Hi Guys,
We are using MS SQL 2005. I am ask to remove the PUBLIC rights to the objects listed in the following query in the master DB:
SELECT sysusers.name, sysobjects.name,sysprotects.action FROM sysobjects, sysusers, sysprotects WHERE sysobjects.id = sysprotects.id AND sysprotects.uid = sysusers.uid AND sysprotects.protecttype = 205
I keep having the "Cannot find the object [Objectname], because it does not exists or you do not have permission."
How do I create a query to remove the PUBLIC rights at a single run. (There are total of 1660 items, please dun ask me to write the DENY or REVOKE statement 1660 time )
How do I DENY the rights for objects starting with the prefix "dm_" or items like "TABLE PRIVILEGES"
Thanks guys Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
We have a stored proc to send email in the MSDB database.
It works when processed in Query Analyzer.
In the app it gives us a permission error.
When I right click on the sp to give security, I do not see properties.
How do I give security to this stored proc?
Thanks
I have written an stored proc that reads from a text file and executesthe script as dynamic sql.If the text file contains malicious code,I want to be able to detect itand prevent the stored procedure from executing.I've tried revoking delete, insert, update rights all tables in thedatabase to the user .I then granted execute rights to the stored procedure for the sameuser. But the user is still able to delete a record from the table byexecuting the stored procedure. Is there any means to I revoke, insert, delete ,update rights to a storedproc?

When I deploy/import my SSIS packages which should it go under? Is there a difference and if so what the difference?

This is terrible thing to happed at 4:30 pm on Friday!
I was working yesterday on some of deployment packages using file system (by the way, my msdb can not expand )
and just an hour ago I wanted to try some parent child deployment using file system.
but,
The only two folders I see in Integration services are Running Packages and Stored Packages. Nothing under those ones...
I have checked default location for File System (C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackages) and there are three packages there but these do not show in IServices.
And another question, if I execute package by double clicking on .dstx file should that make it show under File System?
thanks
I am working with a large application and am trying to track down a bug. I believe an error that occurs in the stored procedure isbubbling back up to the application and is causing the application not to run. Don't ask why, but we do not have some of the sourcecode that was used to build the application, so I am not able to trace into the code.
So basically I want to examine the stored procedure. If I run the stored procedure through Query Analyzer, I get the following error message:
Msg 2758, Level 16, State 1, Procedure GetPortalSettings, Line 74RAISERROR could not locate entry for error 60002 in sysmessages.
(1 row(s) affected)
(1 row(s) affected)
I don't know if the error message is sufficient enough to cause the application from not running? Does anyone know? If the RAISERROR occursmdiway through the stored procedure, does the stored procedure terminate execution?
Also, Is there a way to trace into a stored procedure through Query Analyzer?
-------------------------------------------As a side note, below is a small portion of my stored proc where the error is being raised:
SELECT @PortalPermissionValue = isnull(max(PermissionValue),0)FROM Permission, PermissionType, #GroupsWHERE Permission.ResourceId = @PortalIdAND Permission.PartyId = #Groups.PartyIdAND Permission.PermissionTypeId = PermissionType.PermissionTypeId
IF @PortalPermissionValue = 0BEGIN RAISERROR (60002, 16, 1) return -3END
I have been researching on how to cleanup four backup system files located in the MSDB database. I currently have approximately 1 million rows in each of these tables which is making my MSDB database to be 4 gig in size. I cannot find any instructions on how to gracefully clean these tables up or what to do to keep the number of rows down in these tables. The tables are backupfile, backupmediafamily, backupmediaset, and backupset. Thanks.

I am having trouble executing a stored procedure on a remote server. On my
local server, I have a linked server setup as follows:
Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563
This works fine on my local server:
Select * From [Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563].DatabaseName.dbo.TableName
This does not work (Attempting to execute a remote stored proc named 'Data_Add':
Exec [Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563].DatabaseName.Data_Add 1,'Hello Moto'
When I attempt to run the above, I get the following error:
Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database 'Server1.abcd.myserver.comSQLServer2005,1563'.
No entry found with that name. Make sure that the name is entered correctly.
Could anyone shed some light on what I need to do to get this to work?
Thanks - Amos.
Hi All,Quick question, I have always heard it best practice to check for exist, ifso, drop, then create the proc. I just wanted to know why that's a bestpractice. I am trying to put that theory in place at my work, but they areasking for a good reason to do this before actually implementing. All Icould think of was that so when you're creating a proc you won't get anerror if the procedure already exists, but doesn't it also have to do withCompilation and perhaps Execution. Does anyone have a good argument fordoing stored procs this way? All feedback is appreciated.TIA,~CK
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ASP that has been working fine for several months, but itsuddenly broke. I wonder if windows update has installed some securitypatch that is causing it.The problem is that I am calling a stored procedure via an ASP(classic, not .NET) , but nothing happens. The procedure doesn't work, and I don't get any error messages.I've tried dropping and re-creating the user and permissions, to noavail. If it was a permissions problem, there would be an errormessage. I trace the calls in Profiler, and it has no complaints. Thedatabase is getting the stored proc call.I finally got it to work again, but this is not a viable solution forour production environment:1. response.write the SQL call to the stored procedure from the ASPand copy the text to the clipboard.2. log in to QueryAnalyzer using the same user as used by the ASP.3. paste and run the SQL call to the stored proc in query analyzer. After I have done this, it not only works in Query Analyzer, but thenthe ASP works too. It continues to work, even after I reboot themachine. This is truly bizzare and has us stumped. My hunch is thatwindows update installed something that has created this issue, but Ihave not been able to track it down.

Hi all
I have about 5 stored procedures that, among other things, execute exactly the same SELECT statement
Instead of copying the SELECT statement 5 times, I'd like each stored proc to call a single stored proc that executes the SELECT statement and returns the resultset to the calling stored proc
The SELECT statement in question retrieves a single row from a table containing 10 columns.
Is there a way for a stored proc to call another stored proc and gain access to the resultset of the called stored proc?
I know about stored proc return values and about output parameters, but I think I am looking for something different.
Thanks
I would like to know if the following is possible/permissible:
myCLRstoredproc (or some C# stored proc)
{
//call some T SQL stored procedure spSQL and get the result set here to work with
INSERT INTO #tmpCLR EXECUTE spSQL
}
spSQL
(
INSERT INTO #tmpABC EXECUTE spSQL2
)
spSQL2
(
// some other t-sql stored proc
)
Can we do that? I know that doing this in SQL server would throw (nested EXECUTE not allowed). I dont want to go re-writing the spSQL in C# again, I just want to get whatever spSQL returns and then work with the result set to do row-level computations, thereby avoiding to use cursors in spSQL.
I created a package using the ImportExport wizard and saved it to the local Sql server. Under Management Studio I can see the package, can run in, import it, export it BUT how am I supposed to edit (modify the thing) it?
TIA,

View 4 Replies View RelatedAll,
Here is my problem, its very simple, But I dont have a solution.
To run / import / what ever I else I forgot (?) SSIS in SQL SERVER, what are permissions I'll need.
So far I have developed everything in BIDS, when I try to migrate it to a sql server by using Import package in Integration Services I got the below error.
TITLE: Import Package
------------------------------
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_dts_listpackages', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_dts_listpackages', database 'msdb', schema 'dbo'. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)
The error is very clear in itself, While I have raised a request for the execute permission of this stored procedure, i also like to know what kind of permissions I will need in MSDB to work with out any problems. So that I dont have to go to DBA for execute permission for each error I may get for this.Right now I dont have execute permission on any of the Stored Procs in MSDB.
If any body can show any pointers that would be help full.
Which tool is used to maintain packages stored in the MSDB. Do you have to export them as file based to edit them?

Moreover, I get the same error even when connecting locally.
any ideas?
I've just installed sql 2005x64 and sp2 on a active/passive cluster on 2003. Everything is working fine except browsing the stored msdb packages in SSIS. Remote acces is enabled - as are named pipes.
