Reporting Services Setup

Jul 31, 2004

I installed and started playing around with Reporting Services and realized that you are required to run IIS on your SQLserver in order to use RS. Is this 100% true?

Please tell me there is an alternative...this is huge roadblock due to company policy.

Thanks.

Reporting Services Setup And Problems

I have posted this to the general SQL Server group but without any response. I have also searched all of the forums and have not found an answer. For some reason all of a sudden, my Reporting Services is failing with this message when trying to connect:

I have now uninstalled SQL Reporting Services, reinstalled it, but I am still getting the same error. From what I can infer, there is a problem with the httpHandler in the web.config file. It cannot load Microsoft.Web.Services.ScriptHandlerFactory.

Does anybody know anything about this or what else I might need to check? This has been going on for two days now and short of totally uninstalling all of SQL, I don't know what to do.

Thanks.

Need Help Getting Reporting Services Setup For Internet Access

Feb 29, 2008

I have report server setup on the same machine where the sql server 2005 db is setup, as well as iis running the website. i simply need to get report server running to allow internet access. I have report server setup so that it is running locally (localhost), however, as soon as I change the iis site settings to a domain name, report server stops working properly. This looks like a permissions issue, Ive tried different combinations of settings, but nothing works. Any insight on how I can get report server setup for internet access (forms authentication), would be much appreciated.

Reporting Services :: SSRS 2012 Setup Parameter Value

Apr 22, 2015

In an existing ssrs 2012 report, I want to basically add the following logic to a new dataset that will be used by a new parameter called 'Inventory'.

SELECT  DISTINCT Inv_number as value,  Inv_name as label
FROM s.dbo.fnUser( @endYear, 0, 0, 0)
WHERE (@report is not null)
order by  label,value

In this ssrs report, there are 15 reports that can automatically be generated. I basically want this new parameter called 'Inventory' to only be active when the 4th report is selected to be generated. Thus in the query I listed above, how can I change the query to only be active when the 4th report is selected?

I tried to change the where clause to (@report(4) is not null), but that did not work.

How To Setup User Security For Reporting Services Used Inside ASP.NET Web Applications?

Dec 13, 2007

I'm working on a project that requires integration of SQL Server Reporting Services with ASP.NET 3.0 Web Applications.
I'm working on Visual Studio 2005, with SQL Server 2005 on an XP development workstation.
SQL Server, Reporting Services, and IIS are all running on my local machine.

I'm trying to prototype two approaches, one using the Report Viewer control, and the second using the Reporting Services Web Service. I have the two examples setup in projects in Visual Studio.
The sample reports and data sources work fine in Visual Studio. I can access the report using the Reporting Services URL like this: http://localhost/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fBTT_BDS_DEV%2fCustomers; Report works fine.

My problem is, that when I try and access the report using the Report Viewer inside an ASP.NET page or from the Web Serivce hooked up inside an ASP.NET Page I get a security errors. I have chosen Windows Security for the Datasource, and ASP.NET pages. In the case of the Web Service, I'm passing in my local domain user name as the credentials.

I'm prototyping this on my local workstation, but I need to design this to be used on our corporate Intranet using Windows Security.

My questions are:

1. How do I need to setup users on my local development workstation to get this to work.
2. How should I plan for user security for enterprise deployment, i.e. using Reporting Services inside a large ASP.NET Web Application?
3. Can anybody give me some links to some good developer type working examples of doing this. I've looked but have not found the answers
to the "how do I setup users" part of the question specifcally related to ASP.NET apps?

Below is the code example of the Web Services example app I'm working with which came out of a book I have on
Reporting Services. This example compiles and seems like it would work but doesn't. Also following are a few of the
error messages I get when experimenting with the example apps:

Errors:

Reporting Services :: How To Setup SSRS For On Demand Access And Fast Cache

Sep 22, 2015

I have a dashboard page that I would like to load fast. But I would also like the user to be able to run the report On-Demand. The report has start date and end date parameters which default to the first and last day of last month. If I use a Cache plan that loads at 6AM the report runs with the default parameters set in the report, the user has to wait until it completes before they can change the parameters.

If I uncheck "use default" parameters in the report I lose the ability to set a cache refresh plan with the default parameters because the option is greyed out. So is there anyway outside of creating a second copy of the report to allow a user to open a report, change the parameters and run it, but also have a way to schedule some sort of Cached report for the default parameters so I can put that on a WebPart page that would load instantly?

Reporting Services Configuration And Database Setup Error Invalid Object Name 'sysdatabases'

Sep 14, 2007

Yesterday, literally I was banging my head to the wall, kept getting this error:

A Connection could not be established with the information provided. Hit OK to change your connection settings.
Invalid object name 'sysdatabases'.

I uninstall and re-install back the reporting services couple times and I kept getting the same error.
I have 2 instances of SQL Server on the same Server:

SQL Server 2000

SQL Server 2005
The 2 instances work side by side, I was wondering if this causing the error.

Can anyone help out with this problem?

Thanks - John

Migrate From 32bit 2000 Reporting Services To 2005 64bit Reporting Services

Mar 22, 2008

Hello,

I am trying to migrate my reports from SQL server 2000 reporting services 32bit to 2005 64bit. I am following the migration steps that MS specified.
Restored my Reportserver and ReportserverTempDB databases
Then I was using the configure Report services to upgrade these databases but I always end up getting the follwoing exception when I run the upgrade on the "Database Setup" configuration for 'ReportServerTempDB' database
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB'. No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlInternalConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.ThrowExceptionAndWarning(TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.TdsParser.Run(RunBehavior runBehavior, SqlCommand cmdHandler, SqlDataReader dataStream, BulkCopySimpleResultSet bulkCopyHandler, TdsParserStateObject stateObj)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.RunExecuteNonQueryTds(String methodName, Boolean async)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.InternalExecuteNonQuery(DbAsyncResult result, String methodName, Boolean sendToPipe)
at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
at Microsoft.ReportingServices.Common.DBUtils.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.SqlClientTools.SqlTools.ApplyScript(String connectionString, String script)

It's driving me crazy, why is it looking for 'ReportServerTempDBTempDB' in the catalog instead of 'ReportServerTempDB'?
Is it possible to migrate from 32bit to 64bit?

Any help is appreciated

Compatibility Of SQL Express Reporting Services With SQL 2000 Reporting Services

Dec 6, 2006

I'm attempting to obtain a cost effective solution for my existing customers to develop reports on their SQL 2000 Server installations using their Reporting Services 2000. With products like Visual Basic.NET 2003 becoming almost impossible to obtain, I have at least one customer who is running into a dead end.

One option possibly is the SQL Express with Advanced Services download, which has Reporting Services. My questions are as follows:

Can the report designer component of SQL Express Reporting Services be configured to connect to an external database (which would happen to be a SQL 2000 database) to establish its datasets?
Does the resultant designed report end up in an RDL file? If the customer published this report via the Reporting Services 2000 Report Manager, would the report be able to run?

Sorry for asking a question like this that I could probably answer on my own, but my customer needed this answer yesterday. I have scoured the web and microsoft sites - and posted a question on the official SQL Reporting Services cateogy ... in an attempt to answer the basic question of how to design reports for Reporting Services 2000 in the absence of Visual Basic.NET 2003 (or other .NET 2003 tools) with no success.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Is it advisable to have all these servicess running on one server especially the IIS SQL Reporting and Analysis...

If i have 10 developers all doing net and cubes they could be overloading the entire Server

Reporting Services :: Localization Data In Reporting Services?

Jul 27, 2015

I work in a big project and we will begin in using reporting services as the base technique for reports and I will be responsible for this part. but I have a problem I will discuss in the following:

Currently: We use currently devexpress reports and we have 2 languages(Arabic and English). the data in tables saved in two ways (Arabic and English). when the end user change the language of the web site the report data language changed when run it.

Example:

we have table with (ID, NAME_AR, NAME_EN, JobTitle_AR, JobTitle_EN). designed report will display(ID, NAME_EN, JobTitle_EN) . but the end user change the language of the system the report will

dispaly(ID, NAME_AR, JobTitle_AR)

Hint:this done pragmatically

how to do this in reporting services.

SQL 2012 :: Setup Replica For Databases For Reporting?

Jun 17, 2015

I would like to setup replica for one of the databases for reporting. The current environment is a 2 node cluster(active/passive). I would like to add a 3rd node that can server as a secondary replica. The secondary replica will be on asynchronous commit mode.

The database that needs to have alwayson setup has column level encryption enabled.

* Do I need to backup and restore the service master key on secondary server in order to have the column level encryption to work on secondary server?

* What would be preferred Quorum settings?

* What is the setting for 'readable secondary' for primary and replica db?

* What should be the setting for 'Connections in Primary Role' for primary and replica db?

* We are trying to setup without a Listner. Do I need to setup AG Listner? Can the application exclusively use the [secondary instance name].[replica DB name] without a listner?

Unable To Configure Database Setup In Reporting Service 2005

Apr 29, 2008

Hi,

I have installed SQL Reporting Service on one server. Using the config tool, I am trying to setup the Reporting Database on a seperate SQL instance. This SQL instance is running on a Clustered SQL 2005 server.

The creation of the Database is sucessful. However when I give the Windows credentials to connect to this database on the same page, I always fail at the following task : Setting Connection Info for Reporting Server. The error message is :

"System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706B3)
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at System.Management.ManagementObject.Get()
at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.SetDatabaseConnection(String server, String database, ConfigurationCredentialsType credsType, String userName, String password)"

The Windows Account I am using has Full SQL Rights to the Clustered SQL Server. I have seen other posts on the forums about the 0x800706B3 error, but most of them are related to a problem with RPC.

The Reporting Services account is runing under 'Network Services'. I am not sure if this is causing the problem?

Thoughts anybody?

Thanks,

Mahmood

To Access Reporting Sevices (Report Manager, Reporting Web Services), Does One Has To Be An Admin On The Machine

Mar 12, 2007

Hi There,

Our DBA has installed reporting services on a server and now in order to access the report manager, one has to be an Admin on that Server. I am guessing that there is a mistake in the configuration of Reporting Services. Usually it should allow anybody who was added to the roles in the properties section of the Report Manager, right? I have also added the users to the DB..

Also I am using Windows Authentication to access Report Catalog items (Reporting Services is installed on Server2) from a web Application(deployed on Server1) and displaying the report using report viewer. For some reason, server1 has to be in an Admin role on Server2 to access the report catalog/report. This is kinda strange for me as I don't want everybody to be an Admin on Server2. Can anybody please point in the right direction?

Thanks.

€śInvalid server name "TESTServerB123". SSIS service does not support multi-instance, use just server name instead of "server nameinstance".

Looks like I must use default instance for 2005 integration services. I re-ran the setup program and added a default instance on the same cluster node. (On that node I have one default instance and one naming instance). Now I can connect to the default SQL Server but when I click on €śstored packages€?, I don€™t see file system and MSDB. It shows nothing at all. Any idea how to make integration services running on a cluster machine?

Thanks

Reporting Services :: Real Time Reporting In SSRS?

Jun 19, 2015

We've got a requirement to build the real time report. user can browse report at any point of time and need to see the latest data(stock market) in the report.

I've few options down...

1. Directly point to OLTP database as source and write stored procedure to show result set.

2. Replicate the database and write the SP's to reports. To avoid pointing directly to OLTP db.

3. To build the datawarehouse with dim & facts to show it in reports. I prefer this as a standard method, but this would have some latency depending on trasaction load which will differ from the requirement.

Reporting Services ReportServer DB Reporting - 3rd Party Tool ?

Jan 15, 2007

HI There

We are required to gather certain information regarding reporting services.

Which reports were requested, by whom , how long did they run for, what parameters were passed etc etc.

I see that the system tables do provide some of this information, is there a 3rd party tool or something we can use to gather all this type of information for us?

This is for reporting services 2000 and 2005.

Thanx

SSE 2005 W/ Advanced Services SP1 Upgrade Setup Failing

Oct 3, 2006

I'm trying to upgrade an existing installation of SSE 2005 to SSE 2005 with Advanced Services SP1 so I can take advantage of Reporting Services. I'm installing on a box that has XP Pro SP2 installed. As prompted by the SSE setup, I had to install IIS. After installing IIS, the setup went along okay until it came time to configure the report server. I chose the default (configure with the default configuration) and I get the following error message:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup failed to obtain system account information for the ASPNET account. To proceed, reinstall the .NET Framework, and then run SQL Server Setup again.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.2047.00&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=SQLSetup90&EvtType=28126

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

Anybody know what is causing the error and how to fix it? I tried the above link and it didn't provide any helpful information. Do I really need to reinstall the .Net Framework (I'm hoping not)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony
