Restore Database From SQL Server 2000 To SQl Server 2005

I have a file backup database SQL Server 2000
I want to restore it to SQL Server 2005.
But it failed.
I try :
Database ( right-click) - Restore Database - From Device - Specify Backup Add
Locate Backup File. I must choose File of Type is All File so that i can find file backup from SQL 2000, if i choose File of Type is *.bak,*.trn so i cannot find that file.
And then i choose OK all. But it failed. The error is below :

Hi All I have Computer is setuped SQL Server 2000 and SQL server 2005 when I restore SQL Server 2005 it's OK but when it's not OK when I restore in SQL Server 2000. The Error as follows:
This is a very urgent requirement of my client having 200 stores and one Head office. the HO has just installed SQL-Server 2005, The HO sends small backups of the data related to stock transfer which needs to be restored at stores. It was working find when both the HO and stores were SQL-Server 2000. but the process has come to a dead halt as the HO has SQL-Server 2005. It is not possible to convert the stores immediately. please help me out.
I am maintaining a .net 1.0 asp.net web application that accesses a SQL server 2000 database. I need to backup the database and then restore it on a laptop. Currently it resides on a server. The problem is that on the server they are using sql server 2005. If I backup using 2005 and then try and restore this database using SQL server 2000 or 2005 on the laptop, I get an error message. "Too many backup devices specified for backup or restore; only 64 are allowed. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. What can I do to restore the database? Must it be backed up with SQL server 2000 and then restored with SQL Server 2005? Please help!
Hi Friends,I have installed SQL server 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server managementI have a SQL server 2000 db backup file. I try create a new database in my SQL server 2005 express Edition and try restore that backup file from device, it only searching for file with *.bak and *.tm extension! I tried generate backup file with .bak extension and tried restore into SQl server 2005 express edition but still it is not allowing to do so! I also tried copy my database's data file and log file and paste it under SQL server 2005 express edition Data folder and still not able to read the tables.Is that any ways to do restoring for this SQL server 2000 backup file into SQL server 2005 express edition! May Any one guide me? I have a backup file of database which is in SQL Server 2000. it has no Extension.I want to restore this backupfile or this database in my SQL Server 2005. I have tried to Attach Database or attach this backup file in Sql Server2005 but it also fails . First I have created New database name as is on the backupfile and then I have also tried to rename this file with .bak extension and then try to restore again it fails. I was running Small Business Server 2003 with MS SQL Server 2000. I put backups of all my SQL Server 2000 databases on hard disk d: and the operating system and applications on c:/. I then reformatted c:/ (but left d:/ intact) and installed Windows XP Home. Then I installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition.
I would like to now restore the backups of the SQL Server 2000 databases (still intact on drive d:/) to SQL Server 2005, but I get a variety of error messages.
I suspect that I am going about this the wrong way. I have done several hours of research in the documentation without success. I cannot attach the SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 because it is a backup, not a database. I cannot migrate the databases as part of the installation of SQL Server 2005 because (a) they are back-ups, and (b) I don't have SQL Server 2000 installed when I install SQL Server 2005.
I have a database backup from Server Express 2005 that I want to restore to SQL Server 2000. I keep getting an error message saying it was created a newer version and wont work. Is there a workaround to this.

I have never done this in a DR scenario before. What I used to do in SQL Server 2000 was apply the logins to a new installation of SQL 2000 then recover the application databases. I'm using 2005 now and I'm in a different mode where I would like to be able to recover the system (master, model, msdb) to a different server with the same SQL Server 2005 build ---- 9.0.3054. I'm following the procedures from Microsoft where they state to place the instance in single user mode first then invoke SQLCMD then perform the restore. Sounds simple enough. C:> SQLCMD > RESTORE DATABASE MASTER from DISK = 'Z:MINIDRmaster_backup_200804200315.bak'
The console is coming back with a message that the backup set holds a backup other than the existing master database. So I suppose that this cannot be done and is only intended for recovery on the same instance.
Hello, I have two servers (both of them with sqlserver2005) : SERVER3 with the Database: ReportServer$SQLSERVER2005TFSTempDB and SERVER5 with the Dabase: ReportServerTempDB.
I''ve got a backup of the database in SERVER3, and I want to restore it in the database of SERVER5. As you see, they have different names(I don't know if this is a problem....)
So I try doing the following:

My customer has SQL Server 2005. I have SQL Server 2000 on my laptop (on XP Pro). I believe I have an empty database the same as theirs, but I need to restore their data. They sent me a normal SQL Backup, but my laptop threw a fit and cannot work with it.
They are now trying to export the database to Microsoft Access and send me that, but I won't get that until next week now. However is there a better and easier solution for those of us with insufficient experience of this, please?
When I try to migrate a database on a SQL Server 2000 server to a SQL Server 2005 server with the Copy Database Wizard of the SQL Server Management Studio, I'm confronted with the following problem;

I already enabled the MSSQLSERVER network configuration protocols (TCP/IP and Named Pipes ).
I had a database in sql server 2005 under instance name 'rohitcvman'. I took its backup. The computer is formatted and sql server 2005 is installed again with instance name 'rtamrakarcvmanager'. When I try to restore it, it ends up with the following message (copied from message box).

I have not tried to restore/attach in the same instance name from which it was backed up. Is it compulsory to have same instance name to attach/restore?
I am using SQL server 2005 9.00.3042 . When I go to databases restore, restore to Northwind, from device I select backup device and select SDLT. The actual backup device is LTO3. The error is an exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement of batch

Is there a way to grant rights to a user to be able to restore a specific database on a server, without being able to muck around with other databases on the server?

I am using sql server 2005 and unable to restore backup file(.bak) file when i ry to restore it to other database it shows following error

I'm trying to see the differences between Backup/Restore and Attach/Detach. I backup and detach a database from SQL Server 2000 SP3 and then attach and restore it to SQL Server 2005 SP1.
The differences I noticed are:
1. The restored database has a much larger initial size (database size is same) for data and log. 2. The attached database has a last backup date 3. If the backup is restored over a database, the restored database is showing owned by the database owner of the database restored over but syslogins and sysusers do not match.
I don't understand why #1 happens.
Are there any other differences between Backup/Restore and Attach/Detach?
I have a database called 'DB1' in SQL Server 2000. I want to create the same database in SQL Server 2005 Express including the original data in tables. How would I do that? I cannot find any option to do this upgrade in SQL Server Management Studio.
We have experienced an issue with back backup / restore of a database originating from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2003.
We have the following setup:
SQL Server 2000
- DatabaseA
- asdfUser (SQL User)
- asdfUser is (dbowner) of DatabaseA
- DatabaseB
- asdfUser (SQL User)
- asdfUser is (dbowner) of DatabaseB
SQL Server 2005 Standard
-asdfUser is NOT Setup as a user yet.
-We restore DatabaseA and DatabaseB to the SQL Server 2005 Standard. The databases are restored with the security permissions of asdfUser being the DB Owner of DatabaseA and DatabaseB.
-We create a new SQL user named asdfUser on the SQL Server 2005 box. We then try to add the UserMapping of DBOWNER for the DatabaseA and DatabaseB. We receive an error message stating that the asdfUser already have permissions to the databases. We proceed with the user creation without those permissions.
-We proceed to the login properties of the asdfuser and view their UserMappings. The asdfUser does not have access to DatabaseA or DatabaseB. We then add the UserMapping of DBOWNER to both DatabaseA and DatabaseB. We Try to select OK and we receive an error message that states that the user already has those permissions.
-When we query the UserID's of the asdfUser that is in the database and the UserID of the asdfUser that is created, they are two different values.

Yesterday I received a response to my CI/CS Collation problem and therecommendation was to try and restore a CI Collation database to a CSCollation database. After creating a blank CS database a full restore(Force restore over existing database) does change the Collation toCI. I'm unsure as to how I can restore without changing theCollation. I have a database created in server 2000, and now I have moved it to server 2005.
All works do fine, but there is a user which cannot be removed.
In the user properties window, the assigned schema is empty. The user is a db_owner of the database. When I was trying to update the user, it asked me for the login. The login is empty, but the field is disabled.
In my application,I used Sql Server 2000 Database where I used some Stored Procedures,View,Function and Triggers .Now I want to migrate it to Sql Server 2005. Is there any performance issues will come in future as the database is actually from SQL SERVER 2000? Is all these Stored procedures,Views,Function and Triggers will work perfect? If than what steps I have to take to over come them.
I have right now sql server 2000 instance installed on a server (serverone) which is accessed on all nodes through an ODBC connection.
Now we have upgraded our server to windows server 2005 which will be on other machine servertwo. I have right now installed sql server 2005 in servertwo. Wish to copy the database from serverone to servertwo. Once it is copied and everything is working fine. I want to uninstal sql server 2000 from serverone.
What is the best way to do this? I am trying different things like tried running code Advisor on serverone which is not recognising the sql server 2005 instance of servertwo. It's giving message as since the sql server is installed on default settings it can't be accessed remotely. I see that SQL server 2000 database is accessible on all nodes including servertwo. Why is it that servertwo sql server is no where accessible?
