Sorry for my question, I know, that there were several topics about sql 2000 vs SQL 2005, I read all them but unfortunately I haven't got the correct answer. I must install my intranet application that uses asp.net 2.0 and SQL 2005 Express to a Windows 2003 server with SQL 2000. It is possible to install SQL 2005 Express beside the 2000 server? It is very important, because I have no possibility to test and that Win2003 server there are a few programs that use SQL 2000. What will happen with the 2000 databases and their programs if I install the 2005 Express to the server? They will work fine with 2000 and my application will work with 2005?
Or instead it should I configure my application to use 2000 capable connentionstrings?

Thanks & Regards,
I am about designing an access project file that connect to a SQL Server database : it could be either on the local computer or a remote workstation, this depending on where the front end is running.
Bypassing the default log on dialog box i have set my own form that users should use to connect on adp. Then using baseconnection string i connect the adp to sql server database.
My concern is how can i check from vba if the instance of SQL Server where my back end database is located is running in order to make
users knowing that due sql server service status off their connection
tentative will fail.
inform u i can check same from console management however i would to automate same controle from my adp and avoid that users have to operate such task...

Hi,
I have three systems that running different version of SQL sever..
1. my notebook - SQL Server Express 2005
2. my WS - SQL Server 2005 Standard
3. my server - SQL Server 2000
I installed SSEUtil to all of them and only the notebook works..
I read the Read me but it doesn't help me resolve my problem so I hope someone from this forum can help me out..
The problem:
Running sseutil on system 2. and 3. get this error, but not on 1.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
Additional information:
The service 'MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS' is not installed.
I tried -m but it doesn't help..
Any idea how to fix it?
Thanks,

I'm running 2000 databases in a 2005 server. Can anyone tell me if there are adverse effects in doing this?
As I understand it, the 2005 performance benefits are available to databases running as 2000(Ver80) But some of the new futures may not be available..
And any documentation from Microsoft/white papapers regarding this subjects are appreciated..
Hi
I have a setup where I need to replicate the database which is actually subscribing from another database. The current setup is all in SQL Server 2000. I need to now setup a Distrbutor on a SQL server 2005 and publish the database using this distributor to another server on SQL server 2000.
Has anybody done this before. If yes what will I need to check. Can you please let me know :-
1) SQL Server 2000 which SP should be installed to support this enviroment.
2) SQL Server 2005 which SP should be installed to support this environment.
3) Any thing that I need to look out for.
Thanks for any inputs on this.
Regards
Where can I further educate myself on this subject?
Right off from the start I would assume that installing SQL Server 2000 or 2005 on Windows Server 2003 that is set up as a web server hosting a website would be against "best practices." Is my assumption right?
Common sense tells me to not to host a website on a pc that is also hosting my database.
Can you run SQL Server 2005 in SQL Server 2000 compatibility mode and still use it with Reporting Services 2005?

I was planning on restoring a backup of my SQL Server 2000 db to SS 2005, but keep the SS 2000 configuration. The main reason for doing so is to maintain the DTS packages I have in SS 2000 because my understanding is that these are not easily duplicated in SS 2005 Integration Services.

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.
I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
However, I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but this doesn't work either.
Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated
Thanks...

I am currently trying to develop a small Windows Mobile Application with SQL server Mobile edition.
To develop this , I followed this link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx
As I dint find Vendors.sdf database I created My own Database with student table. My database name is MyDB. I created both Mobile database (.sdf) and the same database in sql server 2005
when I run the application I can update the database upto the mobile with no problem. But when I try to Sync I am facing the following exception at the following code.
private void SyncVendors()
{
if (File.Exists(this.DataFileName))
{
this.SaveData();
_repl.Synchronize(); //exception is raised at this line
this.GetData();
}
else
MessageBox.Show("The subscription database has not yet been created. You must first select the Init Sync menu item.");
}
For the replication I used
private void InitReplication()
{
_repl.InternetUrl = @"http://XXXXXXXX/MyDB/sqlcesa30.dll";\ for security reasons I am not using my system name
_repl.Publisher = @"XXXXXXXXX";
_repl.PublisherDatabase = @"MyDB";
_repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.NTAuthentication;
_repl.Publication = @"MyDB";
_repl.Subscriber = @"MyDB";
_repl.SubscriberConnectionString = this.DataSourceConnectionString;
_repl.LoginTimeout = 120;
//_repl.InternetLogin = "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX?; //Timely I used these 2
//_repl.InternetPassword = "XXXXXX?;
}

I have one standby server that I use for multiple production DB SQL Server 2000 servers. We are upgrading one of the production SQL Servers to 2005. I will install 2005 on my standby and run 2000 and 2005 side by side.
Is this okay? Are there any caveats specific to running 2000 and 2005 on the same standby server?
Thanks!

Hello,
I am trying to complete the BOL sample "Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile". Using SQL 2k5 and VS Team Suite. I have the emulator about to get on to the internet and can even get to the http://sqlce.domain.com/sqlmobile/sqlcesa30.dll url but when runing the vb.net code I get the error 28037 "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. The sync function code is below.

repl.Publication = "SQLMobile"
repl.Subscriber = "SQLMobile"
repl.SubscriberConnectionString = "Data Source='" + filename + "';Max Database Size=128;Default Lock Escalation =100;"
Try
repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase)
repl.Synchronize()

We have developed a Winmobile 5.0 application using VS2005 and Sql 2005 CE. We have successfuly installed the Server Agent on the web server and using the url 'http://websitename/rdatest/sqlcesa30.dll' have received an acknowledgement from the server agent. When we set up the Web Syncronization Wizard we kept things simple and opted for anonymous access. However, our Sql 2005 is based on a separate dedicated server which can be accessed by the web server. Our website, also written in VS2005, uses the following connection string to access the Sql 2005 database for our website.
"server=172.18.22.222; database=Audit; uid=steve; pwd=letmein"
When using the following code in our PDA application we have tried the above string as well as another interpretation with the same resulting error 'A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed, for more information please see HResult'. The code we are using is..
Using rda As New SqlCeRemoteDataAccess()
Dim sCon As String = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=172.18.22.222; Initial Catalog=Audit ; UserID=steve; Password=letmein"
Dim sCon As String = "server=172.18.22.222; database=Audit; uid=steve; pwd=letmein"
rda.InternetUrl = "http://websitename/rdatest/sqlcesa30.dll"
rda.LocalConnectionString = "Data Source=Program FilesTestSysTestdata.sdf"
Try
rda.Pull("Detail", "SELECT Details, Actions FROM Detail", sCon, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOff, "DtlErrors")
Catch sqlCeEx As SqlCeException
RecError( sqlCeEx.ToString)
End Try
End Using
Having tried both connection strings we feel the error is caused by something else possibly on our dedicated Sql server. Would really appreciate any help.
Hi,
I Have an application for Pocket PC 2003 developed in Visual Studio 2003(VB.Net , Smart Device App). I Use Sql Server CE as the database which Synchronizes with Sql Server 2000, SP4. The IIS and the Sql Server 2000 are in different Machines. I Have Installed the proper Sqlserver Ce in the IIS machine and created virtual directory with Basic authentication.I connect my device through Active Sync 3.7. I could browse the sscesa20.dll from Pocket IE and get the ' SQL Server CE Server Agent ' message. The PC to which my pocket PC is connected is under a Proxy.
When I tried the RDA.Pull() , the function fails and returns the error
" Error Code: 80072EE7
A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information see HRESULT. [,,,,,]
Minor Error : 28037
Source: Sql Server 2000 Windows CE Edition. "
The same application works in other network which is not under a proxy.
Any clues ?
Thanks,

I have seen information on the web about running two versions of SQL at the same time on the same server but was wondering any tricks of the trade regarding it. The main recommendation that I have seen is to have SQL 2000 SP4 running first as the default instance (which is my current situation on a development server) and then install SQL 2005 as a named instance on it. Should the SQL 2005 installation place its files in a dedicated directory (ie, C:SQL2005) as opposed to the default directory that the installation would normally write to, thus not overwriting any SQL 2000 system files? Any other recommendations?

I am unable to connect to a remote server on Computer A from Computer B, but when I reverse it I am able to connect to a remote server on computer B from computer A. I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on both computers. I am using the using the SQL Management Studio to connect. Both Computers have these settings
Using Surface Area Configuration both have local and remote connections checked. Both computers using tcp/ip only checked.
Using Configuration Manager both the sql server and the sql browser are running. Both computers have tcp/ip protocols enabled.
Under the server properties on both computers, under the Security Tab, I have SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode checked. Under the Connections tab I have Allow remote connections on this server checked.
I believe I have the Security for both the server and databases done properly giving them both proper Logins and User Roles with the proper permission.
Also went to my window firewall settings and under the Exceptions tab, I added both the sql server.exe and sql browser.exe programs on both computers on my remote network.
But when I connect on Computer B, I get an error message stating:

I have SQL server 2005 on a Windows 2003 machine. The machine is old and I need to move the entire SQL server to a new machine. There are many databases and users that need to move across to the new server. Detaching and attaching the databases would be tedious due to the large number of databases. Is there a way of moving the DB's and SQL users to the new machine without having to do each db one at a time?
Additional info that might be helpful:
The new server's IP address and name must also change to that of the old server.
The old server initially had SQL 2000 on it and was upgraded to SQL 2005.
The new server was installed with SQL 2005 only. Hence the Database and log paths differ between the old and new server.
Any help would be appreciated.
