Resetting Stats For Performance Dashboard

May 13, 2007

I have installed the reports for the performance dashboard and really like it!

However, I'd like to be able to clear the stats in order to run specific procedures etc and see the most inefficient parts in the specific procedure. The documentation says like this about it:

The lifetime of the DMV data depends on the lifetime of the plan in cache. You can determine how long the plan has been cached, and thus the time frame over which these resources have been consumed, by looking at the Plan Cached column

What Plan Cashed column? Can someone explain to me how to clear the stats?

Resetting DMV Stats

Feb 1, 2008

Hello all-
Is it possible to reset the values of DMV stats/counters without restarting the SQL service? I'm looking for something more than dbcc freeproccache...more along the lines of index_usage and some of the OS DMVs.

Cheers,

SQL 2005 Performance And Update Stats

Nov 6, 2007

Recently we moved few of our databases from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 (SP 2) using backup and restore. After the restore I did Reindex and update stats on the databases. Since then we have observed performance issues on SQL 2005 databases but this performance problem vanishes the moment we run (sp_updatestats). Is this a problem with SQL 2005 that we have to run sp_updatestats 2 times a days or 3 times a day. In SQL 2000 we ran it only Once a week and still we never had any performance issues. Is there any config change we need to do to fix this problem in SQL 2005?

Thanks !

Reporting Dashboard

Jun 7, 2007

Hi ,

I want to build a reporting dashboard. Can anyone guide me to books/docs/articles of how to build up a report dashboard using sql 2005 reporting services.

I am not planning to use those real jazzy reports. Just some simple charts, bar graphs and statistics shown. The client wants a simple but a professional looking UI.

Can anyone guide me..

Thanks.

Interactive Dashboard With Subreports

Sep 14, 2007

I am trying to create a dashboard that is split into the five main focus areas of Customer, Finance, Management, People and Innovation. Each focus area has a main report and a series of subreports (within a panel). I use the €˜Jump to report:€™ property at the domain level €“ which works well.

My problems arise when dealing with the subreports. For example, in the €˜People€™ focus area €“ the panel contains 4 subreports covering; contractor vs. fte trends, gender balance trends, compliance trends and investment trends.

Ideally I would like to have four €˜tabs€™ which when clicked would show the relevant subreport. I know this can be done via a full report refresh, but it looks clumsy and is more complex and costly to maintain.

I am happy for any method that might change the €˜Subreport€™ property dynamically or set the visibility of the objects. I want to avoid using the toggle capability as this could result in two or more subreports conflicting and being visible at the same time.

Digital Dashboard Question

Dec 28, 2006

I€™m not sure if this is the right topic for this particular forum but here goes anyway€¦

Okay, admittedly, I am not really familiar with MS SQL Server (I€™m Oracle, actually) but I am investigating a possible implementation on a relatively small scale. I am sure that MS SQL Server will handle all the database functions I need and will leave plenty of room for future growth. That really isn€™t the issue. What I am trying to figure out is how the Digital Dashboard I€™ve read about works. Of particular concern is the apparent connection between the Dashboard and Share Point. My first question is this: Is Share Point required to use the Digital Dashboard?

My next question is actually a bit easier€¦ Is there a sample site I can access that shows some of the capabilities of a Digital Dashboard implementation? I€™d like to make sure that the kinds of displays I am trying to build are actually available using this feature€¦

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Using RS Reports In A Custom Dashboard

Jun 22, 2007

We have several reporting services reports that have been formatted specifically for dashboards displays, ie. with charts, kpis, tables, etc.

Currently I am using MOSS 2007 dashboards to display these reports on a large flat-screen display in our area, but only using a Web Page webpart to display. Because these reports contain a lot of information, it is more ideal to show a single report at a time, and after a few seconds display a second report, etc, similar to a powerpoint slide show.

My question is, how can this be accomplished? Can the Reporting Services web parts do this? Can a custom web page be built to flip between different reports on a timed interval dynamically? Can transition effects (fade, wipe, etc) be used between report views?

The important point here is that the dashboard/reports are displayed on a central monitor, so these dashboards are not designed to be interactive (i.e. people viewing, changing, filtering, printing, etc.) - only viewing in a browser.

Thanks!

I know SSRS supports Hyperion system 9BI+ but not sure about the backward compatibility.I would greatly appreciate if GURUS could shed some light into this.

Hi I have installed Sql 2005 Express with Advanced Services Edition.

I can't find the server dashboard that comes with the full Sql 2005 version.

Should I have installed the Toolkit version instead or have I missed off features on this install or does it not come with Server dashboard.

Building A Report-dashboard In WSS 3.0 Integrated Mode

Dec 7, 2006

I have a page with three Web parts;

1. Filter Web Part that uses a BDC-driven list of clients

2. Part showing RDL's from a doclib

3. Report viewer Web Part

I can use the Filter part to supply a parameter value to 3. when I select an RDL manually, I can set the Viewer connections to get the Report Definition from 2. But I can't get both options to work at the same time. The reports in 2. all have the same Parameter so there shouldn't really be a problem.

Looking forward to any suggestions or a way to provide feedback on the CTP (RS SharePoint Addin).

TIA.

Adhoc DashBoard In SQL Server Reporting Service 2005

Mar 3, 2008

Hi Gurus,
We are planning to user SQL server 2005 reporting services in our project, for this we are doing a Proof of concept exercise to evaluate if SSRS 2005 will be good for our project.
For this we are trying if we can make dashboard or composite reports (combine 4-5 reports to create one report).
Also if we can make this dashboard ad-hoc. As we are already using the Ad-Hoc reporting capability of SSRS 2005 we wanted to check if dashboards can also be created using Ad-hoc reporting feature.

Please let me know if you any information or pointers for this.

Thanks in Advance.

How would I go about getting rid of all the old tables, even ones whose names I've forgotten, so I can have a clean slate again? (btw I don't have sql server, just the desktop engine)

Resetting Identity Value

May 2, 2008

I am trying to reset an IDENTITY RowNumber
back to 1 in a query when the Person's Name is the same. The following query
can be used agains the pubs database in SQL Server.

I am trying to figure out where to place the section for the DBCC CHECKIDENT item in order to reset the RowNumber back to 1 when ever the lname column is the same. For example if the pub database had duplicate records for a given employee the RowNumber would reset back to 1.

CREATE TABLE #RowNumber (
RowNumber int IDENTITY (1, 1),
emp_id char(9) )
--DECLARE @seed int
--SET @seed = 1
--DBCC CHECKIDENT ('#RowNumber', RESEED , @seed) WITH NO_INFOMSGS

INSERT #RowNumber (emp_id)
SELECT emp_id
FROM employee
ORDER BY lname
SELECT RowNumber, e.emp_id, lname, fname, job_id
FROM #RowNumber r JOIN employee e
ON r.emp_id = e.emp_id

ORDER BY RowNumber
DROP TABLE #RowNumber

Resetting SA Password

Aug 23, 2007

Hello all.

This is the best suited forum I found for my problem, if there's a better suited one please direct me.

I am running SQL Server 7.0 on Windows 2000 Server, and the SA's password has been forgotten and no other employee knows it.
I searched the net for a solution, and I found various pages describing how to reset the SA's password by logging in an administrator, connecting to the server and using a sp_password command.

For some reason, I cannot connect to the server even when I'm logged on as administrator.
Here are the steps I took:

1) I logged in as DOMAINAdministrator at my domain controller.
2) I opened Enterprise Manager and clicked on the server labeled "(LOCAL)". The server is registered to use "Windows NT authentication".
3) Received the following error:"A connection could not be established to (LOCAL) - Login failed for user 'DOMAINAdministrator'.. Please verify that SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties ... and try again". If there was an option to attach a screenshot, I would, but...
4) I have verified that SQL Server is running.

As I am new to SQL Server, I'm not sure about this, but the SQL Server is called SERVERNET, and the domain I'm logged into is called DOMAIN.
Should I login as an administrator to SERVERNET and not to DOMAIN? Is that possible? "SERVERNET" does not show on the login screen, only "DOMAIN" is listed there.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

The other solutions in SQL 2005 that use ALTER TABLE and ALTER COLUMN just don't work, I don't no Why.

Resetting Identity Values Of PKs

Sep 21, 2000

What is the easiest way in T-SQL to reset the identity values of
the PK columns in a DB. Here's the scenario.

I'm going to be backing up a HUGE DB and then restoring
it to a new server. Once there I will run an SP to remove all the existing
data. The tables are now row-free. However my customer doesn't like that
the first record they add gets PK value of 5,321, or whatever.

After I remove all the data how can I reset the ids?
It would be nice to add some code to my sp_cleardb
that would go back and reset the identity columns
FYI
All of my tables use auto-incrementing identity fields with a seed of 1

1) I know how to do it in enterprise manager, but I need it in scripting
since I'll have to do it on hundreds of tables
2) I tried using alter table to drop the PK constraint, but that requires
knowing the pk constraint name, which is SQL generated and I won't know.

I think I got very close, but the code was just getting too big. I thought,
there must be an easier function to use, or a built in SP, or something?

Anyone know how to script this?
THanks in advance.
Josh

Stripping And Resetting Security

May 29, 2008

Question - if you had to completely strip all permissions from all databases in an instance and reset them, assuming you have metadata to support rebuilding the permissions, what steps would you follow? I can handle the iterating through each database, but at the database level, what steps would you take?

The reason I inquire on this is I currently have a job that I inherited that does just this. But it's buggy and was also written in for SQL Server 2000. With some of the changes in 2005, a few bugs have crept in, etc. And I would like to confirm my thoughts this. Or, if your opinion is why are you wasting your time on this? Then that's fine to and I'll review any constructive comments you may have.
