve this?
2. Placing series side by side when it is not overlapping
I want to place the same group series side by side only when the previous project end date is less than next project start date, otherwise place the next project to next row. How can I achieve this?

Duration =(Fields!end.Value-Fields!startdate.value) i get the output as shown above.
I need to round that output to 2 decimal places and display it as 00:02:09.65

Hi all,
I have created a report in SSRS 2005 which is being viewed by users from different Time Zones.
I have a dataset which has a field of type datetime (UTC). Now I would like to display this Date according to the User Time Zone.
For example if the date is August 07, 2007 10:00 AM UTC,
then I would like to display it as August 07, 2007 03:30 PM IST if the user Time Zone is IST.
Similarly for other Time Zones it should display the time accordingly.
Is this possible in SSRS 2005?
Any pointers will be usefull...
Thanks in advance
sudheer racha.

we have problems with our SQL Reporting Service 2012 (SSRS) server . We have setup Kerberos delegation between SSRS and the database server (SQL Server Always-on cluster) so users are authenticated down to the database. The issue occurs from time to time that SSRS loses the ability to delegate the user credentials to the database. At this point in time the Report Server logs contain rejected database connections because of ANONYMOUS logon. After restarting SSRS the problem is gone.

Does anyone know of a way to use a funtion for returning records based on fiscal reporting periods like Quickbooks uses for example "This Month", "Last Month", "This Quarter", "Last Quarter", "This Year", "Last Year". While I realize that I can create a very long date time parsing routine for this but it is not very elegant or useful. I thought there might be a way to do this already with an existing function.I have created a stored procedure that I pass a @ViewRange Parameter to and it returns the records that I want but I need this ability in several procedures and wanted to turn it into a stored procedure.IF @ViewRange = 'This Month' SELECT TOP 20 Customer.LastName AS Customer, SUM(Sales.AmtCharge) AS Amount FROM Customer INNER JOIN Sales ON Customer.CustNo = Sales.CustNo WHERE (MONTH(Sales.InvDate) = MONTH(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)) AND (YEAR(Sales.InvDate) = YEAR(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)) GROUP BY Customer.LastName ORDER BY SUM(Sales.AmtCharge) DESC;IF @ViewRange = 'Last Month' SELECT TOP 20 Customer.LastName AS Customer, Sum(Sales.AmtCharge) AS Amount FROM Customer INNER JOIN Sales ON Customer.CustNo = Sales.CustNo WHERE(MONTH(Sales.InvDate) = MONTH(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) - 1) And (YEAR(Sales.InvDate) = YEAR(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)) GROUP BY Customer.LastName ORDER BY Sum(Sales.AmtCharge) DESC; Any ideas?

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.
I've few options down...
1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.
2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.
3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

I have a process to rollover prior quarter data to new quarter in a table.
For example, i have a table with (col1, col2, year, qtr) with data like ( Note: col1 is identity(1,1) )
1,'today',2014,1
2,'tomorrow,2014,1
3,'friday',2014,1
Now when i run my process, above 3 records will be rolled over new quarter 2014 Q2 and the table will be like
1,'today',2014,1
2,'tomorrow,2014,1
3,'friday',2014,1
4,'today',2014,2
5,'tomorrow,2014,2
6,'friday',2014,2
Row 1 with identity 1 has rolled over to new quarter row 4 with identity 4 ( qtr fields are changed )
Row 2 with identity 2 has rolled over to new quarter row 5 with identity 5. Same with last row as well.
Here, i have another table called "ident_map" with columns like (old identity, new identity ) and during rollover i am supposed to load ident_map table with old and new identity. So after rollover is complete, ident_map table should look like
1,4
2,5
3,6
I know using output clause I can capture the new identity values. 4,5,6 in this case. But is there any way to capture both old identity and new identity during rollover so that i can load the ident_map table with old and new identity.

Hope this is the right forum. I'm using Transaction=required on a page which inserts on multiple tables, 2 of which have a foreign key relationship. All works fine as log as I don't input erroneous data. However, I have a range check in the code, and if the range is exceeded, an exception is thrown and the transaction fails using ContextUtil.SetAbort(). I then correct the data and try to save and get a Foreign key contraint error. I have debugged and the primary key table seems to be carrying out the insert ok (I'm retreiving the key at that point, and can see it). But when I use the key in the child table it fails and cites the foreign key relationship.
I suspect that having the same data for the primary key table 2nd time around means it doesn't think it has to commit????
Grateful for any help. I'm using Sqlserver 2005 by the way.

Firstly sorry if this already exists but I can't find it the answer anywhere.
I'm running Visual Studio 2005 Reporting Service. I have a SQL query which is reutrning a count of second which I need to display in HHH:MMS format.
integer value = 144322 which is displaying as 16:05:22 or 02/01/1900 16::05
the end result needs to be 40:05:22
It is quite visable what SQL is doing but I am having big issues around how to reach the result.
Any help much appreciated.
SUM(Call_Length) AS Total_Talk_secs,
DATEADD(second, SUM(Call_Length), '00:00:00') AS Total_Talk_Time,

Hello,
We are using Reporting Services 2005 with large amount of data.
Our reports displays the data in various presentation (charts, tables, Images and matrixes).
Sometimes the underline queries takes a lot of time (few algorithms implemented by SQL and few by web services).
We tried to run the reports in various scenarios and we are getting a timeout n each of the scenarios:
1. Running the report with windows application (based on Report Viewer control)
2. Running the report via subscription.
We noticed than the timeout occurs after about 20 minutes.
WE changed the following parameters:
1. The system timeout in the report server database: 60000
2. Reports execution timeout (site level): Do not timeout report execution
3. Reports execution timeout (report level):
a. Do not timeout report execution
b. A very big number

field prodDate puts out values as such:
8/12/2013 7:50:15
8/12/2013 7:51:03
8/12/2013 7:53:42
8/12/2013 7:54:12
8/12/2013 7:56:02
...
...
8/12/2013 14:57:57
8/12/2013 14:59:59
I'd like to get a time span sum beginning with the first prodDate entry and ending with the last.
The idea is I'll then use that to divide lbs produced, thus giving me a gauge for lb per hour.

I have data that looks like the following.
ID Date Time Length Interval_Num
1 10/11/2014 9:00 420 14
Basically, length represents the # of minutes a person is scheduled for. We have 30 minute intervals. Interval_Num = (Length/30). I need the data to show each interval. For the above example it should only be 14 intervals. For the above example the solution should look like....
ID Date Time Length
1 10/11/2014 9:00 30
1 10/11/2014 9:30 30
1 10/11/2014 10:00 30
1 10/11/2014 10:30 30
for 14 intervals up until 16:00

How can I do this? I have a column that is a varchar and times are stored like this:
0600
1240
0145
2335
How can I get those to HH:MM formats? I've tried this but I don't know if it's the best way, plus there are seven 0s after the MM:
convert(time,LEFT(b.status_time,2) +':'+ RIGHT(b.status_time,2))

Hi all!
If I have some mdx I'm using in reporting services like this:
select
{ [TimeByMinute].[All TimeByMinute].[2005].[May].[1] : [TimeByMinute].[All TimeByMinute].[2005].[May].[6] } on columns,
{A_list_of_measures } on rows
from ACD_Calls
The column names are unique to the day of month- which means when I use a table to display this in reporting services, the field names change dynamically when the date parameters change which means the table stops working.
I'll post this in reporting services too but I thought maybe I could alias the column names in mdx shielding the reporting services table from changes in dates.
What do you think? Would a matrix be more flexible in this case?

I have a problem with Date/Time parameters. When I try to preview reports locally, I get the following error message for dates past the 12th of a month:
An error occured during local report processing. The value provided for the report parameter 'Date' is not valid for its type.
My report is set to de-CH. If I enter a date into the datepicker in Swiss/German format (dd.mm.yyyy) Visual Studio changes them to mm/dd/yyyy but somehow tests them against dd.mm.yyyy and throws an error.
Windows language is German, SQL Server and Visual Studio are in English.
I installed the German language pack for Visual Studio and switched over to German to no avail. Changing the report language to en-US did not work either.

Now I need to use the following expression with this:

How do I join the two together?

1. I have a parameter @Param1 that accepts multiple values
2. I have to display data based on selected values of @Param1
Here comes the tricky part.
3. I have to aggregate on all the available values of the @Param1
Do I need to take a hidden parameter just for aggregation? Or is there any other way?
