I'm trying to create a RS report that will use an AS2005 cube as a datasource. I did try to use the query wizard from reporting services to build the mdx statement but I'm having a hard time with it... How could I use the following MDX statement in a reporting services report?? Do you have to use the query builder?
Here's what I need to do. I need to programmatically create offline cubes for multiple customers. Using VS2005 (C#) and SQL Server 2000, I am able to do this using the CREATE GLOBAL CUBE command. However, I need to create cubes from SQL Server 2005 as we have upgraded and the CREATE GLOBAL CUBE command does not work as it did before. I've search and found examples using AMO, but they create a server cube. I already have a server cube. I need to be able to create filtered offline cubes from the existing server cube. I've also read much on XMLA, but that doesn't do it for me either. The code below creates an empty offline cube. However, is there a way to use this to create a cube with data? I am creating this in a windows application.
Although I can create the local cube, the cube that is created is very large because it brings over all accounts for the employee. In AS2K, it filtered automatically and only returned accounts that had revenue, which is what I'm trying to do using AS2005. I've read some of the responses about using XMLA and AMO, but I am not sure how to use these within the VS2005 windows application that I use to create and distribute the local cubes. Does anyone have a good example of how to use XMLA, AMO or anything else that would allow me to programmatically create and filter offline cubes using C#?
For instance, this code DOES create an empty cube. But how would I go about getting data into this cube? Server server = new Server(); server.Connect(@"Data Source=c:MyLocalCube.cub"); server.Disconnect();
can any one sugest Quering AS2005 Cube to generate CSV or Excel in SISS 2005
i have a mdx query that runs fine in SQLserver 2005 but when use OLEDN source in SSIS and connect to Flatfile source i am getting OLEDB exception is there any work arround i have SQL Server 2005 SP2 on Windows 2003
I'm trying to create report with datasource as a cube. I'm able to connect to datasource to pull data with a single parameter. But, I'm unable to succeed in the following scenario: I have a dimension "Period" as Paremeter. The Period dimension has a hierarchy as year- quarter- month. So, I would like to create a drilldown parameter for period as year - quarter - month.
I need to change the default member of my Time dimension according to a parameter received by a report in Reporting Services. When I code the MDX query I can't seem to be able to begin my statement with an ALTER CUBE to set the default dimension. It seems I can only do a SELECT..FROM..WHERE query.
Does anyone know how to set the default member of a dimension in a report ??
I'm using a SSIS cube as source for reporting services. In my DataSet I have 3 parameters: Year, ProductGroup, Product. By default all parameters are cascading when defined on the DataSet. This is great for ProductGroup -> Product, but I don't want it for Year -> ProductGroup (I want to avoid the roundtrip). I removed the link in the generated MDX, I removed the parameters on the DataSet, but when I run the report, ProductGroup is still grayed out until I choose a year.
sorry im new with using Reporting Services and even more inexperienced with using cubes.
My situation is as follows. I perform dynamic grouping (user selects the view via a parameter) Depending on the view selected, I need to change the dimension filter in the dataset.. Is this possible ?
I have an SSRS report that gets its data from an SSAS cube, and it essentially displays a list of students and absences. Everything works fine.
But the users only want to see the top N students with the highest absences. For example, today they want to see the top 100, but during summer vacation, they only want to see the top 5.
Is there a way to add this parameter to the SSRS report? So if I select "5" from the dropdown parameter, it will show the top 5 absences.
The query that I use to populate the report is something simple:
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Absences] } ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { ([Dim Date].[Date Key].[Date Key].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim Student].[Lte Cell Key].[Lte Cell Key].ALLMEMBERS ) } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOSET(@DimDateDateKey, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [Daily Cube]) CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS
When creating a report using reporting Services with a cube as a datasource, visual studio 2005 hangs. I have applied SP1 to visual studio.net 2005 .
This is the query generated by query designer in reporting services. When I try to drag and drop another dimension to slice it by , visual studio hangs.
The fact table has just 10,000 records. Are the number of dimensions used to slice the cube too many? How do I optimize this query?
SELECT NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Avg MT Rate - Speech], [Measures].[Change in Avg MT Rate], [Measures].[Edited Lines Per 1000], [Measures].[Speech Utilization], [Measures].[Time Saved %], [Measures].[Speech Edited for Rev 1], [Measures].[Change in Account Productivity], [Measures].[Hours Saved], [Measures].[Lines Per 1000], [Measures].[Average MT Rate - Total Production], [Measures].[Typed Lines], [Measures].[Productivity Time in hours - Edited Docs],[Measures].[Productivity Time in Hours - Typed Docs],[Measures].[Productivity Time in Hours]} ON COLUMNS, NON EMPTY { ([Dim Customer].[Customer Name].[Customer Name].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim Customer].[Dictator Site Name].[Dictator Site Name].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim Date].[The Month].[The Month].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim Date].[The Year].[The Year].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim MT].[Creator Last Name].[Creator Last Name].ALLMEMBERS * [Dim MT].[Creator First Name].[Creator First Name].ALLMEMBERS ) } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME ON ROWS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOMEMBER(@FromDimDateTheYear, CONSTRAINED) : STRTOMEMBER(@ToDimDateTheYear, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM ( SELECT ( STRTOMEMBER(@FromDimDateTheMonth, CONSTRAINED) : STRTOMEMBER(@ToDimDateTheMonth, CONSTRAINED) ) ON COLUMNS FROM [ETL DW])) CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS
I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified. Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script) at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'? Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?
My company is trying to decide which one would be better, creating a report model off of relational tables, or using an AS cube. right now, I use Visual studio for report development. but a big part for the users is Ad-hoc reporting. What are the ups and downs of both (AS cube and Relational table, report model (Ad-hoc). And what would you suggest? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
I'm new here so I'm not sure if this is the correct spot to post this question but here goes.
In the cube design view under the Calculations tab I have several calculated members that I have created. Each of these are dollar amount fields for which I have defined a Format String property as follows:
Format String: "$#,##0;($#,##0);;N/A"
This format correctly handles my positive value, Negative value and my NULL value the way I want. However I need to deloy this cube on one of my UK severs and I don't want the $ but instead I would like the pound sign without having to recreate this entire project to do so. I have tried the following syntax but it is incorrect.
Format String "Currency;;;N/A"
Can someone help me with the correct way to code the property so that I can get my currecy symbol based on the regional setting as well as handle my NULL values.
I have an Analysis Services Cube that I would like to report on. However, the Time Dimension currently only has four columns, Day of Month, Month(name) , Year, and DateKey (DateTime representation at midnight for every day). Thus when I drag the month attribute onto the report, it is sorted April - August - December - etc. instead of Jan - Feb - Mar. How do I fix this? I remember reading something in the MSDN Library about it but I can't find it again now.
VS2005 SSRS2005 SSAS2000 cube based on data from SQL 2005 database
When i connect to the SSAS cube and create a dataset in a SSRS 2005 report i do not get a parameter pane. Also, if i right click on a dimension & select "Add to filter" i get the following error message
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
It's not my installation of SQL 2005, as I can connect to an SSAS2005 cube and get the filter/parameter pane and do not get the error message. Parameters work fine.
Have i come across a known issue when reporting on SQL 2005 versus a SQL 2000 AS Cube... or can someone shed some light on the issue for me....
If someone can tell me how to display screenshots I can add them to a post
I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.
One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:
Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets? Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?
Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.
I'm making my first attempt at creating a cube using Analysis Services based on my exisiting datamart. Datasource, views, and dimensions have been defined. But comes deploying the cube, it's giving the error saying "A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running." The Deploy Target server and database are the same where my datamart is. Or, maybe I don't know what I'm doing.
Would appreciate any suggestion for my enlightenment. Thanks
I have a (hopefully typical) problem when it comes to cube design. Westore millions of product records every year, broken down bymonth/quarter. Each product can be assigned to various heirarchialclassification groups etc. The data in an OLTP DB occupies roughly100G for a typical year. We're looking at breaking this out into OLAP to provide faster accessto the data in various configurations and groupings. This is not aproblem, as this is the intended use for Analysis Services. The problem is that we apply projection factors on the product pricesand quantities. This would be ok if it only happened once, however, this happens every quarter (don't ask why). The projection factorschange 4 times a year, and they affect all historical product records. This presents a challenge because to aggregate the data into a usefulconfiguration in the cubes, you throw out the detail data, but thismeans throwing out the price and quantities which are needed to applythe projection. So if you have Product A at $10 and Product B at $20, and roll both upinto Category X, you'll have $30, but you'll lose the ability to applya projection factor of .5 to Product A and .78 to Product B. They'rerolled up.I don't want to regenerate the cubes every 3 months. That's absurd. But we can't live without the ability of projection theprices/quantities on a product level (detail level). So how can thisbe achieved when the other cubes are created at a higher level withless details and sums of the detail data?My initial guess is that we have to update the product data, and thenreaggregate all the other data that is built upon that product data.Is there any other way to apply math to the data on the way out? Thanks in advance!Regards,Zach
I want to process my cube using Process Data and Process Index instead of the Process Full. However, after configuring the 2 Analysis Services Processing Tasks (one for process data and the other for process index) and were executed sequentially (process data first then process index), I got this error:
Errors in the metadata manager. The process type specified for the CASES cube is not valid since it is not processed
Have I done the right thing?
The reason why I prefer using the Process Data and then Process Index, it's because it is much faster than the latter.
If there are any AS gurus out there, I could use some help. I've been having some problems with particular AS dimension and cubes and it's driving me crazy! It doesn't matter what I do, nothing seems to work.
Anyway, here's what I'm trying to do. I've got a fairly simple dimension. There is a date stored in the dimension that is formatted as an int. The dimension needs to only display AGE, so I cast the int as a date and do a datediff to get AGE. The dimension builds just fine and I get the results I want. My problem is when I add the dimension to the cube. The cube fails to build and I get an error message - "Data source provider error: The column prefix 'MY TABLE' does not match with a table name or alias used in the query." Basically, AS is telling me that the table that is used for the dimension doesn't exist, even though the fact and the dimension are joined properly and I've validated the structure.
I've run a number of queries in QA on the two tables and everything works fine. No funky data issues. I've run the service packs a few times, but that didn't work either. I've tried making a cube that only has the just fact table and the one dimension table, and it still fails.
Basically, I'm out of ideas. Any help that anyone has is greatly appreciated.
How do I connect to an Analysis Services 2000 cube while in Integration Services? My idea is to execute an MDX query from within a package, and then stage the data to a SS 2005 table for a RS report to query.
I try to generate ad hoc reporting model for analysis services cube in reporting services. in Management Studio I connected to reporting services, defined a data source to the analysis services database. But If i try to generate model i get the error: "While connection with a data source a mistake has appeared, or the query is invalid for the data source. (rsCannotPrepareQuery)(Report Services SOAP Proxy Source)"
