SQL 2000 DISTRUBUTED QUERIES FAIL

Jul 20, 2005

We recently upgraded our SQL 7 servers to 2000, and we have a good
deal of distributed queries in the form of Stored Procedures that run
between them throughout the day. After the upgrade, I began getting
the "CONNECTION BUSY PROCESSING RESULTS FROM ANOTHER COMMAND" error.
This is intermittent but is wreaking havoc on our operations. The same
query ran fine on the 7 server setup. I have exhausted all options
that I know of. All of the postings I have seen on these boards
relate to recordsets and ADO and having cursorlocations set
incorrectly, our stored procedure simply selects a count(*) from a
table on a remote server. Doesn't seem to make sense. Anyone seen
this before or know a remedy? Thanks in advance.

SQL Server 2008 :: Select Queries With Join Sometimes Fail On Some Remote PCs

Jul 22, 2015

I have an intermittent issue where some remote PC's occasionally fail to execute select queries that have a join or return multiple result sets, however simple one table select queries continue to work okay. When it does happen the PC's needs to be rebooted to get to work again. This may only happen some PC's while others continue to work away okay.

I am using a VB6 application and ADO to connect to the database and the error message I get is a General Network Error, Server Not Found when it fails to execute the query. I have ran SQL Profiler on the server and while simple select queries continue to run away okay, a query a join does not even seem to show up in the profiler. The program has been working fine for 15 years with 1000's of users and has only now become an issue on one site for a number of users. Have tried moving the database to a different server and swapping network cards on the local PC's but can't seem to find the cause. The processor and the memory don't seem to be under load, but I am not sure if there is something else in SQL that is causing it to hang under certain conditions.

There have been network analysts experts in to run scans on the network, but I have not had the results of this back yet. Other applications do not seem to be affected so if this analysis does not show up anything.

Sql Server 2000 Connection Fail

Jun 18, 2007

Hi group, being pretty new to setting up sql server, I am stuck. Have installed sql 2000 server on Win 2000 server, IIS 5.0. I try to connect via ASP script that looks like this:<%Set Conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")ConStr = "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB; DATA SOURCE=192.168.1.99"ConStr = ConStr & ";UID=someUser;PWD=somePassword" ConStr = ConStr & ";initial catalog=myDatabaseName;network library=DBMSSOCN"Conn.Open ConStrConn.CloseSet Conn = Nothing%>The IP number is the webserver my router points to on port 80.But get an HTTP 500 error and "The page cannot be displayed"Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong here, would be very much appreciated.I have run applications for a long time that operate Access databases, but starting a new, an big project, forces me to upgrade to sql databases.Best wishesFCH

Access 2000 Queries Performing Slower On More Powerful Server

Jun 27, 2001

Hi,

We have recently upgraded our production server from a dual pentium II 400mhz server with 384Mb of RAM to a triple 700mhz Pentium III system with 2gb of RAM . However, since switching over, all of our Access queries on the SQL7 databases are either running extremely slowly or not at all despite the DSN's being set up correctly . Does anyone have any ideas why, and more importantly, how I can resolve this???

Thanks

Bad Performance In Queries With Jet4.0 And Linked ODBC-tables To SQL-Server 2000

Jul 20, 2005

I changed from Access97 to AccessXP and I have immense performanceproblems.Details:- Access XP MDB with Jet 4.0 ( no ADP-Project )- Linked Tables to SQL-Server 2000 over ODBCI used the SQL Profile to watch the T-SQL-Command which Access ( whocreates the commands?) creates and noticed:1) some Jet-SQL commands with JOINS and Where-Statements aretranslated very well, using sp_prepexe and sp_execute, including thesimilar SQL-Statement as in JET.2) other Jet-SQL commands with JOINS and Where-Statements aretranslated very bad, because the Join wasn´t sent as a join, Accesscollects the data of the individual tables seperately.Access sends much to much data over the network, it is a disaster!3) in Access97 the same command was interpreted wellCould it be possible the Access uses a wrong protocol-stack, perhapsJet to OLEDB, OLEDB to ODBC, ODBC to SQL-Server orJet to ODBC, ODBC to OLEDB and OLEDB to SQL-Server instead ofJet to ODBC and ODBC direct to SQL-ServerDoes anyone knows anything about:- Command-Interpreter of JetODBC, Parameters, how to influence thecommand-interpreter- Protocol-Stack of a Jet4.0 / ODBC / SQL-Server applicationThanks , Andreas

Fatal Error Doing Simple Queries From An Sql 2000 To Sql 2005 Exported Database

Jun 8, 2006

I have been trying to export an sql2000 database to sql2005 with no luck. I continuosly get the error

Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.

I have looked upon all support material and have installed the latest sql2005 service pack, but this has not fixed the problem. a simple query as:

select * from [transaction] ta,transactionentry tr

where tr.transactionnumber=ta.transactionnumber and

glacctid=6 and ta.[time]> '3/01/2006'

would produce this fatal error.

the current version I am using is:

This problem is happening on some of the most important tables in the database.

the error log contains the following:

Best Practice To Pull Data From Sql Server 2000 To Sql Server 2005 With Dynamic Queries

May 3, 2007

Hi There,

I need to pull data using input from one table in sql server 2005. I have to query against the sql server 2000 database and pull data into sql server 2005. I have a list of ids that I have to pass to a query to get the desired data. What is the best practice for this. Can I use SSIS or do I need to build an app in C#? Can somebody please reply back?

Thanks a lot!!

Parameterized Queries Running Slower Than Non-parameterized Queries

Jul 20, 2005

HelloWhen I use a PreparedStatement (in jdbc) with the following query:SELECT store_groups_idFROM store_groupsWHERE store_groups_id IS NOT NULLAND type = ?ORDER BY group_nameIt takes a significantly longer time to run (the time it takes forexecuteQuery() to return ) than if I useSELECT store_groups_idFROM store_groupsWHERE store_groups_id IS NOT NULLAND type = 'M'ORDER BY group_nameAfter tracing the problem down, it appears that this is not preciselya java issue, but rather has to do with the underlying cost of runningparameterized queries. When I open up MS Enterprise Manager and type the same query in - italso takes far longer for the parameterized query to run when I usethe version of the query with bind (?) parameters. This only happens when the table in question is large - I am seeingthis behaviour for a table with > 1,000,000 records. It doesn't makesense to me why a parameterized query would run SLOWER than acompletely ad-hoc query when it is supposed to be more efficient.Furthermore, if one were to say that the reason for this behaviour isthat the query is first getting compliled and then the parameters aregetting sent over - thus resulting in a longer percieved executiontime - I would respond that if this were the case then A) it shouldn'tbe any different if it were run against a large or small table B) thisperformance hit should only be experienced the first time that thequery is run C) the performance hit should only be 2x the time for thenon-parameterized query takes to run - the difference in response timeis more like 4-10 times the time it takes for the non parameterizedversion to run!!!Is this a sql-server specific problem or something that would pertainto other databases as well? I there something about the coorect use ofbind parameters that I overall don't understand? If I can provide some hints in Java then this would be great..otherwise, do I need to turn/off certain settings on the databaseitself? If nothing else works, I will have to either find or write a wrapperaround the Statement object that acts like a prepared statement but inreality sends regular Statement objects to the JDBC driver. I wouldthen put some inteligence in the database layer for deciding whetherto use this special -hack- object or a regular prepared statementdepending on the expected overhead. (Obviously this logic would onlybe written in once place.. etc.. IoC.. ) HOWEVER, I would desperatelywant to avoid doing this. Please help :)

Jun 22, 2006

The error message which I am getting while the Job fails is

"Executed as user: TESTsqlservice. DTSRun: Loading... Why Does DTS Fail As A Scheduled Job?

Nov 26, 2007

I am trying to set up a DTS to transfer logging data from one server to another.
The record may already exist at the destination causing a primary key violation. I do not want this error to cause the entire DTS to fail.

When I execute the DTS I created by right clicking and selecting "Execute Package" it shows me 2 errors. Although there are 2 errors the rows that do not have a primary key violation are successfully transfered to the destination database.
Here are the 2 errors I see:

Error 1:
Error at Destination for Row number 97. Errors encountered so far in this task: 97.
The statement has been terminated.
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_event'. Cannot insert duplicate key object 'event'.

Error 2:
Error at Destination for Row number 198. Errors encountered so far in this task: 198.
The statement has been terminated.
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_eventDetail'. Cannot insert duplicate key object 'eventDetail'.

These errors make sense, there were 97 duplicate lines in the event table and 198 duplicates in the eventDetail table.

This is the behavior I want. New rows are copied to the destination database.

When I schedule the DTS as a Job in the Enterprise manager things change. When the DTS is executed as a Job (as opposed to me right clicking and selecting "Execute Package"), the job reports a failure and none of the new rows are transfered to the destination database.

Why does the DTS transfer the rows that do not violate the Primary Key constraint when I manually execute it and not when it is executed as a job?

How can I get the DTS to function as desired?

Thanks,

Andy

Gettting A Job To Fail

May 19, 2008

I'm trying to get a job to fail using a stored procedure command.

I have been using:
EXEC sp_stop_job @job_name = 'Archive Tables'

But this command only cancels the job, I want to the job to report back a failure.

Is there a sp_fail_job, or a sp_quit_job or something?

Thanks in advance

How To Fail SQL Task...

Nov 27, 2006

I have several packages that I download files using a sql task (I cmd shell out). I use sql task because the file names change everyday.  what I want to know is how can I check to see if the file I downloaded exists either within the same task (preferred) or a task right after?? I want to fail the package instead of letting it get into the actual loading of the file where it now fails at.

I hope this makes sense.
