SP With Inner Join - Update Table Value (Single Column)

Oct 16, 2015

I'm trying to do the following:

update a tables value(a single column), based on a query of another database, using a common column.

Here's what I've cooked up so far:

Declare @trackingNo nvarchar (50)
Set @trackingNo =
(
select tracking_no from P21_Shipping.dbo.shipping_data t1
inner join P21.dbo.oe_hdr t2 on t1.order_no = t2.order_no

[Code] ...

print @trackingNoThe error it's returning is:

Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.

So, I'm wanting to query Shipping_data for order_No that matches the same orderNo column value in P21 Database(oe_hdr table), then update P21 oe_hdr table with "trackingNo from Shipping_data

Integration Services :: Pass Single Column Of Values From Successful Merge Join To EXECUTE Statement

May 7, 2015

How do I pass a single column of values from a successful merge join to an EXECUTE SQL statement so it can be used with an "IN" criteria of the WHERE clause?  Here's an example of my update statement with two random key values:

UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK IN ("XYZ123", "DEF890")

Is this even possible in SSIS, or am I better off using a loop and running the update EXECUTE SQL Statement for each individual key value, as in the following example?

UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK = "XYZ123"
UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK = "DEF890"

Insert And Update A Table In Single Web Page

Jul 27, 2006

A problem has come up in designing a Web page to maintain a small reference table in SQL Server 2000 (9 columns, about 25 records).

I tried to design the Web page to allow INSERT and UPDATE operations using a single page that posts back to itself. The page contains a set of empty form fields for a new record, followed by a set of filled-in form field for each row in the table. The form fields for existing records are given a unique name based on the field name concatenated with the primary key value for that row.

If I set up the page to INSERT only, it works properly. But when I add the fields for existing records, the INSERT operation malfunctions. Specifically, anytime a set of existing fields for a particular column is added to the page, the INSERT will no longer work properly for that column. This is true for all fields except the primary key field. It always INSERTs correctly. I tried adding only some columns to the set of existing form fields. In that case, the INSERT operation added the correct values for the fields that were not listed in the existing records section, but failed for the others.

I am using the INSERT INTO syntax for that operation and the recordset .Update syntax for the edits. I tried using the recordset .AddNew/.Update syntax for the insert, but it exhibited the same problems. The column data types contain smallint, bit, nvarchar, and ntext types.

I know that the correct values are being put into the INSERT statement. I also tried renaming the INSERT form fields to be totally different than the names of the existing record fields. But the problem comes back no matter what.

If necessary, I can split the logic so that inserts and updates are handled by different pages. But I would like to make this work if possible. If a reader knows why SQL Server is causing this problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

GPS,

Since you have such a dependency on dates and date calculations, you should implement a calendar table. A calendar table will make calculation such as this much more simplistic.

Calendar table link http://sqlserver2000.databases.aspfaq.com/why-should-i-consider-using-an-auxiliary-calendar-table.html.

Note the calendar table I use is a little different than this one. The only thing you will need to change is isodate to dt.

Now the code to get the results you need:

Code Snippet
declare @t table(
id int,
fname char(4),
Start_Date datetime,
End_Date datetime,
val_holiday int
)
insert into @t values (111, 'aaaa', '3/15/2008', '03/21/2008', 1 )
insert into @t values (222, 'bbbb', '05/2/2008', '05/9/2008', 3)
insert into @t values (333, 'cccc', '04/3/2008', '05/15/2008', 4)
insert into @t values (333, 'cccc', '04/29/2008', '07/07/2008', 1 )

select id, fname, cal.ISODate, val_holiday
from @t t1

inner join Calendar cal
on cal.isodate >= t1.start_date and
cal.ISODate <= t1.end_date

is possible to do it

Transact SQL :: How To Update Multiple Rows In Different Transactions In A Single Table

Jul 16, 2015

We have control table which will be useful whether we need to start the job or not. If we are starting the Job we will make it to 1.

Below is the Table Structure.

Table Name       IN_USE_FG
CUST_D                     0
PROD_D                     0
GEO_D                       0
DATE_D                     0

Now we have different packages for 4 tables data loading. These 4 packages will start at a time. Before going to load the data we have to make the Flag to 1 and after that we have to load it. Because of this we have written Update statement to update the Value to 1 in respective Package.

Now we are getting dead lock because we are using same table at a same time. Because we are updating different records.

Transact SQL :: Table Valued Function Returns Nothing When Single Column Selected

We run std 2008 r2.  I haven't looked at my friend's function closely yet bur he showed me that when he selects from the function with one column and the same where clause he uses on same func with select *, he gets no data under the column he requested.

But when he selects * he gets a single row.

I took a peek and see a bunch of left joins followed by a bunch of outer applies in his func. I suppose (thinking out load) if anything random like the order of rows returned or sql decisions on how query runs can affect his function, that might explain it.

Updating A Single Column On A Table SQL Server 2005 (45 Records), The Session Hangs...

May 12, 2007

Hello, I am pretty new with SQL Server 2005.

I have installed SQL Server Express Edition. I have migrated a set of tables from Oracl10g (by using Microsoft's Migration Tool Kit).While I am trying the following simple update command, the session hangs and it never finishes !!!!!!!!!!!!

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

select pos_key from pos_station where staff_key = 1105

POS_KEY
=======
NULL

update pos_station set pos_key = 1 where staff_key = 1105

/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

The table has a few constraints and a couple of indices in place.

Then I create another table (but no contraints or indices), just copy the data from the problematic one and the update WORKS (in msecs) :

update pos_station_new set pos_key = 1 where staff_key = 1105

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Is there any way to tell if the table (any table in SQL Server) is corrupted or not ?

How can I tell if a session is waiting for something and what is that something ?

Thank you very much for your help.

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Return 1 Particular Column From Another Table In Join

Apr 25, 2015

I'm creating a sql stored procedure inside this proc it returns some information about the user, i.e location, logged in, last logged in, etc I need to join this on to the photos table and return the photo which has been set as the profile picture, if it hasn't been set then return the first top 1 if that makes sense?

The user has the option to upload photos so there might be no photos for a particular user, which I believe I can fix by using a left join

My photos table is constructed as follows:

CREATE TABLE [User].[User_Photos](
[Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[UserId] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[PhotoId] [varchar](100) NOT NULL,
[IsProfilePic] [bit] NULL,

[Code] ....

Currently as it stands the proc runs but it doesn't return a particular user because they have uploaded a photo so I need to some how tweak the above to return null if a photo isn't present which is where I'm stuck.

Ambiguous Column Names In Multi-Table Join

Jun 21, 2006

Hi all,A (possibly dumb) question, but I've had no luck finding a definitiveanswer to it. Suppose I have two tables, Employees and Employers, whichboth have a column named "Id":Employees-Id-FirstName-LastName-SSNetc.Employers-Id-Name-Addressetc.and now I perform the following join:SELECT Employees.*, Employers.*FROM Employees LEFT JOIN Employers ON (Employees.Id=Employers.Id)The result-set will contain two "Id" columns, so SQL Server willdisambiguate them; one column will still be called "Id", while theother will be called "Id1." My question is, how are you supposed toknow which "Id" column belongs to which table? My intuition tells me,and limited testing seems to indicate, that it depends on the order inwhich the table names show up in the query, so that in the aboveexample, "Id" would refer to Employees.Id, while "Id1" would refer toEmployers.Id. Is this order guaranteed?Also, why does SQL Server use such a IMO brain-damaged technique tohandle column name conflicts? In MS Access, it's much morestraightforward; after executing the above query, you can use"Employees.Id" and "Employers.Id" (and more generally,"TableNameOrTableAlias.ColumnName") to refer to the specific "Id"column you want, instead of "Id" and "Id1" -- the"just-tack-on-a-number" strategy is slightly annoying when dealing withcomplex queries.--Mike S
