Reports Containing Drill Through Interactive Bar Charts Not Working Properly When Deployed
Feb 9, 2006
Hi all,
Drill through bar charts work great in the report designer preview, but as soon as I deploy the report, and view the report in a webpage, drill through does not work smoothly.
I have to move the mouse around to be able to find a place on the bar to click through to the next report. Sometimes, I am able to click on the bar to go to next report, but then sometimes I have to click on the label, and other times somewhere in the vicinity of the label.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Kanwal

Hello,
I have a drill down report and would like to add interactive sort on two columns:- column 1 & column 2. These two columns should be in descending order. By adding this, when user's click on column 1 they will see the data based on the sorted order.
Does anyone help me on this issue.
Thanks,
BL

I am using Report Builder 3.0 and i have report which has a drill down group. The report opens in a collapsed form.This report has interactive sorting on a column. But,when we drill down and sort the column, the group collapses and the details disappear.
In some posts, i have seen that instead of interactive sorting, people recommended a parameter. But i have to do interactive sorting only.

Interactive sorting works just fine on my report until I set the
execution property to render from snapshot. When viewing a snapshot,
clicking on the column sort arrows will not sort the data I'm viewing. If I turn the snapshot feature off, then I get the interactive sort functionality back.
Is this by design or am I missing something fundamental here?
Using SQL 2005, RS 2005, VS 2005.
Thanks.

Hi,
I am new to reporting services. We are creating a report with drill-down capability. We have a Date dimension hierarchy defined as Year - Month - Day.
On the report, we expect reporting services send MDX query to SSAS to get the total sales just for the the year, say 2007, when we click the year 2007. Then it send query just to aggregate sales for that month when we click a month.
But when we build the reports, it looks like it always aggregate for all levels. So the performance is bad to first open the report.
How do I resolve this issue? Please help.
Thanks,
Jia

I have a report  that has a drill down option that shows all workgroups within a specific  parent group and an interactive sorting ass well on both columns  parent group &  workgroupÂ
This is displayed  in pps combined with a SharePoint
The problem is that after sorting the parent group column by name I then press the drill through icon  (+) next to it hopping to see all workgroups related to each parent group - but insteadÂ
I receive this Reporting Services Error  :
The value for parameter 'SortItem' is not specified. It is either missing from the function call, or it is set to null. (rsMissingParameter)
If I don't press the sorting and just drill through it works fine. the sorting itself also works fine.

I replied to an thread in the pre-2010 forum before I realized the forum I was in...
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 to Design my SSRS reports. The report viewer is using SharePoint 2010 SP1 integrated mode.
I am using a conditional statement to determine which report to drill to based on the SSRS textbox's column.
=iif((Fields!Type.Value =
"Total")OR
(Fields!Type.Value ="Variance - (F)/U"),"DivisionSpendingReport","DivisionSpendingReportDetail")
Works fine in Visual Studio. Once deployed to SharePoint though, the drill through returns an error that says report can't be found. So I added the .rdl to the conditional statement in the report Design.
=iif((Fields!Type.Value =
"Total")OR
(Fields!Type.Value ="Variance - (F)/U"),"DivisionSpendingReport.rdl","DivisionSpendingReportDetail.rdl")
It now works in SharePoint but not in Visual Studio...
Do I need to keep adding and removing the ".rdl" in order to make any changes to this report???!!!

Hi All,
We have 10 charts in One RDL file, out of these 10 charts 3 Pie charts are displayed dynamically,
Using 'Visibility' property expression in the 'Hidden' sub property as below.
Code Block
=iif(Sum(Fields!Total.Value, "DataSet")=0,true,False)
Which returns 'true' or 'false' for 'Hidden' property.
Each chart has to be displayed on separate page, hence we have set 'PageBreakAtEnd' Property to true for each chart.
Problem:
But, when this RDL file is deployed on report server, these charts are all displayed on single page without any page breaks.
however, when the RDL file is exported in PDF format, the report is rendered with charts on separate pages as expected.
Is there any way to ensure the charts are rendered properly, in report viewer of report server ?

I have created several reports in SRS and I deploy them by establishing a VPN connection than deploying. That much works fine.
Now I want to allow user of my website to access the reports by clicking on a link. Do I need to establish user level access for the reports for each user or just one public access account? How do I pass login and credential information with the link so that users can access the report.
Thanks in advance

My reports are not allowing me to "Clickthrough" to more detailed reports.
I want my report to automatically show a detail record when they select some "interactive data" in my reports.
I have read a page on this stuff ( http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345252.aspx ) which states:
In Report Builder, a clickthrough report is a report that provides detailed information about the data contained within the main report. A clickthrough report is displayed when the Report Builder user clicks the interactive data that appears in the main report. These reports are automatically generated by the report server. You, as the model designer, determine what is displayed in clickthrough reports by setting the DefaultDetailAttribute and DefaultAggregateAttribute properties that you assign to an entity in the report model.
Hence, within my report model i have created an entity with a number of DefaultDetailAttributes.
I have not created a specific "click through" report as i would be happy to view the automatically generated report that should contain the attributes defined in the "DefaultDetailAttributes" list.
However, when i view the report, no data items are links (or "interactive data" as the msdn article describe them).
Has anyone got any ideas on how to make the report data interactive?
Thanks,
pete

Hello-
I have developed a number of reports on Win XP with VS2005. They run on our development server, which is running Windows Server 2003 32-bit. I then deploy these reports on our production server, which is running Windows Server 2003 64-bit edition.
Accessing any of the reports from Report Manager results in javascript errors, such as 'Line 41 Error: 'RSClientController' is undefined'
I get these errors also when invoking these reports through a form post.
It appears that some javascript code generated by the report server is missing. Could this be a 32-bit vs 64-bit issue? Report Manager seems to work fine; it is only when I run a report that I have this problem. This is the first time I've tried to deploy reports to this server.
Thanks.

I am just starting with Sql Server reporting, but I can't get interactive sort to work for columns with aggregate fields.
I am using the following query for DataSet:
SELECT
Store.ID as StoreID,
Store.Name as StoreName,
COUNT(*) as NumReservations,
SUM(Appointment.TotalBeforeTaxes) as Revenue
FROM Store LEFT JOIN Appointment ON Store.ID=Appointment.StoreID
GROUP BY ALL Store.ID, Store.Name
ORDER BY Store.Name ASC
For report, I am using tabular data view. Interactive sorting works great for StoreID, StoreName, but doesn't work for NumReservations and Revenue fields. I turned it on for all 4 columns.
What could be causing this problem?

I'm having problem with sorting in matrix. My report looks something like below.
Name* Avg.* | Test1 Test2 Test3
==============================================
Jim 50% | 100% 40% 10%
John 28% | 5% 40% 40%
The column with * need to be sorted. I can sort the name and average fine in Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.2047.00. BUt when I run this in another environment, sorting on Avg doesn't work. The version on that is Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services Version 9.00.3054.00.
I put together a sample code against the northwinddatabase. Sorting works in 9.00.2047.00 but not 9.00.3054.00. Any ideas??

We will making a change to our Reporting Services deployment next month. We will be moving from our SQL 2000 server to a new SQL 2005 server. In addition, we will moving from a Local Catalog Deployment to a Remote Catalog Deployment. My question is this: Is there a way I can prevent my team from having to manually redeploy our reports in the new system? They have not been diligent about saving the Visual Studio solution or project files, so they will have to pull the most up-to-date RDL's off the server and deploy them on the new server one by one.
I suppose I can install SQL 2000 on the new server first, then move the Reporting Services databases to the new server, then upgrade the server to 2005, but installing 2000 and upgrading to 2005 does not sound like a best practice. I would prefer a clean install of 2005. Does anyone know if I can move the deployed reports from one server to another?

We go to

On the machine but we cannot find any more detailed error messages...
Does anyone have any idea as to whether the messages migh be written somewhere else?

Hello, i have something like this, i want the annoucements (status = 0) to be on top, then topics with (status = 1) below, then the rest of the topics.
So i tried:
SELECT forum_topics.id, forum_topics.status, forum_topics.username AS starter, forum_topics.subject, forum_topics.closed, forum_topics.answerpostid, forum_topics.views, forum_topics.answers, forum_topics.lastanswer, forum_topics.lastanswerid, forum_topics.created AS started, forum_answer.username, forum_answer.answer, forum_answer.created FROM forum_topics LEFT OUTER JOIN forum_answer ON forum_answer.id = forum_topics.lastanswerid WHERE (boardid = @ID OR boardid = 0) ORDER BY (status) ASC, (created) ASC
Problem is that they are not sorted diffrently, when i change the (created) ASC to (created) DESC i get the same result and the rows are not sorted, they only get sorted by status so i have status=0 at the top, then status=1 then the rest. How do i get them to be sorted first by status ASC then by created ASC/DESC?

My question is if there is any known bug with ASP.NET and SQL Server. My sql server have activated the Remote Connections (its working properly on other web page).
Its a problem of the number of connections??
Its a problem ofbad configuration??
Its a IIS problem??

Hi,
I am exporting a table to a fixed width flat file using "Ragged Right" format. Though i specify carriage return for the last column, the text file is not taking it up.
I am doing the following for connection
cmFlatFile.properties("Format").SetValue(cmFlatFile,"RaggedRight")
cmFlatFile.properties("RowDelimiter").SetValue(cmFlatFile,vbCrLf)
and while adding the column i am setting up the width as follows
vColumns = flatFileDestination.InputCollection(0).GetVirutalInput().VirtualInputColumnCollection
For cols = 0 to vColumns.Count -1
Dim col As IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFileColumn90 = ff.Columns.Add()
if cols = vColumns.Count - 1 Then
col.ColumnDelimiter = vbCrLf
end if
cols.ColumnType = "FixedWidth"
cols.Columnwidth = 20
......
Next cols
Still the rows are exported next to each other just like when we use FixedWidth.

Hi,
I have several packages where I set up a SQL Server log provider. The packages are all called from jobs.
However, for some reason, only ONE of the packages is logging to the sysdtslog90 table in my specified database.
All of packages have the identical set up for the logging. Here are my settings under logging:
PROVIDERS AND LOGS:
Name: SSIS Log Provider for SQL Server (box is checked)
Configuration: ServerName.DBName (I use this same connection for all the packages)
DETAILS:
OnError is checked
CONTAINERS:
All items are checked
So what's going on here? I have successfully logged to this table using test cases in BIDS, and as I mentioned, ONE of the packages is actually logging to the table when it's called from the job.
Thanks

We've altered an UPDATE trigger - now it doesn't work properly. When updating a record (via a web application) by clearing the value for a particlar column, we get error:
UPDATE failed because the following SET options have incorrect settings: 'QUOTED_IDENTIFIER'.
Code = 800a0c93
Source = ADODB.Recordset
Description = Operation is not allowed in this context.
What the trigger does is prevent a zero-length string from being inserted into the database, which violates a check constraint, and instead inserts NULL. The web app - whose code we cannot modify - apparently does this. This was working fine, until we altered the trigger to add an additional column for update. Our SQL developer person has left, so us less knowledgable (about SQL) folks are trying to pick up the slack.
trigger code:

Hi guys, I am importing a file using the Bulk Insert command, but the fieldterminator is not working for me.
My data:
“lname, “fname, “addr, “phone, “lang
My command:
BULK INSERT dbo.zGE_RCF_POS_IMPORT FROM 'E:operationsdatafilesGEFTPINGE_RCF_POS_EXPORT.txt'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = '","')
The quote are removed from every field except the first quote in front of lname and the trailing quote behind lang. I tried changing the command to:
BULK INSERT dbo.zGE_RCF_POS_IMPORT FROM 'E:operationsdatafilesGEFTPINGE_RCF_POS_EXPORT.txt'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = '"')
But ran into field conversion problems, I also tried defining two fieldterminators got a syntax error. How can I get the desired results of removing all dbl quotes? Or do I have to write something to follow the Bulk Insert to remove the leading and trailing quotes?
