The following failed in EM (or whatever it is called now managementstudio I think) and I scripted it out and ran it in a query window toget more info. This works fine in SQL 2000 but not in 2005. I also triedto 'create' the database first then ran this command below but with the'force restore over existing database' checked on but this failed alsowhich is odd as well. Any ideas. This is my very first play with 2005 soit is not off to a great start although to be fair, i seem to have gorlucky on the install as it all went OK. We were trying to restore our production server db backup in test server over LAN (due to space shortage on test server) . Test server hanged and did not respond for abt more than 15 hours (backup file 40 GB ) . The we restarted the server (resetting the power button) . Now it's showing the status 'Restoring' . According to me it's not doing anything (as seen in task manager workload ) . So how can I go ahead with checking the db .
Due to 'restoring' status I get following error
------------------------------------
Msg 927, Level 14, State 2, Line 1
Database 'envdb' cannot be opened. It is in the middle of a restore.

I got this system error log in the event viewer every time I start the SQL Server cluster resource:
The Microsoft Clustering Service failed restore a registry key for resource SQL Server when it was brought online. This error code was 2. Some changes may be lost.
Even though the SQL seems to be working fine now, I won't know if something drastic will happen later.
Searching the Internet for resolution, I saw this article. The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 307469 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307469) requires using the Windows Server 2003 ClusterRecover utility to reset the server cluster check points.
I've not tried it because I don't know if this is the correct solution or if it will work or not.
Can I even solve the error without using the above utility? I also cannot afford to reinstall the clustering or SQL server.
Thanks in advance. :)

Just installed SQL Server 2005 and tested my old VS 2005 ASPnet websites, which were connected toSQL Server 2000 databases before. All my websites were created for local HTTP applications, coded with a connection string with User ID and Password. The SQL Server 2000 was configured as mixed authentication (i.e. with User ID and Password). These websites worked very well with SQL Server 2000 database server.Testing my old VS 2005 websites with SQL Server 2005 database, showed a 'Login failed for a User ''.' error msgalthough the 'Test Connection' on VS 2005 design showed a perfect query for e.g. a GridView control. I have assured that the UserID/Password were correct for Management Studio Security object'slogin and Database Security's user. The server instance was configured with mixed authentication mode. One thing I am not sure of is, when clicking the Management Studio icon, a Connection dialog showed up, asking for a Windows or MIxed authentication? I just stayed with the Windows authentication. What does the authenticationmode have anything to do with the VS 2005 website connection? Should I change to mixed authetnication mode?TIA,Jeffrey

Hi,all BI experts here,
Thank you very much for your kind attention.
I am having a problem with connecting to SQL Server 2005 database from Office Business Scorecard Manager 2005 (the connection string i am using is: provider=SQLOLEDB;Data source=server_name; Initial catalog=database_name). But the connection failed. Would please any experts here shed me any light on what is the problem and how to fix it then? As there is no any forum for Office Business Scrorecard manager 2005. Therefore I post my thread here as it is related to the connection to SQL Server 2005 database engine, thought here is the best place for this question.
Thank you very in advance for your kind advices and help. And I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
With best regards,

Hi,
I backed up a database to drive f:, then did restore and set options to move the .mdf and .ldf files to different HDs (f: for .mdf and d: for .ldf).
During restore I got a disk IO error. The restore terminated abnormally. Now I have no DB but the .mdf and the .ldf have been moved to the HDs that I specified in the restore options.
I cannot move the .bak file from the f: it gives me an IO error when I try this. It did allow me to copy the .mdf from f: to d:
I need to know how to recover the db frm the .mdf and .ldf files. I have tried using sp_attach_db and got the following error:
An error occurred while processing the log for database 'MyDB'
Please help.
Thank you,
Jeff

Hello, I have a database backup taken from SQL Server 2005. I originally had placed the backup into a file in My Documents, but when I went to locate the backup file there (C:/Documents and Settings...), the folders would not expand. So I moved the backup to the C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLBackup directory and was able to select the file there. When I try to restore this file into SQL Server 2005 Express using the Management Studio, I get the following error message:

I try to restore my local database using the backup from the live server. However I encountered this type of error:

It worked before I added a full-text search feature. Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
SQL Server 2005 TR with IU/QUS - Restore from a backup
Im trying to set-up the above using sp1. It all works fine until the final step, creating a subscription through sp_addarticle and Im getting the following error:
Msg 8152, Level 16, State 10, Procedure sp_MSget_synctran_commands, Line 198
String or binary data would be truncated.
This worked fine on my laptop with a small table with a couple of columns. Now Ive looked at this error and its like
select * from #art_commands
The table only has 49 columns in it, so its not huge.
What are my options for solving/getting around this problem:
1. Try and fix sp_MSget_synctran_commands, from memory, #art_commands has a nvarchar(max) column and Im wondering if this is related. must admit, havent really looked solidly at this sp yet.
2. SP2 doesnt look like it fixes this problem.
3. Create a bespoke method to replicate.
4. anymore for anymore?
It will be impossible to synchronize the databases so this restore from backup was my only option. Im a bit stuck now, can anyone help?
many thanks,
John P

Hi, Our Sharepoint of TFS was down a couple of days ago. By luck, we had fully backed up SQL database. Now, the problem is, I uninstalled everything and tried to move TFS to a new server machine on the domain. I installed freshly everything and tried to restore all the databases (with tables also). Now the problems are these:
1 - Since there are lots of different backup-restore procedures telling on the Internet from some forums and this forum also: What should i do basically to make the configuration of Sharepoint and Reporting Services to make them work correctly?
2 - Secondly, even if i fail in the problem above, I, at least, want to save the source control files and sharepoint files. Where can I find them and how can I take them back to my new TFS installation?
3 - If these problems exist and Suppose on a new project on the new installation, i create new WI's, documents (with new Version Control information), and new SPS configuration. And on a new release, the problems are resolved. Is there some way that I can merge the former Backup with the new installation's database?
