Returning SqlDecimal With The Correct Scale

Jun 22, 2006

I have a UDF
using System;
using System.Data;
using System.Data.SqlClient;
using System.Data.SqlTypes;
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.Text;
using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;

public partial class UserDefinedFunctions
{
[SqlFunction(DataAccess = DataAccessKind.Read)]
public static SqlDecimal GetCustomPrice(SqlGuid Item_Key, SqlGuid Company_Key)
{
SqlDecimal retvalue = new SqlDecimal();
try
{
StringBuilder sqlstr = new StringBuilder();
sqlstr.Append("SELECT A.Price ");
sqlstr.Append("FROM Price A ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Link_Table B ");
sqlstr.Append("ON A.Price_Key = B.FKey ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Lookup C ");
sqlstr.Append("ON B.Lookup_Key = C.Lookup_Key ");
sqlstr.Append("AND C.Group_Name = 'Price_Type' ");
sqlstr.Append("AND C.Value = 'Custom' ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Item D ");
sqlstr.Append("ON B.PKey = D.Item_Key ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Link_Table E ");
sqlstr.Append("ON A.Price_Key = E.FKey ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Lookup F ");
sqlstr.Append("ON E.Lookup_Key = F.Lookup_Key ");
sqlstr.Append("AND F.Group_Name = 'Price_Type' ");
sqlstr.Append("AND F.Value = 'Custom' ");
sqlstr.Append("JOIN Company G ");
sqlstr.Append("ON E.PKey = G.Company_Key ");
sqlstr.Append("WHERE D.Item_Key = @Item_Key ");
sqlstr.Append("AND G.Company_Key = @Company_Key");
using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection("context connection=true;"))
{
conn.Open();
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sqlstr.ToString(), conn);
SqlDataAdapter adap = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
SqlParameter para = new SqlParameter();
para.ParameterName = "@Item_Key";
para.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier;
para.SqlValue = Item_Key;
cmd.Parameters.Add(para);
para = new SqlParameter();
para.ParameterName = "@Company_Key";
para.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.UniqueIdentifier;
para.SqlValue = Company_Key;
cmd.Parameters.Add(para);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
adap.Fill(ds);
if (ds.Tables.Count > 0)
{
if (ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count > 0)
{

retvalue = SqlDecimal.ConvertToPrecScale(new SqlDecimal((decimal)ds.Tables[0].Rows[0]["Price"]),12,3);
}
}
}
}
catch (Exception e)
{
throw e;
}
return SqlDecimal.ConvertToPrecScale(retvalue, 12, 3);
}
};

The value in the record is a decimal 12,3 which is 0.950 and when it is returned from this UDF it is 1. Using the debuger the value is 0.950 until it gets to the calling program were it
is 1. I have looked for an answer all over the place with not much luck Can anyone help I will be in their debt.

Thanks
Larry

Precision And Scale Of SqlDecimal Parameter To Stored Procedure

Feb 8, 2007

I am using SQL CLR Integration to create a series of stored procedures.

I am building and deploying from Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and everything is working well except for my stored procedures that have a SqlDecimal typed input argument. By default, the precision and scale of the SqlDecimal is deployed to SqlServer as (18,0).

How can I change this default?

This is an example of my stored procedure definition:

namespace Microsoft.Hurley.DataStore

{

public partial class StoredProcedures

{

[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure(Name = DB.PROC.TEST.INSERT)]

public static Int32 insertTest(out SqlInt16 cTestID, SqlInt16 cOrgID, SqlString cName, SqlDecimal cPassPercentage, SqlByte cNumberQuestionsToDisplay, SqlByte cMaxNumberAttempts, SqlBoolean cIsActive)

{

...

return returnValue;

}

}
}
From SQL Server after the procedure is deployed:

[dbo].[insertTest]

@cTestID [smallint] OUTPUT,

@cOrgID [smallint],

@cName [nvarchar](4000),

@cPassPercentage [numeric](18, 0),

@cNumberQuestionsToDisplay [tinyint],

@cMaxNumberAttempts [tinyint],

@cIsActive [bit]

Thanks!

Sql Query Not Returning Correct Results From Db

Feb 6, 2006

Hello.

I am new at SQL and am using SQL server express edition and im a bit stuck! I am using ASP.NET and C# in my website which is using sql database back end.

String SQLroom = "SELECT DISTINCT RoomName FROM Room INNER JOIN RoomCalendar ON Room.RoomID = RoomCalendar.RoomID WHERE Capacity = '" + reqCapacity + "' " + " AND NOT ('" + newRoomEnd + "' <= roomStartDateTime OR '" + newRoomStart + "' >= roomEndDateTime) AND (OHP = '" + ohpYesNo + "' AND AV = '" + avYesNo + "') ";

This is my SQL string... what it is trying to do is:

find the room
where the capacity is the reqcapacity entered by user
and the startdatetime and enddatetime entered by the user are not present in the table for that room capacity
and then look at whether the user requires OHP or AV facilities, which are stored in the database as either yes or no values.
The problem i am having is with the condition in the sql query... because the user may require an OHP and not AV, but then the room returned "`could" have AV facilities, as it wouldnt make a difference to them if it was there or not, basically, the yes condition has to be satisfied.

Not sure whether i should be using AND, or OR? or a combination.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated....

Sandy

SQL Server 2008 :: Spatial Data Not Returning Correct Distance

Apr 29, 2015

I have the two following locations.

They're both towns in Australia , State of Victoria

Fitzroy,-37.798701, 144.978687
Footscray,-37.799736, 144.899734

After running geography::Point(Latitude, Longitude , 4326) on the latitude and longitude provided for each location, my Geography column for each row is populated with the following:

Fitzroy, 0xE6100000010C292499D53BE642C0A7406667511F6240
Footscray, 0xE6100000010C89B7CEBF5DE642C02D23F59ECA1C6240

In my SQL Query, I have the following which works out the distance between both towns. Geo being my Geography column

DECLARE @s geography = 0xE6100000010C292499D53BE642C0A7406667511F6240 -- Fitzroy
DECLARE @t geography = 0xE6100000010C89B7CEBF5DE642C02D23F59ECA1C6240 -- Footscray
SELECT @s.STDistance(@t)

The result I get is

6954.44911927616

I then looked at formatting this as in Australia we go by KM so after some searching I found two solutions one for Miles and the other KM

So I changed Select statement to look like this

select @s.STDistance(@t)/1000 -- format to KM

My result is then

6.95444911927616

When I go to google maps and do a direction request between the locations provided above it says 10.2km (depending on traffic)

Now I'm new to this spatial data within SQL, why would I get a different result from google maps?

Also I would like to round this number so its easier to use within my where statement so I'm using Ceiling as shown here:

SELECT CEILING(@s.STDistance(@t)/1000)

Is ceiling the correct way to go?

Reason I need to round this is because we are allowing the end user to search by radius so if they pass in 50km I will then say

Where CEILING(@s.STDistance(@t)/1000) < 50

SqlDecimal Function Parameters With NULL Values

Oct 4, 2007

Hi,

I have a CLR function that throws an error if one of the parameters is NULL. Am I using the IsNullable tag correctly or am I supposed to do this another way? The function simply formats decimal values using .NET culture information and returns a string. Thanks very much for any help. -- Erik

[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction(IsDeterministic=true, DataAccess=DataAccessKind.None)]

[return: SqlFacet(MaxSize = 30, IsNullable=true)]

public static string FormatGeneralDecimal([SqlFacet(Precision = 28, Scale = 8, IsNullable = true)] SqlDecimal sqlDc,

[SqlFacet(MaxSize = 10)] string cultureName)

{

string result = null;

if (!sqlDc.IsNull)

{

CultureInfo ci = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(cultureName);

result = sqlDc.Value.ToString("G", ci);

}

return result;

}

It works great unless I call it with a NULL value for sqlDc, in which case I get this:

select [dbo].[FormatGeneralDecimal](NULL, 'de-DE')

Assocation Rules Mining Model : SqlDecimal Datatype Error

Dec 4, 2007

Hello Everyone. I am a newbie to data mining. I hope that you can help.

I have run the same data mining query against the Decision Tree, Logistical Regession, Neural Network and Assocation Rules mining models. I created seperate tables to contain the results of each of these models. All of the tables have the same structure. The structure is a col#1 with a bigint datatype and col#2 with a numeric(5,5) datatype. All of the models have been successful with outputing the data to their respective tables except the Association Rules model. I am receiving the following error: " Failed to execute data mining query due to the following error: The given value of type SqlDecimal from the data source cannot be converted to type decimal of the specified target column." Is there something special that I need to do with my dmx statement to get the sqldecimal data to insert into the numeric column? What is different about the Association Rules model? I rechecked my dmx statement and it is the same for other models.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Precision And Scale?

Nov 8, 2004

Hello,

I have been trying to develop an automatic way of programmatically accessing datasources and performing some predefined(-supported) processing on them.

The question I would like to ask you people has to do with numeric fields. What exactly is precision? Is it the maximum length in digits of a field, or is there more to it? What about a "field's scale", what is it and how does it affect a field's value handling?

Thank you very much,

Dave

Bar Chart Scale

Sep 7, 2007

Can you have different scales on a bar chart. I want to chart sales and quantity. Oracle lets you label the top of the bar chart as money and the bottom as quantity.

I am dividing my sales by one million and quantity by one thousand to make them similar in size on the same chart. I am using the sum of the sales/1000000 as a point label. Is there any way to limit the number of decimal places displayed. Currently it is displaying something like 1.94889312043; 1.95M would be better.

Thank you.

A SqlDataReader Is Returning An Int, When It Should Be Returning A Tinyint

Sep 25, 2007

I am opening a simple command against a view which joins 2 tables, so that I can return a column which is defined as a tinyint in one of the tables.  The SELECT looks like this:
 SELECT TreatmentStatus FROM vwReferralWithAdmissionDischarge WHERE ClientNumber = 138238 AND CaseNumber = 1 AND ProviderNumber = 89
 The TreatmentStatus column is a tinyint.  When I execute that above SQL SELECT statement in SQL Server Management Studio (I am using SQL Server 2005) I get a value of 2.  But when I execute the same SQL SELECT statement as a part of a SqlDataReader and SqlCommand, I get a return data type of integer and a value of 1.
Why?

Decimal Scale Overflow

Jun 27, 2001

This is not a real big deal, cause I worked around it.. but I just tried to INCREASE the scale on a decimal column & got an arithmatic overflow error. I can understand why this would occur if trying to decrease the scale, but not increasing it. This is not a computed column.. why does SQL give an overflow error if all it has to do is add a couple of zeros to the end? Yes, I know SQL considers them to be different data types, but this is still confusing me.

Scale Out Web Farm 401.1 - Unauthorized

Jan 18, 2008

Our topology:
Internal corporate network domain utilizing Integrated Windows Authentication between local workstations and the web and database servers. (domain similiar to: http://reports.ourdomain.com)

Machine #1: Windows 2003 Server w/SQL Server 2005 (SP2 and hotfixes applied) running SSRS.
Machine #2: Windows 2003 Server w/SSRS only. (pointing to the SQL DB on Machine #1)
Machine #3: Windows 2003 Server w/SSRS only. (pointing to the SQL DB on Machine #1)
Device #1: Arrowpoint load balancer for Machines #2 & #3 (w/sticky sessions).

We recently added 2 web servers and configured them to load balance the web requests to a seperate SQL Server machine. (the load balancing is done thru an Arrowpoint device not Microsoft NLB)

The installation of reporting services (on Machine #2 & #3) went smoothly and the configuration was a breeze. But we could not access the "http://reports.ourdomain.com/Reports" directory for reporting services on the 2 web server machines. We received the "401.1 - Unauthorized" http error.

Since we were using a domain name to access the report server we made sure to update the <URL> tag in the config files.

File location 1:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportManagerRSWebApplication.config

<ReportServerUrl>http://reports.ourdomain.com/ReportServer</ReportServerUrl>

File location 2:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.2Reporting ServicesReportServer
sreportserver.config

<UrlRoot>http://reports.ourdomain.com/reportserver</UrlRoot>

We still received the error, so then we added a couple of entries to the HOSTS file on each web server:
File location -->
C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetcHOSTS

In order for the load balancers to "see" themselves from the domain reference we had to update the HOSTS file
on each web server to have the domain name "reports.ourdomain.com" point to the IP Address of the specific web server.
(we also added the IP of Machine #1 just to be safe):

MACHINE #2's HOSTS file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.10.0.1 Machine1
10.10.0.2 reports.ourdomain.com #IP of Machine2

MACHINE #3's HOSTS file:
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.10.0.1 Machine1
10.10.0.3 reports.ourdomain.com #IP of Machine3

Then the web servers were able to authenticate the users using IWA and NTLM
and we could access the report servers normally. Even the the scheduled reports
were being load balanced and emailed from the web servers which we didn't
expect to happen. (pretty cool!)

I hope this helps someone else as it tooks us about 4 days to figure this out.

MS SQL For Large-scale Document Storage?

Oct 19, 2005

We're about to put together a db solution for storing and searching large quantities of documents, with SAS running on top of it. Ultimately this is going to be a data mining project. We're talking about 2 million docs per year, ranging from 1 to possibly hundreds of pages of text per doc. We'll be pulling down roughly 40,000 docs per week, most likely XML, HTML, or SGML format. The user base is actually pretty small - probably no more than 5.

My gut feeling is to go with DB2, but to be fair I wanted to see if SQL 2005 would be up to the task. I'm not very familiar with the current version, but I udnerstand there have been some big improvements in scalability. It is the policy of SAS not to make recommendations. Does this sound like something SQL 2005 could do well, or should I stick with my initial plan and use DB2?

How To Set MONEY Data-type To Scale 2

Is there a way to set a MONEY datatype to a scale (decimal places) of 2?
The default is set to 4 and I can't seem to find any resources on how to change it.

Do I have to add a check constraint to manually round to 2 decimals??
That seems unneccessary.... but if it is, boo-urns to sql server.

Report Services Scale Out Deployment.

Sep 5, 2007

I have a question about Report services scale out deployment.

In the technet document it states that reporting services must be Enterprise edition for scale out deployment functionality, does anyone know if the database engine has to be Enterprise also, or can it be standard edition?

Here is the article excerpt from technet:

The Reporting Services edition must be Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. Standard edition does not support a scale-out deployment. You can create a scale-out deployment using a combination of editions as long as the edition supports the scale-out feature.

Reduce Scale Of Floats To 4 Decimal Places From 16

Oct 17, 2001

I am working with an off the shelf app that controls decimal places through the application. All columns underlying the apps 'numeric' fields are floats. We are writing some scripts that need to compare numbers and some of them look like the second row

KELLYJ 2.1233
DONOVM 1.6000000000000001
OLSSON 15.3750

I have tried using round and cast. My examples work like the following:

SELECT 27.719999999

SELECT CAST(ROUND(27.719999999,4) AS DECIMAL(50,4))

When I try the same against a column to update the entire table it leaves the rows like above as longer to the right of the decimal point.

Any pointers on how to get these numbers back to 4 decimals places would be much appreciated

I was wondering if there was an issue with the same named instances on two different web servers accessing the same ReportServer01 database? This is the error that we are getting. Question On Scale-out Deployments And Routine Maintenance

Apr 22, 2008

We have a load-balanced Reporting Services installation that has two front-end machines that run IIS and the reporting services windows service, and a clustered Report Server database server. We have the front ends load balanced behind an F5. If we stop IIS on one of these servers, this traffic is easily and transparently directed to the other server.

My question is what happens if the Windows service on one of these servers is stopped? When Reporting Services is triggering subscription processing is it calling out to all machines it believes are a part of the scale-out deployment? So, if we install windows updates that require a reboot, is there a possibility that some of our subscription processing will be lost, or is RS smart enough to direct processing to the currently active node?

Reporting Services :: Line And Bar Chart With One Scale

Nov 12, 2015

Is there a possibility in SSRS to have  One stacked bar of cumulative sum of different ID's and and Line Chart at left hand of the Bar which will show the Progress as soon as the ID turn to Competed status.

I have been trying to do this , however there is huge problem of scaling:

The line should be finished at all the completed ID's SUM which is the lowest stack of the Bar.

However , the bar gets stretched to all of the space.

I have tried to place it into Tab lix, But it doesn't work.

Stored Procedure Returning 2 Result Sets - How Do I Stop The Procedure From Returning The First?

Jan 10, 2007

I hvae a stored procedure that has this at the end of it:
BEGIN
      EXEC @ActionID = ActionInsert '', @PackageID, @AnotherID, 0, ''
END
SET NOCOUNT OFF

SELECT Something
FROM Something
Joins…..
Where Something = Something
now, ActionInsert returns a Value, and has a SELECT @ActionID at the end of the stored procedure.
What's happening, if that 2nd line that I pasted gets called, 2 result sets are being returned. How can I modify this SToredProcedure to stop returning the result set from ActionINsert?
