Restore Database Stuck On (Loading)
Dec 22, 2004
I recently installed MSDE on a laptop. I then restored several databases from backup files without problem. However, one database is constantly stuck at the grey colour displaying the (Loading) message.
Why won't this database restore ? It is of course the most important database and I only have the one backup file.
This only appears to fail on his server. Do I need to uninstall MSDE and start over ?

HiI am trying to copy a 20 GB database from server 1 to 2. I took a fullbackup, copied to server2 and restored ( ready for use) using EM.After the message restore completed, I see the database's status as LOADING.We are on Sql Server 2000 (8.00.818) on Windows 2000 Adv Servers.I ran dbcc on the source DB and it returned no errors. I tried the command'restore db with recovery ' which didnot help. I get an message saying thatthe data file is only partially restored.. It seems the last resort is tochange the status in system tables.Any ideas?ThanksRagu

I had to restore a database late this afternoon. I have the database set to FULL recovery. Database backups are performed nightly and transaction log backups are performed every other hour. I decided to perform a point-in-time restore. When I restored this way everything seems to go ok and it finishes. Then the database is grayed and says "Loading". Although I tried 4 separate times, one time allowing over an hour, the grayed out database and "Loading" never goes away.
Freaking out I deleted the "Loading" database (didn't delete logs and backup files) and tried a manual restore from the previous night's backup file. It attached and restored properly and was ready to go in 2 minutes.
Of course I wanted to get the transaction log files restored too, since it had work from earlier today. So I tried another restore via point-in-time and got the same old messages. Currently, the database is running with the previous night's backup restored but the users aren't too keen on having to do 5 hours worth of work to catch up to the previous transaction log backup come Monday morning.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
JB

I can run this example from SQL Book Online from sql query analyzer. I can build the TestDB database.
BACKUP DATABASE Northwind
TO DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak'
RESTORE FILELISTONLY
FROM DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak'
RESTORE DATABASE TestDB
FROM DISK = 'c:Northwind.bak'
WITH MOVE 'Northwind' TO 'c: est estdb.mdf',
MOVE 'Northwind_log' TO 'c: est estdb.ldf'
GO
But... When I build stored procedure and call it through VB6. I've got the gray database symbol along with message TestDB (Loading/Suspecting)
Why I cannot run these commands through VB6

Hi there,
I'm new to this forum but was wondering if you could advise me on getting the DB back to an accessible state. I tried restoring the DB but unfortunately I don't have enough disk space. The error message appeared instantly informing me of the lack of disk space. Now it says its in (Loading state) and I cannot access the DB. Is there anyway I can manually change it back??

I have a DB, MDF is about 170GB, log 200GB. When I do a restore of it, the backup takes about 20 minutes to get to 100% but then it just stays there in Restoring Mode.
I have specified the WITH RECOVERY option.
What is happening that it doesn't commit the backup for some reason?

I performed a database restore this morning from a backup that I had
created yesterday - the database was backed up to a file, not a backup
device.
After the restore completed, the database was left in a LOADING status. I
checked the log and it stated 'Bypassing recovery for database X because
it is marked in load. I used the enterprise tools (all tasks/restore
database) to do the restore.
I asked one of our senior dba's for help, and he followed the same process
I did and it worked fine for him.
Any idea why my database was left in a loading status? The database was
fine prior to the restore.

I have a database that got set into single user mode. Unsure the reason or who might opened it. I am trying to reset it, but I am having problems. I am trying the following from http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/alter-single-user-multi-user-mode.aspx to kill the connections. So I can then switch it back to multiple users.
DECLARE @DatabaseName nvarchar(50)DECLARE @SPId intSET @DatabaseName = N'Works'DECLARE my_cursor CURSOR FAST_FORWARD FOR SELECT SPId FROM MASTER..SysProcesses WHERE DBId = DB_ID(@DatabaseName) AND SPId <> @@SPIdOPEN my_cursor FETCH NEXT FROM my_cursor INTO @SPIdWHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0BEGINKILL @SPIdFETCH NEXT FROM my_cursor INTO @SPIdENDCLOSE my_cursor DEALLOCATE my_cursor
Which gives me the following error message when ran.
Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 13
Line 13: Incorrect syntax near '@SPId'.

The last time I saved my Visual C# project, everything was functionning perfectly. Now, when I open my project, I have this warning on every one of my inherited forms. When I run the project, everything works fine. I've looked around for similar problems, but never found the solution that truly fits for me. Any suggestions?

I have a SQL cluster which ran out of disk the other day. I threw plenty more disk at the SAN. However, 1 of the databases came back with Recovery Pending and has been over 24 hours. I have tried to backup the database with no success. I don't have a clean backup from the day it occured so would have a good amount of work missing.
Running a dbcc check returns the following:
Msg 945, Level 14, State 2, Line 1
Database 'sqldb' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details.
I have not tried a dbcc check with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS as there seems to be a high risk of losing whatever was going on. how I can get the db back online?

We had to failover our primary db server for maintenance to our secondary replica. The primary was rebooted during maintenance. We failed back after the maintenance and one of the databases is not synchronizing.
I checked sys.dm_hadr_database_replica_states, and it is showing that it is INITIALIZING.
It has been in this state for more than 45 mins now. The last_sent_time, last_received_time, last_hardened_time and last-redone_time are all stuck with a time stamp 45 mins ago.
They haven't changed. How do i resume this database and bring it back in sync?
I tried suspending and resuming the data movement, but hasn't worked.

1. Is it possible and what would be the gotchas for taking a backup of a database in a 32 bit instance of sql server 2000 and loading it into a 64 bit instance of 2000? How about 2005 to 2005?
2. Is it possible to reverse that and go from a 64 bit to a 32 bit?
3. How about going from a 32 bit sql server 2000 into a 64 bit sql server 2005?
We're on the verge of upgrading a rather large database from sqlserver 2000 (32 bit) into 2005 (32 bit) but they anticipate eventually upgrading the hardware to 64 bit at least for production. The test node would remain at 32 bit.
Thanks for any help.

I have just restored one of my databases. Now, that database is no longer available to me. It has been marked as 'Database(Loading)'
I have reviewed and tried the suggestions given from previous posts of this same question, and they have not been successful (i.e. 'RESTORE DATABASE DPeople WITH RECOVERY' as well as re-restoring the database).
Any suggestions?

2. When tried using an XML source it prompts to set the prohibitdtd setting to false on xmlreader - How to do this.
3. I have primary keys (identity columns) - which are foreign keys in the next level and these primary keys can be generated only once I insert the record into the table. - What would be the best approach for this kind of Data transformations.

I canceled a restore job, and now the database is marked (Loading). When I go to propertied it tells me "database can't be opened, it's in a middle of a restore" Yet from a Query window I can connect and run queries against that database. Should I just wait until it finishes "Loading" or should I re-start the server?

Hi,
I have a problem in restoring a Database. I have restored a database of size 25MB only onto a different database. This I have done through Query Analyzer not through Enterprise Manager. After restoration the database changed to Loading mode.
I thought it would take some time and change back to the normal mode. But in my case even after 24 hours database didnot change back to the normal mode. I am able to use database.
The following is the command executed through Query Analyzer,
RESTORE DATABASE Test
FROM disk ='c:mssql7ackuphrmdump.dat'
WITH REPLACE,
MOVE 'Test' TO 'c:mssql7datahrm.mdf',
MOVE 'Test_log' TO 'c:mssql7datahrm_log.ldf'
Can anyone help me please.
tks in advance,
Srinvasan Madhavan.

Greetings,
I am new at SQL and I have been asked to load some data into a database. I was given a file that has an extention .sql. shown below are the first few lines
quote:TRUNCATE TABLE henrylee.[HenryLee]
GO
INSERT INTO henrylee.[HenryLee] ( [custno], [company], [address1], [address2], [city], [state], [zip], [phone], [email] ) VALUES ( 'C00001', 'SUPREME NOVELTY', '5954 S PULASKI ROAD', '', 'CHICAGO', 'IL', '60629', '', '' )
several more rows after this
This looks to me like it was built to be scripted in or use some function of SQL to create and populate the table... does that make sense? Anyway, is there an easy way to insert this data into a table?
Thanks

Trying to keep out sysadmins & sa during/between database RESTORE
Configuration:
WINNT Server Enterprise 4.0 w/SP5
SQL Server 7 Enterprise & SP1
2 SQL Servers:
Production Server
Standby server
I Backup (full backup) databases to disk on primary server (logical backup devices are physicaly located on a Standby server (dedicated gigabit NIC in each server for this process). Transaction logs are applied to the Standby server throughout the day.
Problem:
How to keep out "sa" and sysadmins from a database while I'm restoring (or between restores) to a standby server?
The database being restored cannot be in use during a restore.
If a DBA forgets that this process is happening, the statement fails (RESTORE)for the database they happen to be in at the time of the restore.
Example restore statement:
Standby Server -
RESTORE DATABASE databasename FROM database_dd WITH DBO_ONLY, REPLACE, STANDBY = 'g:Mssql7FromPrimaryDatabaseName_undo.ldf'
I could restrict Domain sysadmin access and change sa password. I could also put the database in "Single user" mode, however this could become problem if my process disconnects and then someone else connects - then my process is locked out. What I'm really looking for is to lock out all activity for a database that is in "standby mode" except for RESTORE processes.
Any ideas??
