Running Setup To Install AdventureWorks Sample Databases And Samples
Mar 23, 2007
Hi, i read article on how to install the AdventureWorks on my PC, basically i downloaded the sample db from microsoft website, but after i install several times, i seems cant get to see it in my sql server 2005, please assist on this, i have been craking head for this. Thanks :)
What are the AdventureWorksDBCI.ms and AdventureWorksBICI.msi used for? I try to run it, but it return the message "Another version of this product is already installed" and ask me remove the old version of this product. Anybody know what I should remove?
I've downloaded from msdn and ran the samples. It installs something, but the database tree doesn't show up in sql studio. Is there a straight forward way to do something like import or restore a adventureworks database setup?
I have downloaded and run all the .msi's for the sample databases. To install them I am suppose to use "SQL Server 2005 Setup, you need to click the Advanced button....". I don't seem to have a "SQL Server 2005 Setup" - did the docs revert back to SQL Server rather than SQL Express or what ???
I am very new to Sql Server and just starting in BI.
I want to do the SSIS tutorial, but even though I have been able to attach the Adventureworks DB, I can not find the flat files that are to be loaded in the tutorial. Is there some place where I can download them from?
I'm working with the sample database called Adventure Works and I'm encountering data consistency issues : If I sum the TotalDue for one particular territory, for one particular time window from the Sales. SalesOrderHeader table and if I try to compare the result to the LastYearSales and YTDSales from the Sales.SalesTerritory table, I don't get the same number, whatever I try. So did I miss something ? How are the LastYearSales and YTDSales fields from Sales.SalesTerritory calculated ?
I downloaded and installed SQL Server 2005 express Edition with advanced services.
My attempt to install the AdventureWorks from "Add or Remove Programs" failed for I was not able to see the "Documentation, Samples, and Sample Databases" node from "Feature Selection".
After reading a little bit I discovered that I had to download AdventureWorks from http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/librry/ms144235.aspx
First I downoladed and installed SqlServerSamples.msi and then AdventureWorksDB.msi however I cannot find AdventureWorks.mdf to attach to my instance? Inside the folder C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQ.1MSSQLData I have AdventureWorks_Data.mdf and AdventureWorks_Log
I'm not sure that I installed the AdventureWorks database when I originally installed SQL Server 2005 on my pc, but I thought I'd better go thru the tutorial and it uses AdventureWorks, so I put my CD in to install it and started the install.
When I got to the screen where you choose your components, I only checked the Sample Database selections at the bottom. Then I got a screen saying the components had already been installed. So I thought I must have installed AdventureWorks when I did the original install, but the tutorial says to go to Registered Servers and do a new Server Registration choosing the AdventureWorks database on the Connection Properties tab. But it isn't listed there when I browse the server's databases.
How can I get it installed?
NOTE: I had SQL Server installed on my C: drive, but had a major corruption issue, so I added a second hard drive to my system and installed XP on it. So my boot drive is now by G: drive, not C:. SQL Server and most of the other programs I use have been re-installed on G:. I DO have northwind.mdb & ldb files on my C: drive. Would it be easiest to just restore them to G:? Are they the AdventureWorks database? Thanks.
I downloaded AdventureWorksDB from the CodePlex website and tried to install it. When the install program tried to attach it to SQLEXPRESS, it gave the error (below). I've also tried attaching the database directly using the SQL Management Studio and got exactly the same error.
I'd never heard of having incompatible database versions for SQL Server before. Am I missing a patch for SQLEXPRESS or ????. Thanks.
The database 'AdventureWorks' cannot be opened because it is version 631. This server supports version 612 and earlier. A downgrade path is not supported. Could not open new database 'AdventureWorks'. CREATE DATABASE is aborted. I have installed MS SQL Server 2014. When I try to attach the pubs database that I downloaded, I'm getting an error saying that its non-release version (539) is not supported by this version of SQL Server.
My question is: Is there a way that I can either get an updated version of the database from Microsoft, or update the one I have?
I have installed SQL Express 2005 together with VS 2005. After a while I found out that the sample databases (Northwind and Pubs) were missing, so I installed them. According to the 'Readme', which comes with the installation I could choose between attaching the db to the Server or running a SQL script.
Neither works. I've read this link about remote connections (http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2005/05/05/415084.aspx). My development machine is just a local single computer and I still get this error message:
'An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.'
I' ve opened TCP/IP and Named Pipes and I get the same result when trying to connect from the Server Explorer in VS.
Hello. I have a little problem . I have SQL Server Express 2005 installed on my machine. As well as SQL Server Management Studio. For some practice, I also installed the AdventureWorks sample database and attached it to the Server. When I open SQL Server Management Studio it's right there, in the Object Explorer, sitting nicely along with the master database and so on. Now, I have recently installed Visual C# Express 2008, in order to explore this exiting new thing called LINQ (Language Integrated Query) . To do so, I created a new Project (say, WPF or Console application), and once the project is up and running it would be nice to attach some data to it so we can query that data and learn about LINQ. There is a problem, however. On the main menu, I click on Data-Add new data source, choose Database, click on New Connection and the Add Connection window comes up. As a data source, I specify Microsoft SQL Server Database file. For a database file name, I navigate to MSSQL.1/Data and in that folder, there it is, the AdventureWorks file. Now, here is the rub. When I try to attach this file, I get a window telling me that I don't have permission to open this file! Contact the file owner or administrator! How about that?! Can anyone help? It would be very much appreciated! Thanks.
Hey, Everyone - I have downloaded two of the sample databases and get the following error when I attempt to open them:
Unable to open the physical file "c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDATAAssets_Maintenance_log.ldf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5120)
So what am I doing wrong? The install of these sample databases is simple and straight-forward.
I'm looking for sample database for data mining in SQL Server 2005. In my project I need to use all algorithms provided by SQL Server 2005. I know that we have "SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases" on microsoft.com site, but there are only AdventureWorks data sets. I need sth less popular, but similar.
I have found http://www.kdnuggets.com/datasets/index.html and others, but I don't see data sets good for multidimensional analysis.
The origin of data may be natural or artificial, it doesn't matter. I don't have to generate my own data, because I had to discover new knowledge, that will be surprising to me.
There are two instances: SQL2005 and SQL2005Express on two different units. While there is Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition also installed on the units have not attempted these component installs through either yet. Have spent the better part of two days, following all the directions having searched help locally, online, technet, and applied their advice respectively. While I've taken out the old instances, downloaded updated ones in both my SQL Server instances they do not show as installed under Programs->SQL Server (whichever instance)->Tutorials ...However they do show installed in Control Panel and they can be found via Explorer (AdWorks DBCI+AdWorks BICI and Express instance on the other unit. Have also download SP2 and installed it, but this has proved of no help. @ My wits' end, any help will be appreciated.
Need help. After I installed MSDE. I opened a command prompt and navigate to C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual studio .NET 2003SDKv1.1SamplesSetupAnd then I typed in: oSpl -S(local)VSdotNET -E -i instpubs.sqlI got the message:[DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or acdcess denied.[DENETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).How can I fix it?The server 2000 is running and it's mixed login authentication.OS: windows server 2003Thank you,William

I just read the thread on renaming the server, and running setup. My question is how do I rerun setup? SQL 7 was installed from the Back Office cd and when I try to run setup it tells me that my SQL Server is corrupted and I need to run setup. If I run Setup from the MSSQL7 directory, it wants to "upgrade" to standard edition. What am I missing here?
I am going crazy! I've installed SQL 2005 3 times now, but each time it completes there are no servers set up for me to connect to. I can't do anything without connecting to a server and I simply do not have one that is obviously available. How do I set up a server to begin working?
I am trying to analyze log files from a failed install of Sql Server Dev. Ed. on 4/1/08. I have a Windows Installer Verbose Log Anlyzer for that.

My question is why?

There are other log files but I've decided to limit the "damage."
I would like to setup replica for one of the databases for reporting. The current environment is a 2 node cluster(active/passive). I would like to add a 3rd node that can server as a secondary replica. The secondary replica will be on asynchronous commit mode.
The database that needs to have alwayson setup has column level encryption enabled.
* Do I need to backup and restore the service master key on secondary server in order to have the column level encryption to work on secondary server?
* What would be preferred Quorum settings?
* What is the setting for 'readable secondary' for primary and replica db?
* What should be the setting for 'Connections in Primary Role' for primary and replica db?
* We are trying to setup without a Listner. Do I need to setup AG Listner? Can the application exclusively use the [secondary instance name].[replica DB name] without a listner?
I am trying to integrate SQL server 2005 install within my application setup project.so that whenever my application is intalling on a computer , if would check for sql server 2005 express , if the computer does not have sql server 2005 installed . the installer file should install sql server on the host computer.
Can anybody guide me through the steps involved in doing this.
The sql server 2005 will not let me install a new instance. I run setup and try to install a new instance but get the following error message: Note: the install disk is pre SP2 and the current sql server is SP2.
SQL Server Setup cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData, because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
I currently have a good work instance and don't want to have to move the "system database". Also I have tried to choose a different folder to install but still no luck.
Books online mention the existence of sample code for several custom tasks, including the one mentioned in the title. But, when I try to find this code in the location mentioned it is nowhere to be found.
I have run a search on the rest of my drive and come up empty.
I have installed SQL 2005 and was trying to run one of the Samples. I installed SQL as an instance, but when I run the setup script, it fails because it can not assign permissions to the ASPNET account.
It looks like it thinks the account is ServerNameInstanceNameASPNET, but it should be ServerNameASPNET.
i have a client with a windows 2003 server with 4 processors & 32 GB RAM, then MSSQL 2000 SP3. our software seems to run fine on it until the Task Manager shows the MSSQL using 1.7GB of RAM. At this point the whole system seems to slow down to a snails pace. Any ideas as to why 1.7GB and it never goes over that amount no matter how much activity i run on it. Restart mssql and everything seems to run good up until we see the 1.7GB again.
I have a 2 node cluster having 4 cores each wherein having 3 instances of SQL 2008 R2 enterprise comprising of 60 databases, 20 on each instance. I need to setup mirroring for each of the databases to a secondary server having 4 cores and 3 instances.
What i understand is that in this case the mirror server will be providing max of 512 worker threads and the 60 mirror databases would consume 240 threads.
What all needs to be checked for looking into the feasibility of going ahead with a async mirror setup as mentioned above.
