Reporting Services :: Word Export Requires Protected View Off To See Headers
Oct 15, 2015
I've got a report which, when exported to word, comes up with only the body of the report visible, and with the protected view warning present in Word 2013. When I enable editing, the header and footers appear correctly. What is happening here, and how do I correct it, if at all? I don't know that my customer is likely to accept having to enable editing to address this.

Hello there.
on "SQL Server Chat: Reporting Services Is Here" which was at January 28, 2004 this question got asked:
Host: Lukasz (Microsoft)
Q: How far are you from having export to Excel 97/2000 and Word working? I heard there are plans.
A: We are investigating doing these rendering extensions. We do not have a fixed timeframe for this work.
This is 2.5 years ago.In this thread:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=13161&SiteID=1
the same question got asked again.
Are there any advances to this topic?
Thanks, Tobias.

I have a request from the customer to export a report to Word as a read-only document. I am restricted to out-of-the-box SSRS 2008, so I cannot write any custom export functionality.
The customer has the ability to export as PDF, and I suggested that, but before I tell them there's no easy solution, I wanted to get input from other Reporting Services folks.

For the past couple of days I've been having an issue with Reporting Services. From what I can understand reporting services doesn't work well when exporting to word.
The scenario is quite simple, I am developing a report for a client with a 'master page', which works as the cover, and executes 2 sub-reports with one table each, nothing fancy. We don't export this report to pdf, because the internal client has to attach another report that is impossible to automate, so they generate that report via excel and integrate it on our word document before sending the document to their business partners.
Our main problem is that we can't export the header/footers to word.

Ok, I'm new to reporting services and I am wondering if this is possible for headers in a table.
I have a stored procedure that returns the text that I want to display as a header in a report. The input parameter is the database field name. I don't want to put the actual field name as the report header, but the text that I derived from passng in the field name.
I figured I could create a dataset with this stored procedure, and put the header text field that the procedure returns in the header column. However, the problem is that I need to use this same field for each header column in my table and pass in the corresponding field name based on the column that I place this field in.
Unfortunately, I don't see a way to reuse this and pass in different parameters per column, it seems like you can only call the procedure once per dataset and not reuse it per column, leaving me with passing in a single field name and getting the same header text for every column in the table.
I may be able to get around this issue by creating a different dataset for each column in the table and passing in the field name for each dataset, but this sounds like a bad way of doing things.
Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge that can help me in my situation? Basically, I need dynamically changing headers based on an input parameter...if there is another way to do this, pleas let me know, thanks.

Hello all,
I am creating a report in SSRS and the data is obtained through a stored procedure. One of the parameters is Begin_Date. This is simply a date field. I need to have it on the Page Header section. However, when I placed it there and ran the report, I received the following error -
Error2[rsFieldInPageSectionExpression] The Value expression for the textbox ‘begindate’ refers to a field. Fields cannot be used in page headers or footers.
Is there a way around? I have never faced such a problem when I created reports in Crystal or ActiveReports. Please let me know whether I am missing anything.
Thanks in advance,
Saurav

My problem is specific to the ReportViewer control. The report displays correctly in every other way (ssrs server viewer, visual studio preview, visual studio 'Run', etc)The aspx page hosting the control has two controls, the reportviewer control (assembly 10.0.0.0), and a scriptmanager control asyncrendering = 'true' and processingmode = 'remote'.So the columns are not 'always visible' with the reportviewer but they are with every other renderer that i've tried.
The report i'm testing is just a simple table with a couple groupings (built using the wizard). To enable the fixed headers I went to the groupings view and changed the "FixedData" property of the first Static member to true per instructions.

I have created a new report & add a table to it. When I select "Tablix Properties" and check on Columns Headers -> "Repeat Cheader columns on each page" the header columns do not repeat on each page. I also tried "Repeat header rows on each page". "Add page break before" seems to work ok. I am using VS 2008 9.0.30729.1 SP..I also tried deploying but it still does not work on the deployed version.

We had finished converting a lot of our reports from Crystal Reports to SSRS. Upon doing so, one report, the customer's invoice has comments in the report that contain (s) at then end of a word to indicate singular or plural. Crystal reports handled the wrap correctly and kept the word together including the (s), but in SSRS, the (s) is being wrapped to the next line, which doesn't look good at all.

In Visual Studio, when previewing a report with a footer that has two rows of text, the footer appears to display correctly. When I export to Word, the footer for the first page looks as if it has shifted down slightly and the second line is missing. Subsequent pages show the footer correctly.

I build a tablix A in SSRS, which contains a tablix B and a textbox C. When the report is exported to word,  I found that there is white space between the tablix B and textbox C if the row of tablix B is spilled over to next page.
If I export the report to PDF, the white space issue is gone.

I have a report which shows up as below,
Product Type - A
Product Name  - 1
Product Price - Â 1
Product Name - 2
Product Price - 2
Product Type - B
Product Name - 1.1
Product Price - 1.1
Product Name - 2.1
Product Price - 2.1
Product Name - 3.1
Product Price  - 3.1
Similarly i have different Product types and product names and its prices underneath each product type. As you can see, there might be varied number of products under the product type so i am grouping it on Product type. The issue is when i export the report to pdf or word, when ever we have a big group of Product Type( example: Product Type X and it has 10 different Products under it) along with few other smaller groups, the big group tends to jump on to the next page of word or pdf and leaves a big empty space in the previous page. Any way i can break those big groups and  fit  as many as we can on the page and the rest should follow onto the next page rather than leaving the previous page with blank space.Â

I am creating a report in SSRS which has the following criteria:
- Row 1 (parent) is 'Product'
- Row 2 (child) is  'Feed'
- Columns are date. Â I have 5 dates showing at any one time across the top. Â The date field is set up as a parameter so depending on the date the user selects, the report will show that date on the end column and then the 4 days prior to that in the other columns. Â Â
 - Data is the number of records.
I have a sub total on the Product and the report is collapsed on Product as default.
What i'm stuck on is trying to insert a column at the very end that will show the variance between the last two dates. Â So the difference between the date the user selected (@date parameter) and the day before that.Â

we are running 2014 enterprise. A couple of column headings (even with smaller font) are a little tall, as much as 6 "lines".   All headings in the respective matrices are aligned vertically as "bottom". When I save the report to excel, these taller headings get chopped off visually in their excel cell.  The cell contains the entire heading. It appears that the second "line" of the heading is the one that is most visible in excel.Â
How do I get these to be saved so user will see entire heading when opening excel doc? In the first matrix there is a text box directly above the matrix and only one row of column headings. In the second there is a higher column group heading containing month name above the problem headings.Â

I know this is a way-out question, and I'm not confident of a positiveanswer, but I'd like to know whether it is possible to protect/secure a Viewso that it can only be used as a TARGET in a join operation, as opposed tobeing used for direct SELECT.for example:SELECT * FROM MyView -- would failbutSELECT * FROM Customer cLEFT OUTER JOIN MyView v ( on v.Key = c.ViewKey ) -- would succeedThe question is predicated on an idea that sometimes data is permissable toaccess when presenting it as "secondary data" because we are accessingindividual "points" of data, but we don't want people accessing the entiredata-set.I know that the JOINed query above could be made into another View, bypassMyView altogether (simply reference the underlying table), in which caseMyView becomes superfluous and the desired outcome is achieved.Except that: depending on the combinations of JOINS, and if there aremultiple of them, I might end up with a large number of views to allow forall the combinations of different joins that I want. For example, a tablewith 6 foreign keys has 64 different combinations to cover the differentjoins I might or might not want to make. A table with 10 foreign keys takesthat up to 1024 combinations etc.

I€™m trying to find a way to export all data from a table in to a csv file with a header. I€™m not concerned at this point with dynamic headers (that would be nice but at this point I€™m not picky). I would just like to find a way to programmatically drop a table to a csv file.
use tempdb
go
create view vw_csvexport
as
select
'"' + convert(varchar(50), Name) + '"',
'"' + convert(varchar(50), ID) + '"'
from TestHeaderTable
union all
SELECT top 100 percent
Name = '"' + name + '"',
ID = '"' + convert(varchar(50), ID) + '"'
FROM TestDataTable
go
DECLARE @bcpCommand varchar(2000)
SET @bcpCommand = 'bcp tempdb..vw_export out
c: est002.txt -c -T -S SERVER'
EXEC master..xp_cmdshell @bcpCommand
I get this error when I run this query
Create View or Function failed because no column name was specified for column 1.
If I€™m going about this the completely wrong direction let me know so I can get heading the right direction to get this done.

We have a prticular report, that when exported to Excel throughReporting services exports fine, but has an additional Excel sheetlabeled DocumentMap with bogus code in it and it has the focus bydefault. There is another tab called Sheet1 which has the correctreport data. Any idea how to get rid of this DocumentMap tab/sheet?

When the SSRS report exported to CSV file, all the column headers are added in the first row. The issue here is, I have hidden( thru Visibility property) some of the columns in the report but those columns are also displayed in the header row(first row)CSV file and the blank values for their corresponding data.for example, I have displayed only below 3 columns out of 6 columns in the report.col1, col2, col3but the CSV generated as below:
format..col1,col2,col3,col4,col5,col6a1,a2,a3,,,b1,b2,b3,,,c1,c2,c3,,,
I don't want the highlighted items. The TableColumn Visibility property has been setup as below..
=IIF(Fields!col4.IsMissing, TRUE, FALSE)
When the report is exported to other formats(like Excel,XML..)Â this works fine.. i.e., no hidden columns are displayed.

We are facing some problem while exporting the SSRS (SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed on win2K3) Report to PDF format, problem is when we export report to PDF format all the data after 80 columns gets wrapped to next page which not only increases no. of pages in the reports but also disturbs the report format for example if a report contains only one page and 320 columns of data and if we export it to PDF format then the PDF file will have 4 pages each having 80 columns of date. Has anybody faced the similar issues? would appreciate if you can give solution for this problem or forward any link which discusses the same.

I manage a Sales MIS Reports System, which has been in Production since 2006 for a Pharma company. The web app is built on ASP.NET with SQL Server Reporting Server 2012. This May we migrated to SQL Reporting Services 2012, as IPad support for reports was
required.
A Safari on IPad limitation which we knew of and documented was lack of "Export to Excel" feature for SSRS 2012 reports (only export to .PDF and .TIFF supported). The same report on a desktop browser allows me all export functionality.
But now an overwhelming number of IPad users have come back with the requirement to support "Export to Excel" on the IPad.We were also surprised to discover that few of these users were provided IPads last year and they were accessing the old SSRS 2008 R2 reports (even though we did not support it).Â
And these users were exporting reports to excel on the IPad since last year. These users are especially annoyed that we broke existing functionality while moving to a new version which was supposed to support IPads.
how we can provide the "Export to Excel" functionality for these IPad users.
