I'm running sql server ver 7.0 SP4.I have an access project (.adp) that runs a view which is nothing morethan a select statement. Access locks up solid when I try to run thisquery - with NO error messages what-so-ever.If I sign onto the server, and run the view from enterprise manager - Iget:"the data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status" !?!?!There is NO ERROR number, or further explanation of the message!!Now - this query DID work last week - all of a sudden I get this error- I've:1) repaired / compacted this database2) rebooted the server3) spent several hours searching websites & groups for an explanationa) I don't care how useless some people think enterprise manager is -at least it gave me SOME kind of error; where access just locks up!b) There are no issues with null values, or problem date fieldsanywhere in these tables.4) tried MANY variations on the query, and am now more confused thanever.5) I've RUN THIS QUERY IN AN ACCESS MDB WITH LINKS TO THE SQL SERVER -AND IT WORKS!?!?!?!?The query I'm using follows; if I remove ONE field from the selectstatement - this query RUNS!!!It doesn't matter what field I remove! It's as if, I can only have somany fields in the select statement!?!?!?This is clearly ridiculous since the query ran fine last week with thesame number of fields, not thatthat should have anything to do with this, as sql shouldn't care howmany fields I request.I'm not actually requesting any fields in the last table - but if Iremove this table it works!? Dear all,

I am running an Access adp application with SQL Server 2005 as back end database. I run a query by using Management Studio query window, and it returned correct results with some columns containing NULL value. But when I run this query through MS Access client side, popup an error "Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status" and crash the Access application. I moved the database back to SQL Server 2000, and it runs perfect on both client side and server side returning the correct result. This query is important for the application. Please help!!!!

runtime error

data provider or other service returned an E_Fail status in sql server 2005

when i am fetching record from view using order by clause in select statement then error is coming

as

select * from vew_emp where grade='C' order empno

at the first time it fetching record with order by

but when i am using recordset.Requiry

it cud not fetch the record

i think when the recordset is open with the record of view

i am deleting ,inserting record in the view base table then the main recordset is not working

without using order by it is running and working well
plz reply me quickly

Hi,
Please help me with an SQL Query that fetches all the records from the three tables but a unique record for each forum and topicid with the maximum lastpostdate. I have to bind the result to a GridView.Please provide separate solutions for SqlServer2000/2005.
I have three tables namely – Forums,Topics and Threads in SQL Server2000 (scripts for table creation and insertion of test data given at the end). Now, I have formulated a query as below :-
SELECT ALL f.forumid,t.topicid,t.name,th.author,th.lastpostdate,(select count(threadid) from threads where topicid=t.topicid) as NoOfThreads

Basically the error that I am getting is in our test automation when running as non-admin on the box (regular user). We use .Net C# SQLConnection class to connect to SQL express 2005 impersonating with admin credentials. After getting the connection we try to execute a select command and it some time fails with following error:

Runtime Data Source Error

Hello

I have a defined data source to an oracle server. I've alredy intalled oracle client, and setup my data source to save the user and password. I'm using .NET provider/OracleClient DataProvider Connection. When I click on "Test Connection" Button, SSIS reports SUCCESS. In Connection Manager TAB I created on connection called "OracleServer" from my oracle data source, described above.

In my package, I defined a DataReaderSource task, I specified "OracleServer" as a connection to it. I can preview data and view oracle's columns name..., so it make me think that everything is fine. But when It execute the task it FAIL and notify logon error and that password can't be blank.

Please help, I need read from the oracle server!!

Decrypting Provided Data

I have following problem. I would like to provide to my STP encrypted data and decrypt them inside it. To decrypt the data I'd like to use DecryptByKey. Encryption should be made on the Win32/.NET client.

Unfortunately I cannot find the way to make the data understable between the both worlds. First how to assign the same key on the both side? Do I get the same key from

I have noted, that the output from EncryptByKey is 16 bytes longer (after stripping key guid and fixed 0x01000000) than the one from Win32/.NET application. I assume, that it can lie in the inserting of IV as the first block, but should not IV be only 64 bit long in the DES family of algorithms?

Neverthless I have not magaged to perform encrypted communication such way between SQL Server 2005 and client application. Is it possible at all?

Error: 26 Error Locating The Server/instance Specified (.NET SQLClient Data Provider)

All,

One of our developers decided to load 2K5 client tools on to their laptop. They cannot connect getting the following error:

....Error: 26 Error Locating the Server/instance specified (.NET SQLClient Data Provider)....

1.) Allowing remote connections IS enabled.

2.) SQL Browser Service is ON

3.) Windows Firewall is NOT running

4.) All protocols (except VIA) are enabled

Others at this office, including myself, can connect fine in Management Studio. Only this one developer cannot.

Any thoughts and/or help would be much appreciated. I think that the problem has something to do with the first sentance above but I am not positive.

This article show how to create new user and setup for sql server notification.But In my case user was alredy existing in database. which is very common senario in most cases. Connection Error From ASP.Net Under IIS: Provider: Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40

We experience the 40 error when our Asp.net code runs under IIS and uses named pipes to a sql server 2005 named instance.

We've tried all suggestions found on blogs and KB articles such as making sure the named pipes protocol is enabled, making sure the Browser service is started, making sure Allow Remote Connections is enabled, making sure we're not using Asp.Net 2.0 membership providers, and the list goes on and on.

We boiled it down to a simple test scenario. We open a SqlConnection to the sql 2005 box in the code with the intention of binding a datareader to a gridview, but it never gets that far because the connection.Open() fails.

If we run this test application as a virtual directory in IIS and Asp.Net 2.0, the connection.Open() fails.

If we run this test application from Visual Studio .Net using Cassini (PWS), the connection.Open() succeeds and binds to the gridview.

What could be causing the connection to fail under IIS but succeed under Cassini? We've tried setting IIS to run as a domain user and with digest authentication enabled. That made no difference.

Any help or insight is appreciated!

Hello,
I am getting this warning message,when I am trying to load an excel file to a table
[Excel Source 1 [12717]] Error: A destination table name has not been provided.

These are the steps I am performing
EXCEL source

Data Conversion

OLEDB Destination

In the EXcel Source I have the Data Access Mode as
Table Name or View Name variable

Am I missing something.. I tried to give a default value in the variable and then I am getting this warning

Error at Data Flow Task [Excel Source 1 [12717]]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E37.

Hello, can anyone tell me if it is possible to conditionally join tables? If so, how could it be done?

What I would like to do is create a query similar to the one below but include the rows in the Asset table where the corresponding Alert field is NULL.

We just changed the dev environment to sqlagent. From then we were unable to see the reports on the report server because:

An error has occurred during report processing.

Cannot create a connection to data source 'IHRSDataSource'.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

this error is cropping up.

To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.

Please help me in resolving this issue.

A project developed from client1 with Asp.net 2005 now I need to access that project from client2 so I type http://My Ip address/Folder Name/home.aspx in my browser here when the sql connection is open(SqlConnection.Opn()) then I meet this problem

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Hi All,

I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,

SqlDataReader dr = null;

SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=IP;Initial Catalog=name;User Id=uid;Password=pwd;");

myConnection.Open();

myConnection.Close();

But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

It tries connecting to SQL Server 2005. There is no SQL Server 2005 in that system. There is only SQL Server 2000.

I have the aspx code in my local system and the database in another machine.

Could Someone please help me out in solving this problem.

hi all

I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.

I have had to rebuild my computer.

This is what I did

XP machine
using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
using Windows Authentication
NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)

straight default install all the way

unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer)
I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server

thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right

so ended up unistalling then - did the following:

Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install
failed on alter Counter Registry key error
fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen)
restarted
Went to Windows Update
check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok
Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet
Disk 2 and setup .exe

All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.

But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:

connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc
connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports
I then can deploy up to - NZ6
open NZ6
eports
report is there fine - but just errors

some simple little tick that I have not done!!

I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here.
I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.

I am creating a web site using Visual Studio 2008 & trying to connect to database on SQL Server 2000. My test connection is successful but while debugging the page I am getting this error :
" provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server "

Your suggestions on that will be appreciated.

Does anyone have a fix or a workaround that will work once the application goes live?
