Reporting Services Error 500 -- Report Server Not Responding
Jan 15, 2008
For a week now, I have been reading every fix I can find for the infamous Reporting Services error(s) and none of the fixes have worked for me. I have checked permissions and memberships of the reporting services groups, removed xmlns as mentioned, made sure that the Classic App Pool was being used, started, stopped, reinstalled, made sure the RSWebApplication.config had the URL or not, either way nothing is working for me.
Is there some place where all of the various fixes are consolidated? Can anyone help me? I'm dying over here. It worked on a previous image and I rebuilt it and can't get it to work. I have SQL 2005 sp2 on Vista...all of the IIS requirements are met and the RS configuration utility reports that everything is fine.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi -
I got through the installation hoops for SQLEXPRESS Reporting Services in Vista and set up the default configurations in Report Services Configuration. I can explore the default directory for "Reports" in IIS7, but I can't browse in IE. I get the "The report server is not responding. verify that the report server..." message in the browser. This is after I migrated the app per the initial http 500 error using the preferred method - %systemroot%system32inetservAPPCMD.exe migrate config "Default Web Site/Reports".
I'm running Vista Ultimate, VS2005, SQLEXPRESS SP2. I've tried running IE as admin and also I've disabled UAC from gpedit.msc - ...Windows SettingsSecurity SettingsLocal PolicySecurity Options and unchecking UAC.
Thanks,
Mike

Hello Everyone,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 with Reporting Services on Windows Server 2003. I can run through reporting services configuration and completed all the required steps to initialize it. I'm using Reporting Services 2005 SP1 and wrote some code to render reports server-side.
My sample report has few parameters that must be passed so I pass these parameters with code.
<My code>
ReportServiceExecution.ReportExecutionService rs = new ReportServiceExecution.ReportExecutionService();
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
string extension, mimeType, encoding;
ReportServiceExecution.Warning[] warnings;
string[] streamID;
ParameterValue[] parameters = new ParameterValue[2];
parameters[0] = new ParameterValue();
parameters[0].Name = "pID";
parameters[0].Value = "6548747";
parameters[1] = new ParameterValue();
parameters[1].Name = "pClass";
parameters[1].Value = "8";
ExecutionHeader header = new ExecutionHeader();
ExecutionInfo executionInfo = rs.LoadReport(reportPayslip.Name, null);
executionInfo = rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue = header;
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue.ExecutionID = executionInfo.ExecutionID;
byte[] report = rs.Render("PDF", "<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></DeviceInfo>", out extension, out mimeType, out encoding, out warnings, out streamID);
</My code>
Actually, I have several more parameters but I've checked the collection and all the parameters I want are there and have values. Their names match those found in executionInfo.Parameters. But when I run my code I get the following error on Render():
<Error>
"This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'pClass'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value."
</Error>
I've double-checked and my parameter array does have the problematic parameter, I passed it a value but when I check executionInfo.Parameters I see that it's the only parameter that hasn't been give a default value after calling SetExecutionParameters(). So my parameters do seem to be passed but one seems to refuse getting a value. If I comment out the SetExecutionParameters() line I get, as expected a similar error but on another parameter (first one in the executionInfo.Parameters collection). So I'm left to beleive that the SetExecutionParameters() has some kind of bug as it works for all but one parameter. I've checked casing, spelling, tried passing phony parameters and from what I've seen I should be getting an error when I pass the parameters if I got something wrong.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I'm having problems navigating from one report to another one if the second report has a multi-valued report parameter. When I navigate to the second report, I don't pass any parameters, but I get an error "parameter is missing a value" for the multi-valued report parameter. I have it setup as allow "multi-value" and "blank value". Any idea what the issue might be?
Thanks.

Hi SSRS Experts
I'm trying to create a report using a SAP BI InfoCube as my datasource.
One of the fields in the InfoCube (GL Account) consist of a 3 level hierarchy, which need to be reported on.
The query that I built using QueryBuilder executes fine and displays the hierarchies correctly, but when I preview the report, i get the following error:
An error occurred during local report processing
An error has occurred during report processing
Query execution failed for data set "SAPBWD"
The "0GL_ACCOUNT 1000IE" Object was not found.
0GL_ACCOUNT is the GL account field to report on
1000IE is the selected GL Account Hierarchy to be displayed
Here's the query that was generated using query builder:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[D2A3Y7ANS9YOF2FONXMUS9RAI] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY {[0GL_ACCOUNT 1000IE].[LEVEL03].ALLMEMBERS * [ZF_MC].[LEVEL01].ALLMEMBERS } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM [ZFGL_M03/ZREP_BOR001] CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING SAP VARIABLES [ZFV_FY] INCLUDING [0FISCYEAR].[Z12007] [ZFV_PC] INCLUDING [0PROFIT_CTR 1000FS].[10000001000033] [ZFV_RM] INCLUDING [0FISCPER3].[005] [ZFV_PV] INCLUDING [0VERSION].[003]
I hope you would be able to assist.
Kind Regards

I am having 3 columns like A,B,C. In the C column I am having calculations like
=CInt(IIf(B=0,100,((A-B)/B)*100))
After this calculation if the column B is 0(zero) corresponding C column get display as "#Error", if B is not having 0 every thing is working fine.
In the calculation if I remove the " /B" it is working fine. So, how to display the value 100 in C if B=0.

I have a report in SSRS 2008 R2 that has multiple subreports, in fact the report uses the same subreport twice with different parameters. Then that subreport also has a subreport, which has a subreport. (It's a complex data scenario with a hierarchy that can go up to three layers deep.) The report renders fine in report viewer, but when I try to export to PDF I get the following error:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.
[Code] ....
Each subreport renders correctly to PDF, and if I remove either subreport from the main report, it also renders correctly. But the two subreports together on the report cause the error.
Removing the third hierarchy layer (the final one) fixes the issue. Is there a limit to the number of nested subreports when rendering to a pdf?

Hi,
RS 2005 (sql 2005 SP1) on Windows 2003 SP1
The report server was running ok until this morning. Its just giving a "The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer." message when trying to open the report manager.
Any ideas?

Firstly I should say my Reporting Services were working fine until I changed a setting in IIS today - under the Virtual Directory for the site I clicked Properties>ASP.NET>Edit Configuration. Changed 'Authentication' to Forms and everything went wrong; changing it back to Windows made no difference.
Now when trying to navigate to Report Server / Report Manager I get these errors:
RS : An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
RM: The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.
Following advice found elsewhere on the web, I checked my web.config file for an an erroneous xmlns entry... but it wasn't there. I have also deleted/recreated my virtual directories from within IIS/RSC. Also I have done a basic reinstall of Reporting Services (from within Add/Remove Programs>Change).
Below are my error logs and the listings for my web.config files; hopefully these will be of use in working out where the problem lies - I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

I am trying to deploy a shape file map of the world with 100 random data points from my dataset but get this error: "exception running the extensions specified in the config file. ---> Maximum request length exceeded". I can preview this fine in SSDT. I have read various solutions which involve editing the config file but I don't have permissions to get to these files. Is there any way to amend the maximum length either through SSMS or SSDT? If not how can I make my map size small enough to deploy? It is a very simple shape file with no colours etc and I am passing random 100 data points to it from my dataset.

Hi,
Sorry for the long post but I'll try to give a maximum of information.
I've tried to implement Form Authentication for Reporting Services. Right now, just about everything works as I would hope for, i.e.:
When I try to access http://<server>/ReportServer$SQLSERVER_2005, I am redirected to the authentication form.
When successfully authenticated, I can access the report
I can display reports throught the ReportViewer Web control by passing the authentication cookie.
Etc.
(Note: My implementation of Form Authentication was inspired by http://www.devx.com/dotnet/Article/26759/0/page/1 which seems similar to Microsoft Sample)
(The $SQLSERVER_2005 suffix is because SQL Server 2000 is also installed on the server, but I don't think Reporting Services 2000 is installed)
There is one thing which does not work however and it is the Report Manager.
When I try to access http://<server>/Reports$SQLSERVER_2005, I would expect to be redirected to the /Pages/UILogon.aspx page. Instead, I get an error page with the following message:
"The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer."
Both ReportServer and Reports are on the same server, both have the same security on the folder and in IIS (6.0), both have Anonymous security access "checked".
If I revert to the old .config files (prior to my modifications for Form Authentication) and remove Anonymous from IIS for both sites, everything works fine (like it did after the installation).
Here are excerpts from the config files I've modified in ReportManager:
RSWebApplication.config:
<UI>
<CustomAuthenticationUI>
<loginUrl>/Pages/UILogon.aspx</loginUrl>
<UseSSL>False</UseSSL>
</CustomAuthenticationUI>
<ReportServerUrl>http://<servername>/ReportServer$SQLSERVER_2005</ReportServerUrl>
</UI>
rsmgrpolicy.config:
<CodeGroup
class="FirstMatchCodeGroup"
version="1"
PermissionSetName="FullTrust"
Description="This code group grants MyComputer code Execution permission. ">
<IMembershipCondition
class="ZoneMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Zone="MyComputer" />
Web.config:
<identity impersonate="false" />
Here is the content of the log ReportServerWebApp_*.log (see error in bold):

Hi
I have created reports using RS.The reports that are generated are build and deployed sucessfully.But when i run the reports through http://localhost/ReportServer I am not able to see the Report. A blank page is displayed with no error message.Whenever i change the Url to http://computername/ReportServer then also the same problem arises.
I have already checked the ReportServer Instance and the Folder on which Reports are Deployed.I mean I am able to access the ReportFolder, the Report also, but the Report is not shown.
Thanks In Advance
Regards
Navdeep

I've installed Reporting Services 2008R2 STD edition on my local system. I was trying to configure the Report Server, I am able to connect to the Report Server but the ReportDB and ReportTempDB are getting created in Database Engine instead of Report Server, when I connect to Report Server from SSMA this is what I see (Attached) Screen 1.
The screen2 is of Reporting Service Config Manager, When I connect to the report server using the URL what I am seeing is blank last screen shot attached.
