I have a report that I need to develop in landscape format. Also I need it to be landscape when converting to PDF and taking printouts. let me know the exact height and width measurements in inches for the report and report body?
I need the margin to be 0.5 inch.

Hello,
I am trying to print a report in landscape mode from VS 2003 from designer preview or at run time. The users don't want to change a mode manually. I tried to make width 11 or 11.5 in and height 8.5in with zero margins and 0.5in (tried a lot of combinations) - doesn't work! still printing in portrait. Please help! Thank you

On our project we export SSRS reports to Excel. Report Definition Language (RDL) enables you to use several measurement units (for example, inches, pixels, centimeters, and points) to specify position and size values. However, Excel uses only points. Therefore, the SSRS Excel rendering extension converts the height and width of the table, the heights of the rows, and the widths of the columns to points.
This process may include rounding some values. In this situation, the table height or width and the sum of the row heights or column widths are different. To compensate for the difference, the SSRS Excel rendering extension inserts a small row or column to the workbook.
To prevent that ‘hidden’ row or column, we configure the table height and width to a value specified in "pt" (points) rather than "cm". 1 cm is about 28 points. Is it possible to configure SSRS to use points by default while designing a report?

I have reports, set to print on Landscape and Legal ie 14 * 8.5. However, when certain users try to print the report, it prints it in Letter, even though the report is set to print in legal /landscape.
The strange part is that for most users it prints correctly in legal, only for some it is on letter. Any idea why this would happen?

When I am working on an Integrations Services project and I open a Reporting Services file, it displays it in the Code view. Is there a way to display it in the Design view? Or do I have to close the project and open up a Reporting Services project?

I have a matrix report and as per the requirement, I must format the row colors. First row must be no color and second row must be light blue. This color formatting would repeat for remaining rows in the matrix. I tried to select the entire row in the matrix, selected "Background Color" option and in "Expression" window, I entered "=IIf(RowNumber(nothing) MOD 2, "White","LightBlue")".This resulted in the color formatting of columns in the matrix report.

I am using SSRS 2008 R2 and have a report set up on a subscription to be exported to a .TXT file and placed in a network drive folder. The report generates as it should and is placed in the network folder as it should and the file format is .TXT. However, when the text file is uploaded to an ftp site, the results of the very first record within the system the file is uploaded to, has 3 weird leading characters.
But the rest of the records are imported perfectly, as they should be. The system that the file is being uploaded into is not our system, it is a system at a USA Today Newspaper office and is an IBM iSeries server with the programming language of LANSA (Never heard of it).
I have edited the report server configuration file to give the ability to export the report to a .TXT file format and I have included the code snippet on here. Maybe I have missed something, not sure. I have also included the screenshot of the file upload results that were sent to me by USA Today. Is there anything I can do to get those 3 characters to not show up in the first record?

I have a very frustrating problem. But given that this is a development forum, I'll keep that for my 'Envelope Lickers Rehab' and instead talk about an issue I'm having.
I have a very large query (line-wise) that executes in less than a minute when run from the SQL Management Studio as well as via Excel Services.
It is a stored procedure with one parameter. When I try to prime the designer with this query it gives me the following message:
"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
The statement has been terminated."
I've considered cracking open the xml source and manually creating the fields, but I'd rather not go there.

How do I design reports so they look good when viewed online?
Is there anyway for it to render nicely on a particular resolution or screen? Never done any web dev, so not sure if I am missing something.
At the moment I am just designing the report so it looks right on my box.
However by trying to maximise the space when viewed online, it means exporting to pdf ends up being a disaster.

I am building reports based on Report Builder and SQL server 2014.
Our report data are hosted on azure sql database.
Date time on azure are stored as UTC.
When I run my report locally, how can I format correctly the date/time format on my report in order that if I am in French, I should have the date/time set to UTC + French offset. How can I do this ?

We are facing an issue where the report rendering for specific report parameters is failing with an exception

The server is running in Native mode. We tried restarting the services and also verified the disk space. Neither of them worked. The ExecutionLog3 table in the "ReportServer" database shows a rrenderingError as the report execution status. Hi,
I am trying to place text boxes in the header of a matrix in order to give each row group(i.e. each drill-down area in my matrix a header). This can be done in Reporting Services 2005.
However when I deploy this report to the corresponding url(Report Manager) it seems to be losing its formatting and not displaying correctly. The textboxes placed in the matrix header seem to go all over the place.
I do get a warning when I deploy the report ->
[rsOverlappingReportItems]. Some renderers do not support overlapping report items.
How can this be rectified?

Hi All,
For developing a report I'm using SQL Server 2000 with SP4 & MS Visual Studio .Net 2003. After expoting a report in excel format file, the size of the excel file is so much big that while openning the report file it seemed to be hanged the PC.
Is there any way to reduce the size of the excel in reporting services?

I'm trying to add a custom report format to ssrs 2005 as per this [URL] I've added the code snippets in the example to three different ssrs 2005 server RSReportServer.config files but it does not work i.e do not show up in the export drop down when rendering report.
I've tried starting and stopping reporting services and it still does not works.
I've also modified the existing csv extension with different options to see if it works but to no avail.However it works with SSRS2008 R2 . In fact it works right after I saved the config file, no restart needed.For SSRS2005 the file is in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServer. I checked the registry setting just to make sure I'm looking at the correct installation 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', 'SOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsClientSetup', 'SQLPath' The three ssrs2005 instances are in three different physical servers and the problem is with all of them so it is not an isolated incident. I've dbowner rights to all three servers. The server versions are 9.0.4060, 9.0.4035 and 9.0.4053

In an asp.net app I'm creating email attachments from ssrs reports and am rendering them In Word and Excel using the WORDOPENXML and EXCELOPENXML format extensions. When I render the report in excel, the image is sized correctly, however, when I render the same report in word, its very small. I will attach a screenshot of each, and in the word screenshot, I will select the image so you can see the image control's outline (the control's actual size). Notice the image inside of the border is very small. How can I resolve this?

Hi, I need help please!
Apologies for the silly question.
I have a problem where i need to show 18 columns in 1 row but can get it in one row, the most the user wants is 2 rows but the first 4 columns cant be touched.
eg.

I am kind of lost on how to show this in a nice format.
Does anyone have any creative idea, as i would like to capture the users.
The Fields are also lengthy so it makes it difficult.

I am using SQL reporting services 2005 to generate the report,were i am displaying the date,the problem is when i deployed and use different format(XML,CSV,PDF) to see the result,the required dateformat is not displayed in the XML format.so if at all i want the required format then i want to know how to customize CSV format, What i need to do plz do provide me the links for the reporting services.i am just a beginner with reporting services.

I am new to Reporting Services, and I would like to serve up SQL 2005 Reporting Services reports via an ASP.NET web app (possibly using Report Viewer controls in Server mode). The web app will be running on an IIS server outside the firewall.
I would prefer to have the Reporting Services server be inaccessible outside the firewall, but it seems that the client browsers need direct URL access to the Reporting Services server. I guess this means either locating the Reporting Services server outside the firewall, or opening a hole in the firewall for access to the Reporting Services server.
Is there a Microsoft best-practice methodology/white-paper that addresses this scenario (especially as regards security concerns)?
Alternately, would it be possible, and would the same report presentation functionality be available (reports with expanding/collapsing sections, choice of export formats, etc), by calling the Reporting Services web service directly from the ASP.NET app, and manually populating the Response object?

when I try to open the SSRS in BIDS ( VS 2008), it is displaying the code portion alone. If i click 'View Designer', it prompts me like "....already opened. Do you want to close?" Only XML content of report is displaying. if I click 'Viee Code' then it displays error like "There is no editor available for 'c: eport Sample. rdl'.Make sure the application for the file type (.rdl) is installed."how to correct this issue by installing or by upgrading?

I have a report that is setup to print landscape.
I deploy to Report Manager, print it, and everything works great.
If I create a linked report from the deployed report, the linked report prints portrait.
Does anyone know of a workaround or am I just doing something wrong?

I manually build my url for my reports. In the url I build, I can specify the output format I would like it to automatically use when the report opens. However, it always first opens the dialog box to either Save, Open, or Cancel. Is there anyway to bypass this and just open it in the format I have coded in the url? Thanks.

Firstly sorry if this already exists but I can't find it the answer anywhere.
I'm running Visual Studio 2005 Reporting Service. I have a SQL query which is reutrning a count of second which I need to display in HHH:MMS format.
integer value = 144322 which is displaying as 16:05:22 or 02/01/1900 16::05
the end result needs to be 40:05:22
It is quite visable what SQL is doing but I am having big issues around how to reach the result.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi, this question is related to Reporting Services on SQL Server 2000. When creating a report and setting it to send via email as an attached excel spreadsheet, the email is in the format HTML. Does anyone know if it possible to default this format to something else like Rich Text. I have a feeling that this might involve a change to the RSEmailDPConfiguration within the RSReportServer.config file but am not sure which tag needs changing or adding.
Any help/suggestions greatfully received.
