Reports Exported As Excel Cannot Be Read By Mac Version Of Excel
Jan 31, 2007
I searched the list but did not see anything related.
I cannot open a file directly exported from RS in the Excel format. If I open the file in the Windows version and then close it, no need to even save it, I can then open it with the Mac version of Excel. The file size after closing is about 2K less so the RS program is adding something onto the file that the Mac version does not like. It will crash Excel when trying to open.
I cannot export the report as CSV as it will not correctly import into Excel on the Mac.
Is there a work around for this?
Thanks.

Hello,
I am new to this sql server reporting server technology. I have a requirement like the table header should repeat in all pages of the exported excel's print preview. So I have created the header columns with fixed lenths as same as table's header in the page header of the report. Then only the Header will repeat in all pages of the print preview.
But the problem is when doing like this, many of the columns have been merged together. The report layout is ok. But cant sort the data. It says a message "This operation requires the merged cells to be identically sized."
In some forms i have found the header control's edges need to be sized identically with the tables' columns edges. I did it. But still the columns are merged when exporting.
Please help me out from this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, there,
When I view the report on the web, everything is fine until I exported the report to Excel. Additional column and row without heading appear in the exported Excel report. I have no idea, where do these row and column come from as I don't have these additional row and column in the designer. These additional row and column contain the subtotal.
How do I get rid of these additional row and column?
Thank you.

Hi,
Whenever we export a chart to excel, the quality of the chart becomes very poor (blurred image and font).
The images look crisp when viewing from report manager and the designer.
Has anyone encountered and solved the same problem?

I have one issue left to solve before releasing my drilldown report to production. The report displays fine in report manager; however, when it is exported to excel, the color (Coral) in the last column on the right is bleeding into the next three columns in excel. I have looked at properties, sizing and searched the archives. Anyone have an idea how I can fix this to render properly?

I have the Excel Connection Manager and Source to read the contents from an Excel file. For some reason couple of numeric fields from the Excel worksheet are brought over as nulls even though they have a value of 300 and 150. I am not sure why this is happening. I looked into the format of the fields and they are set to General in Excel, I tried setting them to numeric and that did not help.
All the other content from the excel file is coming thru except for the 2 numeric fields.
I tried to bring the contents from the excel source to a text file in csv format and for some reason the 2 numeric fields came out as blank.
Any inputs on getting this addressed will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Manisha

Hi,
I have exported a report to excel that contains an ntext column. The exported excel file shows "#Error" for the ntext column in some of the rows. If I see the same report in reporting services I don't see any problem. I have checked that this is not any issue with the length of the text. Could you suggest me something on this?
Thanks

Hi everybody,
I'm quite new in Reporting Services and have the following problem:
I created a report which is getting its data from 5 different databases. For every database I made a subreport to get the data. In the preview and on the Reporting Server all the data is displayed find. Now I want to export the report to an Excel sheet which does work. But where the data from the subreports is to be shown it just says that subreports in table-cells has been ignored.
Another problem is that the way the report looks in the preview is fine - on the reporting server the columns are far to wide. I allready marked that the width should be fixed.
Some more information: in the main report some cells are merged. In these merged cells is the data from the subreport to be shown. The subreport displays the data in a table which has exact the same amount of colums (and the same size) the cells in the main report had before merging.
Thanks in advance,
Steph

A space was added as the first character of the contents in the Left, Center and Right section of the Report Header and Footer exported to Excel. Example :
In the RDL, Header values are:
Left = "Product Report" ; Center = "Confidential" ; Right = "Page n of n"
In the exported report to Excel, Header properties (-->File.-->Page Setup--> Header/Footer Tab) are:
Left = " Product Report" ; Center = " Confidential" ; Right = " Page n of n"
Is there a way to eliminate that space character?
Thanks in advance.

I have a report in SSRS2012. It was copied from SSRS2005 quite recently, as we have upgraded. The SQL developer said that it didn't need any code changes, as he had some kind of tool to test code problems between the two versions. The report has a table, with 5 row groups, and one detail row. The table is setup as follows:
Name Sales Costs Profit
Group1
Group2
Group3
Group4
Group5
DetailsRow
When I run this report using the Report Manager website from SSRS2005, and then export to Excel 2013, I get the 6 row groups in Excel, no problem whatsoever. I can drill into each group in Excel, using the group drilldown column on the left hand side. This works the same as the Report Manager website.
If I run the exact same report from the Report Manager website in SSRS2012, the Report Manager result is the same as SSRS2005 - all the row groups are present, and the drilldown works fine. However, the export to Excel has issues with the groups. There are only 3 row groups showing in Excel, along with a column group added for no apparent reason.
Drilling into each group shows inconsistent details, and there is no apparent logic as to what is shown within each group. I should also mention, that this issue with groups is seen on all my reports which have groups, not just this report.

I created a system DSN for an Excel file and I have been using it for awhile. I can read from it as well as update it. (The Excel fileincludes weekly updates to some records.)Then I tried to create the same connection with an explicit connectionstring. It opens the file fine, I can read from it and all. But whenI try to update it, it complains that the database is read-only. I amusing the connection string: "Driver=Microsoft Excel Driver(*.xls);DBQ=excel-fle-path;Uid=;Pwd="Is there a switch to include to say that I would like to open the Excelfile as a read/write database just like via the ODBC set up?

I have a problem, and I'm fairly sure I know what the answer is going to be, but I'll ask it anyhow.
I have a database which I switched over to SQL 2005 last year, and in the process converted all the DTS packages I had to import the data over to SSIS. We have several reports that we generate to Excel files, and I attempted to migrate these over also, but they would never run in production. Worked fine in when I developed the packages, but nothing I did would make them run in production, so I droped back and punted by modifying the DTS packages to point to the new database. Everything works fine that way, but we want to retire the old SQL box.
When I started digging into the problem by running the package from the dev platform on the production box, I got the following error info:
Error: 0xC0202009 at TSC_Outbound_Calls, Connection manager "Excel Connection Manager": An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040154.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components" Hresult: 0x80040154 Description: "Class not registered".
Error: 0xC00291EC at Create Excel Table, Execute SQL Task: Failed to acquire connection "Excel Connection Manager". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
Task failed: Create Excel Table
What I have seen about this error is that it cannot find a 64-bit Excel driver, which (I believe) does not exists. So, as the server is already built with Server 2003 64-bit and SQL 2005 64-bit, does anyone have a suggestion to help me get these exports working again, or am I as stuck as I think I am?

Hi,
I have an excel spreadsheet with several sheets.
These sheets get populated with data from an external source database i.e. a third party application.
I would like to create a SSIS package to read the data in each sheet.
Please note that I do know how to create SSIS package to read an excel file with only one sheet.
Is there a functionality in SSIS to loop though each sheet in one excel file?
Thanks
