Returning Recordset That Includes A DateDiff Field In Hh:mm:ss Format?
Jul 20, 2005
Hi, not too swift with anything other than simple SQL statements, so
I'm looking for some help.
Using SQL Server 2000 with this stored proc:
(@varCust varchar(50))
AS
SET NOCOUNT ON
SELECT d.WorkOrder, d.Customer, d.SerialNo, d.Assy, d.Station,
d.WIdoc,
d.Start, d.StartUser, d.Finish, d.FinishUser
FROM tblWorkOrder w, tblDocs d
WHERE w.WorkOrder IS NULL AND w.WorkOrder = d.WorkOrder AND
d.Customer = @varCust
GO
I'm trying to get a complete dataset so I can simply apply it as the
datasource to a datagrid in asp.net. I need to include a 'TimeSpan'
column that is the difference between d.Start and d.Finish. I also
need it to present in hh:mm:ss format in the datagrid column. (A) is
it possible to do this within the stored proc, and (B) how would "I"
do that?
Thanks!
Kathy

I have a form with two date fields that the user will submit their requested vacation time off with. When they insert it, I am trying to say find the difference between the request_start_date and request_end_date in days MINUS any of the days they would already have off like weekends or holidays that are included in another table. Everything inserts okay, but I am getting null for the request_duration. If I put dates in quotes and run the query it comes back with the right results. If I put the dates in the form and submit it, I get Null for the request_duration. Thank you in advnace for any help on this! INSERTrequest

I need to return a rowset from a stored procedure. The returned rows will have ten columns and need to be bound to a gridview. Here is a code snippet.
'Create a DataAdapter, and then provide the name of the stored procedure.MyDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter("TMPTABLE_QUERY", MyConnection)
'Set the command type as StoredProcedure.
MyDataAdapter.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
'Create and add a parameter to Parameters collection for the stored procedure.MyDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@condition_cl", _
SqlDbType.VarChar, 100))
'Assign the search value to the parameter.MyDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Parameters("@condition_cl").Value = sqlwhere & orderby
'ASSIGN THE OUTPUT PARAMETERS. HERE IS WHERE I NEED HELP (?????????????????)
DS = New DataSet() 'Create a new DataSet to hold the records.
MyDataAdapter.Fill(DS, "TMPTABLE_QUERY") 'Fill the DataSet with the rows returned.
'Set the data source for the DataGrid as the DataSet that holds the rows.GridView1.DataSource = DS.Tables("TMPTABLE_QUERY").DefaultView
GridView1.DataBind()
MyDataAdapter.Dispose() 'Dispose of the DataAdapter.
MyConnection.Close()
In my little research, I have seen examples of how to return a single value, but not multiple rows. I essentially have two problems. I'm not sure how my output parameters are to be defined and added. Do I need a separate 'Parameters.Add' statement for each column field value returned or can I do a single 'Parameters.Add' statement to define the whole row as an output parameter? Also, upon returning from the call to the SP, will I need a looping mechanism to populate the recordset for each individual record returned, or will the 'MyDataAdapter.Fill(DS, "TMPTABLE_QUERY") suffice, as included in my code above?
Thanks in advance.

HELP HELP HELP!!
I have two questions.
I'm using VB 6.0 with ADO to SQL 7.0. My stored procedure works fine with Query Analyzer. I pass one parameter.
sp_test "1234"
And I get a recordset returned.
The stored procedure looks like this:
CREATE PROCEDURE sp_test
@facility_key varchar(255) = null
AS
/*DECLARE @sql1 varchar(255)*/
SELECT * FROM v_reimbursement_report
WHERE facility_key = @facility_key
/*IF @facility_key <> null
PRINT "0"
BEGIN
SELECT * FROM v_reimbursement_report
WHERE facility_key = @facility_key
END*/
When I uncomment the commented lines, I can still get a recordset returned using the query analyzer. And I get the same recordset returned when I use VB ADO and leave the stored proc lines commented out. However, when I call the procedure using the same VB code with the stored proc lines uncommented, I get -1 returned for rs.recordcount:
Private Sub Main_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Main
Dim lsFacility As String
Dim lsReportName As String
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Dim cmd As ADODB.Command
Dim gconn As ADODB.Connection
Dim param_facility_key As ADODB.Parameter
Dim gConnString As String
gConnString = "Trusted_Connection=Yes;UID=sa;PWD=yoyo;DATABASE=y ada;SERVER=ya;Network=dbnmpntw;Address=ya;DRIVER={ SQL Server};DSN=''"
Set gconn = New ADODB.Connection
Set rs = New ADODB.Recordset
Set cmd = New ADODB.Command
gconn.Open gConnString
cmd.Parameters.Refresh
lsFacility = "1234"
Set param_facility_key = cmd.CreateParameter("facility_key", adVarChar, adParamInput, 255)
cmd.Parameters.Append param_facility_key
param_facility_key.Value = lsFacility
cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
cmd.CommandText = "sp_reimbursement_report_test"
cmd.Name = "sp_reimbursement_report_test"
Set cmd.ActiveConnection = gconn
rs.Open cmd, , adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic
MsgBox rs.RecordCount
Exit_Main:
Screen.MousePointer = vbNormal
gconn.Close
rs.Close
Exit Sub
Err_Main:
Screen.MousePointer = vbNormal
MsgBox "Error " & Err.Number & " has occurred: " & Err.Description
End Sub
Here are my questions:
1. Why don't I get a recordset returned to VB if I have anything (the commented lines) except a simple SELECT statement in the stored proc.
2. Why must I do a Print "0" (or anything) command in the stored procedure within the IF statement to see a recordset return?
TIA for any help you can give....this one has been keeping me up....and my company down.

Dear all,
I have a big problem in using SQL Server stored procedures:
When I have two select statement in the same procedure, the first one will use for returning specific information for the second one to select appropiate result to the client, but the stored procedure just return the first select statement recordset! What can I do? (I use VB Data Environment to access the stored procedures)

Is there a server variable which will tell me how long the server took in returning a particular recordset. I've looked through MSDN SQL 2000 articles and could'nt / did'nt see anything. Or perhaps there is another way? Thanks!

The stored procedure I created returns all records from the table if no parameters are passed, as expected. When I pass in the only parameter, I get 0 records returned when there should be one or more returned. I'm sure it's something simple in my syntax, but I don't see it.
This call returns all records:
exec webservices_BENEFICIAL_USES_DM_SELECT
This call returns 0 records, when it should return 1:
exec webservices_BENEFICIAL_USES_DM_SELECT @DISPOSAL_AREA_NAME='Cell 8'
Here is the stored procedure:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[webservices_BENEFICIAL_USES_DM_SELECT]
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@DISPOSAL_AREA_NAME DISPOSAL_AREA_NAME_TYPE = NULL
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
-- Insert statements for procedure here
IF @DISPOSAL_AREA_NAME IS NULL
BEGIN
SELECT*
FROMBENEFICIAL_USES_DM
END
ELSE
BEGIN
SELECT*
FROMBENEFICIAL_USES_DM
WHEREDISPOSAL_AREA_NAME = '@DISPOSAL_AREA_NAME'
END

Hi All. My question is this. I have a complex stored procedure in SQLServer which works fine when I run it in Query Analyzer. However, whenI call it within my ASP script, it returns nothing, and sometimes locksup. If I change my script to call other existing stored procedures itworks fine. It's just with this particular stored proc. I have triedvarious DB calls in ASP, such as opening the recordset through an ADOconnection and through the Command object but to no avail. Can anybody tell me why a) when running a stored proc from an asp page toreturn a recordset the command succeeds if the sp queries an existing tabledirectly, but b) if the stored proc populates results into a differenttable, temporary table, global temp table, or table variable, then queriesone of these, the asp page reports that the recordset object is closed. Ifusing a table, I have set grant, select, update, delete permissions for theasp page user account, so it doesn't appear to be a permissioning issue. Ifrun in Query Analyser the sp runs fine of course.Abridged asp code is as follows:StoredProc = Request.querystring("SP")oConn.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB etc"oConn.Openset oCmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")oCmd.ActiveConnection = oConnoCmd.CommandText = StoredProcoCmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProcoCmd.Parameters.Refresh'code here that populates the parameters of the oCmd object correctlySet oRs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")With oRS.CursorLocation = adUseClient.CursorType = adOpenStatic.LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic'execute the SP returning the result into a recordset.Open oCmdEnd With' Save data into IIS response objectResponse.ContentType = "text/xml"oRs.Save Response, adPersistXML'the line above fails with stored procs from example B below, reporting "notallowed when object is closed", but works with example ASP Example A - this one works fineCreate Proc spTestA ASSELECT ID FROM FileListGOSP Example B - this one doesn't work from ASP but runs fine in QACreate Proc spTestB ASDECLARE @Results Table (ID TinyInt)INSERT INTO @Results SELECT ID FROM FileListSELECT ID FROM @ResultsGOI can see the SP executing using profiler when the asp page is called forboth sp's above, so it doesn't appear to be a problem with the execution.It's something to do with returning the result set from the table variable.Thanks,Robin Hammond

I'm having trouble getting a recordset out of stored procedure in ADO. The SP executes without errors, but the recordset object I return into is always closed.Here is my code:
<%
......
Set cmm = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
Set cmm.ActiveConnection = Connect
cmm.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
cmm.CommandText = "dbo.client_updates_proc"
cmm.Parameters.Refresh
cmm.Parameters(1) = client_id
Set logRS = cmm.Execute()
if not logRS.EOF then
......
%>
My SP has one parameter, which I set above, and it ends with a select statement. When I run the SP in Query Analyzer, it outputs the table of results as is should, but I always get an error on 'if logRS.EOF then', saying that the object is closed.

Hello I'm newbie to SQL Server and I have a problem that I'm having dificult to solte. I have 2 tables one called st and another called inventario. Both have a field named ref. but st.ref have a data like 00222 and the inventario.ref have only 222. I want to test in a query a think like this :
Select * from inventarios where ref in(select ref from st)
It gives me less results because it only identifyes the correct data and escape the ones that have 00 or 000 before the number. My question is if the any way to make this query but instead of equal, if it's possible to use some thing that compares this 2 fields, like field that includes the content of another field.
Thanks in advance.

I have two dates '2014-25-03 01:02:03' & '2014-26-03 01:02:03' (yyyyddmm).
I need the difference between two dates in hh:mm:ss format.
I tried following query
declare @mindate datetime='2014-03-25 01:02:03'
declare @maxdate datetime='2014-03-26 02:03:04'
select cast(
(cast(cast(@maxDate as float) - cast(@minDate as float) as int) * 24) /* hours over 24 */
+ datepart(hh, @maxDate - @minDate) /* hours */
as varchar(10))
+ ':' + right('0' + cast(datepart(mi, @maxDate - @minDate) as varchar(2)), 2) /* minutes */
+ ':' + right('0' + cast(datepart(ss, @maxDate - @minDate) as varchar(2)), 2) /* seconds */
This works fine but as you can see the date I have used in the query is in yyyymmdd format.
The query does not work with yyyyddmm format
The expected answer is =25:01:01.

Following is the query that I'm running:
create table a (id int, name varchar(10));
create table b(id int, sal int);
insert into a values(1,'John'),(1,'ken'),(2,'paul');
insert into b values(1,400),(1,500);
select *
from a
cross apply( select max(sal) as sal from b where b.id = a.id)b;
Below is the result for the same:
idname sal
1John500
1ken500
2paulNULL
Now I'm not sure why the record with ID 2 is coming using CROSS APPLY, shouldn't it be avoided in case of CROSS APPLY and only displayed when using OUTER APPLY.
One thing that I noticed was that if you remove the Aggregate function MAX then the record with ID 2 is not shown in the output. I'm running this query on SQL Server 2012.

Hey Everyone, I have what seems to be a unique problem, which I am not sure if it is an ASP problem or an SQL Server issue. I'm making a website that pulls its content from ntext fields within SQL Server 2000. Heres my problem, when I pull the data into the page it cuts off the text from the field at a certain spot. I pulled the data into a variable and did some tests on it, if I run length on it I get 1023 and also if I run length on just the recordset field I also get 1023. But if I check the SIZE of the recordset I get a return of 2046. I have had this problem before with an Access database as well but it seems as if the amount of characters that it cut off at with the access database was in the 200's. I've self taught myself ASP so this could very easily be something I have missed. Same for both Access and SQL Server.

I want to add a record and then get the automatically generated identifier(ReqChildID in this case). Is there a better way? Why won't this one work.
This is what I have:
rsRec.AddNew
rsRec("RequisitionID") = intReqNum
rsRec("CreatedBy") = cint(session("empno"))
rsRec("DateCreated") = Now
rsRec.Update
intItemId = rsRec("ReqChildID")
rsRec.Close
Forgive me if this has already been posted, but I couldn't find it.
[edit to add:]
rsRec is an ADODB.Recordset in case that wasn't clear.

Hello!
I have 2 tables, one that contains a set of codes and their definitions, and another where each record has a field that contains several of these codes separated by commas:
Tab1
SubCode | Definition
---------------
S100 | Def of S100
S101 | Def of S101
S102 | Def of S102
Tab2
DepID | Purpcode |SubCodes
-----------------------------
1 | P100 | S100,S101,S102
1 | P101 | S100, S101
2 | P101 | S100,S102
I'm trying to create a query against Tab1 so that it retrieves a recordset of Subcodes and definitions based on the contents of the Subcodes field for a record in Tab2. I've tried this using a subquery, as follows:
SELECT SubCode ,Definition
FROM Tab1
WHERE SubjectCode IN
(SELECT CHAR(39) + REPLACE(SubjectCodes, CHAR(44), CHAR(39 + CHAR(44)+ CHAR(39)) + CHAR(39)
FROM Tab2
WHERE DepID = 1 AND PurposeCode = 'P101')
The subquery will return: 'S100','S101' and I expect the final recordset to be:
SubCode | Definition
---------------
S100 | Def of S100
S101 | Def of S101
However, it's not returning any records. If I execute the subquery separately and then plug its results into the main query e.g.
SELECT SubCode ,Definition
FROM Tab1
WHERE SubjectCode IN ('S100','S101')
it returns the expected recordset. Does anyone have any pointers? It's driving me nuts..
Cheers
Greg

And this is the syntax I use to get the count I am after
Code:

DECLARE @FieldCount int

I have an asp page with some simple vbscript to add a record to a table, the record has a datefield (dob).
the insert results in a US formated date if I add a record to a dynamic recordset but a UK formated date if I insert direct to the table ?????

Hi all,
I have a simple query like this:
SELECT crop, ItemNo, LotNo, Site, Process, IntID, ObsDetail, ObsValue,
(CASE WHEN (rtrim(crop) = '010' OR
rtrim(crop) = '010W' OR
rtrim(crop) = '019' OR
rtrim(crop) = '019W' OR
rtrim(crop) = '018') THEN 'CORN' WHEN (rtrim(crop) = '0150' OR
rtrim(crop) = '0159' OR
rtrim(crop) = '0150W' OR
rtrim(crop) = '159W' OR
rtrim(crop) = '158') THEN 'RICE' ELSE '' END) AS Product, TestStartDate, TestEndDate, ObsString
FROM V_LAB
WHERE (LotNo >= @lotStart) AND (LotNo <= @lotEnd)
If I run this query and filled the lotStart and lotEnd parameter with: G0424MK
Then, below's the data returned. (I run the query in management studio)
010W
30A97-CLN-UNT-BULK
G0424MK
IDPMLG01
AFTER CLEANER
4982
PRCT MOIST
10.35
CORN
NULL
010W
30A97-CLN-UNT-BULK
G0424MK
IDPMLG01
AFTER CLEANER
4982
PRCT GOOD
97.5
CORN
NULL
010W
30A97-CLN-UNT-BULK
G0424MK
IDPMLG01
AFTER CLEANER
4982
PRCENTMEAN
97.75
CORN
NULL
I'd only going to retrive 3 data that i'd like to show on the report:
1. Moisture Content, with formula:
=IIf(RTRIM(Fields!ObsDetail.Value) = "PRCT MOIST", Fields!ObsValue.Value, cdec(0.00))
the ObsValue value after i run on the report preview with LotStart and LotEnd G0424MK is: 10.35 (this is correct)
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2. Physical Damage, with formula:
=Iif(rtrim(Fields!ObsDetail.Value) = "PRCT GOOD", Fields!ObsValue.Value, cdec(0.00))
the ObsValue value after i run on the report preview with LotStart and LotEnd G0424MK sebesar: 97.50 (this is correct)
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3. Warm Test, with formula:
=Iif(rtrim(Fields!ObsDetail.Value) = "PRCENTMEAN", Fields!ObsValue.Value, cdec(0.00))
the ObsValue value after i run on the report preview with LotStart and LotEnd G0424MK sebesar: 0.00 (this is wrong) because it should be shown 97.75
anybody knows which part i made my mistake?
Thanks!

Hello, I have a C# application that adds records to a SQL Server database using a query something like this one:
INSERT INTO table_name
(first_name, last_name, date_added) ('john', 'smith', '1/1/2005 12:00:00pm') ;
SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() AS [Scope_Identity]
This works fine unless there's already a John Smith in the database. When that happens, Scope_Identity is null even though the date_added is different. About half the time the record is added even though Scope_Identity is null. I've added code to notify me when this happens, but it's a pain in the neck to re-run my import utility for individual records.
(The table I'm adding to does have a autonumbered key field)
Thanks in advance!

Hi there ;
This Problem is goin to make me crazy!
I've got a table with couple of fields, 2 of them are DateTime, in Sql Express 05 .
I used asp.net 2.0 to insert datetime values, directly, using sth like DateTime.Now.ToString() .
i use 2 selects as follows :
1)select * from X where Date1='8/9/2006 11:17:41 AM'
2)select * from X where Date2='8/9/2006 11:17:41 AM'
#1 is OK, but the second one returns a row with all columns set to NULL .
(X is the name of the table)
Thanks in advance

We currently have an SQL db running on a web server.One of these fields is a large(ish) amount of text data – up to 400characters – and has been cast variously as varchar, nchar and texttype to overcome a problem. The problem appears to be in retrievingthe data via ASP. I understand that ASP can handle string data of thissize so I am okay there.When the records are retrieved from the db, the data string length =0.I know the data is there because I have written a Delphi data managerwhich interrogates the db and shows all records and their contents.So if ASP can handle strings this size and the data is there, why do Iget a data length of zero bytes returned when I interrogate the recordset?Whichever way I cast this field I get the same result.I know the code is sound as it works locally through a MS SQL serveron my PS.Anyone have this problem or know what's causing it? I have logged asupport call with my hosting company, but they haven't replied as yetand I am stuck on an urgent project.Any suggestions?CheersGrant

I have a .NET program that can connect to either an Access 97 database or anSQL Server 7 database. In the database I have two tables which have a fieldcalled ID. When I run a query like "SELECT A.*, B.* FROM A, B", the queryreturns those fields as "A.ID" and "B.ID" when connected to Access 97, butas "ID" and "ID" in SQL Server 7. Is there anyway to get SQL Server toprepend the table name to the field name in a case like this and not returnduplicate field names like that without having to specify aliases for thefields?- Don

I have the following query:
Select p.Id [SenderId], p.Username, up.PhotoId,
CASE
WHEN mr.ReadDate is null then 1 -- New message
ELSE 0 -- Message has been read
END AS NewMessage,
p.LastLoggedIn, p.LoggedIn
[Code] ....
The above query returns me all messages (inbox functionality) that have been sent to mr.ReceipientId, the issue I have is when I send another email to the recipient the readdate field will be null, and the other emails linked to the recipient which have also been sent via me will have a readdate date. This causes duplicate rows to appear due to the case statement, I'm trying to figure out if / how it is possible to only display the one row per conversation and set newmessage to 1 if there is an un-read message otherwise show 0 ?
So instead of showing this:
2Person102015-07-26 17:07:24.9370
2Person112015-07-26 17:07:24.9370
I'm trying to get it to look like this:
2Person112015-07-26 17:07:24.9370
Or if we have no new mail (read date is not null) then it will appear like this, and I can confirm when there is no new mail it works as expected.
2Person102015-07-26 17:07:24.9370

Hi,comming from php/mysql some things here on this side are great - but some seems to be solved in a way I can not figure out.What I need is a way to get a string in the format "yyyy-mm" out of a date-time field like:09/05/2006 23:12:36   should produce    2006-09    as one stringWhat I figured out by my own is: SELECT { fn CONCAT({ fn CONCAT(DATENAME(yyyy, dateField), '-') }, STR(DATEPART(mm, dateField))) }, ...but this returns "2006-    9" with blanks in it. Or I could use 2 times the DATENAME but this would give 2006-September.Would it help to use a stored procedure?Thanks,Klaus

Hi,
I have a table with datetime field in SQL server 7.0
I have inserted values into datetime field
for eg: '10/10/99'
'10/10/99 10:30 AM'
'11/10/99 11:50 PM'
When I view this table from enterprise manager, values are shown exactly
in the same format I have entered.
But, When I run the query from Query Analyzer, It always shows values in the following format '1999-10-10 00:00:00.000'
Is there a way that I can see the values in the same format I have entered.
Help !!!
Thanks
