Retrieving Multiple Values From One Field In SQL Server For Use In Multiple Columsn In Reports

Mar 30, 2007

I am trying to create a report using Reporting Services.

My problem right now is that the way the table is constructed, I am trying to pull 3 seperate values i.e. One is the number of Hours, One is the type of work, and the 3rd is the Grade, out of one column and place them in 3 seperate columns in the report.

I can currently get one value but how to get the information I need to be able to use in my reports.

So far what I've been working with SQL Reporting Services 2005 I love it and have made several reports, but this one has got me stumped.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I might not have made my problem quite clear enough. My table has one column labeled value. The value in that table is linked through an ID field to another table where the ID's are broken down to one ID =Number of Hours, One ID = Grade and One ID= type of work.

What I'm trying to do is when using these ID's and seperate the value related to those ID's into 3 seperate columns in a query for using in Reporting Services to create the report

As you can see, I'm attempting to change the name of the same column 3 times to reflect the correct information and then link them all to the person, where one person might have several entries in the other fields.

As you can see I can change the names individually in queries and pull the information seperately, it's when roll them altogether is where I'm running into my problem

Thanks for the suggestions that were made, I apoligize for not making the problem clearer.

Here is a copy of what I'm attempting to accomplish. I didn't have it with me last night when posting.

--Pulls the Service Opportunity

SELECT cs.value AS "Service Opportunity"

FROM Cstudent cs

INNER JOIN cattribute ca ON ca.attributeid = cs.attributeid

WHERE ca.name = 'Service Opportunity'

--Pulls the Number of Hours

SELECT cs.value AS 'Number of Hours'

FROM Cstudent cs

INNER JOIN cattribute ca ON ca.attributeid =cs.attributeid

WHERE ca.name ='Num of Hours'

--Pulls the Person Grade Level

SELECT cs.value AS 'Grade'

FROM Cstudent cs

INNER JOIN cattribute ca ON ca.attributeid =cs.attributeid

WHERE ca.name ='Grade'

--Pulls the Person Number, First and Last Name and Grade Level

SELECT s.personnumber, s.lastname, s.firstname, cs.value as "Grade"

FROM student s

INNER JOIN cperson cs ON cs.personid = s.personid

INNER JOIN cattribute ca ON ca.attributeid = cs.attributeid

WHERE cs.value =(SELECT cs.value AS 'Grade'

WHERE ca.attributeid = cs.attributeid AND ca.name='Grade')

Retrieving Multiple Values Using Non-joined Files

Feb 25, 2008

Hi - I'm new to SSRS/SQL and have a situation I can't figure out. I've tried a number of things, but I'm not sure the best way to return a calculated column based on the structure of my tables.

I have a primary Detail table that tracks product testing results. The Detail records need to be calculated against a "Year" table that contains a set of values by year. This table contains a single record for each year. There isn't a direct key that joins these two tables.

The Detail table looks like:
Record ID: 9999
PO Number: 12345
Date: 12/1/2007
Test Result: 1.52

The Year table looks like:
Record ID: 1
Start Date: 10/6/2007
End Date: 6/14/2008
LowVal1: 1.0
HighVal1: 1.49
Incentive1: .05
LowVal2: 1.50
HighVal2: 1.59
Incentive2: .06
and so on...

The Detail records need to find the correct Year record based on the Detail date, find the correct value within the LowVal - HighVal range based on the Test Result value, and then multiply the Test Result by the correct Incentive value and return that value.

I was able to find the correct LowVal-HighVal range using an Expression in the report column. Now that I need multiple years, I can't figure out the best way to configure the query.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Insert Multiple Values Into One Field

Jul 24, 2006

i can't believe my situation is unique, but my searches for answers have proven fruitless, so please bear with me.i have a date field in my database, and have previously used a simple textbox to allow users to insert a date.  i want to make this a little step a little nicer, however, and have added a dropdown for the month, a textbox for the date (i'm not "good" enough to dynamically change this around for a dropdown list), and a dropdown list for the next few years.what "insert" statement would allow me to accomplish this?  what i currently have doesn't blow up, but neither does it actually insert anything.  here's my statment:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sdsVersion" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:DB %>"    InsertCommand="INSERT INTO [Version] ([Major], [Minor], [Sub], [Rev], [Date]) VALUES (@Major, @Minor, @Sub, @Rev, @Month + '-' + @Day + '-' + @Year)">    <InsertParameters>        <asp:Parameter Name="Major" Type="Int32" />        <asp:Parameter Name="Minor" Type="Int32" />        <asp:Parameter Name="Sub" Type="Int32" />        <asp:Parameter Name="Rev" Type="Int32" />        <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ddlMonths" Name="Month" PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int32" />        <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="tbDate" Name="Day" PropertyName="Text" Type="Int32" />        <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ddlYears" Name="Year" PropertyName="SelectedValue" Type="Int32" />    </InsertParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>

Field Contains Multiple Values Seperated By Comma

May 3, 2006

Hi All

I'm really new to SQL and would appreciate a solution to the following problem.

I have a table that contains 1 record. in that record there is a column called CODES which contains multiple values that are seperated by a comma.

C200,C201,C202,C204,C200,C203,C200,C202,C203,C205,C200,C202,C203,C204,C205,C206,C200,C201,C202

I need a solution to select all values from CODES that are distinct so I end up with the following.

C200,C201,C202,C203,C204,C205,C206

Any help would be really appreciated. Please bear in mind I'm a complet novice.

Reporting Services :: Pass Multiple Values From Field To Sub Report

Dec 3, 2015

I would like to know how does subreport accept multi value, and how should i modify my expression so that the sub report will display correctly.

My main report will pass dynamic number of account number to sub report, it depends on how many account number a person has. I have my sub report parameter Data Type set as "Allow multiple values" and the visibility is "Visible".

Currently, I am using the following expression to try to pass multi value from main report to sub report. I had tested the result of that expression. It is showing the following result when there are 3 account numbers to pass to sub report.

1534896
1563498
1593548

With that expression, when only one account no is pass from main report to sub report, the sub report will display the result. But when more than one account numbers are passing over, the sub report display nothing, it is blank.

--expression
=Join(LookupSet(Fields!PersonNo.Value,Fields!PersonNo.Value,Fields!AccountNo.Value,
"accounts"),""
+ VBCRLF)

*Note: I cannot put the account number into a multivalue parameter in the main report and pass from that parameter to sub report. I know this will workd BUT I had tried that by setting the default value in the multivalue parameter to the dataset that consists of the account number. That involves 100 thousand plus plus account numbers and it will for sure over the limit of 8000 characters.

Multiple Columns With Different Values OR Single Column With Multiple Criteria?

Aug 22, 2007

Hi,

I have multiple columns in a Single Table and i want to search values in different columns. My table structure is

col1 (identity PK)
col2 (varchar(max))
col3 (varchar(max))

I have created a single FULLTEXT on col2 & col3.
suppose i want to search col2='engine' and col3='toyota' i write query as

SELECT

TBL.col2,TBL.col3
FROM

TBL
INNER JOIN

CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col2,'engine') TBL1
ON

TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
INNER JOIN

CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col3,'toyota') TBL2
ON

TBL.col1=TBL2.[key]

Every thing works well if database is small. But now i have 20 million records in my database. Taking an exmaple there are 5million record with col2='engine' and only 1 record with col3='toyota', it take substantial time to find 1 record.

I was thinking this i can address this issue if i merge both columns in a Single column, but i cannot figure out what format i save it in single column that i can use query to extract correct information.
for e.g.;
i was thinking to concatinate both fields like
col4= ABengineBA + ABBToyotaBBA
and in search i use
SELECT

TBL.col4
FROM

TBL
INNER JOIN

CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABBToyotaBBA"') TBL1
ON

TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
Result = 1 row

But it don't work in following scenario
col4= ABengineBA + ABBCorola ToyotaBBA

SELECT

TBL.col4
FROM

TBL
INNER JOIN

CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABB*ToyotaBBA"') TBL1
ON

TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]

Result=0 Row
Any idea how i can write second query to get result?

SqlDataReader - Pulling Multiple Values Into Multiple Variables

Mar 29, 2007

Hello all,I'm trying to request a number of URLS (one for each user) from my database, then place each of these results into a separate string variables. I believed that SqlDataReader could do this for me, but I am unsure of how to accomplish this, or if I am walking down the wrong road. The current code is below (the section in question is in bold), please ignore the fact that I'm using MySQL as the commands work in the same way. public partial class main : System.Web.UI.Page{    String UserName;    String userId;    String HiveConnectionString;    String Current_Location;    ArrayList Location;    public String Location1;    public String Location2;    public String Location3;    //Int32 x = 0;    private void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)    {        if (User.Identity.IsAuthenticated)        {            UserName = Membership.GetUser().ToString();            userId = Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString();            HiveConnectionString = "Database=hive;Data Source=localhost;User Id=hive_admin;Password=West7647";            using (MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection conn = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection(HiveConnectionString))            {                // Map Updates                 MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Locationcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "SELECT Location FROM tracker WHERE Location = IsOnline = '1'");                Locationcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                Locationcmd.Connection = conn;                conn.Open();                MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDataReader LocationReader = Locationcmd.ExecuteReader();                 while (LocationReader.Read())                {                        Location1 = LocationReader.GetString(0);                        //Location2 = LocationReader.GetString(1); // This does not work..                }                                LocationReader.Close();                conn.Close();                // IP Display                MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Checkcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "SELECT UserName FROM tracker WHERE PKID = ?PKID");                Checkcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                Checkcmd.Connection = conn;                conn.Open();                object UserExists = Checkcmd.ExecuteScalar();                conn.Close();                if(UserExists == null)                {                    MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Insertcmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "INSERT INTO tracker (PKID, UserName, IpAddress, IsOnline) VALUES (?PKID, ?Username, ?IpAddress, 1)");                                        Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?IpAddress", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 15).Value = Request.UserHostAddress;                    Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?Username", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = UserName;                    Insertcmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                    Insertcmd.Connection = conn;                    conn.Open();                    Insertcmd.ExecuteNonQuery();                    conn.Close();                }                else                {                    MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand Updatecmd = new MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlCommand(                        "UPDATE tracker SET IpAddress = ?IpAddress, IsOnline = '1' WHERE UserName = ?Username AND PKID = ?PKID");                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?IpAddress", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 15).Value = Request.UserHostAddress;                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?Username", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = UserName;                    Updatecmd.Parameters.Add("?PKID", MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlDbType.VarChar, 255).Value = userId;                    Updatecmd.Connection = conn;                    conn.Open();                    Updatecmd.ExecuteNonQuery();                    conn.Close();                }            }        }    } Can anyone advise me on what I should be doing (even if its just a "you should be using this command) if this is not correct? Using StoredProc With Multiple Result(or Datatable) In Server Reports

Sep 17, 2007

Hi guys,

I've been doing some LOCAL reports on my current application until recently there's has been a case that I really need to do SERVER reports.

Usually when I design my local reports, I create a XSD file, so I usually have one dataset with multiple tables in it. I just pass the dataset to report with a single procedure call that returns multiple result sets or data table.

From what I understood server reports are binded to database objects only, like stored procedures. Now I used the same stored procedure that I used in my local report to my server report. But the thing is only the first result set in the stored procedure is recognized. Are there anyway that I can bind the server report to a single stored procedure that return multiple result sets?

Thanks.

Retrieving Data From Multiple SQL Servers In Parallel

Nov 9, 2001

I have multiple SQL 2000 servers that hold data which I retrieve using a single SQL stored procedure. Unfortunately, I don't know how to retrieve this data asychronously (in parallel).

For example, I retrieve data from two linked servers using the following:

select * into #temp from openquery(SomeLinkedServer,'exec BigQueryHere')
select * into #temp2 from openquery(OtherLinkedServer,'exec BigQueryThere')
.
.
lots of manipulation of the temporary tables to get what I want, etc.
.
.

The problem I have with this is that there is no reason why the first query should have to finish before the second query begins (serially) because these are on separate servers. Is there a way to execute these so that they run at the same time?

Retrieving Multiple Rows For A Cursor Item

Hi, can someone plz give me an idea of how to proceed with this...
I've got a server side cursor that retrieves a list of customers from a sql server table which match a specific criteria (those who have had orders in the yr 2000)
For each customer, I need to retrieve a list of 5 top items purchased along with dollars spent on each item by that customer.
I've tried to do this in a loop that uses a counter but probably my syntax was off and I'm not sure that this is better than a correlated join? Can someone show me a temlate of the appropriate syntax to use for this operation
I appreciate suggestions, thanks again.

Calculating Values In Multiple Tables Within A UDF In SQL Server

Feb 24, 2005

Hi,
I'm using scalar UDFs in SQL server to return computed values. I've been trying to use the same udfs to perform the same computations but from different tables, but I'm not sure how. Can someone please help???

Here's an example of a counter that I'm using to return the number of days.

CREATE FUNCTION [dbo].[MarketPulse_fn_Counter] (@date smalldatetime, @date2 smalldatetime, @osid int)

RETURNS int AS

BEGIN

return (select count(*) from MarketPulse_0ndqc
where stockosid = @osid and createdate <= @date and createdate >=@date2 )

END

How can I use this same UDF to do the same computation but to SELECT from another table and return that value?

SQL Server 2014 :: Linking Parameter To Multiple Values

Feb 17, 2015

Attempting to build a report were you can place a specific code in the parameter field and it will return all row values based on that particular code. I have a similar report that works great, but the specific code is just in 1 column, the one I'm trying to create has the potential to have that code in up to 20 different spots. I have the report built, but the issue I'm facing is linking the parameter. Is there a way to link 1 parameter to multiple column options?

Here's an example:

Docflo Distribution Group Queue Status Pend1 Pend 2 Pend 3 Pend 4 Pend 5
ABC ABC1 Catch All NEW 123 126 125 621 129
ABC ABC1 Various PENDED 621 123 872 542 630

Right now if I were to link the parameter to the Pend1 field, I would get every line I wanted that had Pend "123", but it would not include any of the lines where Pend "123" was in Pend 2, Pend 3, Pend 4, so on.

How would I link the parameter to more than 1 column so it would return all rows with a specific code no matter which Pend column it was in?

1380900 XZ01 12 1/6/2015 P302
1380900 XZ01 12 1/6/2015 L405
1380900 XZ01 12 1/6/2015 P302 1004

INTO a single record:

RECORD_ID BO_ID Code Code_Date SubMsgCD1 SubMsgCD2 LNMsgCD1
1380900 XZ01 12 1/6/2015 P302 L405 1004

SQL Server 2012 :: Splitting Column Values In Multiple Columns And Assigning It To Row

Dec 11, 2013

How do I write a query using the split function for the following requirement.I have a table in the following way

Identity Name Col1 Col2 Col3
1 Test1 1,2,3 200,300,400 3,4,6
2 Test2 3,4,5 300,455,600 2,3,8

I want an output in the following format

Identity Name Col1 Col2 Col3
1 Test1 1 200 3
1 Test1 2 300 4
1 Test1 3 400 6
2 Test2 3 300 2
2 Test2 4 455 3
2 Test2 5 600 8

If you see the data, first element in col1 is matched to first element in col2 and 3 after splitting the string.

In the below query I have different variable (email, fname, month_last_taken) from same query being assigned to different columns, can i pass all columns to one variable only and then extract that column out of that variable later? This way I just need to write the query once in the complete block.

DECLARE @email varchar(500)
,@intFlag INT
,@INTFLAGMAX int
,@TABLE_NAME VARCHAR(100)

[code].....
