Hi, I wonder where I can see last update over a table. Maybe sqlserver write some information about every table.
For example there are 300 tables in a database an I want to execute some query to see the last tables updated (list of tables updated > 2008-01-02 )
Hope to be clear,
Best regards

Hi,I want to save the last modification date when the row is updated. I have a column called "LastModification" in the table, every time the row is update I want to set the value of this column to the current date. So far all I know is that I need to use a trigger and the GetDate() function, but could any body help me with how to set the value of the column to getdate()? thanks for your help.

I was wondering if there is a simple patch for 2000 server. It seems that the only fix is to edit the registry and to use the time zone editor app. If there is a simple patch like there is for the 2003 servers i would appreciate it if anyone can show me where. I have about 80+ servers with 2000!!!
Much appreciated!

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))
Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Ś€„˘')
with 2 Unicode characters
Ś€ = 0x2300
„˘ = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„˘"
„˘ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„˘')
and select again voila i see
"Ś€„˘"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.
My attempts so far results in
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."
and
"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

If your tables contain created and modified/updated dates what is the best practice for these?
1. Should you use UTC dates?
2. Do you use a default for the creation date (I assume yes)?
3. Should you create a trigger to handle the last update date? Or do you update the column directly in your stored procedures that modify data?
Also, as an aside if you store the user who created/updated the record do you store a foreign key reference to the user table or do you store the username as a varchar? Of course I know you'd normally store the fk, but I wasn't sure if the "logging" nature of the column suggests storing a string value.

Does anyone know if there is an updated Books Online for 2000 published anywhere?? Or even a more recent copy of the 7.0? MS has probably made corrections
to them.
Also, I'm looking for all the free info about DTS for 2000. Not anything that MS publishes, more of a third party evaluation.
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I am using SQL Server 2005 and ASP.NET 2.0. We have a very simple content management system where we have to keep track of date last modified for each row in all of our content tables. I know there's a "timestamp" datatype that is used for replication scenarios, but is there anything similar that I can use to set up a date_modified column for each of my content tables that will automatically update with GETDATE() whenever anything in a given row is updated?
Or do I have to create a date_modified column of smalldatetime datatype and write a trigger on update for EVERY single table of content that I have in the database? It seems there should be an easier way to do this than to write 20 triggers for my 20 content tables.
Thanks!

Hi,
I was wondering, is it really true that in Sql Server 2005, there is no updated date -property for stored procedures? There is a created date -property, but it's not useful, because stored procedure's get updated often. This is a huge disadvantage for me, and I was really waiting for ms to fix this problem after sql server 2000, but no. Does anyone figured out any solution to this problem?

Hello all,
I am trying to change values of two tables in my sql server 2000 database. When one of the tables is modified in some way like adding/updating a record, I need a trigger procedure to copy this new data from the first table to the second. Problem is, how do I get the newly inserted or updated data from the first table? How do I specify that I only want the data which caused the trigger to execute? Anyone know?
Thanks,
Bob

Good afternoon everyone,
I hope that I am not asking a question which has been answered many times in the past, I did a search but could not find an answer. These may be beginner questions, so bear with me as I am something of a beginner.
This week our organization updated from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. We are using a Microsoft Access front end for this data and the information is entered through forms into the correct tables. When our researchers are enter the information they also have to sometimes search existing information to ensure they do not duplicate what is already in there. For this we use several access queries. This has worked well on the SQL 2000 server without any issues. However, now that we are on 2005 we are starting to recieve ODBC Call fail errors and errors which specify that they are a result of a deadlock. My first question is, are the ODBC call fail errors possibly locks which caused the ODBC connection to time out? My second question is why am I recieving these errors in 2005 but not 2000?
Thanks in advance for any help
- Hitz

I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.
When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.
I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.
Thanks!

When I try to make a connection to an Access .mdb I get the following error:
"Unable to open application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user"
Yet, I am able to open the file through Access and have necessary permissions and I know no one else has it opened. The mdb is password protected and I have provided the correct login information in the DTS connection.

Hi guys,
I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed
We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows
First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.
Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'.
For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists.
Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.
The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest...
Thanks in advance

I plan to apply the new security patch on my SQL 7.0 sp3 servers and get my SQL 2000 servers up to SP2 (which apparently already includes this)
But I was reading the Mitigating Factors in the announcement of this vulnerability and one reads as below:
"The effect of exploiting the first vulnerability would depend on how the SQL Server service was configured. SQL Server can be configured to run in a security context of the administrator’s choosing. (By default, it runs as a domain user). If best practices are followed, and the service is configured to run with the least privileges necessary, it would limit the worst-case damage an attacker could achieve. "
So my question is: What is the best practice for the SQL Server service and Agent service? Also are there resources for Best Practices?
Thanks!!

I am trying to apply this patch to a Developers Edition of SQL 2000. According to the instructions, I am to replace ssnetlib.pdb, located int the binndll folder. well, this file does not exist in this or any other folder on the server. I have installed SP2 and all previous patches. Anyone have any idea why this is and how to resolve it?
Thanks,
Mitchel

Hi,
I have discovered something wrong with my SSIS package and I thought it best to post a new thread since the problem is not what I thought it was initially.
With relation to my post of 'directory variable problem' I have now discovered by opening my project this morning that apparently my project had gone corrupt, according to the dev environment since the message reads:
"There were errors while the package was being loaded. The package might be corrupted.See the Error List for details."
The Error List:
"Error 13 Error loading MyTestSSISPackage.dtsx: The connection "(local).MyTestDB.sa" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found."
This is a buggy ADO.net connection that I deleted yesterday since, even though it connects successfully, doesn't want to work! It keeps on telling me log in failed for user <MyTestUser> even after I test it and it connects fine with the username and password during the UDL screen of the connection.. It's like it forgets the bloody password.
I created another connection, this time an OLE connection and it seems to work fine.
*EDITED*
I stand corrected..no bloody connection manager is working now. They all fail stating that they cannot connect to the db due to some or another 'unsupported' value in the connection string...the connectionstring was set up by the environment's udl????? how is this possible. I am beginning to get annoyed with SSIS
Now finally my question...WHY is it that every time I change something its like the dev environment doesn't cascade the change throughout the project or package? The problem I have been having with my variables not getting picked up with the correct values which I gave them during design time is probably also related to this. How or where can I remove the reference to this old ADO.Net connection since I cannot find it anywhere in the <package>.dtsx file?
Anyone ever experienced this?
Regards
Mike
