Rich Text Support

Nov 20, 2007

This question has been asked a lot, without a definitive answer. Can you tell me if SQL Server 2008 will support rich text. I believe the November CTP does not have this functionality. It is a pretty important decision regarding my organization's adoption of the new product.
Thank you
Jason

Rich Text Field

Aug 4, 2006

I currently have a simple project where we need to store paragraphs for letters that will be automatically printed and then mailed to cusomters. These letters will be created based on certain criteria.

I have the SQL database set up with two fields...the paragraphCode (which is the key) and then the paragraph. These paragraphs were originally created in Word and some of these paragraphs contain bulleting and other rich text features. I have built a small utility in ASP (using VB .Net) for our intranet to view / insert / edit these paragraphs. If a user is copying and pasting the paragraph from a Word document, what should this paragraph field's datatype be declare as? It is currently NVARCHAR(MAX).

Thanks for the information

Datatypes That Preserve Rich Text

Feb 1, 2007

Hey there - I have a textbox (C# 1.1 OR 2.0) that I want to take it's contents and post to a datatype of some sort in SQL2k5 and have it preserve the breaks (return keystrokes) so when the data is presented, it can hold a paragraph form. Is this possible?something like this: <asp:TextBox id="txtContent" runat="server" TextMode="MultiLine" Rows="10"></asp:TextBox>Right now, I'm using nvarchar(4000) as the datatype but if I were to type, say 3 paragraphs, the data returned in the datagrid I bind that data to shows only one long string of data. For the time being, I have been puttting HTML formatting tags in the content I'm posting to the DB, but ultimately don't want to have to do that. I don't want to have to use a Text Editor (like FTB or FCKeditor) if necessary because they seem very much involved for the simple need I have which is to preserve paragraph formatting. So, is there another datatype in SQL2k5 that I should be using? Or are there simple code snippets I can utilize that will recognize a carriage return as a </p><p> tag?I'm trying to migrate to 2.0 as much as possible, so any C# code would be greatly appreciated in 2.0!Thanks for your help!iSheahan

Create Rich Text From A Select And Save It In A Field

Jun 28, 2007

Hi,
I want to execute some queries inside a stored procedure, get the data and create from them some strings with formatted parts (bold, italic, underline, different color fonts) and save them in a text field. These strings are going to be displayed in some DBRichText control in a database application built with Delphi. Is there an easy way to create these complex rtf formats in MSSQL
or some ideas regarding this problem?

SSRS Newbie - How To Display Rich Text In A Report

Aug 21, 2007

Hi

(Note when I say "rich" text I don't specifically mean rich text, I'm refering to text with user defined bold, italic, numbered lists, colors, fonts, etc.)

We have a (new) system where we want a user to enter "rich" text notes into a single column using an editor embedded in our application (much like the editor I'm using for this forum) and have the notes displayed correctly in SSRS reports. We were thinking of storing the notes as HTML but I've just tried it and the report displays the whole HTML string, rather than marking up the text.

We are open to marking up the text using any mechanism, rich text, HTML, Word, etc. just as long as we can see it in the reports.

We also need to consider viewing the same notes via Crystal reports.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Michael

How To Add Underline To End Of Expression Text In Textbox?

Aug 17, 2007

In SQL Reporting Services - How can you configure a textbox (in a table row/cell) to display (and more importantly print to hard copy) an underline area that is "appended" to the end of variable length text. The objective is to be able to print out a form with an identified area for handwritten text entry. I need the underlined area for the textbox to be "right aligned". For example,

Customer Satisfaction
Were you satisfied with the service(s) received? _________________________________________
How long did the service call take? ____________________________________________________
Would you recommend us to your friends? _____________________________________________

Is this possible? How can I do this?
Thx!

How Do You Write Text Upside Down In A Textbox On A SSRS Report?

Dec 27, 2007

I found this thread which allows me to write vertical from the bottom up but I want to flip the text 180 degrees and write it upside down:

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=559933&SiteID=1

I tried modifying it and playing around with the TranslateTranform function but I'm really confused on how it works. I can get the first letter in my text to be upside down but the rest is not showing up. It's like it's being cut off or something. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advanced.

Reporting Services :: Show Text And Embedded Image In SSRS TextBox

Oct 7, 2015

I'm developing an SSRS report using VS2013 Premium with SSDT - BI v12.0.2430.0. SSRS is hosted on a SQL 2014 instance. The underlying database table has a varchar(max) field which stores text and embedded image data from a third-party application.  I can extract this text, save it as an html file and open that in a browser.  It renders complete with any embedded image.Meanwhile, the report textbox has its Placeholder Properties, Markup type set to HTML.  Yet when I run the report, the text is displayed but any embedded image is not.Is there any approach I can take, perhaps transforming the varchar(max) data to another format in the query for my dataset, that can show the text and any embedded image in my report?  Or is it that the TextBox control is limited, not unreasonably, to text only?  If so, is there another control I could use, perhaps custom or third-party?

Log Shipping Question - The Big Picture

Apr 24, 2003

I need some advice about the best way to setup log shipping in conjunction with full backups and other system maint. such as DBCC's. I'd like to know what others are doing.

What is your schedule, 24/7, other?
When do you take full backups of the databases? Do you restore these backups to the destination server then startup log shipping again?

I considered doing log ship from 7:00 - 19:00. Then do a full backup at 19:30 that is restored to the destination server. I understand that your schedule may vary due to app. requirements.

I found plenty of info. about the mechanics of setting up log ship but nothing from a broader perspective. If you know of an article that I can reference please pass that on as well.

Sending An Image/Picture Using SSB

Sep 18, 2007

I'v been looking for a sample that illustrate how to send an Image(jpeg/gif/bmp) using SSB. The initiating client should pick an image stored locally on a folder in that machine and send it over to the target broker instance using TCP. The target should verify the contents of the message and then insert the image in a table, which i assume should have a column of type varbinary(max).

Any help would be appreciated.
