Sql 2000 Database Restored Sql Server 2005

Jan 17, 2007

I have a SQL 2k database backup and I restore it in sql server 2005.

Is this now a SQL Server 2005 database or a 2K database in a 2005 server.

Means do I need to convert databases somehow when I migrated from 2000 to 2005. Is the above mentioned way a way to migrate... or are ther some conversation tools.

Any help / links / ressources would be Great...

SQL Server 2005 Database Diagrams

Mar 24, 2006

This question has been asked several times on this forum, but none of the answers I've seen have worked for me. I just upgraded from SQL Server 2000.

The error I'm getting is:

does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects.

This is a new database I created in SQL Server management studio. It's set to 90 compatibility level. I've tried the "alter authorization" command, which works, but it has no effect (the error is still returned).

The odd part is that if I go to Server Properties->Permissions, select the Login that owns this database, and click "Effective Permissions", I get the error:

Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user '<username>', error code 0x6e. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15404)

But I know for certain that this account is valid and that my machine can reach the domain controller: 1) I received no error when I added this Login to the server and 2) I'm logged into SQL Server Management Studio using the same login.

If I switch to the "sa" user, it works. But I'd really rather find out what I can't use Windows authentication.

Service Broker Not Working For Restored Databases (SQL 2000 Databases Restored On 2005)

Jan 24, 2006

I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.

When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.

Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.

Thanks

Extract & Copy 2005 Database Diagrams

Dec 21, 2007

I have database diagrams in my original db which was built with Management Studio. I now have scripts to build the database from scratch, but my diagrams are left behind, back in the original db. Is there any way to copy the original diagrams into the new db? I know in SS2000 the diagrams were in the dtproperties table; any idea where they are in SS2005?

Retrieving The Tables Relationship From SQL Server Database Diagrams

May 26, 2004

Hi All,

Currently i am defining a simple relationship between
Customers->Orders->Order Details through the Database Diagrams feature in
the SQL 2K. Using the Server Explorer, i can see the Database Diagrams, but
when i try to "drop" the Database Diagrams into the page, it gives the error
message.

I would like to know the procedures to retrieve the database relationships
from Database Diagrams and manipulate them through ADO.NET

I prefer to "convert" already defined relationship using SQL Server Database
Diagrams into XSD file or probably there is another method to "read" those
relationship and manipulate them.

Thank you very much for all your help

SQL2005 Cannot Backup A Restored SQL2000 Database With Unknow Database Full-text Catalog Database

Nov 15, 2007

We replicate a SQL2000 database (DataBaseA) to a SQL2000 database (DataBaseB) by using the Restore function and hasn't change its logical name but only the physical data path and file name. It is running fine for a year. We use the same way to migrate the DataBaseB to a new SQL2005 server with the Restore function and the daily operation is running perfect. However, when we do the Backup of DatabaseB in the SQL2005, it just prompt the error message

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The backup of full-text catalog 'DataBaseA' is not permitted because it is not online. Check errorlog file for the reason that full-text catalog became offline and bring it online. Or BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to include only online data. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Please note we left the DataBaseA in the old SQL2000 server.

Please help on how we can delete the Full-text catalog from DatabaseB so we can do a backup

Many Thanks

Sql Server 2005 Diagram Support

Mar 30, 2006

For some reason, when I try to access a database diagram on our new 2005 SQL Server, I get the following error msg:
"Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner"
It then goes on to instruct me to either use Properties > Files or ALTER AUTHORIZATION to change the database owner.
Well, I've done that - and it clearly shows that there is an owner of the database, but even if I log in as that owner, the error msg continues to come up everytime I try to access Diagrams.
I found a post to run the following stored procedure which will set the sql server compatability level:
EXEC sp_dbcmptlevel database_name, 90
After running that in the query window of Management Stduio, I get the following msg below on the Messages tab:
"DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator."
I then try to create a new diagram again, and I get the same initial error (at the top of this post).
What do I need to do in order to create a DB diagram?

BCP Support In SQL Server 2005 - Doubts

Sep 4, 2007

Hi friends,

I am currently using SQL Server 2000 server. I have run some BCP command to import data to SQL from CSV and Text files with the help of FORMAT files through Windows Scheduler.

My doubt is, if I swich to SQL Server 2005, whether the same BCP commands will supported? If no, What are the things I need to do to run the BCP commands in 2005 as in 2000?

I heard that the BCP utility is no longer support in 2005 and this can be done thru SSIS utility. Is it right...?
Is SQL Server 2005 support to use the BCP commands without going to SSIS utility?

Please help. Thanks in advance.

Sethu.

OCSP Support In SQL Server 2005?

Oct 2, 2007

Hi All,

I'm trying to ensure that the access to my symmetric key is validated every use via the use of (X.509 Certifcate) Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP).

Question: When a Certificate encrypted Symmetric Key is opened in SQL Server 2005, does SQL Server support OCSP revocation checking?

If it does support OCSP: Can the Certificate Revocation List Distribution Point of the certificate only contain an OCSP distribution point (instead of also including HTTP, LDAP, etc)?

This is really important as I do not want any cached CRL to authorise the access to this highly sensitive data...

Platform:
- SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 R2
- Certificate Services on Windows Server 2003 R2

Refer to:
USE AdventureWorks;
OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY SymKeyMarketing3
DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE MarketingCert9;

Help Needed For Transaction Support In SQL Server 2005

Jun 21, 2006

Hi,I have 2 stored procedure 1st insert the data in parent tables and return the Id. and second insert child table data using that parent table id as paramenter. I have foreign key relationship between these two tables also.my data layer methods somewhat looks likepublic void Save(order value){using (TransactionScope transactionScope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required))         {              int orderId =  SaveOrderMaster(value);            value.OrderId = orderid;              int childId = SaveOrderDetails(value);             //complete the transaction              transactionScope.Complete();        }}here  1. SaveOrderMaster() calls an stored procedure InserOrderData which insert a new record in order table and return the orderId  which is identity column in Order table.2. SaveOrderDetails() call another sotored procedure which insert order details in to table "orderdetail" using the foreign key "orderid".My Problem:Some time the above method works correctly but when i call it repeatledly (in a loop) with data,  some time it gives me foreign key error which state that orderid is not existsin table Order. This will happen only randomly. I am not able to figureout the reason. does some one face the same problem. if yes, what could be the reason and/or solution.

Object Permissions On Restored Database

Dec 7, 2007

Hi,

I have recently restored a backup of a SQL Server 2000 Database (from my production server €“ which is a shared hosting service) on my dev machine so I can do some testing. The issue I am having is with the permission of objects. Some of the objects were created with the dbo user and some with another login (myLogin). The ones that were created with dbo work fine on my dev machine. The others do not work unless I prefix them with €œmyLogin€?€¦ I get an €œInvalid object name€? if I don€™t prefix them. This is problematic because there are hundreds of stored procs and tables that I would need to modify in order to use them on my dev machine.

Can anyone tell me how to create a new user with the necessary permissions so I can execute my procs and access tables without having to prefix them?

Hope this makes sense €“ please let me know if it doesn€™t.

Thanks,

Mike

Asymmetic Key Recovery On A Restored Database

Mar 31, 2008

Hi
I have an sql server 2005+sp2 instance and a db on it.
I have create a database master key (specifying a password so it WILL NOT get encrypted by the server master key) on my database and backed it up

CREATE MASTER KEY ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'test'
go
BACKUP MASTER KEY TO FILE = 'c:Genesis_DBMasterKey.key' ENCRYPTION BY PASSWORD = 'test'

Then I have created a asymmetic key without specifying a password therefore the key will get encrypted bt the database master key.

CREATE ASYMMETRIC KEY card WITH ALGORITHM = RSA_512

And then for test I run

DECLARE @Encryptvalasym varbinary(MAX)
SET @Encryptvalasym = EncryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('card'), 'EncryptedData')
SELECT @Encryptvalasym
SELECT CONVERT(varchar(max),DecryptByAsymKey(AsymKey_ID('card'),@Encryptvalasym) )

And the result is OK.

Problem: as a recovey plan if I restore the database on the same or other instance (althogh the asymmetic key is part of backup) the decrypt doesn€™t work.
I have tried to create a bank database restore tha databse master key and recreate the asymmetric key, but I€™m afraid I€™m still not having any luck with it, as it does not decrypt.

My main issue is that is any case if I have to recover the database , how do I have to make sure that encryption/Dycription will work?
Thanks
