I have a query return all the names of the table in my database via this code:
SELECT MSysObjects.Name
FROM MSysObjects
WHERE (((Left([Name],4))<>"MSYS"));
I need to further refine the search fitting in the critera LIKE 'qry_tbl%' I dont know how to fit this in .. i tried fitting it in to the end, but nothing comes up.. I also tried querying the results of this query with another query :-P but that didnt work either .. any ideas?
In essence i need all the table names in my DB that start with 'qry_tbl' to be in a list for me..
Hello, { Merry xmas to all few hours early but hey !! }
I'm trynig to create an application that will connect to any database that i specify and return the colums names within any table that i specify.
I have done the code that establishes the connection but im a bit stumped on how to get the colum names from a tabel and was wondering if anybody had any sourse code for this in VB.
I wihsh to discuss whether to use fully qualified names:[database].[schema].objectof objects to operate (create, query..) on is good or not?If someone change order of sql code blocks in my script - this may causelose of it's context (like: use master / use <mydb>..). I wish to have mysript independed on changes like this and always produce correct result.Does using full name make use of 'use <db>' statement unnecessary?
I have a .NET program that can connect to either an Access 97 database or anSQL Server 7 database. In the database I have two tables which have a fieldcalled ID. When I run a query like "SELECT A.*, B.* FROM A, B", the queryreturns those fields as "A.ID" and "B.ID" when connected to Access 97, butas "ID" and "ID" in SQL Server 7. Is there anyway to get SQL Server toprepend the table name to the field name in a case like this and not returnduplicate field names like that without having to specify aliases for thefields?- Don
In SQLServer 7 when we ran profiler we could get objectID and ObjectName. In SQLServer 2000 these items are available in profiler but the columns are always blank.
I am writing an sproc for creating a table, but I don't know how I can use parameter values as object names (for example the name of the table needs to be [@sFile1+'_'+@sLinkName+'_'+@sFile2']. It seems that I could concatenate my whole CREATE TABLE string into a single variable and use EXEC to run it, but I'd prefer to be able to do it in the context of the sProc (I read that EXEC always has the current user's permissions). What is a good technique?
CREATE TABLE [@sFile1+'_'+@sLinkName+'_'+@sFile2] ( [GID_ID]uniqueidentifierROWGUIDCOLNOT NULL, ['GID_'+@sFile1]uniqueidentifierNOT NULL, ['GID_'+@sFile2]uniqueidentifierNOT NULL, CONSTRAINT ['LNK_'+@sFile1+'_'+@sLinkname+'_'+@sFile2] FOREIGN KEY(['GID_'+@sFile2]) REFERENCES [@sFile2](GID_ID) ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION NOT FOR REPLICATION, CONSTRAINT ['LNK_'+@sFile2+'_'+@sLinkname+'_'+@sFile1] FOREIGN KEY(['GID_'+@sFile1]) REFERENCES [@sFile1](GID_ID) ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION NOT FOR REPLICATION )
I have created a sql login account called "webuser" and has given public role in my database. In my asp.net application i build connection string using above account and its password . We give permission on store procedure for for the above account to execute .We dont give table level permission for the above account . When we run the application with the above settings it runs fine on test server . However Now i have transfered the databse object to live server with its permissions . Now while I executing the aspx page , I am getting above error . I have checked that the store procedure has execute permission for webuser account and dbo(i.e SA) has all the permissions for all database objects . Still why i am getting error ? (Please note , the thing is working fine in test server)
In Management Studio, under Registered Servers, I double-click a server name (could be sql 2000 or sql 2005 server) and it apperars in "Object Explorer" where I can work with it. I click the "Save All" button in Management Studio, exit Studio, and re-start Studio. When I do, I find that all the servers I placed under "Object Explorer" are now missing and I need to go through the "double-click the registered server" ritual again. And again, and again.
What am I doing wrong here? Why don't the servers "stick" in Object Explorer?
Same SQL Server DB engine (2012), connected with two different clients (2008 and 2012). When I check objects for performance condition alert, 2008 client shows the objects name with leading "SQL Server".But 2012 client displays just the object name and NOT prefixed with "SQL Server".we have automated alerts creation, so it fails depends on the client version.
I thought I saw this done once before. So today I hunted around inBooks OnLine and did a Google search. So far I have found nothingclose. So if you know how to do it, please tell me or if cannot bedone, I'd appreciate know that too. Thanks in advance,IanO
When I run the parse command in SSMS, it merely does a syntax check. When I run through the export data wizard by right clicking on a table, it allows a query as the data source. When I click on the parse button in the window that accepts that query, it resolves object names and notifies me of invalid ones. I'd really like the same thing to happen when I parse in SSMS...
Does any one has any clue for this error ? I did went through a lot of articles on this error but none helped . I am working in Visual studie 2005 and trying to upload image in sql database through a simple form. Here is the code

When I add a new item to project in VS2005: Project-->Add New Item --> Sql Database I got a error msg "object reference not set to an instance of an object" after click "Add" button. The SQL Server Express is running. How do I fix this problem?
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Query execution failed for data set 'TestID'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
The log file reads:
---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: Query execution failed for data set 'TestID'. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: SELECT permission denied on object 'TableID', database 'Database', schema 'dbo'.
***Background***
General Users got an error message when trying to access any reports we have created. All admin have no problems with the reports. Users (Domain Users) are given rights (Browser) to the reports and the Data Sources (Browser) and yet cannot view the reports.
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot create a connection to data source 'DS2'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection) For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
I'll add this from the report logs...
w3wp!processing!1!3/20/2007-11:43:25:: e ERROR: Data source €˜DS2€™: An error has occurred. Details: Microsoft.ReportingServices.ReportProcessing.ReportProcessingException: Cannot create a connection to data source €˜DS2€™. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database €œDatabase€? requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user €˜DOMAINUsername€™.
The user has rights via a local group to the report and data source (Browser rights) and the local group has been added as a SQL login.
I gave rights to the databases themselves instead of just to SQL and the error changed (Ah-ha...progress, but why!?!?)
I need to grant select, insert, update, and delete permission to an object residing in Database "X" from a store procedure in database "Y". I have already tried USE database statement. Any suggestion. Thanks Maroof Khan
Guys,1st of all.. sorry about my english ok? Im from Brazil...Im trying to get a RS connecting through 2 databases with the querybelow:SELECTscar..osbalcao.numeroos,ccell.dbo.atrib_os.osFROMccell.dbo.atrib_osJOIN scar.dbo.osbalcao on ccell.dbo.atrib_os.os =scar.dbo.osbalcao.numeroosWHERE scar.dbo.osbalcao.localprod = '257'AND scar.dbo.osbalcao.status in ('EM')On a SQL IDE i got a good RS, but, when i try to use that same query onDelphi + ZEOS, the SQL Server tells me that "The database namecomponent of the object qualifier must be the name of the currentdatabase".I really dont understand why. I can only tell that the error isreturned from SQL Server.Have anyone got the same trouble?[]'sTiago Gigli
just starting with sql server, thru the sql express edition, before i get to far wondering if it is ok to use the same database names, specifically the ASPNetDB.mdf in different web applications, or will this cause problems down the line,
ie will have different web site applications running on IIS and want to use the aspnet_regsl wizard,
also wondering if this has any implicaitons when publishing web application to web servers, are any of the local sql express server settings passed on to the web host provider, read about machine.config and if i understand i should put all the settings in the web.config file via the VS20005 ide.
also will it cause any problem inside the sql express magement console,
Hi, I am storing information being sent to me weekly into a ms sqldatabase. The one twist I am running into is that later down the linethe information I recieve may require more columns, or columns mightbe renamed so having a static database call is out of the question. Iwas using mysql but for certain reasons switched to ms sql 2000.Currently before ms sql, I query the database for show fields whichreturns all the database data such as type, column name, etc... then Iuse a giant if statement structure to deal with matching andconverting data from my users display to the information into thedatabase. So my first question is how do I either query or using datatypes builtinto C# return information about a tables setup. I was hoping therewas some sort of table array object which could be returned with namesand types, if not then just an sql statement return. My second question is I have user data which needs to be displayeddifferently then the database raw data, how do I use a C# dataset, andconvert it's column data into my raw database data without having tocreate raw insert and update sql strings myself? I would really liketo use the sort of automatic update features of the dataset.Lastly am I going about this the wrong way? Are there other ways tomap & convert datatypes between a dataset column and a table column.
Have a view that has to reference a table in another database on the same server. This isn't the problem. I am just using Databasename..tablename in the from statement. Get the results required in testing.
The problem is that in production the table name has a space character. i.e. 'accounting info' would be the table name. I have not been able to figure out the proper syntax to capture this properly to reference in the from statement.
I have tried enclosing the name in ' ', " ", [], (), {} and just about every combination I can come up with.
Any help in this would be great, and changing the databse name isn't an option at this time.
I am designing a package to export staging tables into a flat file. The names of the tables will be: TableAStaging_YYYYMM and TableBStaging_YYYYMM. As you can see the names of the tables will be changing each month.
The flat files will have similar naming: C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM and C:MyPathFlatFileTableAStaging__YYYYMM.I want to run the package as an sql job in two steps, one for each table.I need to dynamically pass the table names and file names (together with the path) to the IS package.
As part if a recent requirement I have to export Chinese/Singaporean names in a CSV file. The data in the tables is a NVARCHAR(256).
I am using a FlatFile Connection manager where all the present columns from the table are exported as NVARCHARs. My understanding was that the Chinese/Singaporean names would blend seamlessly with NVARCHARs in place. But, they get garbled when pushed to the CSV.
Here is the connection manager setup
There are a lot of suggestions of fixing this by copying/pasting to a notepad file and changing the formatting... But I cant do that since the file is generated using a schedules SSIS package. How can I tweak the process to fix the issue?
Hello, I have ran into a problem when i'm getting table names in c#. I have tried the sql command: select name from sysobjects where type='U' order by name So it returns the names without a problem. But when I try to access to some tables using their names (to retrieve the columns) I sometimes get the error "Invalid object name" following by the name of the table. So I realized the if the table was not under dbo user then i would get this error. for example: "select name from ContactCreditCard" gives me error because in database management tool it is shown like this: Sales.ContactCreditCard How can i fix this problem? How to get that prefix of the tables?
When connecting to an SQL Server (v7 in this case) the log file shows that old and deleted databases are still being opened as part of the process. Further, these db names are now reserved and cannot be reused, even thought I've deleted them.
Is there any way I can purge all traces of these deleted db names?
You might have guessed, I'm a newbie, which is why there are a few dozen deleted DBs.
I create a user then I create a database and assign my newly created user as owner
When I login as this new user everything works fine BUT my newly created user can still see other database names even though he is not allowed to use them.
How can I prevent him from seeing other database names.
We have recently copied a database from one machine to another. On the old machine, when we access the tables we do not need to use the username.tablename convention to query them. On the new box we do.
For example, to query a table called Page we would nee to do this on the new box.
SELECT * FROM webdev.page
unfortunately all the code is written, without the username prefix. Is there a way to not use the username prefix?
Thank you for your help...sorry for the newbie type question.
ho w do i get all the database names from my local machine which are present in the sql sevrer 2005 i also need how do i get the names of all the tables, views, stored procedure names in the particular database
Hi SQL server experts, I'm trying to restore from a backup file. I need to restore the datafile and logfile to different names. I modified the options page, changed the 'Restored As' file name. I clicked on the General page and Clicked on the Options page again, the old values came back. How do I handle this? Thanks in advance. Pingx
