I've got a Server setup at work on our RD domain
It's Windows 2012, running SQL Server 2012 with reporting Services
I've installed our application and reports to this server.
If I'm on my CORP domain on my development laptop I can enter the following into IE [URL] ...... and the SSRS reports page opens up fine
I then RDP into this server using my same CORP credentials Open IE on this server and enter the same URL within IE and get User 'CORPORATEjoep' does not have required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.
I'm on the Server itself. Why does my account not work there, but when I access SSRS from outside this SERVER with same login, it works

I'm making a copy of some tanles between 2 servers.
Server 1 requires a sql login
Server 2 is using Windows Auth.
I have a user on server 1 named "odbc" able to log in.
however my copy task fails, when I drill the error, it's lists the first user in server 1 alphabetically as the failed login???? but in my dts I am specifying the "odbc" user and password.
I think I have a permissions problem on server 1. So my Question, what minimum permissions does user "odbc" need to copy a table?
On server 1 I can copy from northwind to server 2 just fine..but any other db on server 1 causes the weird failure with the wrong username.
Any Ideas? I am not a DBA obviously :)
Thanks,
Carl

I have a server with a dozen or so databases created by a 3rd party for some software that we've purchased. Because of the mess involved I've created a separate database for reporting purposes contains a large number of objects that reference the other databases using 3-part naming.
Now I'm on to securing this stuff up.
- I don't want my users having any write permissions so have added them to the db_denydatawriter role.
- I don't want them having access to certain schemas within the reporting database so have granted select and execute permissions to the specific schemas.
I like simple.
Unfortunately because of the 3 part naming they require access to the other databases... but I would love to not have to do this as I want to force them in to using the objects I have created.
What are my options?

I have been looking at forums trying to resolve my problem and now my brain hurts. I really need help with this and no one seems to have a definitive answer.
When launch Reporting Services, the page is blank and the settings options are missing. Even though I am logged on to the server with a local admin account.
I have tried taking off annonymous access but when I do this I just get the page can not be displayed.
Also when connecting to ReportingServices through the Management Studio I get the following message:
The permissions granted to user 'servernameusername' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) (Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)
The permissions granted to user 'Servernameusername' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) (Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)
Any help on this would be much appreciated. I really need to get this sorted out.
Thanks.

Hi,
We have a reporting server which was working fine. All of a sudden me ( admin) and the users who have content manager permissions donot see the properties tab on the web interface and I donot find the permissions tab. I also get "you are not authorized to access this page" error on systemsecurity page.
If I disable the allow anonymous access option from the directory security in IIS, me and the person with content manager permissions see the properties/permissions tab but users are getting 401 unauthorized error while accessing the reports ( some of them are configured as content managers).
Not sure what happend and what to do .... any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phani

We have a SQL 2012 SSRS instance. We need to modify the permissions on one of the reporting folders. I went to the Security setting of the folder, clicked "New role assignment", then entered a group name into the box and selected desired permission ("Browser" in this case).
However this always fails with the same error: "The user or group name 'BUILTINBUILTIN' is not recognized. (rsUnknownUserName)"
I always get the same error no matter if I enter user or group, domain or local. And it always says BUILTINBUILTIN. I've tried changing the SSRS service account to a domain account (it was a local one), but that didn't work.

.NET Permissions Error in Reporting Services when not using a custom assembly:
I need help resolving a permissions error I€™m taking in a SQL RS 2005 report.
I have a report that that is includes the following code fragment in Report Properties -> Code:
Function rtf2text(ByVal rtf As String) As String
Dim rtfcontrol As New System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox
Try
rtfcontrol.Rtf = rtf
Return rtfcontrol.Text
Catch ex as Exception
Return ex.Message
End Try
End Function
I reference the .NET System.Windows.Forms DLL under Report Properties -> References -> References, Assembly Name (heading):
System.Windows.Forms, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089
I have a text box with the following expression:
=code.rtf2text(First(Fields!EndingQuoteComment.Value, "QuoteHeader"))
And I€™ve verified, by removing the code.rtf2text command that is populated with the following:
{
tf1ansiansicpg1252deff0deflang1033{fonttbl{f0fromanfprq2fcharset0 Times New Roman;}{f1fnilfcharset0 Arial;}} viewkind4uc1pardif0fs32 ** Ending Quote Comments **par 0i0f1fs17par }
When I run the preview in Visual Studio is correctly strips the RTF and displays just €œ** Ending Quote Comments **€?. When I €˜RUN€™ locally or deploy to a SQL RS 2005 Server and run the report I take the following error:
Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.UIPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
I€™ve tried everything that I can think of on the server to make this work.
I finally put together a Win 2003 box with SQL 2005, IIS, and RS 2005 running on it in a virtual machine to be 100% sure I had a standard clean install and deployed the report and I€™m getting the same error.
Below I€™ve included a basic standalone RDL file that demonstrates my issue. I get the error referenced above when I deploy the RDL below. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated?

This may be the wrong forum for this - if so, please direct me to the appropriate forum.
I've
recently upgraded to MSSQL 2005 and I'm trying to execute the
sp_databases stored procedure, but I'm having what looks like
permissions problems. I can execute the stored procedure, but it
doesn't return any results. As far as I can tell, the problem is that
my userid can't see any rows in sys.master_files (I can select from the view, it just doesn't return any rows).
I've tried any
number of things to get this to work, but the only thing that's been
successful is to change my userid's database role membership to
db_owner. In the long run, this isn't really a viable solution for me,
since my userid should only really have read(select) access to the
database in question.
I'd appreciate any pointers that you can
give me - I figure I'm doing something stupid, but haven't been able to
figure out what, yet.
Thanks,
Jeff

Good Afternoon All:
We have a SQL2K5 SP2 (x64) in active/passive cluster running an ERP application database.
I have users in remote office who are requesting the ability to run the "standard reports" from SSMS such as Disk Usage, Disk Usage by Table and so on. The user in question has AD account within the instance with db_datareader role.
What other database or server defined role is required to allow this user to launch and view the standard reports from SSMS?
Thanks!

Hi all,
I was wondering whether there is a way to show the user an error when the user did not select a specific parameter.
In my case, I have two optional parameters. The user has to select either one to view the report. If the user does not select either one, I would like to show some sort of an error page indicating so. However, all i am getting is a complete blank with no report in sight. I as a developer know this is an error as a result of missing parameters, but i was wondering whether I could produce a page or direct it to a page so that the user doesn't go all horrified at an empty page ?
Thanks
Bernard

I have prepared several DTS packages which must be launched by a custom external application. What is the best way to provide access to this application? What are the minimum security requirements? Currently, they are local packages; I understand that some utility is offered by saving them as .DTS files, but I don't know the pros & cons. Are there advantages to using the Repository? The app should be able to do its work from a different box on the same network as the server. (Ultra-super-secret security isn't an issue, but I don't want to have give our developers sa-level access unless necessary.)

Hi all,
what are the minimum required permissions for being allowed to deploy a report? When I try to deploy a report in BIDS I get the error message that my user has not sufficient rights for doing so.
Some key data for my configuration:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with Service Pack 1
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Service Pack 1
I'm not a local administrator, but I have administration rights for SQL Server and Analysis Services
I'm in the Reporting Services' system administrator and system user groups
I can access http://localhost/Reports, but not http://localhost/ReportServer
I have access to the directory (incl. subdirectories) MSSQL.2, but not to MSSQL.1MSSQL and MSSQL3Reporting Services
I can't run the Reporting Services Configuration Tool (see http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1565766&SiteID=1)
I can't connect to Reporting Services in SQL Server Management Studio
My question is (as I have already mentioned in the beginning): what are the minimum rights the IT administrator has to assign to my user so that I'll be able to deploy reports? Giving me local administrator rights is not possible.
Thanx in advance and kind regards,
Gerald
Update:
In the meantime I have found out, that I'm most probably not a member of the Publisher role. But although I am in the System Administrator role I cannot assign myself to this role. When going to http://localhost/Reports the required links are just not visible. Is this because I'm not a member of the groups SQLServer2005ReportServerUser$... and SQLServer2005ReportingServicesWebServerUser$... ?

I'm implementing row-level security in a SQL Server database that uses Microsoft Access for the front end. I'm using a UDF (a view behaves the same way) to restrict access to specific rows of a base table based on membership in a role. According to the reading I've done, if the base table has DENY ALL permissions for the role, and the UDF has GRANT ALL, members of the role should be able to update records in the base table via the UDF, without having direct access to the base table. However, I find that unless I grant appropriate permissions on the base table, the user is unable to update the table via the UDF.
Is this expected behavior? Nothing I've read suggests I should have to grant permissions on the columns of the base table.

I created a report using report builder and uploaded into the report manager. I gave the following roles to the user (Browseer, My Reports and Report Builder). The user can access the URL and the folder , but when he clicks on the report, he is getting the following error "There are no items in the folder, click here for more information"...But the report exists in that folder.

Is there another way for users to access reports online besides the Report Manager? Or is there a way for users to go to a URL that does not include the server? The same question goes for Report Models and Report Builder. Can they access these features without access to the server and databases?

Hi all,
What are the minimum permissions required by the SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor (UA)? I could not find it in the documentation.
Obviously being a local Administrators Windows group and a member of sysadmin SQL Server role will do the trick.
But will being a member of only the sysadmin SQL Server role be enough? I know that the UA does want to read the registry.
Running it under just sysadmin generates the following type of errors:
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
WINSOCKPROXY
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
FTUNSIGNEDCOMPONENTS
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
NETPROTOCOL
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
FTMULTIPLEINSTANCES
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
INVALIDNAMEDPIPE
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
FTCOMPONENTREG
Database Server
PreUpgrade
Requested registry access is not allowed.
FTACCTPASS
The issue then is whether these are significant or not. If the UA is only reading the registry to determine if SSAS, DTS, etc is installed then that is not important. But if it is affecting the end result because it cannot read critical information from the registry that is another matter.
TIA

Struggling to come up with an overall sum for each individual user when using the below code
SELECT
Practice.ibvStaffCategorisation.StaffId
,Practice.ibvStaffTotalsCL2Y.Period
,SUM(Practice.ibvStaffTotalsCL2Y.ChargeableMinutes) AS Sum_ChargeableMinutes
,SUM(Practice.ibvStaffTotalsCL2Y.NonChargeableMinutes) AS Sum_NonChargeableMinutes
[Code] ....
As I am using union all it shows two values for each user, the problem is I am getting the data via lookup like below
=Lookup(Fields!StaffId.Value, Fields!StaffId.Value, Fields!Sum_ChargeableAmount.Value, "ABSTimeRollingY")
I don't think I can use a Sum within a lookup so at the moment it is only bringing through the first value for each user but I would like it to bring through both.
Is there a way to do this within the dataset or via the query in the table?

There's a new SSRS 2012 environment which was setup with My Reports folder to each user enabled. I know I'm supposed to see a Users Folder in the Report Manager root, I'm setup as a system administrator (under Site Settings) and also have content manager rights in the root directory and I still don't see the "Users Folders" ...the only way I can see that is if they give me admin rights in the server SSRS is installed. I have a Windows NT group that is used to delegate certain database responsibilities to other members of staff and I am trying to grant permissions for the members of the group to be be able to establish database mirroring sessions, as in run the following:
ALTER DATABASE <database>
SET PARTNER = 'tcp://principal_server.domain.com:port';
Although the group has db_owner role membership to the user database which grants the ALTER permission on the database, the following is being generated in the error log when they get to this step on the intended Mirror instance after restoring the database correctly in preperation:
SqlDumpExceptionHandler: Process 59 generated fatal exception c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION. SQL Server is terminating this process.
* *******************************************************************************
*
* BEGIN STACK DUMP:
* 10/29/15 11:16:15 spid 59
*
*
* Exception Address = 00007FF9A6AF838C Module(sqlmin+000000000003838C)
* Exception Code = c0000005 EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
* Access Violation occurred reading address 00000000000000D8
* Input Buffer 210 bytes -
* alter database <redacted> set partner = '<redacted>';
As you can see, the statement is denied to the user. There are no issues with the database as I am able to run the same query successfully using my own sysadmin account after the failed attempt. What other minimum permissions the group might need to successfully enable them to setup a mirroring session?

I'm working on a project that requires integration of SQL Server Reporting Services with ASP.NET 3.0 Web Applications.
I'm working on Visual Studio 2005, with SQL Server 2005 on an XP development workstation.
SQL Server, Reporting Services, and IIS are all running on my local machine.
I'm trying to prototype two approaches, one using the Report Viewer control, and the second using the Reporting Services Web Service. I have the two examples setup in projects in Visual Studio.
The sample reports and data sources work fine in Visual Studio. I can access the report using the Reporting Services URL like this: http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fBTT_BDS_DEV%2fCustomers; Report works fine.
My problem is, that when I try and access the report using the Report Viewer inside an ASP.NET page or from the Web Serivce hooked up inside an ASP.NET Page I get a security errors. I have chosen Windows Security for the Datasource, and ASP.NET pages. In the case of the Web Service, I'm passing in my local domain user name as the credentials.
I'm prototyping this on my local workstation, but I need to design this to be used on our corporate Intranet using Windows Security.
My questions are:
1. How do I need to setup users on my local development workstation to get this to work.
2. How should I plan for user security for enterprise deployment, i.e. using Reporting Services inside a large ASP.NET Web Application?
3. Can anybody give me some links to some good developer type working examples of doing this. I've looked but have not found the answers
to the "how do I setup users" part of the question specifcally related to ASP.NET apps?
Below is the code example of the Web Services example app I'm working with which came out of a book I have on
Reporting Services. This example compiles and seems like it would work but doesn't. Also following are a few of the
error messages I get when experimenting with the example apps:

After publishing report on server and accessing it from URL its prompting for the USER ID and pAssword of Admin user of the server. Have tried to find the Virtual Directory of the Reporting server on IIS - which is not available. or unable to find the same. Apart from this have saved the Database credential in the report itself.Â

The permissions granted to user 'xxxxyyy' are insufficient for performing this operation. When a user is deleted and then readded to active directory. Reporting services returns the insufficient permissions granted error. In dbo.users in the sql database there are 2 entries for the deleted user one with UserType 0 and another with UserType 1. How do you clean up reporting services or sql to allow the reciently re-added user to re-connect to reporting services. We use the MY-Reports option of reporting services but cannot delete the home directory for this user either in report Mgr. The same error is returned for this action.
