Repost: 00000 Display On Upgrade To Windows XP

Jul 20, 2005

I posted this under 'microsoft.public.sqlserver.client' but got no reply.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated
---------------------
I developed a database under SQL Server 2000, with Access 2000 on Windows
2000 as client. This had been running fine for several years. The client is
now upgrading to Windows XP, and has come across a display problem on the
reports. The figures are correct but are now displayed with lots of trailing
zeros e.g

365.00000

I have built a test system but cannot duplicate the problem :-( . Also the
problem varies between computers, and even between different users on the
same computer. One solution that seems to work is to explicitly cast all
output from the server e.g.

CAST ( TonsLoaded AS INT) TonsLoaded

but this is a pita since there are 141 stored procedures.

Has anyone seen this problem? I haven't found anything in the newsgroups or
any Knowlege Base article. It looks like it is to do with Windows XP as the
client ...

How Do I Display/upgrade SQL License Info

May 18, 2006

In SQL 2000 you went to Control Panel and SQL Licensing to view licensing mode and qty. I have searched everywhere for the equivelant in 2005 including books online, knowledge base but can't find anything.

Anybody know where it is hidden as I need to check this server is set up for per processor and check how many processors?

Thanks

Upgrade Windows NT To 200, Effect The SQL 6.5?

Which Comes First: Upgrade Windows Or SQL Server?

May 30, 2007

I've got a box running Windows 2000 Server and SQL Server 2000. This summer I plan on upgrading to Windows 2003 Standard and SQL Server 2005, but which do I do first?

My guess is that I shouldn't mess with upgrading SQL at all. Just dump the data, uninstall, upgrade the OS, install SQL 2005 and reimport the data back in. Is that a really bad idea?

I would think that if I wanted to upgrade both, then Windows should be upgraded first, right?

Data Display In Reports Based On Windows Authentication ID

Aug 30, 2007

Hi Experts,

I have a reporting scenario, where the reports are fetched from Analysis Services.
The reports should display data only spcecific to that user.
All users except those in admin roles should be validated using the Windows Authentication ID and data specific to them has to be displayed.

Any pointers/suggestions on how to implement this in Reporting services/ Analysis Services 2005 would be highly appreciated

Thanks,

Setup And Upgrade :: Windows Authentication Not Working After Password Change?

Apr 29, 2015

This morning I attempted to connect to my local copy of SQL Server (2012) (Win 7) using Windows Authentication. I was unable to do so and per the error log it was due to error 18456 (invalid credentials).

Yesterday I changed my windows password. Is it possible for this to be the cause?

FYI, following is from the error logs:

2015-04-27 10:10:32.98 Backup BACKUP DATABASE successfully processed 0 pages in 0.451 seconds (0.000 MB/sec).2015-04-28 00:00:41.90 spid18s This instance of SQL Server has been using a process ID of 2096 since 4/21/2015 9:08:05 AM (local) 4/21/2015 1:08:05 PM (UTC). This is an informational message only; no user action is required.2015-04-28 09:58:51.16 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 38.2015-04-28 09:58:51.16 Logon Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'model'. [CLIENT: xx.xx.xxx.xxx]2015-04-28 17:09:59.87 Server  SQL Server is terminating because of a system shutdown. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.

The logs showed the error occurred yesterday (4/28) which is about when I changed my password. The 17:09 log (last one) is when I shut down my computer.  Note that I was logged into SQL Server when I changed my Windows password and worked with it several times through out the day.

Also, per the configuration manager SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) (and all other services) is stopped and I was unable to start it ("The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion).

CD -- RePost

Aug 4, 2006

I posted the following back in May and received the reply below.

I asked again in July, but got no response so I assume that wasn't the way to handle it ...

So -- here is the RePost & Reply.

Question is still open: Is the CD ready yet ?/

Roger

===========================================

Can I get: SQL Express with Advanced Services on a CD (or DVD)

I'm on DialUp so a download would take 24hr+.

I was able to get the MS .NET Framework 2.0 on DVD because an MVP took pity on me and was kind enough to give me the "Secret" URL to the correct Order Desk.

I'm hoping one of you knows the URL for this CD/DVD

Roger

=========================================

Hi Roger,

We're working on CD images for SQL Server Express with Advanced Services in all the languages that SQL Server usually ships in. The English version is in final testing and should be available in a couple of weeks.

Thanks

Integration Services :: Cannot Edit Package In Data Tools After Upgrade To Windows 10

Aug 24, 2015

I "upgraded" to Windows 10 (I was installing a new c: drive anyway).  I installed SQL Server & SSIS, Visual Studio 2012, SQL Server Data Tools 2012, etc. When I try to load up my project (.sln) in SQL Data Tools I get the following warnings/errors:

Warning 1
Warning loading DataImport.dtproj: Warning: Failed to decrypt an encrypted XML node. Verify that the project was created by the same user. Project load will attempt to continue without the encrypted information.

Warning 2
Warning loading DataImport.dtproj: Warning: Failed to decrypt sensitive data in project with a user key. You may not be the user who encrypted this project, or you are not using the same machine that was used to save the project. If the sensitive
data is a parameter value, the value may be required to run the package on the Integration Services server.

Error 3
Error loading ImportFiles.dtsx: The version number in the package is not valid. The version number cannot be greater than current version number.

Error 4
Error loading ImportFiles.dtsx: Package migration from version 8 to version 6 failed with error 0xC001700A "The version number in the package is not valid. The version number cannot be greater than current version number.".

Error 5
Error loading ImportFiles.dtsx: Error loading value "<DTS:Property xmlns:DTS="www.microsoft.com/SqlServer/Dts" DTS:Name="PackageFormatVersion">8</DTS:Property>" from node "DTS:Property".

Error 6
Error loading 'ImportFiles.dtsx' : The package failed to load due to error 0xC0010014 "One or more error occurred. There should be more specific errors preceding this one that explains the details of the errors. This message is used as a return
value from functions that encounter errors.". This occurs when CPackage::LoadFromXML fails.

As well as installing Windows 10, I had also renamed by computer.  I have tried renaming it back (I noticed some references to the computer name in the xml), but no difference.Have I installed the wrong versions of one of the software?  If so, how could I check which one I need to install (to match the VS project/dts package)?

T-SQL XML Experience??? (repost)

Nov 14, 2007

Hi all,
I have posted a thread on the XML forum but its not getting much traction there so I'm posting a link to it from here hoping that more people will pick it up. Hope that's OK.

I have a problem with a T-SQL query involving XML that is taking FAR too long to run.

Repost Along With DDL's And Sample Data.

Mar 6, 2007

Here’s a more in depth breakdown of my problem:

We have 4 regions, currently we only have 3 servers in the field, and therefore only 3 regional id’s are being used to store the actual data of the pbx. The central server (RegionalID = 0) is holding the data for itself and the 4th region until the new server is deployed.
It now has to be deployed and therefore the data migration for this region has to take place.
I am trying to extract all the data for this 4th region (RegionalID= 1) from the central server database from all the relevant tables.
When doing this I will firstly, have to check that the CallerID is valid, if it is, send that entry along with the result set, if it is not valid, Check that the dongle area code is valid, if dongle area is valid select with the result set, and if it is not valid, then check that RegionalDialup = ‘0800003554’ which is the dialup number for this 4th region (RegionalID = 1).

I have a table named lnkPBXUser which contains the following:

if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[lnkPBXUser]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') = 1)
drop table [dbo].[lnkPBXUser]
GO

DDL:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[lnkPBXUser] (
[RegionalID] [int] NOT NULL ,
[pbxID] [decimal](18, 0) NOT NULL ,
[userID] [decimal](18, 0) NOT NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO

Sample data:
INSERT INTO lnkPBXUser(RegionalID, pbxID, userID)
SELECT 0, 543, 2 UNION ALL
SELECT 0, 10961, 6 UNION ALL
SELECT 0, 1012, 17 UNION ALL
SELECT 0, 16499, 26 UNION ALL
SELECT 0, 14061, 36 UNION ALL
SELECT 0, 16499, 2

I have a table named tblDialupLog which has 20 columns, I have selected only the columns I am interested in (below):

PBXID DailupDT DongleAccessNum CLI RegionalID RegionalDialup
83 8/8/2006 8:58:11 AM T2 UQ 28924 0132493700 0 0800003554

Sample data:
INSERT INTO tblDialupLog(PBXID,DailupDT ,DongleAccessNum,CLI,RegionalID,RegionalDialup )
SELECT 83,'8/8/2006 8:58:11 AM' ,'T2 UQ 28924','0132493700',0 , '0800003554' UNION ALL

You see that the DongleAccessNumber is actually made up of three parts, and it is the middle part (ie.UQ) which i will use to check that the tbldongleArea.DongleAreaCode is valid for that region

I have a table named tblCodes, it contains all regions but I only need to select the codes for RegionalID 1 :

CodeID RegionalID ExtName SubsNDCD LocCD UpdateStatus RegionDesc
7973 1 PRETORIA 012 362 0 NORTH EASTERN REGION
7974 1 HARTEBEESHOEK 012 3012 0 NORTH EASTERN REGION

7976 1 PRETORIA 017 3014 0 NORTH EASTERN REGION
7977 1 PRETORIA 012 3015 0 NORTH EASTERN REGION

DDL:
if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[tblCodes]') and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') = 1)
drop table [dbo].[tblCodes]
GO

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblCodes] (

Ok, I am dealing with the lnkPBXUser table at the moment,

I need to be able to join lnkPBXUser and tblDialupLog, then compare tblDialupLog.CLI to tblCodes.SubsNDCD + tblCodes.LocCD (when these two columns are concatenated the result will only be a substring of tblDialupLog.CLI. (this is to make sure that the CLI exists in tblCodes.)

If it does exist, then it is part of the fourth region and should be returned in the result set.

If it does not exist, I then need to check that tblDongle.DongleAreaCode is a substring of tblDialupLog.DongleAccessNumber.

If it is a valid DongleAreaCode for that region, then it is part of the fourth region and should be returned in the result set.

If it does not exist, I then need to check that tblDialupLog.RegionalNumber = ‘080003554’.

So from the above tables an expected result would be:

RegionalID pbxID userID
0 1012 17
0 543 2

Please assist, it would be greatly appreciated.

REPOST: New SQL Server Registration Failure

Feb 23, 2004

Hi,

I have 3 SQL Servers running here. Here are their configurations:

SERVER 1:
OS: Windows 2000 SP 4
SQL: SQL Server 2000 SP 4

SERVER 2:
OS: Windows 2000 SP 4
SQL: SQL Server 2000 SP 4

SERVER 3:
OS: Windows XP Professionnal
SQL: SQL Server 2000 SP 3

Now, as you can see, SERVER 1 and SERVER 2 have identical configurations. Plus, both will accept Windows Authentication and SQL Authentication.

If I try to add a new Registration from SERVER 3 to SERVER 1, it works fine but from SERVER 3 to SERVER 2 it doesn't. I always get an error (SQL Server does not exist or access denied). But, using the exact same user name and password, a connection can be established from SERVER 1 to SERVER 2 and vice-versa. Only when trying to connect froms SERVER 3 to SERVER 2 fails.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Skip.

Repost: DTS -- Insert Into Oracle Is SLOW. Any Tips?

Dec 16, 2001

Originally posted by Jeremy at 12/10/2001 11:39:38 AM

Hello all,

I've written a simple dts job that uses oracle (8.x) as a source and oracle (8.x) as a destination. I'm using SQL 2000 and Microsoft's oledb provider for oracle as the two connections. I've chosen "Transform Data Task" with the following SQL "SELECT * FROM REPORTER_STATUS
WHERE LASTOCCURRENCE > TRUNC(SYSDATE)". As you can see, it's very simple, however it's very very very slow. (averages about 1000 rows per minute). In my column transformations, I've selected many to many versus the one to one. There are no activex scripts or anything along those lines. Just a simple push of the data from one oracle box to the other. The table schemas are identical etc... I've had this problem before with writing to Oracle and I can't imagine that it's really supposed to be this slow. If you need more details, please just let me know.

Thank you,

Jeremy

-----------------------------More -------------------------------

The official response from microsoft is that dts only allows for single inserts... not bulk or bcp for oracle. There must be someone out there who has figured out how to configure / modify / call (something) from a dts pacakage to insert millions of records into Oracle in a decent time frame...

thnx again..

Truncate All Raw Files In A Given Folder (Repost As Requested)

Mar 30, 2007

I am looking for a way to truncate raw files without losing the metadata. The metadata of the raw file should be automatically detected at run-time. The result will be a raw file with the same metadata as the original file, but no data in it.

There are two reasons I would like such a tool. First, I want to erase the potentially sensitive data stored in the raw files. Second, I want to keep Validation enabled so that development is simpler.

Is anyone aware of such a tool?

Thanks,

Repost!: Extract Data Meeting Specific Criteria.

Mar 5, 2007

Here’s a more in depth breakdown of my problem:

We have 4 regions, currently we only have 3 servers in the field, and therefore only 3 regional id’s are being used to store the actual data of the pbx. The central server (RegionalID = 0) is holding the data for itself and the 4th region until the new server is deployed.
It now has to be deployed and therefore the data migration for this region has to take place.
I am trying to extract all the data for this 4th region (RegionalID= 1) from the central server database from all the relevant tables.
When doing this I will firstly, have to check that the CallerID is valid, if it is not valid, then check that RegionalDialup = ‘0800003554’ which is the dialup number for this 4th region (RegionalID = 1).

I have a table named lnkPBXUser which contains the following:

RegionalID pbxID userID
0 1012 17
0 543 2
0 10961 6
0 16499 26

0 15882 2
4 15101 6
4 15101 26
6 16499 2
6 16012 26

I have a table named tblDialupLog which has 20 columns, I have selected only the columns I am interested in (below):

Upgrade Advisor Post-upgrade

Dec 6, 2006

Greetings,

I have a client whose DBA upgraded their SQL 2000 database to SQL 2005. They still have it running in 8.0 compatibility mode, for various reasons, and would like me to help them develop a migration strategy to get them to full 9.0 compatibility.

My question is: can I run the Upgrade Advisor on a SQL 2005 engine database running in 8.0 compatibility mode and get anything useful? I already know there will be some issues with existing DTS packages but it would be nice to catch any other issues in advance.

I know that the Upgrade Advisor was run before the upgrade took place but to my knowledge the report was not saved and none of the recommendations were followed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Lon

Package Execution Fails In Windows Service But Runs Fine As A Windows Application.

Jun 23, 2006

I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.

The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.

Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."

The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)

Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"

pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)

Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables

vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath

pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

How To Open SDF File Stored On Windows Mobile Device From A Windows Desktop App?

Apr 14, 2008

Long story short -

Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.

Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)

What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?

Thanks for reading.

Connection Problem To Sql 2000 On Windows 2003 From Windows 95

Jul 20, 2005

Hi all,I have a Windows 2003 server, which is also a terminal server forapplication, with sql 2000 installed. My company has developed anapplication that uses SQL 2000 as its database. The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. The log of the application shows thefollowing error:connection error -2147467259. Cannot open database requested in login'database name'. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. By the way W95clients have no problem accessing shared folder on the Windows 2003server.Any idea?ThanksMarino

Windows 98 Vs Windows 2000

May 25, 2001

We just moved the back end of an Access db to an SQL server and upgraded to Access 2000. A strange problem has arisen. The execution of a query in a certain function seems to be causing the function to prematurely terminate (that is, the query does not complete, and the function does not execute beyond the execution of the query). This error occurs only on workstations loaded with Windows 98. Windows 2000 users are unaffected, and the function runs uninterrupted. The query in question contains date parameters. On the SQL server, dates are enclosed in single quotes (')'s, whereas in Access they are enclosed in pound signs (#)'s. When a query is sent by Access to the SQL server, it is filtered through a program that converts the Access format to SQL-friendly code. Our theory is that this process fails to occur on the machines running Windows 98. Does anyone know why this is occuring?
