I have RS 2000 running on windows 2003 server. I want user to subscribe to reports and receive reports via email. Initially SMTP was not installed for IIS 6.0, so I installed it and the right way (I had done it on different machine before and was succefull in that) but on this particular machines ...I don't see "Default SMTP Virtual Server" node when I open IIS manager.
This is the third day I am working on this issue ..please help me out guys,

I'm trying to send email from my rss script. It seems that the script cannot create an SmtpClient instance because of SmtpPermission problems, but I just can't find where I need to enable the SmtpPermission. I've tried many things, including web.config and rssrvpolicy.config.
Here's a code sample:

and here's the output when I execute the above script under rs.exe against my local report server
Unhandled exception:

Any ideas?

Jun 13, 2001Does anyone have any step by step instructions for how to send smtp mail from SQL?
I guess I can use xp_cmdshell to run a vb script or something but I have no clue besides that as to what's involved.
Hope someone can help.

Feb 25, 2001Has anyone ever set up sql mail through smtp. I am trying to automate my server and not having to much success as i cannot use exchange for company reasons. I understand that i am able to set this up through outlook and not outlook express.
this is what i have tried to do:
1. Remove any MAPI application (Full Outlook or Microsoft Messaging from control panel). It is important that there are no mapi profiles on the server.
2. Logon to the SQL server using the SQLService account
3. Check that Outlook Express is the default Mail client (done from IE/tools/Internet Options/Programs)
4. Check that there is a mail account configured, pointing to an SMTP server, say aklexch1 (just put bogus stuff in for the POP server)
5. test that you can send a message (ignoring the receive errors) from Outlook Express to your @advantagegroup.co.nz address
Only after step 5 is working should you start testing from SQL
6. In SQL Mail config you will not see any profiles in the list but just type 'Default'
7. Create an SQL Operator with an @advantagegroup.co.nz address and click the test button
nb:i am setting this up on an win2000 server.

Can anyone adivise me with setting up mail in SQL 7. Unfortunatly I am unable to use the usual mail client for security reasons, thus I am attempting to use a mail account through express specifying a smtp address. I keep recieving Mapi and logon errors when starting mail and service manager.

I am unable to configure the automation service through outlook express as I understand that it is not supported. I keep recieving Mapi and logon errors when starting mail and service manager. I have also tried using a internet mail account which has not worked either. I have been told that sql mail should have a default mail client that I have specified as the SQL service account. Any feedback or advise in this area would be extremley helpful as I am stumped at the moment.

the SMTP somehow seems to work, but the SQL server is not able to send out notifications for jobs.

I want to setup a SMTP using gmail. How to configure it, it says,
In your email client software, under Outgoing mail, set the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com.
Set the your username is yourgooglemailname@gmail.com and make sure "Use username and password" is checked.
Also check off "TLS" under "Use secure connection."
I tried to do this in code:

Jan 8, 2004Does anyone have any idea how I would go about creating an object that can be informed of any modifications to a SQL data base. i.e. a .NET object that can detect whenever a table is updated.
It is NOT possible to modify the database in anway, so I can't add triggers etc.

If I go to Job History, I can see the yellow envelope under "notification" but I receive no email I have set up an Operator and can send email using "Send Email" but it doesn't work!

3. Go to Operators
4. I can set up a new operator by right-clicking "New Operator"
5. In Name, I have "John"
6. After "E-mail Name", i click in the 3 elipses, which brings up my address book in Outlook. I will select, let's say "John Smith"
7. When I click Test, it says "message was sent successfully" but I get no email
8. However, if I go to Outlook and send to "John SMith", it will send

Email Notifications
Oct 4, 2007Some packages I develop have a lot of steps, and some people like myself can go crazy with email notifications, depending on the graph, I sometimes add notifications (success/fail) at the component level, so I can know what happened to that SSIS package from my blackberry and immediately log into the VPN and fix the issue.
The only problem that I have with that is that sometimes, like right now, I see myself adding 6 "send mail tasks" to SSIS packages, one pass/fail for each component.
Basically, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions, ideally I wish I could create one single send mail task that could be reused by other components on the package and just update the message/subject through expression and variables.

Missing Notifications

We are building a simple distributed application around the service broker where each queue is serviced from a windows service. We have a windows service running constantly as a "listener" on an event queue for each of what we call "request" queues. When a message is received by the request, the listener service instantiates a reader to process the request.
As we are in development, things get out of sync at times and the event queues sometimes stop getting the event notification message. I can correct this usually emptying the queues by receiving all messages from the "request" and "event" queues but sometimes it becomes necessary to drop and recreate the broker objects. Can someone tell me what are the fail points event_notification and what corrective actions are needed at these points?
For instance, if I see that a queue has a state of "Notified" in dm_broker_queue_monitors, I just do a receive to drain the appropriate queue. I have been unable to determine what state the service broker is in when I have to delete and recreate the event notification so I don't know what is causing it and how to programmatically determine when it is necessary to take this action. We would of course prefer not to get to this state but since it can happen during development, I would guess this can happen in production so I need to develop the recovery logic to detect and correct for this condition.

i.e.

I though I would be able to get hold of this in sys.server_event_notifications but it doesn't seem to have any data although my server level event notifcation service is running.

I'm beginer with service brooker and i wandering if someone could help me to clarify what would be the proper usage of service broker for my current situation...
Suppose i have 3 tables: Customers, Orders and Providers. I would like my c# application to receive a notification for any data change on any of these tables. I know i could use my 3 tables in a SELECT statement for a global event notification but i need to know from wich table change occured.
I also though to create 3 separate event notification but i'm really not sure...
What is the best approch to acheive this??

I have Mirroring up and running successfully on two databases. The platform consists of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition X64 (Build 3790: Service Pack 1) and SQL Server Enterprise Edition X64 (Build 9.00.3200.00). I set up alerting for unsent logs per the Alerting Mirror Events article:

The alerts show up in the sql server logs as intended and work fine up to that point; however I have the alert set to notify an operator that emails and pages and that functionality does not work. The operator is used for other alerts and works fine i.e. the email address and pager address is correct. The pager on duty schedule is correctly set up as well. I was wondering if anyone has come across this problem after setting up Mirroring. It appears to be an isolated issue related only to Mirroring.

The store procedure does work. I would like to know if this is possible.

I would like to send mail from sql server using CDONTS.
I have the sql code for this and it works for internal addresses.
I get an error/warning saying that it cannot relay for external addresses when I try an outside domain.
Is there settings in IIS for the SMTP service that I can change to allow it to relay to the external domains?
I have everything running on the SQL Server, and I do not have access to the exchange server.

Hi All,
I'm trying to make my SEND MAIL TASK in SSIS dynamic, by retrieving SMTP Server name (amongst other email message information) from a table.
I've got an SP that is getting the information into package variable's, and when I don't try and have a dynamic server name (i.e. I use a specified SMTP server in my SMPT Server connection), then the email get sent off.
I'm trying to use an expression to build alter the send mail to use the server name I have in a user variable.
I've tried using the expression for the property:
SmtpConnection set to: RTRIM( @[User::MailServer])
I also tried without the RTRIM - I only added it because the error messages seem to include a full 'string' length, and there doesn't seem to be a 'varchar' data type for SSIS variables.
so:
a> Is SMTPConnection the property I need to be setting? None of the others seem correct
b> If SMTPConnection IS the property I need, does the value give the SMTP Server Name, or just the Name of the connection from the Connection Manager's?

b> The SMPTConnection property sets the name of the CONNECTION to be used. That Connection needs to set the name of the server. So n ow, the question becomes, how do I configure that from SQL (I know how to use package configurations from XML files).
