Running SSIS For The First Time
Jun 6, 2007
Hello,
If my SSIS runs every day, how can I "know" that I'm running it for the first time?
I need an SQL Select1 statement to execute the first day that my flow starts (to get all the old data) and after that SQL Select2 statement should always execute (to get the latest data).
How is this possable?
Thank you.

I am trying to load previous days data at 3 am via a SSIS job.
The Date variable is initiated as DATEADD("dd",-1, GETDATE()) in the for loop.
Now, as this job runs at 3 am, and I set the variable as GETDATE() - 1, it excluded the data from 12 am to 3 am in the resultset as Date is set as YYYY-MM-DD 03:00:00:000 I need this to be set as YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00:000
How can i do this?

Wanted to verify how I would run a replace...it's actually my first time doing a replace, but figure it's worse to screw this up than just a simple SELECT :)
The table/field is:
SOHeader.ShiptoID
I need to go through and replace only values which are equal to '9999' with the word 'DEFAULT' instead for all rows in that column.

Hi there!,
Problem: I schedule a job that calls a stored procedure which loads around 1.5 million records. The Job takes 19 hrs to complete. However, if i run that stored procedure manually in Query Analyser it takes only 45 minutes..
Did anyone faced this problem? Is this known problem..Any suggestions/recommendations?
thank you.

Hi
Is it possible for me to run an update syntax at a certain time say midnight for example?
I'm trying to update a bit field in my table (which acts as a checkbox in my Access front end), but only if three date fields are before todays date. The dates in question are in two other tables.
If so how would I go about doing this?
Thanks

I am re-writing a old query that update's it's value based on values at run time. Is there anyway to accomplish the following query where column s1.AI referances the values that were updated during run-time.
I want to avoid a Loop (i.e. cursor or a CTE).
Please help!
Declare @Stage Table(StartDate datetime,BenefitInterestID INT PRIMARY KEY, Amount MONEY, InterestAmount MONEY, Interest DECIMAL(10, 4), ai DECIMAL(10, 4))
Insert Into @Stage
Select
convert(datetime,'2006-12-01 00:00:00.000',101) as StartDate,1 as BenefitInterestID,1701.00 as amount,79.605 as InterestAmount ,0.1000 as Interest,0.0000 as ai
Union all
select '2007-12-01 00:00:00.000',2,172.80,7.92,0.0500,0
Union all
select '2008-12-01 00:00:00.000',4,0.00,0.00,0.0700,0

SETs1.ai = s1.Interest * coalesce((SELECT SUM(coalesce(s2.Amount,0) + coalesce(s2.InterestAmount,0)+coalesce(s2.ai,0)) FROM @Stage AS s2 WHERE s2.StartDate < s1.StartDate ),0)
FROM@Stage AS s1
select * from @Stage
My desired Results are

2007-12-01 00:00:00.0002172.807.920.050089.0303
2008-12-01 00:00:00.00040.000.000.0700143.5300
But I am geting
2006-12-01 00:00:00.00011701.0079.6050.10000.0000
2007-12-01 00:00:00.0002172.807.920.050089.0303

Due to as you can see on row 3 that the amount does not factor in the previous Years ai column when I sum, due to the update takes place at runtime.

Hi all
As you know when you run a piece of TSQL scrypt in Query Analizer
at the bottom of the page , sql-server will show you the Time of completion of your code....is there any way to capture this time
from SQL-Server environment and use it in the Front-End Application
to inform the user?
Kind regards.

I have a date/time field with a sql format of "datetime" The actualdate/time data format is MM/DD/YYYY^hh:mm:ss:pm or "1/25/200712:00:16 AM" Both the date and time are combined on the same fieldwith a space seperating the two.I need to run a query on this date/time field using the criteria oftoday's date so if I want to search all records with todays date, Ineed to query on this field. I don't need the time, but just today'sdate (MM/DD/YYYY) portion of the field.Thanks,Brian

I have several sequence containers in one package that fire off execute package tasks. I would like each of the sequence containers to start at the same time when the job starts running. However when I set them up to do that, i get an error that the variable cannot be read because it is locked. I have the variables setup as readonly so not sure why they are being locked. When I run the package and have each sequence container fire off after the previous one ends it runs fine.
Any ideas on how to get around this?
Thanks!

Hi Guys,
We have a database with 20 gig and with huge transactions. The transaction log backup is scheduled every one hour
from 3.00 AM to 9.00 PM.
We take a full backup in the disk at 9.00 PM and again a full backup in the tape at 2.00 AM
It works fine in the day from 6.00 AM and complete within seconds and the size is approx. 50 to 200 MB.
But the very first transaction log backup at 3.00 AM is running like 3 hrs and the size is approx. 11 gig whick is almost equivalent to the Full backup size. There are some dts packages that are running in the night and as usual reindex, intergrity checks are running and there no large user traffic during night. But I have no idea which the very first transaction log backup in the morning takes longer time and has this bug size. Is there any work around to fix this proble.
Please advise.
Thanks,
Anu

Is there anywhere in the SSMS to see the start time of a currently running job, currently running it's first step, without needing to run a query?
If not, why would Microsoft decide to not show it in the job activity monitor?

A few pointers would be appreciated.
I am looking at building multiple SSIS packages. There will be some similarities. Flexibility is of highest importance. The main packages will need to connect to SQL Server1 as a source and SQL Server2 as a destination to transfer over dimenion data from multiple databases. (other SSIS packages may need to use SQL Server2 as a source and SQL Server1 as a destination)
For a single dimension table containing column dim_id on the target server (SQLServer2). I need to pass the results of the following SQL and insert into SQLServer2.database.dim_table
select dim.id
from SQLServer1.database08.dim_table
union
select dim.id
from SQLServer1.database07.dim_table
union
select dim.id
from SQLServer1.database06.dim_table
Now next year the names of the databases on SQLServer1 will be database09,database08,database07!
Now so far my best thought is creating views in my destination SQL Server. So I need some way of dropping and recreating the views. Previously in DTS I would expect to see SQL Server connection that I could use as source and destination. Now I can see SQL Server destination but not source? Also How do I just use SSIS to run some SQL. i.e execute a stored procedure, drop and creat views?
Many thanks,
Ells
p.s Flexibility is the key, in the last three months all the ip and server names have changed more than once so need to be as flexible as possible.

This is driving me nuts..
I'm trying to extract some data from a table in oracle. The oracle table stores date and time seperately in 2 different columns. I need to merge these two columns and import to sql server database.
I'm struggling with this for a quite a while and I'm not able to get it working.
I tried the oracle query something like this,
SELECT
(TO_CHAR(ASOFDATE,'YYYYMMDD')||' '||TO_CHAR(ASOFTIME,'HH24:MM : SS')||':000') AS ASOFDATE
FROM TBLA
this gives me an output of 20070511 23:06:30:000
the space in MM : SS is intentional here, since without that space it appread as smiley
I'm trying to map this to datetime field in sql server 2005. It keeps failing with this error
The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data
I'm struck with error for hours now. Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks

I'm trying to run a SSIS package (dtsx) from inside an sql job (SQL Server agent). This works fine if the user running (run as) the step is a local admin on the server. If it's not, I get the error message "The package could not be loaded. The step failed". This happens even if the user has all possible serverroles such as "sysadmin" etc in SQL.
So, my question is, is there any way to load an SSIS package without being local admin on the machine? In case it is, what is needed?

Folks -
Did you have any success when running bat files (Execute Process Task) from SSIS through SQL Server Agent jobs? My package will succeed when I run it from my machine, when I ask the DBA to run it manually from the Server but not when we run from a job.
The job will hang and the bat file does not seem to be executed. The executable property does evaluate to the right path and the package owner does have write/execute permissions in the folder where the bat file is located.
Everything I could find close to that is under <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760>. Would you shed any light on this? When I run the same bat file from a DTS through SQL Server Agent job, it will work with no issues. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I need to be able to run SSIS packages form an asp.net (win 2k3) web server. Wrox has a book out "Professional SQL Server 2005 Integration Services" where they call the dtsx package directly using the following vb.net snipette:
Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.DtsClient
Dim ssisConn As New DtsConnection
ssisConn.ConnectionString = String.Format("-f ""{0}""", strMyFilePath)
ssisConn.Open()
As you would expect this works great on a workstation that has BIDS installed on it but does not work on a web server where sql client tools are not installed. Without install sql tools on the server what needs to be done to get this functioning as coded? How about calling packages that are installed on the server?
If anyone knows of any sites or books that cover this in detail I would appreciate the info. I only seem to be able to find bits and pieces.
thanks in advance

I am having a problem running a SSIS Script from within a C# program. Script was running fine and then one day it stopped running and is giving me the following errors and nothing has changed.
2007-07-18 14:27:52,098 [1] ERROR reporting.Processor [(null)] - Problem with DTS Script
2007-07-18 14:27:52,895 [1] ERROR reporting.Processor [(null)] - {Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DtsError, Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DtsError}
The SSIS runs fine from the process on my machine, from SQL Server on my machine and from SQL Server on the server. But when I run it from the C# executable I get the above errors. This process also runs other SSIS scripts and they all work fine. I am using the following code to execute the script. Can anybody give me some ideas on how to troubleshoot this problem.
Package package = app.LoadFromSqlServer("\Maintenance Plans\SCRA2", "ppntt240", "load_abc", "bcp123", null);
DTSExecResult result = package.Execute();
Variables vars = package.Variables;
int rowcount = Convert.ToInt32(vars["count"].Value);
String rowcount2 = "0000000000" + rowcount.ToString();
string fullcnt = rowcount2.ToString().Substring(rowcount2.Length - 10, 10);
if (result == DTSExecResult.Failure)
{
Console.WriteLine("Task failed or abended");
log.Error("Problem with DTS Script");
log.Error(package.Errors);
}
else
{
Console.WriteLine("Task ran successfully");

Hello,
I'm new here and hope you will be able to help me.
I have created several SSIS packages with Visual Studio 2005.
They all work fine in debug mode.
I have been able to make them work with a ODBC connection by using a ADO.NET connection.
Then I exported them to the file system in my SQL Server 2005 database and created a task in SQLAgent to run them.
All the packages using the ODBC connection fail with the following error :
Login failed for user XXX
Error : 18456; Severity : 14 , State : 8
This error is a password mismatch.
I tried several database users and checked the passwords multiple times.
It looks like SQL Agent is not able to retrieve the password although it is stocked in both the ODBC connection and the SSIS connection.
Can you help me?
Thanks,
Ares
