Row Size Error
Jul 27, 2004
Howdy
I get an error :
"Could not insert a row size larger than the page size inot a hash table.
Resubmit the query with the Robust Plan hint"
Now if a row has data larger than 8060 bytes, no big deal, it splits it over multiple
pages etc , from what I understand. If this is the case, why would you get thate rror?
The app is Crystal Reports and we cant insert the ROBUST PLAN hint into the query.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,

I installed sql 2005 a while back. Then I recently found out my file system was fat32 (I don't understand why the hardware people did this...) and I had to convert to NTFS. Naturally the sql service no longer worked so I uninstalled inorder to reinstall now I can't reinstall it I keep getting this message
native_error=5039, msg=[Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size.
I'll try to post the full log in a new post.

Using C#, SQL Server 2005, ASP.NET 2, in a web app, I've tried removing the size from parameters of type NCHAR, NVARCHAR, and VARCHAR. I'd rather just send a string and let the size of the parameter in the SP truncate any extra chars if need be. I began getting the error below, and eventually realized it happened only with output parameters, as in the code snippet below.String[3]: the Size property has an invalid size of 0. par = new SqlParameter("@BusinessEntity", SqlDbType.NVarChar); par.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; cmd.Parameters.Add(par); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();What's the logic behind this? Is there any way around it other than either finding out what the size should be, or assigning a size larger than would ever be needed? ThanksMike Thomas

Data Size 525MB
Data Space Available 0.00 MB

I am not getting error message 1105 " Can't not allocate space...." when we are entering data. Can someone confirm that this is a bug and that the latest service patch 5 has addressed the bug. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I create an sql string as so, add parameters to it and execute it:
string cmdstr = "INSERT INTO locations(id1, id2, companyname, address, city, province, postalcode, phonenumber, faxnumber, contact, contactemail) VALUES (@id1,@id2,@companyname,@address,@city,@province,@postalcode,@phonenumber,@faxnumber,@contact,@contactemail)";

Hi,
I have been running a merge publication & 4-5 subscriber all running perfectly good, but today I started getting this error below? I generated a new dynamic snapshot and re init the subscriber, but still the same. I synchronized the other subscribers and they are all running with no errors, even after a init. I.E. I would think this is data related, to this subscriber, but I have no further ideas how to track it down?
any ideas?
Regards
Gert Cloete

To obtain an error file with details on the errors encountered when initializing the subscribing table, execute the bcp command that appears below. Consult the BOL for more information on the bcp utility and its supported options.
End of file reached, terminator missing or field data incomplete
Field size too large
The process could not bulk copy into table '"dbo"."MSmerge_contents"'.
The merge process was unable to deliver the snapshot to the Subscriber. If using Web synchronization, the merge process may have been unable to create or write to the message file. When troubleshooting, restart the synchronization with verbose history logging and specify an output file to which to write.

Hi All!
I've got some data in a table called Dim.Sources that I generated by a program to generate data, so the characters are wierd, but it is in the database.
When I process the dimension, I get an error like: the size specified for the link is too small, and it will truncate one or more values of the column...
It is only for the name column, but not for the id column (I guess because in this column there are only numbers).
I'm getting nuts! please, any help will be much appreciated! No way to find any information on the internet about it!
I don't remember defining any link size!! Where can I change it?? What is it??? : )
Thank you all in advance!

Hello
I am getting following error during executing a insert query.
Error Message : Cannot create a worktable row larger than allowable maximum.
Resubmit your query with the ROBUST PLAN hint.
1. The max rowsize for a table in SQL Server 2000 is 8060 characters.
2. The query was working fine for data below the limit, it failed
for the data above the limit.
3. I had tested the UPDATE query with option (ROBUST PLAN ), but it didn€™t work.
if any one have clue to solve this problem plzz reply soon.

Been doing some research after getting this error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
Cannot create a row of size 8297 which is greater than the allowable maximum of 8060.
And realised that my nice responsive varchars had a maximum total size. so I changed them for 'slower' text data types. but my DB still won't allow any more input.
has the limit been reached now regardless of what I change or can I rebuild the DB to recover the space or something?

A simple alter statement to populate a column is giving the error below.
UPDATE AM_PROFILE_4101_0 SET _92284 = CONVERT(varchar(1000),fv.varcharValue)
FROM AM_PROFILE_4101_0 pt
INNER JOIN cyfield_value fv ON fv.fieldID = 92284 AND pt.AM_PROFILE_ID = fv.AMid
Cannot create a row of size 8125 which is greater than the allowable maximum of 8060.
The table as many varchar(max) columns such as _92284, and many are populated with around 1000 bytes of data. Everything I'm reading tells me SQL 2005 supports large row sizes. But why is this error still coming up.
Other usage info: These numbered columns (i.e. _92284) are dropped, added, and repopulated with data every night.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I am loading from SQL Server 2008 to Access 2010 using SSIS. One of the columns in the table I am loading into is a Number datatype and Fieldsize is long integer. The values are being truncated, so I want to change the Fieldsize to DOUBLE. Â However, when I do that I receive the error below. What should I do? I would like not to change my Windows registry.
This error can be caused by one of the following:
The maximum number of columns allowed in a table or the maximum number of locks for a single file is exceeded.
The indexed property of a field is changed from Yes (Duplicates OK) to Yes (No Duplicates) when duplicate data exists in the table.
An expression is not specified in the Expression property of a calculated field.Â
If the maximum number of locks per file was exceeded, you can increase the number by editing a registry entry. However, this is not a recommended option.
If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you could cause serious problems that require you to reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Make a backup of the registry. Find the MaxLocksPerFile registry value by using the Windows Registry Editor, and then increase the value. The MaxLocksPerFile value is saved as part of the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftOffice14.0Access Connectivity EngineEnginesACE
If the Indexed property of a field and duplicate data is located in the table, reset the Indexed property to the previous setting, or remove duplicate records from the table.
While I was loading to the same table a few days ago, I received a warning and the task took approx 9 hours. I am attaching the screen shot.

Hi,
Using SQL Reporting 2005:
I have a report which has the Interactive Height set to 0 so that it does not use paging. When I try and print preview the report, I can see the report okay until I go forward after the last page, and then I get the error "An error occured trying to render the report. 0x80004005". I can print the report and it prints fine, but I get a pop-up that says that there was an error printing the report. I've narrowed it down to the interactive size property, but am not sure how to get around it.
Thanks.

Hi All...Thanks in advance for any help...
I am having an issue with SQL 2005 SSIS package...Win 2003 SP2...SQL 2005...
We receive files in the format of .TRK into an input directory...These files then are copied to a local directory on server and a .bat file loops through renaming each .TRK to MyFile.Txt...MyFile.Txt is then uploaded to a SQL table via DTS...Nothing complicated...The DTS runs fine when MyFile.Txt is placed there manually and executed...The rub is the call through batch file...
Here's the bat file...
ECHO ON
CD D:DOF
SET FromDir=D:DOFftp_in
SET ToDir=D:DOFconfirm
SET RemoteRoot=\MEMSRV079D$DOFGensrvnt
REM get files from remote server
MOVE %RemoteRoot%DOFOut*.trk D:DOFFTP_In
CD D:DOFFTP_In
FOR %%F IN (*.*) DO (
SET File=%%F
COPY %FromDir%%%F %ToDir%%%F
RENAME %%F MyFile.txt
DTSRUN /S MEMSRV079 /E /R /N "DOF_SAP_Confirm" > D:DOFLOGDOF_SAP_Confirm.run
DEL %FromDir%MyFile.txt
)
CD D:DOF
Works fine on Win2000 / SQL2000 environment but DTS had to be in MetaData, not normal...
All the copy, renames, etc in batch file work correctly...
Here's the error from DTS log...ie...The .run from above...
DTSRun: Loading...
Error: -2147217355 (80041035); Provider Error: 0 (0)
Error string: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Packet size change not honored by server, server size used

Here's my trouble shooting...Reinstall SP2 on Windows to get MDAC 2.8 version...MS KB article states that the ODBC registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREODBCINST.INISQLServerDriverODBCVer should be 3.7 or greater...It's 3.5 on this server...MDAC 2.8 (which is installed with Win2003 SP2) is supposed to take care of installing right driver...All registry keys point to the proper version of sqlsvr32.dll in .WindowsSystem32...
I'm at a loss...Currently we are looking at rewriting the bat file in C# or something similar...I would really like to get running as is...
Thanks in advance...

Cannot create a row of size 8455 which is greater than the allowable maximum of 8060.
The statement has been terminated.
The row size did not exceed 8060......
Also, If I make it an 'Insert' instead of an 'Update' it works.
It will Insert the data into table.
Any ideas?

I've got two databases on the same server and replicate some tables from one database to another. The replication is configured so not to drop the table if it exists, but to delete the data based on the filter if one exists. There are two tables on the subscriber that have some extra columns.
I get "field size too large" error when trying to replicate them. Is there a workaround without having to make the publisher and the subscriber tables identical by schema?

I want to store a Zip file as a BLOB, but I get an error:
"File 'C:<path of mdf file> ' appears to have been truncated by the operating system. Expected size is 2560KB but actual size is 1536KB "
whenever the BLOB exceeds 1MB.
Any suggestions? How can I store larger .ZIP files to the Database?
I am using MS SQL 2005 Express and the data type that I gave for the column to store Blob is "varbinary(MAX)".
I am inserting byte array in to this field.
It works fine for a zip file less than 1MB but as soon as the zipped file size increases beyond 1MB, lots of error pop-up and then the database is not readable. Its says that, the data in the data base may have been corrupted...

Hi,
I’m attempting to use DTS to import data from a Memo field in MS Access (Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider) into a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field. Unfortunately, I’m getting the following error message:
Error at Source for Row number 30. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Data for source column 2 (‘Html’) is too large for the specified buffer size.
I also get this error message when attempting to import the same data from Excel.
Per the MS Knowledgebase article located at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281517, I changed the registry property indicated to 0. This modification did not help.
Per suggestions in other SQL Server forums, I moved the offending row from row number 30 to row number 1. This change only resulted in the same error message, but with the row number indicated as “Row number 1. (Incidentally, the data in this field is greater than 255 characters in every row, so the cause described in the Knowledgebase article doesn’t seem to be my problem).
You might also like to know that the data in the Access table was exported into this table from a SQL Server nvarchar(4000) field.
Does anybody know what might trigger this error message other than the data being less than 255 characters in the first eight rows (as described in the KB article)?
I’ve hit a brick wall, so I’d appreciate any insight. Thanks in advance!
