Does anyone know of a way to restore a single table using SQL 7.0? I know that I can build a dummy database and do a database restore, then copy the table from database to database. But....was wondering if there is a way to restore a single table from a backup. Is losing the ability to restore a single table one of the 'features' of 7.0?

Hi!
This morning, I needed to restore 1 table to a database because it had
accidentally been deleted (don't ask). Each time I tried to restore the
single table, I would select TOOLS| DATABASE BACKUP/RESTORE| RESTORE
tab from Enterprise Manager, then I select SINGLE TABLE, but am only
given the existing table names as choices to restore. This happens when
I select to restore 'FROM DEVICE' as well.
Am I doing something wrong or is this how MS SQL6.5 is supposed to
work? Am I only able to restore a corrupt table and not a missing
table? I ended up restoring the entire database...
Thanks for your help!

Hello AllI am currently doing a project on MS SQL Server 2005 where I am inneed of table level backup/restore. I know about FILEGROUP. But inour project using FILEGROUP is not feasible. As far as I know MS SQLServer 2005 does not support Table level restore directly. Moreoverrelational integrity is also matter. Is there any clever trick or 3rd party free software to do table levelrestore/backup? Please Help.Best regardsNasif

With all the new functionality, can 2014 now restore a single table from a standard backup without using any third party tools? I have looked, but can't see this listed as a feature (though that doesn't mean it's not there, maybe I've just missed it).

Hi!
I have a SQL 2000 database that has several tables with the same name but with different users/logins.
Example:
Database "Customers"
Table Customer with user / login CompanyA
Table Customer with user / login CompanyB
Table Contact with user / login CompanyA
Table Contact with user / login CompanyB
I need to split these into two different database's
Database "CustomersA"
Table Customer with user / login CompanyA
Table Contact with user / login CompanyA
Database "CustomersB"
Table Customer with user / login CompanyB
Table Contact with user / login CompanyB
Any good idea how to do this?

I am looking for a SQL Backup/Restore tools which can restore multiple environments. Here is high level requirements.
1. We have 4 DBs, range from 1 TB - 1.5 TB Each Database. When we restore to QA, DEV, or Staging, we usually restore 4 of them.
2. I am looking for the speed to complete restoring between 1 - 2 hours for 4 DBs.
I am evaluating the Dephix Software but the setup is very complex and its given us a lot of issues with Windows Authentions, and failure in the middle of the backup. I used Guess Software many years ago but can't find it on the web site any more. Speed is very important for us mean complete restoring as fast as possible. We are on SQL 2012 and SQL 2008 R2.We are currently using NETAPP Technology and I have Redgate Backup Tool but I am mainly looking for fast Restore Process.

I need to backup a single DB with "Copy-only Backup" option on. I Want to place the backup on a different location, we have a media set which is used for daily backups. I want this backup placed on a different
server 192.168.250.xxx
DepartmentsITBackup2015xxx.bak
I have added this location to "back up to" The old one is still there. I I then hit OK th backup hangs for 2-3 minutes and gives me an error which points to the old media set. SO I want to create a new media set and call it "onlyonce" but what I am not sure about is what this Means "back up to a new media set and erase all existing backup sets" Does that mean all old backups will be deleted?

I should restore a SQL Server 2005 Database from backup. The backup contains three files, named user.bak0, user.bak1 and user.bak2.
How is the syntax of the restore filelistonly and the restore database ... ?
I usualy write
restore filelistonly from disk = 'path and filenam.bak'
restore database. zy
from disk = 'path and filename.bak'
with replace,
move.....
move....
This works but I cannot use it with a splitted backup file. The files are much too big to put together to one file.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I neglected to backup the transaction log as part of the process of backing up the database. Now i only have the backup file for the database and no transaction log backup. When i try to do a restore on the database, i get the error on a "tail log missing" message (which i'm assuming is that it's looking for the t-log backup?).
Is it possible to restore or even restore to a new database? I'm only looking to retreive data from 2 tables within the backup file.
Thanks!

Hi:
This question came to me from a friend and I don't have a lot of details so I apologize in advance. I thought it might be worth a shot to ask here since I couldn't find anything on point in the MS help or KB. A SQL Server 7 database running on an NT 4.0 box is having a full database backup nightly. The backup routine is pretty standard, created using the Maintenance Wizard. It backs up two databases on the server. The problem is that when folks come into work in the AM, the databases are in Single-User mode and someone has to go in and change this. Is this normal behavior? My (admittedly limited) understanding of SQL 7 backups is that they are relatively transparent, and Single User mode is not necessary. You can operate normally other than you can't to any unlogged txn's while the backup is running. They have not done anything explicit to put the databases in Single-user mode when the backup begins. Any ideas how to prevent this from happening? (Or how to automate the switch out of Single-user mode when the backup is completed?)
Thanks!

Hi!
I have a problem with databases that are left in single user mode after transaction log backup.
I have a database maintenance plan job that backs up the transaction log and checks data and index linkage every hour.
Sometimes the job fails and when I look in the report file it says that it has tred to put the database in single user mode and failed because the database is in use and then in the next step it says that it cannot perform the operation because there already is a user in the database.
Why is the database put in single user mode?
What can I do to avoid finding my databases in single user mode?
Below is a part of the report file:
[Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 15089: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot change the 'single user' option of a database while another user is in the database.

I have a backup that contains multiple databases. I am restoring it to a different server. How do I restore each database? Tried to restore under SQL Server Management Studio, but can only restore one of many from the backup (it appears it has only 1 logical file name in the backup) If you can refer me to a web page that would be great. I tried googling the topic but nothing seems to come up.

I had to replace my hard drive which was going bad. I reinstalled Sql 2005 and now need to restore the backup that I have. I selected Restore Database and chose From Device, and selected the backup location on J: drive and selected the backup file which has no extenstion. I checked the checkbox next to the backup set to restore. Click OK and then I get this error message:
Restore failed for Server
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Directory lookup for the file "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLdataMyDB_Data.MDF" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
I don't know why it is looking for a MDF file as this was never in the Backup folder. Can someone please help me on this? I thought I was doing the right thing making a backup all along and now I can't restore it!
