Restored SQL 2000 Backup, Stored Procedures Don't Work

May 6, 2006

Hello
I have restored a SQL 2000 backup of my database, ever since my web applications are unable to use any of the stored procedures.
I get the following error:
Could not find stored procedure 'xxx'.

If I use enterprise manager and go to the procedures tab the procedure appears there.

Any ideas what is up?

PS: The username has been changed, before the backup it was "user1" now its something else. For some reason it still shows that the procedure object is owned by "user1". Could this be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Service Broker Not Working For Restored Databases (SQL 2000 Databases Restored On 2005)

Jan 24, 2006

I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.

When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.

Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.

Thanks

Prashanth

Sp_sproc_columns Does Not Seem To Work On Managed Stored Procedures

Jul 10, 2007

Hi,

I have written a stored procedure using C#.NET. I deployed it to SQL Server, and everything works fine.

However, an Third-Party app needs to see what parameters it can use for this SP by executing sp_sproc_columns <SP name>

sp_sproc_columns

Seems to work on normal SP's written in T-SQL, but not on Managed SP's. On my SP, sp_sproc_columns does not seem to work. It does not return the parameters. On normal SP's, it does.

Anyone have an idea why this is?

Stored Procedures 2005 Vs Stored Procedures 2000

Sep 30, 2006

Hi,

This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.

Thank you in advance for any help on this matter

SQL Server 2000 - Proper Backup Procedures

Jul 24, 2006

Hi everyone I am fairly new to SQL server and need some help with creating backups. I am a little confused whether to append or overwrite my backup data when saving full, differential and transaction log backups to disk. Below is my current backup schedule.

1) A full backup every night at 2:00a.m. that overwrites my existing backup. Should this be an appended backup? Wouldn't my file keep growing? How do I manage the backup file size?
2) Differential backups every two hours that is set to append. How do I stop this file from growing? Should I be controlling the size of my backups through the backup set expiry option?

How do I incorporate transaction logs into my backup schedule and manage the size of the log? Should the log backups also be appended or overwriten?

I appreciate everyones help in advance.

DB Backup Is Not Being Restored To Another DB - Specified Cast Is Not Valid

May 12, 2015

I have been experiencing "Specified cast is not valid" error while restoring backup of DB. Version of SQL server management tool from which I am taking the backup is "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2500.0 (Intel X86) Jun 17 2011 00:57:23 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (WOW64) (Hypervisor) ". And restoring to the same version tool.

I have tried all the workarounds like TSQL, Upgrade the version of restoring DB to higher version, MDF and LDF files generation. But they are not working.

I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:

Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Imports System.Data.SqlTypes

Public Class Form1

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI;"

Dim connection As SqlConnection = New

SqlConnection(connectionString)

Try

connection.Open()

Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("byroyalty", connection)

command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

etc.

From the above-mentioned (1), (2) and (3), you can see how much I am lost/confused in attempting to do this task. Please help and give me some guidances and good key instructions for getting the output parameter printed out in the FORM.vb in my VB 2005 Express project.

Thanks in advance,

SQL 2000 DB Restored On A SQL 2005

Greetings!

I'm wondering if a db from an sql server 2000 restored on a sql 2005 server will use algoritms from sql 2000 or sql 2005. It seams to work quite well with a few exceptions, it's only for test anyway.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I could not see it.

Does The .. Expression In Stored Procedure Work In SSRS 2000 ?

Mar 13, 2007

Hi,

I am not understanding this part of the problem. I am currently reusing a stored procedure that has a ".." as part of the select statement.

I can't put the select statement up here due to privacy but I have found the error where the error states the following:-

Invalid Column Prefix: AM, invalid table name.

I noticed that part of the select statement was the following:-

AM..Field1

I tried executing this stored procedure in the query analyzer and it works fine, but when I tried executing it in SSRS, it gives me the error. After searching through the internet for possible causes, I found out that it was the ".." was giving the error. Anyone knows why ? I found out that it was supposed to bypass any users and permissions to the table.

Thakns !

I use sql 2005 express on my computer for testing. The server that hosts my site is a sql 2000 server. Therefore I tuned the one database I use down to sql 8.
When I create stored procedures from web developer express, to the local sql 8 database I have in my sql express, it works nice. But when I copy all my files and my stored procedure to the webhost, it doesn't work.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

This sends an automated email to the user with a link to activate the users registration. If the user does not register within 24 hours, his registration must be automatically deleted from the database using a stored procedure.I know how to do this using the global.aspx file, however there must be an alternative way of doing this, especially if the database is an SQL database. I do not know how much MSSQL server access is given to a developer by an as ISP who hosts the website. Can anyone tell me what would be the best method to use.ThxWarren

SQL2005 Cannot Backup A Restored SQL2000 Database With Unknow Database Full-text Catalog Database

Nov 15, 2007

We replicate a SQL2000 database (DataBaseA) to a SQL2000 database (DataBaseB) by using the Restore function and hasn't change its logical name but only the physical data path and file name. It is running fine for a year. We use the same way to migrate the DataBaseB to a new SQL2005 server with the Restore function and the daily operation is running perfect. However, when we do the Backup of DatabaseB in the SQL2005, it just prompt the error message

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The backup of full-text catalog 'DataBaseA' is not permitted because it is not online. Check errorlog file for the reason that full-text catalog became offline and bring it online. Or BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to include only online data. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Please note we left the DataBaseA in the old SQL2000 server.

Please help on how we can delete the Full-text catalog from DatabaseB so we can do a backup

Many Thanks
