I would like to password protect my MS Access Database which is being exported to from SQL 2000 using DTS, but when I password protect it, I get an error message stating "The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user". The ACCESS file has to be opened exclusively to add password protection. Any suggestions?

I'm kinda new at programming, and am currently attempting to create a web application. I have an error when I try to insert information into a sql server database, and can't find how to fix it no matter how hard I try.
The error I get is: Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user.
I have it so a user is logged in and is shown a form to fill out, then submits it (which creates an insert statement and sends it to the database).
My connection string is as follows:
CnnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" + "data source=serverdestination;" + "User id=user;" + "Password=pass;";

I can successfully create a db using pull method, when I try to push back data I got the following SQLCE error:
"Another user has opened the database with different instance-level initialization properties. [ 32 ]"
Before calling the push method I did
SqlCeDatabase eCE = Helper.GetDB() as SqlCeDatabase;

SqlCeConnectionPool.CloseSharedConnections();
SqlCeRemoteDataAccess rda = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess();

rda.LocalConnectionString = eCE.ConnectionStringWithoutCredentials;
but after the assignment the LocalConnectionString is different from ConnectionStringWithoutCredentials, there are much more ssce parameters.
What I don't understand is:
why I'm getting this error even after closing the connection ?
Since the error report [32] the ssce conflicting parameters shoud be AUTO_SHRINK_THRESHOLD, FLUSH_INTERVAL and MAX_DATABASE_SIZE
I tried to cut & paste the same values from LocalConnectionString into app.config connection string, at first It seemed to work, but now I got the same error.

I am facing a issue with bulk upload on Test Server.
Issue: When running Openrowset command from SQL server other that Test Server query runs fine when trying to run the same command from Test Server it gives error.
Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot bulk load because the file "\ServerNameinputFileName.csv" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.).
For example: If the command is run from System A connecting to SQL Server instance on Test Server Test Server it gives this error. If the same command with same rights is run from any other SQL server instance say Dev1 its running fine.
If the command is run from Test Server connecting to any SQL Server instance including Test Server it is running fine.
Tried: 1) Given the read/write rights on shared folder, to user under which the SQL server service is running on Test Server
2) Given the read/write rights on shared folder to everyone.
Query:

I'am doing functionality test on DTS packages and saving my DTS packages to meta data services instead of saving them as local packages. We would like to see what information would be provided by saving them this way, but when we try to open the meta data browser (the 3rd icon under DTS) we get the following error:

I have a SSIS package that copies data from one database, into another, makes a backup, and then FTP's up the backup to a web server. In Sql Server I've made a job to run the package and a Stored procedure to activate the job from an Access database front-end.

When running the following statement in SQL 2005, I get the error message "Access is denied":

The following are true about the network:
The SQL Server is installed on SERVER-A.
SERVER-A and SERVER-B are Windows 2003 servers on the same Windows 2003 domain.
The SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are running under the domain account SQLSERVICE.
SQLSERVICE is a member of the Domain Admins group.
The Domain Admins group is part of the local Administrators group on SERVER-B.
The SQLSERVICE account has also explicitly been given Full Control to the folder referenced by \SERVER-BSHARE
xp_cmdshell use has been enabled on the SQL Server.
If I run the following command in SQL:
exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'whoami'the following is returned: DOMAINSQLSERVICE
If I change the command to access the c: drive instead of a network drive, it executes successfully.
Can anyone shed some light on why I still cannot access any of the files in this folder using xp_cmdshell?

I have an File System Task that copies a file from one directory ot another. When I hard code the target directory (c:dirfile.txt) it works fine. When I change it to a virtual directory (\serverdirfile.txt) I get a security error:
[File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\gracehbtest oS2TMM_Live_Title_000002.xml' is denied.".
Where do I change the security settings?

Ok so I'm using the Management Studio Express and was able to log in and get into the database server, but I had to click the "options>>" button and change database I wanted to connect to from <<default>> to my database on the server or else I get the "cannot open user database, login failed" error message.Then I right click my database and it gives me the "Cannot open user database. Login failed" error message, even though I already connected to the database to login during the connect screen. Also I'm able to interact with the database using SQL QUERIES in the Management Studio, like adding new tables with it, but if I right click the database and click "add table" I get that error.What gives? I know I have permission since I was able to log on, and modify the database using SQL queries but if use the GUI I can't use it. I can't even right-click select "properties" without getting that error. The reason I want to use the GUI is because I want to right click and use the backup feature of the database.My guess is that Management Studio continues to point to the default database(which gives me that message) after I already logged in, so I have no idea how to change the default database that management studio points to, to the one I do have permission to use. Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance.While configuring the SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf). saved.
However, if you save, close and re-open the stored procedure having made the required changes, the changes have been saved.
Is there any way to suppress the error message / hotfix available from microsoft since the error message appears to be completely erroneous ?

I have few SQL user who has permissions on different databases. When they are accessing MSSQL server from Enterprise Manager they can see all Databases but can not access them and they can change file size allocated to them. I want to restrict this and they can only see database belongs to respective user and restrict user to change allocated size. Please help me with this as I am not able to find the solution.

If you are having trouble accessing Meta Data Services on W2k3 and SQL 2000 and get the error that the "msdb database could not be opened" I found that hot fix 912812 on the operating system is the culprit. Remove it and Meta Data goes back to working, although I am being asked to approve the ActiveX control every time the page refreshes.
Hope this helps somebody, to took me long enough to track it down.
If anyone has a resolution to the ActiveX question I'd love to know the answer.

I installed SQL 2005 including backward compatibility, MSDN libraries and SP2 a new Windows 2003 server (chose mixed mode authentication). Installation was successful and I then installed an off the shelf database with Windows authentication which also installed successfully.
I created a new group in AD, added the database users into the group and gave db-owner rights to the group in SQL as advised by the installation guide. However, when I try to open the database it gives an error message saying "Cannot open database.[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL server does not exist or access denied". I also tested it adding an individual user (myself) as a user to no avail.
When I set up DSN in ODBC on my computer I can successfully test the connection but can't run the application. The connection is via TCP/IP.
Any suggestions?
Using SQL native client from VFP 9.0 to SQL Server 2005 64 bit SP1 (happened before SP1 too)..
We have a stored procedure that returns 6 result sets. This SP uses 2 cursors. It is rather lengthy - I'll post the code if needed.
This SP works fine when called from VFP 99 percent of the time. Normally takes 2 to 3 secunds to execute.
Once in a while we will get a return from SQL ..
"OLE IDispatch exception code 0 from Microsoft SQL Native Client: A server cursor cannot be opened on the given statement or statements. Use a default result set or client cursor..."
The OLE error code is 1429. An OLE Exception code 3604 is also returned.
When this happens the SP will return the same error when executed for the same parameters over and over when called from VFP. When called directly from SQL management console it will normally work for the same parameters, although once in a while it will just hang (and not timeout apparently). In that case it will also hang from SQLCMD command line utility as well.
Wait a few hours and the SP will run fine for the same parameters in VFP. This happens even in the middle of the night when there is no possibility that data is being changed.
Here's the really fun part...
Open the SP source for modification (ALTER PROCEDURE) in management console and execute it (no changes at all, just let it recompile). Immediately it will work fine when called with the same parameters called from VFP or anywhere else (even if it was one of the rare instances where it hung in management console). This works EVERY TIME.
Sooo... I edited and executed the SP with the WITH RECOMPILE option assuming that that should do the trick (same as alter procedure/executing from management console right?). NOPE. Same problems. In order to work around the problem when the error occurs, I HAVE TO alter procedure and execute the code from management console.

When creating a user control (ascx) and registering it in the webpage, an error occurred:
"Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."
This error does not appear when creating data access normally, and I don't use username/password for the northwind database; any suggestions.
I am not able to launch the Kerberos Configuration Manager due to the above error.

After restoring a database to a new server running SBServer 2003 with SQL 2000, I can access the database with any of the users accounts from the desktop of the server. When I try to attach to the database from a workstation on the network i receice the error "user nae does not exist". Any help will be appreciated.

Is a TABLOCK HOLDLOCK in a transaction the best way for locking a table for a brief period of time?
We need to get generate a unique serial number each time a certificate record is printed. We have in place a field called Field_SERIAL_NUMBER for each certificate record, which may be printed 1 time or 100 times. Each time it prints, we will insert a unique number into the Field_SERIAL_NUMBER field.
This is what I'm thinking to approach this.
- Create a new table called Table_SERIAL with one field called Field_NUMBER which has only 1 record set to 1.
- Every time a certificate is printed, we
1. Begin transaction
2. Select @number = Field_NUMBER from Table_SERIAL with a TABLOCK HOLDLOCK
3. Insert that number into the Field_SERIAL_NUMBER field in the certificate table
4. Increment @number by 1
5. Update Field_NUMBER with @number in Table_SERIAL
6. Unlock table
So, everytime the Field_NUMBER is pulled, it should be unique and incremented by 1.
Does this approach sound good?
