SELECT * View Returning Wrong Column Data

Oct 16, 2007

SQL 2005 9.00.3402.00 (x64)

As Above really when I select * OR select a single column from the view the wrong column data is returned.

in SQL Management Studio when I expand the Columns of the view it reflects the old table structure not the new table structure.

I can easily fix by compiling the view again but this would mean I would have to recompile all referencing views when I make a change to table structures.

I've tried various DBCC Clean Buffers & drop cache with no effect.

Is there a command to recompile all views & poss stored procs in a database.

Any help or explanation would be appreciated

Newbie: Modifying Table = Wrong Data In View?

Apr 15, 2004

Hi there,

Completely new to the world of databases. I'm a designer who works primarily in Flash. In any case, I'm trying to manage an application that uses MS SQL and learn about the wonderful world of databases.

Ok, I modified a table (e.g. I added a column called "Rate") that had associated views (created by another developer). Noticed that my application went a little wonky as some of my variables within my app took on the value of the data in the "Rate" column. I checked one of the views and noticed that a column within the view (e.g. TutorID) was assuming the values in the "Rate" column. Note: The column TutorID had been blank before the change to the table. I'm completely lost as to why this is happening. Do I need to rebuild the view? Can I just reset the original view?

Thanks.

Oh yeah, I'm using SQL4X Manager J from Mac Guru (if that helps).

Transact SQL :: Returning Multiple Values From Column In Select Statement?

I am writing a query and have the bulk of it already written.

I am looking at a table that contains customer orders. There is a column named Customer_Order.Status Available values for this column is R, F, H, and C.

I'd like for my query to return all lines that have the value R, F, H.

My where clause is written like this

WHERE CUSTOMER_ORDER.SITE_ID = 'XXX' AND CUSTOMER_ORDER.STATUS = ('R','H','F')

I know I'm missing something....

SQLNCLI Gives Wrong Column Data From Linked Svr

Apr 8, 2008

I am running an SSIS package to extract data from a source SQL Server database to our own database. The source is on a linked server. The package worked until a column size was increased on a table on the source.

If I run a query against the linked server table I get the following error:

'OLE DB provider 'SQLNCLI' for linked server 'GSC-RPT.SVR.BANKONE.NET' returned data that does not match expected data length for column '[GSC-RPT.SVR.BANKONE.NET].[Peregrine].[dbo].[scProblem].short_description'. The (maximum) expected data length is 100, while the returned data length is 160.'

I've tried deleting the links and recreating them. Nothing works. I don't understand why my database query is expecting a data length of 100. Why does it not pick up the definition of the field length from the linked server? How has it retained this expectation when I have deleted the linkage and recreated it?

Create Multi Column View From Single Column Data

Jan 9, 2008

I have two tables, one a data table, the other a product table. I want to perform a join on the two tables with values distributed into columns based on the value in the month field.

data_table
product_code month value
350 1 10
350 2 20
350 3 30

product_table
product_code profit_center
350 4520

result_view

product_code profit_center mon1 mon2 mon3
350 4520 10 20 30

My current query gives the following result
result_view

product_code profit_center mon1 mon2 mon3
350 4520 10 0 0
350 4520 0 20 0
350 4520 0 0 30

Any direction toward a solution would be appreciated. Am using SS2005.

Query Returning Multiple Wrong Values

Jan 16, 2013

I've got this sql statement that keeps returning the wrong data. (it's related to a previous post, but is different)

Code:
SELECT C.NAME, OL.PART_ID, SL.SHIPPED_QTY
FROM CUSTOMER C
INNER JOIN USERS U ON C.ID = U.ID
INNER JOIN ORDERS O ON C.ID = O.ID
INNER JOIN ORDER_LINE OL ON O.ID = OL.ORDER_ID

[Code] .....

The qry pulls like this: (wrong way)

HTML Code:
company partID Qty
Acme Inc ABC123 3
Acme Inc ABC123 4
Acme Inc ABC123 100
Acme Inc KLM444 3
Acme Inc KLM444 4
Acme Inc KLM444 100
Acme Inc QRP456 3
Acme Inc QRP456 4
Acme Inc QRP456 100

It should be:

HTML Code:
Co. part Qty
Acme Inc ABC123 3
Acme Inc KLM444 4
Acme Inc QRP456 100

The Qty field has duplicates. I've tried various ways, but I cannot make this work.

SQL Server 2012 :: OUTPUT Clause Returning Wrong Row?

Nov 6, 2014

I'm looking at various methods for deleting duplicate rows. Among the alternatives, one works just fine but gives me results that make me go?.

Consider this script:

declare @t table (a int, b int, c int, d int, e int)
insert into @t (a, b, c, d, e) values
(1, 2, 3, 4, 5),
(3, 4, 2, 3, 4),
(1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

select a,b,c,d,e, rn = row_number() over (
partition by a,b,c,d,e

[Code] ....

The code works -- that is, the duplicate row is deleted. However the output clause returns:

abcdern
123451

So....why? Why does the output clause show that the row with rn=1 was deleted, when the where clause stipulates rn > 1?

Query Fails When Returning A Single Record With Numeric Data In NVarChar(16) Column In Device App

Mar 12, 2008

If a Select is done on a column whose data type is nvarchar(16) and contains only numerals (UPC numbers) the select does not return the record.

1. Query with numerals in nvarchar column works as long as multiple records are returned (LIKE '012%')
2. Numeric (INT only one tested) columns works as expected
3. String columns with alpha data works as expected

Transact SQL :: Key And Indexes On Two Column Data Table Or Parsed View (Large String Of Data And Filename)

Oct 4, 2015

I am studying indexes and keys. I have a table that has a fixed width of data to be loaded in the first column which is parsed in a view based on data types within the fixed width specifications.

Example column A:
(name phone house cost of house, zipcodecountystatecountry)
-a view will later split this large varchar string based
column b: is the source filename of the data load (varchar 256)
....

a. would there be a benefit of adding a clustered or nonclustered index (if so which/point in direction on why)

b. is there benefit of making one of these two columns a primary key (millions of records) or for adding a 3rd new column as a pk?

c. view: this parses the data in column a so it ends up looking more like "name phone house cost of house zipcode county state country" each having their own column.

-any pros/cons of adding indexes (if so which) to the view instead of the tables or both for once the data is parsed?

SELECT Data: Stored Procedures Or View?

May 10, 2007

Hi, I'm developing a fresh SQL DB which is result of a deep analysis of an old Access DB. THe thing is, this old one had very complex consultations to the Access tables, and some consultations were using another consultations as way to select some specific data. THe ideia in SQL is to avoid that too, however, there are some data that may serve exactly the same to some bigger stored procedures. This way, I have three options I guess: 1. Create every stored procedure making select queries directly to the table and it's done!2. Create auxiliary stored procedures which will select the redundant data, and when it is needed, another stored procedures call this one and use its returned data. (is this possible anyway?).3. I create a view to this redundant data, and the greater depth stored procedures access this data of the view when needed. I've heard, however, that a select to a view is slower than directly to the table, once the view adds an extra query to the process.. What is your guess on this issue of mine?I'm almost sure that option 1 is the best, however, I'd love to hear from you guys your opinion on this. The greater issue above this all is just one - performance. Thanks a lot!

Create A Column In A View Without Data

Feb 28, 2008

Hey everyone,

I have a view that shows the email address and first name of a Membership table. I need to add a column to this view that doesn't have a corresponding column in the original table that has some default value.

i.e. the view currently shows:

John john@something.com

I need it to say:

John john@something.com EmailBlast

The third column will always have that value.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

Help With Returning A Certain # Of Records From A View.

Jul 20, 2005

So my thoughts were as follows:1. To run a query to return X amount of the total data for us to workwith.2. Update these records with a flag in a table that the vw_test_viewfilters out.3. The next time I run the query to pull data from the view it willskip the records that I have already looked at (because of step 2) andpull the next X amount of records. Thanks in advance,Mike

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Blank Space In Integer Data Type Column View

Apr 4, 2014

I am dealing with what I believe is Oracle that is the source of a SQL View.

I am seeing a data type of Integer in the View, but I am not able to see what makes up that View. When I query the View, I can see that an Integer data type column is storing a blank space. I use ISNUMERIC(ColumnName) = 0 and there are a lot of rows that show as a zero length blank space, or text, or something. I just know that it is not an Integer.

I have attempted to CAST and Convert this value, but it will not. I have changed the data type on the table that is being inserted in too, and it still fails with a Conversion error. I have tried REPLACE(), but still the same conversion error.

I belive they both refer to the creation of the subquery (i.e. "From (" and ") t" ) but I can't for the life of me discover anything wrong with the statement. If you run the multiple union subquery by itself, it works just fine. (In case your wondering, the eventual the purpose of creating a sub query is so that I can use the UnPivot statement)
