Hi all,
My first post on these forums and I'm hoping someone can please help me before I pull all of my hair out.
I'm currently working on the redevelopment of a website. The old one was written in ASP and we're going to totally redo the whole thing. As a lot of the content was dynamic I want to fire up the old site on my laptop to browse and pull content from. I have a backup of the entire website which I have put under a fresh IIS install. I also have a backup of the MSSQL database. I have restored this to the local machine and can view it using the SQL Server Management Studio. The problem is that I think I am having lots of trouble synching the users/permissions for it. We don't have a backup of the Master databases so I am stuck with what I can extract from the site backup and web code.
Trying to load the old index.asp I get either of these error messages quote:'Login failed for user 'Username'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection' or 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied.' depending on how I've played with the user permissions.
Please can someone help me sort this out so that the old ASP webpages can access the DB again? I'm used to mySQL/PHP so am struggling a bit to get this going.
-Edit-
Bit more info. Here are the connection details the site uses within an ASP page.
<%
dim Conn
'---------------------Create connection------------------------------------------------------
Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Conn.Open "Driver={SQL Server};Server=MYSERVER;Database=dbTest;uid=dbTestUser;pwd=testpasssql"
%>
Cheers

We set up a test box and having been trying to move an entire instancefrom our production server to this one. I have moved all my createddbs using the RESTORE WITH MOVE. Now I am trying to move the Master,Model, and msdb. This is where I am having trouble. On the productionbox the dbs are stored on D:mssql$instancenamedata. On the testserver the data is stored in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQLServermssql$instancenamedata. Also the server names are different.So I finally got the Master from production to restore over the test'scopy. Now the instance will not start. I was trying to use thefollowing code in cmd line to connect to the instace so I could thencopy model and msdb:sqlservr -c -f -T3608 -T4022 -sINSTANCENAMEWhen this is trying to connect I read it is failing and saying that theMDF and LDF may be corrupt or not there. The problem is it is nowtrying to look in D:mssql$instancenamedata instead of C:ProgramFilesMicrosoft SQL Servermssql$instancenamedata. Any ideas on how Ican change this, or if I have to reinstall the entire instace, not runinto this again?

Help!
I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE]
field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData ( binaryArrayReturnedFromC#dll )
The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other
machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am
stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?
What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing
into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns
data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize
it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and
serialization function is coming from c# dll.)
Dim b As BusinessLicense = New BusinessLicense()
b.ApprovalDate = Row.approvaldate
b.BusinessId = Row.busid
b.BusinessName = Row.busname
b.NaicsCode = Row.naicscode
b.NaicsDescription = Row.naicsdescr
b.OwnerName = Row.ownername
b.Phone = Row.phone
b.Pkey = Row.pkey
b.RenewalDate = Row.renewaldate
b.StartDate = Row.startdate
b.Suite = Row.suite
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData(Serializer.Serialize(b)) '''----This is blocking line
Row.infoType = BusinessLicense.TYPE
Both machine is xp with sp2. and standard SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06

Hi to everyone,
I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.

Hullo all
I have two machines,
One is a standalone machine and the other is on a domain network. How can I run a stored procedure/job on the standalone machine from the domain machine ?
running the procedure as a Domain user results in a failed job/stored proc.
also creating an sql login and attempting to run it as that user also fails. How can I solve this problem ?
please e-mail me at wayde@sunnygrp.com if you have any thoughts...

I did a full backup of a db from one server(Express2005) and trying to restore it to a different instance of SQL2005 on the same development machine. (Also had some fulltext columns if that means anything)
Many failures but finally got it to report all was successful except the icon in Object Explorer shows (Restoring...) with no indication of any real activity going on. It's a tiny database with hardly any data in it.
Just not sure what the heck is going on there. It also won't let me into the database until this the (Restoring...) goes away.
Any advice on how to get this thing finished out?

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there was any white papers on the migration part from microsoft?
Apparently the situation is like this
Currently installed MOSS 2007 in a testing pc as application server. This application server will refer another testing database server which running SQL Server 2005.
Now, wanted to move this 2 temporary server into another 2 new servers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it cannot be done by using image like Norton Ghost due to difference hardware spec.
So, if I install another fresh copy of MOSS2007 & SQL server 2005 in that 2 new servers, how can I migrate the contents, documents, etc from the testing database server?
It would be great if someone can show me the links to kb article. Thanks

if you can restore a database to Server B using Server A as the service. Meaning we would issue the command on Server A but somehow point to Server B as where we want the restore to happen.
The backup file would be in a location independent of both servers.

Hi all Pros I am transfering from windows2003 server and MS SQL 2000 to Windows Vista and SQL Express ...... Before I allways created a database manually and I could allways use as many databases I needed so in that way I could have several versions of a database for a certain software during development. Can you use separeted databasenames when developing in SQL Express? I am using a dotnetnuke installation file and inside the project there is a file /App_Data/Database.mdf should this file be renamed everytime I make a new testinstallation or setting up a separate dev environment /Johan

Any help would be greatly appreciated.My problem is that I need to set up a backup SQL Server 2000 machinewhich can be used in case of a failure to my primary. All databases(30 as of now) must be an up to the minute exact copy of productionand include most recent changes in data as well as any structurechanges (Tables, Views, SP's, Triggers, Users . . etc).When I tried this using Transactional Replication, the replicationprocess gets fouled up once I introduce any kind of structure changesto the DB. I've considered the idea of doing periodic backups andrestoring it to my backup SQL server, but this does not give me theconcurrency needed with 0 latency.I've seen articles that recommend using Transaction Replication with'Scheduled Table Refresh', and also doing database dumps to restore onthe backup machine, but I have not been able to find any documentationregarding this to try out. How can I implement this type of backupstrategy in SQL 2000?

Hi,
I have a msaccess linked server that I use to execute sql 2000 stored procedures from a front end in adp (access data project) format without any problem, if it is used on the same machine where the sql server resides (with any user logged on). In any other machine on the local network where I also need to use it, I get an ole/db error message saying that the microsoft jet database engine can not open the file because it's allready opened exclusivly or because it do not has permissions. I created the linked server with both UNC and normal path with the same result.
Thank's for all the help/clues you can give me.

I have a database that I am restoring from a different server. I have created the devices and the database to match that of the original. However, on clicking restore I get the following error:
[SQL Server] User specified volume id 'SS0001' does not match te volume id ' SQL001' of the device <database path>.
This seems to imply that I cannot restore to a different server, but from what I have read about other problems here, this isn't true. Can anyone shed any light as it is most frustrating.
Carl.

Hi!
I'm a beginner w ith SQL Express and am having some problems. I am using 2005 SP1 and installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express as well. I have a backup from a SQL Server 7.0 database that I am trying to restore into my database using the management studio. When I try to restore from the file into my database, I get the error,
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The backup of the system database on the device D:GMBeta2Local.bak cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the server (7.00.1063) than this server (9.00.3033). (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)
Is this true? Is there any way for me to get this data into my SQL Server 2005 express on my laptop?

Hi
I have another question : 1) Restoring SQL Server Databases after uninstalling and reinstalling SQL Server.
Two days ago there was some problem with Norton Antivirus, so Windows 98 restored itself to a previous state. The SQL Server name was not available when I tried to start again, so I had to uninstall and reinstall SQL Server. I started a new Database just a week before this happened (the change from Access to SQL Server as I stated in the other thread http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=987880) and after reinstallation I could not access the Database any more - even while it is in the Data directory. I did not have any backup to restore from - I just started creating tables, so there was only the Log file created and the MDF database file. I tried to import it for a while to the new server, but as the database is not shown in the new server, it was unable to import like I hoped. So how do you restore it back to SQL Server when you have no backup and only the (undamaged) MDF database file if you only have one server? I had to recreate the Database from scratch again - I don't want it to happen again.
Regards
Corné

Hi!
I attempted to backup a database on server x and restore it on a database on server y. The details are as follows.
Server X
Database name : dbx
Size :263.88MB (Unrestricted filegrowth option set)
Logical files : dbx_data, dbx_log
Physical files : e:mssql7datadbx_data.mdf, f:databaselogsdbx_log.ldf
Server Y
Database name : dby
Size :1MB (Unrestricted filegrowth option set)
Logical files : dby_data, dby_log
Physical files : d:mssql7datadby_data.mdf, d:mssql7datadby_log.ldf
I created a full database backup of dbx on server x at the location, f:ackupsdbx_083099_10.30AM. The size of the file is 272MB. I zipped the file. Copied the file, dbx_083099_10.30AM.xip over to d:ackups of server y. I unzipped the file at server y to the location, d:ackupsdbx_083099_10.30AMdbx_083099_10.30AM.
I now tried to restore this backup on server y using the statement,
restore database dby from disk = 'd:ackupsdbx_083099_10.30AMdbx_083099_10.30AM
with replace,
move 'dbx_data' to 'd:mssql7datadby_data.mdf',
move 'dbx_log' to 'd:mssql7datadby_log.ldf'
I get the following errors :
Server: Msg 3257, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
There is insufficient free space on disk volume 'd:' to create the database. The database requires 3219128320 additional free bytes, while only 2047102976 bytes are available.
