Reporting Services :: Server Not Fully Functional After Migrating To New Domain
Jun 19, 2015
I had to migrate my report server (2008R2) to a new domain. I built new server and restored the old ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB into new server and also restored the certificate from old server. The Report Server is running but I don't have full access to all server futures anymore, looks like it's AD authentication messed up. My new account is Admin on new server but I can't see all options, like New Data Source, or wehn going on report level to manage to see all option such as Parameters, Subscriptions, Data Source.

Hello Guys,
I had been trying to solve this error with no success :
One or more of the server network addresses lacks a fully qualified domain name (FQDN). Specify the FQDN for each server, and click Start Mirroring again.
The syntax for a fully-qualified TCP address is:
TCP://<computer_name>.<domain_segment>[.<domain_segment>]:<port>
I had installed three instances on my local machine to test Data base mirroring :
Principal : running SQL Developer Instance
Mirror : running SQL Developer Instance .
Witness : Running SQL Express.
Database mirroring already enabled using startup flag : -T1400
i even tried to configure it with out a witness but still have the same error .
I used the follwoing server name in the mirroring wizard(not localhost) :
Principal : TCP://Ali-laptop:5022
Mirrored : TCP://Ali-laptop:5023
Witness : TCP://Ali-laptop:5044
whats the problem guys?!

I've just got RS Enterprise Edition.
Installed it in a Test Server, ok.
Installed it in a DEV server, having some errors.
My DEV server is an "ALL in 1" server, which is also a Domian Controller.
While Test Server is not a DC.
The installation was succesful but when I open RS Manager thru the web, it gives me a ASP.NET error:
Access to the path "D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLReporting ServicesReportManagerin" is denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path "D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLReporting ServicesReportManagerin" is denied.
ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via <identity impersonate="true"/>, the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user.
To grant ASP.NET write access to a file, right-click the file in Explorer, choose "Properties" and select the Security tab. Click "Add" to add the appropriate user or group. Highlight the ASP.NET account, and check the boxes for the desired access.
I tried doing everything I can possible think of from the error message advice, including adding rights to ASPNET user from ISS to that particular folder...no success.
What I'm suspecting is I can't install RS in a DC box. But I can't find this info anyway in the web.
Anyone can point me to the correct direction or any advice?

But as the reporting services is integrated with sharepoint, dont know if I can move both at the same or it has to be done one at a time. this is just data migration, but still I will like to Know how it can be done having the same structure with the roles and credentials. or it is prefered to do a ghost?? but the issue will be that we have the reporting services in one place and the data in another... don´t know how this will affect. thanks in advanced for the help.

I have a root domain and child domain.
After using ADMT to migrate the domain user or group into the root domain, when I use enterprise manager to try and change the permissions allocated to that domain user/group, i get the 'Error 15401 NT user or Group not found'.
This is a correct error as the user is now in the root domain, however sql (in sysxlogins) still thinks its in the child domain.
Is there a simpler way, other than collecting the users permissions, deleting the user from SQL then adding back in with the correct domainusername format, then adding the permissions back?
I tried renaming the 'name' in sysxlogins (not recommended) and while that worked, whenever I tried to add the migrated user to another database, the login name was missing and would not resolve.
I believe it is something to do with the SID not matching.
Any ideas on how to fix this ?

I am running into a weird issue with a new SQL Reporting Services 2014 server I built. I installed SQL Reporting 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2 and configured Kerberos, but the site is extremely slow. After some reconfiguration and log captures I have determined the issue has to do with the Kerberos setup, however I am running a similar configuration with SQL Reporting Services 2008 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and do not run into the same errors.
The error I see while using Wireshark is KRB Error: KRB5KDC_ERR_BADOPTION NT Status: STATUS_NO_MATCH. When I drill down the into the error I can see the kerberos string is testprjmnmtreports14.company.com, which is the URL we are using to access the site. I made sure to add that name as an SPN for the service account that is running SQL Reporting Services, however I still receive the error.
Then I tried configuring the site to run without a hostheader, so I accessed the site with the server name, ECTSTSQLRS5, and the site works perfectly fine, no errors are reported either. So it seems I have isolated the issue down to Kerberos but I am not sure how to resolve it. Here is some more information about my environment:
DNS/URL used: testprjmnmtreports14.company.com
Server Name (FQDN): ECTSTSQLRS5.company.int
AD Domain Name: company.int
Server Version: Windows Server 2012 R2
AD Functional Level: 2008 R2
As you can see I am trying to use a .com address but my AD domain is .int which I think is the issue, but I do not have the same problem on my other server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2. What do I need to do to allow my new site on 2012 R2 to work with this DNS Alias?

Can anyone help me with a problem I have with SSRS 2005? How do I configure SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services to deliver subscription e-mails to addresses external to my windows domain?
I've been having trouble configuring the Report Server e-mail delivery component to send subscription e-mails to addresses outside the domain on which the report server is hosted.
For e.g. since my local windows domain is named "smartsystems.com", I have found that the Report Manager does not have any problems sending subscription mails to "eawagu@smartsystems.com" but throws up an error whenever I include "eawagu@yahoo.com" in the recipients' list.
Any insights?

I am migrating our reporting services from 2000 to 2005. I am following the instructions in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724.aspx. I am currently using the Report Server Configuration tool to restore the encryption key. I click "Restore", point to the backup that I created at the beginning of the process, enter the password, and the process begins. I get a check mark and a message saying "Restoring Encryption Key." The problem is that it never comes back from this. I let it run for over an hour and finally clicked one of the previous steps to abort this. I went back and started it over. Again, it has been running for over an hour. I get no errors; it just does not complete. How do I proceed? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

HI,
We currently have a report generated weekly running script which creates an excel file and pivot tables. Using pivot tables we can drag and drop the various required fields and the report changes instantly. But i was told there is a limitation of size while using pivot tables.
Can this report be easily created with almost all the flexibility in reporting services, if so could you please guide me with some sample report or tutorials.
currently there is a some store procedures thats run every week using a DTS manually, is there a way of automating this.
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers

I am in the middle of migrating all Crystal Reports over to SSRS and am having some troubles converting formulas used in Crystal Reports to functional expressions in SSRS. For example: My formula for one of the crystal reports is the following. Very simple logic but how would I build it as an expression to work in my SSRS report?
IF {CUST_ORDER_LINE.ORDER_QTY}-{CUST_ORDER_LINE.TOTAL_SHIPPED_QTY} < 0 THEN 0 ELSE {CUST_ORDER_LINE.ORDER_QTY}-{CUST_ORDER_LINE.TOTAL_SHIPPED_QTY}

Hi,
I am new to Reporting Services. I want to use Reporting Services 2005 in our application.
My custom web application is on one machine and Reporting Services 2005 is on other machine. I am using Forms Authentication and using Single Sign On for login
If my custom web application and Reporting Services are on same machin I can get "Authentication Ticket" issued by ReportingServices2005 to the Report server.
But in this case I am not able to get "Authentication Ticket" on Report Server since it is on other machine.
I am using ReportViewer control in my web application to display Reports and using LogonUser method to get the Authentication Ticket.
How can I pass CookieAuthentication ticket from my Custom Web Application to Report Server?
Is there any work around to pass Authentication Cookie across Domain or any other solution for this?
Regards
Amit

I am currently migrating several Crystal Reports that have charts. The chart series is set to use the TopN values in a count, and combine the rest of the series into one series titled "Other". I see how to filter the chart using TopN, however I need to still show the rest of the data grouped as "Other". I think the solution I need is to create a group expression that uses some sort of IIF function to create the "Other" group, but I haven't found a function that I can use to get the results I need. Any ideas?

I have an instance of SSRS that will not run my report subscriptions if it is using a dedicated domain account I made for the express purpose of using it to run this service.
If I have SSRS use my personal domain account as the service account, my subscriptions run correctly. If I have SSRS use this other domain account, the subscriptions do not run.
What else do I have to configure to make this run correctly not on my personal account?
Error message below.

We are currently in the process of migrating users from a NT 4.0 domain to a win2k Domain. On some of our SQL Servers the Windows Authenticated users own objects within the database. These Windows Authenticated users also own SQL Server Job and DTS Packages. Once these Windows Authenticated users are moved over to the Windows 2000 Domain they have to qualify there database objects, they can not see their SQL Server Jobs they created and they cannot modify the DTS Packages they previously created. Is their a tool or script out there that can fix this problem of moving the Windows Authenticated users smoothly over to the new domain.

I have created a new SSRS Server and done all of the basic security setup for the site but I am having trouble with client machine access...At first I had an issue with being able to access report manager from any client and ended up having to shut off windows authentication on the client IE settings to get it to work. Now I am trying to run Report Builder from a client machine and it will not download. The client machine is on the same domain and my user id is set as an administrator within SSRS and as a local admin on the 2008 server.Â
I had the thought that without windows auth in the browser maybe it can't permit me access to the application but if I turn it on I can't get to it to download it. I have set Full Control rights to the folder as well. Most of the info out there is for 2005 and that uses IIS to host the pages where as 2008 does not. Here is the details of the error:

We have an existing SSRS server, and have just created a new child domain. We'll be migrating users from the parent to the child, and want to add the users of that new domain with access to SSRS. In the parent domain they are able to access, but after migration with the child domain account, they cannot.
I have added the group CHILDDomain Users with a system user role on SSRS, and PARENTDomain Users was already there.
Is there any additional step I should/could take to get this active?

SP4 Build 2187 cumulative rollup
SP4 Build 2249 fully patched as per KB894905
Do I need to apply builds 2187 to 2249 ?
If so where/how can I obtain the down loads from ( 8.00.2187 - 8.00.2249) ?
Have logged a call with microsoft support but as yet no responce.

Hi folks
I have deployed a package from file resources to sql server named instance. I did not receive any errors. msdb..dtspackages90 table have rows for my package.
But when I try to connect to integration services using ssms like 'serverinstance', I am getting an error saying that 'serverinstance' names are not supported by integrated services and I should use just a servername.
What am I doing wrong? Is that really integration services are not supported on named instances or i miss something?
Thank you, Gene.

Subject problem has me quite vexed.
I am receiving the following error when attempting to access reporting services... to sum things up real nice and tidy-
I get three login prompts - then the access denied response. It is almost as if it is unable to authenticate the user... anyway... here's the actual error response, I'd really appreciate any input/insight/resolution.

Hi all,Have a situation that my company has never run across before. Clientis running NT4 for the domain server, using terminal services 2000 andrunning an application with a SQL Server backend and they areexperiencing locking problems. Once one person gets locked out theneveryone trying to access that tables is also locked out as a result. It is not specific to a certain User, or module within theapplication. It's not a specific time of the day (like when a backupwould be running) and sometimes it's in the middle of the night whenthere are actually less Users on the system. We have 500 customers using this application. Most are using SQLServer backend, alot of the newer customers are using TerminalServices, and the number of Users is not accessive as compared to ourother customers. THe only difference is that I do not specificallyknow of another client with an NT4 Domain server in the mix.We actually switched to SQL Server as the recommended back end due tolocking issues using SQLBase because SQL Server is row locking andSQLBase is page locking. Since making this change we have stoppedseeing the locking for years until now. Is this a SQLServer issue orissue with the NT Domain server?Anyone have any ideas???ThanksA

Hi,
We have the followoing:
-A "master domain" AD, a "sub domain" AD, a trust relationship between the two (sub trust master)
-A sql server 2005 on a win server 2003 in "sub domain" AD
-A linked server to "sub domain" AD
-A linked server login using a "sub domain" admin acccount
-A view to this linked server
-A grant on masterDomain/Domain Users to the database
-A grant on subDomain/Domain Users to the database
-We want all connections done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Queries on the view work fine using "sub domain" user accounts.
Queries on the view fail using "master domain" user accounts (including master domain admin accounts)
"Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "ADsDSOObject" for linked server "ADSI" reported an error. The provider indicates that the user did not have the permission to perform the operation."
All connections are done through "Windows Authentication" not "Database Authentication".
Can we establish cross domain connectivity with "Windows Authentication" ?
Below are details of the implementation:
SELECT TOP (100) PERCENT *
FROM OPENQUERY(ADSI,
'SELECT displayname, givenName, sn, cn (etc...)
FROM ''LDAP://OU=PEOPLE,DC=subDomain,DC=com''
WHERE objectCategory = ''Person'' AND objectClass = ''user'' ')
EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname ='ADSI', @useself='false',
@rmtuser='subDomainAdminAccnt', @rmtpassword='sunDomainAdminAccntPassword';
In SQL Server Mngt Studio in Server Objects/Linked Servers/Providers/ ADSI properties security tab I have:
"connections will: <be made using this security context> Remote login:'subDomainAdminAccnt' With password: 'subDomainAdminAccntPassword'
Error:

I am managing a number of SQL Server 6.5 systems via lan and wan connections.
I have a couple of servers which, althought I have an administrator account on the server and access through the fire walls, I can only connect if I set up entries under the client config utility using named pipes with the relevant ip address.
The servers are set up to use both tcp/ip and named pipes. When I do connect I dont get the traffic lights, and Service manager shows the servers in indeterminate state although I know they are running OK.
When I expand the server in EM, the SQL Executive also does not appear, again the service is running.
I am connecting to the server as sa, and can perform all sa functions.
I have connected to the server through security manager and it shows me as an administrator with sa rights.
We are using standard security on these servers.
Anybody any ideas ?
Thanks in advance
Tom

There is no link to actually launch SQLServer though. I've tried repairing, and removing and reinstalling but the results are the same. Can someone help me figure out how to actually launch this application?
