Root Element MIssing && For Security Reasons DTD Is Prohibited In This XML Document

Aug 10, 2007

This error comes up in the print preview and nothing prints.

We are using VS-2005, SQL 2005 and SSRS 2005.

We had the same problem yesterday , so we have reinstalled IIS, .Net Framework 2.0 and Reporting Services, then reconfigured RS security, uploaded all the reports and enabled remote errors. After doing everything this error was gone and we were operating pretty fine.

Suddenly just we started getting the same annoying message."ROOT ELEMENT MISSING" from Report Server and from Report Manager we have "
For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method. "

Please Help. I need to fix this ASAP.

For Security Reasons DTD Is Prohibited In This XML Document

Oct 9, 2007

After viewing many reports in reportviewer, I sporadically get the following error message. Each attempt to access any report in report viewer after the error message first appears results in the same error message for a bit of time until it appears to reset itself. I have read that this may be related to running out of memory for report processing... We have 2GB of RAM. How can I prevent this from happening or force the system to free up some memory if it is exhausing the available memory?

For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method.

For Security Reasons DTD Is Prohibited In This XML Document

I have seen one other post about this and using IP addressing rather that DNS names - I am using DNS.

I have a large report that runs fine in report manager, but as soon as I try and export it to Excel it takes an age to run and I get the above error.

Any ideas anyone?

Oh, and I export loads of other reports to Excel with no problems on the same server.

When we develop with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service.
We got the exception on some reports.

For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on
XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method.

Ther report renders well first time, but if we click the title to sort the report, it will throw the exception.

And It occurred that we use IE6 and IE7 to view the report at same time, but if we use the same version brower, there are no exception.
Can somebody help me?

Windows Server 2003 And Reporting Services Error: For Security Reasons DTD Is Prohibited In This XML Document.

Mar 29, 2007

I do a clean install of SQL Server + RS + SP1 with standard setup on Windows Server 2003. I create a simple report (select * from aTable). This report (actually any report) shows the error message "For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method."

This has to do with security settings in Windows Server 2003. On Windows XP everything works fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: The reports do work in the preview tab in BIDS.

Root Element Is Missing Problem

Apr 22, 2008

Configuration: SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition on Microsoft Cluster. Machines named Node1, Node2 and NodeV (Virtual Node). Best practices require SSRS be deployeed on an IIS6.0 server. Reporting services was installed on the Web1 machine and pointing back to the database on the NodeV platform. Everything appears to run fine in Reporting Services. However, when I use the ReportViewer control from within a webpage, the basic control appears along with the message "root element is missing". Using the same code, I point the ReportViewer control to a different server Web2 where Sql server standard, IIS and RS are installed and the report renders properly. What am I missing in the configuration of the Web1 box as far as IIS or SSRS are concerned?

Is there a soultion for this problem or a workaround?

Need Setup Help: The ReportServerVirtualDirectory Element Is Missing

Sep 19, 2006

I am getting setup problems with Reporting Services 2005.

When I try to connect through SQL Server Management Studio, the browser in the connect dialog can see the Reporting Services 2005 instance, but when I try to connect, I get an error dialog with the message, "The Report Services instance could not be found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient)"

I manually setup ReportServer and ReportManageer virtual directories in IIS to point to the corresponding directories within the Reporting Services installation. Was I supposed to do this manually? Was the installer supposed to set this up?

Anyway, when I browse to http://localhost/ReportServer/ I get:

* The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError)
o Access to the path 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.4Reporting ServicesReportServerRSReportServer.config' is denied.

When I browse to http://localhost/ReportManager/ I get:

An error occurred while parsing the configuration file. The ReportServerVirtualDirectory element is missing.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong and what I can do to fix?

XML Data Integration Component - Missing Element/attribute

Hello,
I use a XML Data flow item transformation in SSIS (XML Source). Here is an example of the input of xml file content:<extract date="2007-12-05"> <counters> <counter category="dispatcher" name="server1"> <runtime>6</runtime> <queue>3</queue> <maxrequest>8</maxrequest> <color>blue</color> <host> <name>svo2555</name> <path>\dispatcher</path> <lastaccessed>2007-02-03</lastaccessed> </host> </counter> <counter category="gateway" name="server1"> <runtime>1</runtime> <queue>10</queue> <maxrequest>10</maxrequest> <color>purple</color> <host> <name>svo2555</name> <path>\gateway</path> <lastaccessed>2007-02-03</lastaccessed> </host> </counter> </counters></extract>
How do I catch the extract date in the transformation? SSIS only shows me the <counters> element and not the <extract> one. Why? Is there a way to get it?Regards,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Address Checking Between Sources - Identify Missing Element

Sep 9, 2014

I have written a simple routine to do some address checking between sources. The business owner wanted the check done to the address as a whole and to report the address' that did not return a match. The comparison works perfectly fine.

Well, now the customer has come back wanting to know what element(s) of the address make the match fail

Here's the basic address compare:

SELECT *
FROM Full_Address_Map fam
WHERE fam.StreetName + ' ' + fam.RoadType + ' ' + fam.CityName + ' ' + fam.StateName + ' ' + fam.Country COLLATE Cyrillic_General_CI_AI NOT IN
(
SELECT s.base_name + ' ' + s.road_type + ' ' + p.name + ' ' + v.name + ' ' + v.country_name COLLATE Cyrillic_General_CI_AI

[Code] ....

You can see that we are building the address by sticking the 5 columns together with a space in between to create a single string. We are then doing the same thing with the other source data and simply comparing the string. This worked perfectly and was nice and simple... until the customer decided he wanted to see the element(s) causing the issue.

For example, let's say there is an address of '123 Main ST Dallas Texas United States' in one source, but it's '123 Main Dallas Texas United States' in the other. The customer wants to know that it is the road type (ST) that caused the mismatch.

Now, I wrote a bunch of queries to try and single out each element in order to determine if it is the one causing the issue or not. It seems to work partially, but I don't believe it is the best approach and it doesn't work if more than one column is the culprit.

ODBC Security Processing Fails With 'Missing Password'

Nov 27, 2007

Hello,
I have a package that contains an ADO.NET connection mananger using an ODBC provider. There is a user name and password configured in the connection mananger. The connection is to a DB2 database.

I install the package on SSIS by setting the package ProtectionLevel to ServerStorage. I then save the package to the server using FileSave Copy of (package name), and save it to the server. I also set the protection level there to use server storage.

When I enable package configurations (SQL Server), the package fails when run by a Job. In the log, I get the following error message from the DataReader source that uses the connection manager:

******
System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException: ERROR [08001] [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "3" ("PASSWORD MISSING"). SQLSTATE=08001 at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction)
****
The DataReader fails validation. When I disable package configurations, the Job executes the package without a problem. The server that the package runs on is 64 bit.

Why do I have this password problem when package configurations are enabled? The connection manager password is include in the package configurations.

Thank you for your help!

Please, explain me, why INSERT / UPDATE / DELETE with global tables andEXEC (any modifications of the global tables) are prohibited in theuser-defined function? On my point of view UDF is the same as SP but it has quite bettersyntax. It is very comfortable for me to do SELECT from UDF. UDFreturning a table value is a simplest way to return a custom rowset.Using the SELECT from UDF I have quite more abilities as if I use EXECSP. Reasons To Go SQL 2005 Over SQL 2000

Aug 11, 2006

Hi all,

I am working with an outside consultant to upgrade our SQL 7 instance. He wants to upgrade to SQL 2000 and I want to go to SQL 2005. I want to have concrete reasons backed up with documentation as to why we should go SQL 2005 as opposed to SQL 2000.

For eg. support (why 2005 is better, ie. longer support), security(More secure, documentation), management, stability (number of patches released last year) etc.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me to an appropriate resource.

Thanks all,

SA.

Index Corruption On Table Without Key: What Could Be The Reasons ?

Sep 14, 2005

Dear group,we are running a SQL-Server Database which is about 30 GB large. Thepurpose of this database is to contain periodic data from automaticdevices which insert values into some tables.Unfortunately most of these tables don't have a key (and a key can onlybe introduced when the application programmers have changed theirsoftware). Tables have this structuredeviceno timestamp datawhere we expect for every device and timestamp one row of data.In the ongoing operation it happens that the index of this large tablegets corrupted and a select from this table yields 2 rows for somedevices. In fact a select "SELECT DEVICENO, TIMESTAMP, COUNT(*) FROM TABLE GROUPBY DEVICENO, TIMESTAMP HAVING COUNT(*) > 1" returns lots of data. After rebuild of the indexes the table is "clean" again. What could cause the index corruption ?Missing key?Faulty application program ?a combination of both ?How can i prevent this from happening again, as long as there is noupdated database / application ?I'd be grateful for any useful commentRegardsUli

Master Database On Root Drive??

Apr 3, 2002

I have a 'need an opinion' question. I've always installed the system databases (master, msdb, model, tempdb) on the root drive (c:) with the sql application. Then I was thinking, the only things that really should be on the root drive is the sql app itself (and any other required apps). So...my question is, do y'all install the master, etc on a separate drive other than the root, ie d: or e:? The reason I ask is that if the tempdb database has alot of activity, and the database resides on the root drive, could it affect sql performance?

Just wondering. I just started working in a 'virgin' sql environment (setting up sql servers from scratch), and want to have sql installed in the best possible way for performance.

Thanks in advance for any info y'all can provide.

How Can I Directly Include A Square Root In A SQL Query

Dec 17, 2006

I have an ASP.NET application where I need to filter the records returned from a SQL query using a calculated distance to a point that is set by the user.   To do this directly, I would need to include a square root of an expression in the SQL query.  It seems like I should be able to do this by writing my SQL query something like:
SELECT SQRT(expression ....) AS distance, column2, column3 ... FROM mytable WHERE distance < 50
Unfortunately, SQL queries apparently don't like the SQRT function.  I am using .NET 2.0 with VS2005 and a MS Access backend (that will soon be moved to SQL/Server).
As an alternate, maybe I can query the data into a temporary record set with a extra field for distance and then step my way through the temporary record set and replace the values in the distance field with a calculated distance.  Once the temporary record set is prepared, then I would delete the records that don't pass the distance requirement or otherwise hide them and bind the data to a gridview control.
Thanks,
David
