SQL 2000 Q: Duplicate Database

Jul 20, 2005

Hi folks

I know just enough about MS-SQL to be dangerous, so feel free to warn
me off this it's too much for a non-expert.

We are using SQL 2000 as the back-end for website. We would like to
create a duplicate of the database (on the same server). Then we'd use
them like this:

Database A: read-write DB accessed by web administrator
Database B: read-only 'live' DB accessed by the web server

The smarts: setting up a way to maintain Database A, have it be
accessible internally (maybe different IP, maybe different port) and
when a change is approved, have that change replicate to Database B to
be visible on the website.

I'm wondering if it's something I can do myself with the right
reading, or I'm going to have to hire some SQL know-how to help me
out.
Dave

Transact SQL :: Duplicate PIVOT Function In 2000

Jul 1, 2015

I have a query that uses the PIVOT function and works fine in SQL 2012.  I've been asked to move the query to a database that has the compatibility level set to 80(SQL 2000).  I receive an "Incorrect syntax near" error when I try to excute the query on the SQL 2000 database.  I would like to duplicate the exiting PIVOT functionality in SQL 2000.The existing query retrieves employee names and the order that the employee should be displayed from a table.  The names will appear on the report according to the order that is retrieved from the database.  Also, the users have requested that only 5 names appear on each row of the report.  This is why the PIVOT function was needed.  Below is an example of how the existing query works.

Table
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[EmpGuest](
 [Guest_ID] [int] NOT NULL,
 [Guest_Name] [varchar](80) NULL,
 [Display_Order] [int] NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

Report Services 2000 Totals On Group Are Incorrect. Summing Duplicate Values

Dec 19, 2007

Hello Everyone
I've created a report with a simple dataset that is similar to this

City , RequestID, Request Amount, ClaimID, ClaimAmount
El Monte 791 52,982.00 2157 41,143.75
El Monte 3691 11,838.00 3140 8,231.14
El Monte 3691 11,838.00 3141 990.00
El Monte 3691 11,838.00 3142 2,615.00

So I group by City, RequestID. On the first group I specified the expression to be City and in the header I list the city and in the footer I list the sum of Request amount. On the second group I specified the group by Request so in the header I placed requestID and on the footer I placed Request Amount. I set request information to hide the duplicates and I even add =Sum(Fields!RequestApprovedGrandTotal.Value,"GroupByRequestID") the scope of the group. But this is what I get:

For requestID = 3691 for Request Amount is 35,514.00 not 11,838.00. All the claim sums are correct and they are located on the detail row.

I've read that a work around is to create multiple dataset but I honestly believe that something as simple as this should work on the reporting server 2000. So I've come to the conclusion that I must be doing something wrong. Can someone give me a hand on this. Thanks.

Duplicate Database Files

Feb 26, 2001

Hi,

I've got a database called Webmine which is running with multi users.

I want to duplicate it to generate archive.

My problem is that I can't duplicate the MDF file (and the ldf file optionally) without detach the webmine db and reattach after the duplication.

Detach this database is a problem durring this processing of duplication because we can have users always working on Webmine.
Is there a way to proceed without detach Webmine ? Or perhaps it's stupid or dangerous to duplicate a DB if users are always working (that's my position but here, everybody does not agree with this position so can anybody certify
I've got or not reason ?

Thanks to your answers

Best regards
Axel

Duplicate Records In The Database

Sep 13, 2006

i have duplicate records, but they have unique ids.

the duplicates resulted as a result of using a view to enter the data using BCP to load data from text file that had many dulicate records as part of consolidting the data i would like to get rid of the duplicate

is there some way of checking if the Name, Address, Telephone and Image are the same as on a record with another then remove them.

the table has the following colunms:

ID, Name, Address, Telephone, Image

1, adam, 45 tree gate road, 00000 000000, adam.jpg
2, uno, 44 garstang road, 00001 000001, uno.jpg
3, adam, 45 tree gate road, 00000 000000, adam.jpg
4, brian, belgarth house, 00022 000022, adam.jpg
5, karen, 3 chester close, 00002 000002, adam.jpg
6, uno, 44 garstang road, 00001 000001, uno.jpg
7, adam, 45 tree gate road, 00000 000000, adam.jpg

from the sample data you can see that there are multiple records is there a way of clensing the data using a sql command?

is there any issues such as performance on clensing it etc?

are there any strategies that should be implemented at the data tier so as to prevent duplication of data?

CREATE TABLE DUPLICATE OBJECT/DUPLICATE FIELD NAME ERROR Msg 2714

Oct 2, 2007

Hello Everyone:

I am using the Import/Export wizard to import data from an ODBC data source. This can only be done from a query to specify the data to transfer.

When I try to create the tables, for the query, I am getting the following error:

Msg 2714, Level 16, State 4, Line 12

There is already an object named 'UserID' in the database.

Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 12

Could not create constraint. See previous errors.

I have duplicated this error with the following script:

USE [testing]

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users1]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users1] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users2]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users2] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

IF OBJECT_ID ('[testing].[dbo].[users3]', 'U') IS NOT NULL

DROP TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3]

CREATE TABLE [testing].[dbo].[users3] (

[UserID] bigint NOT NULL,

[Name] nvarchar(25) NULL,

CONSTRAINT [UserID] PRIMARY KEY (UserID)

)

I have searched the "2714 duplicate error msg," but have found references to duplicate table names, rather than multiple field names or column name duplicate errors, within a database.

I think that the schema is only allowing a single UserID primary key.

How do I fix this?

TIA

Preventing Duplicate Database Entries

Jan 31, 2006

Hi all.. I've been scouring the forums for about 6 hours to no
avail.  This is a really simple question.  I'm trying to have
a registration page that lets the user input name, email, desired
username, and password.  I want to check the username and email
fields to make sure ppl cannot sign up twice.  So from what I've
gathered I have a couple of options:

1) i can set up a unique constraint on the database columns,
2) i can run a select statement before inserting,
3) i can store the whole database column in a variable then search through it.

My question is how to do option 2?  All of my transactions are through a sqldatasource object in c#.

When I create a new database (SQL Server 7.0) and then try to load a backup, I always end up with a message that the backup database is not identical with the destination database. That is correct and I know it, so what!? Is there any other possibility to transfer a database other than Export/Import. Using this method took me about 48 hours for 6 GByte database!

All suggestions are welcome

The Package Contains Two Objects With The Duplicate Name - Package Created In UI - Duplicate Columns

Aug 17, 2007

I've begun to get the above error from my package. The error message refers to two output columns.

Anyone know how this could happen from within the Visual Studio 2005 UI? I've seen the other posts on this subject, and they all seemed to be creating the packages in code.

Is there any way to see all of the columns in the data flow? Or is there any other way to find out which columns it's referring to?

Recreating A Sql Server 2000 Database As A 2005 Database

Jan 25, 2007

I am working on a project that was written in Visual Studio 2003 using asp.net and C#.  The project accesses a SQL Server 2000 database. I need to test the application. What I want to do is to copy the database over to a test server. The problem is that the test server only has SQL Server 2005 on it. Would it be a problem if I backed up the database using SQL Server 2000 and then recreated it on the server as a SQL server 2005 project? Would my source code accept the new database even though it would now be in sql server 2005?

What I wish to do, is at regularly scheduledintervals, update the SQL 2000 Data with the newest MSDE Data.On my clients server, they have both MSDE and SQL 2000 installedthe msde has a user name and password to access it, whereas the SQL2000 uses authenticated mode to access it.What I'm trying to do is to write a bunch of SQL Queries, that I canrun that will copy over the new Data, but I'm having problems accessingthe msde database in query analyzer from the SQL DatabaseCan anyone give me hints on the best way to try thisThanksScott

Updating Sql 2000 Database From Sql 2005 Database

i have sql 2005 installed on my personal machine, but our server has sql 2000 on it. the structure of my database was made on the server, but i'm not sure how to update the server copy from my local copy. when i try to export my data from my local machine to the server (or import from my local machine to the server), i get pre-execute errors.

roughly every other week, i'll need to be able to update the server version from my local version, so i'm trying to find the most efficient method. what is the best way to update a 2000 database from a 2005 database? it doesn't matter if i append or overwrite, but i do use identity fields. the error i get when trying to use the import/export wizard is:

Sql Server 2000 Installing Database On New Sql Server 2000

Oct 30, 2007

Problem description

There are two sql servers with the same database in different locations with replication running on them. Users in the two locations insert or update date on there own database through an ms access application . The data are replicated to both servers.
Someone wanted a copy of the database and they dropped replication, but users continue to modify and add data on both servers and so replication could not be back again without merging the two databases as one again and restarting replication.
My job was to merge the databases and make replication work and after allot of work all is fine.
I copy and attached the database on my pc that I set up as a server and did the job. Then I went back on both servers that had replication running before I attached the database and set the subscriber and publisher and all was fine to that point.
The database has six groups with permissions on them and many database users on each location. Both the groups and the users show on the database.
I create a new login and user and I add him to the groups to get the permissions.
Now back on a user pc I login with the new user name run the ms access application and try to add some new records, but I get errors that I cannot insert null values to two of the fields in several tables in the database.
This was not happening before and the database was recording the values in those fields namely the user name and the date that the new record was created.
After some reading I found out that I might need to set the groups and permissions on the views and tables from the beging but Im not an expert.
Any ideas?
Thanks allot
George
