I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file. After importing a data into the mdb file, above column
data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?

I am having a problem importing data from xls and access into my SQL2005 DB using SSIS. Would appreciate any help in getting this resolved. Environment: Xeon 64 bit processor machine/Win 2003 64 bit (x64)/SQL 2005 64 bit Some of the resources that I have dug up so far have pointed to Jet Engine SP8 and WOW64. A search on the box shows this: C:WindowsSysWOW64Msjet40.dll €“ File version is 4.0.9025.0 Not sure what is missing. The following is the error from the import from xls. The one from access is very similar. ================================================================================== Task Import abc_xls Validation has started [DTS.Pipeline] Information: Validation phase is beginning. When I try to make a connection to an Access .mdb I get the following error:
"Unable to open application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another user"
Yet, I am able to open the file through Access and have necessary permissions and I know no one else has it opened. The mdb is password protected and I have provided the correct login information in the DTS connection.

Dear All,
I need to import data from Access 2000 into SQL 2000.
The collection of Access 2000 databases I have are build identically, with differing data. I need to get that data into some tables I have built in SQL 2000 .
I understand there are 3 main methods, DTS, BCP, Bulk Insert.
I would prefer not to use BCP since I want to write a Stored Proceedure to call the data in. Any thoughts ?

Let me describe my situation
I am running SQL Server 2005. I created all the tables/columns/keys I needed. I export the data to Access.
In Access, I add all the data for the tables. Then I use SSIS to import-append the data back in to SQL Server 2005.
I get this error:
-------------------------
- Pre-execute (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc0202009: Data Flow Task: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0202025: Data Flow Task: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc004701a: Data Flow Task: component "Destination - tbl_name" (19) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
-----------------------
I can use the import tool (SSIS) to create new tables, but not append the data. Creating new tables makes all the tables to lose information about field lengths etc, so this is not an option
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

We are attempting to import data from Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server 2000 using the DTS Import/Export Wizard. I have a few questions.
1) Some of the Access tables have a single field for combined date time with the Access data type set to Date/Time and no formatting set. When the conversion happens these become text data type in the SQL Server. Is there a way to have these become either the smalldatetime SQL Server data type or datetime SQL Server data type?
2) On some other Access Tables with the data type set again to Date/Time again no formatting is set but some columns are dates with the date in the Short Date format, and some columns are times in the Short Time format. Some of these columns may contain null values. This is causing the following error.
Error at Destination for Row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Insert error column 152 ('ViewMentalTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 150 ('VRptTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 147 ('ViewAppTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 144 ('VPreTime', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Insert error column 15 ('Time', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
Invalid character value for cast specification.
We thought maybe it was due to the naming of the one field as "Time" so we changed the name of that field but again the same error occurs but with the new field name.
When we click on the transform button to view the data types none of them are listed as timestamp.
Is it possible that the DB Admin saved some tables and then later on tried to add tables to the same database that is causing this error?
Are we better off trying to import the table structure first and then fill the tables later?
Any help is appreciated.

Hi! When i'm importing into ReportServer report made with Access i've got those errors:
An error occurred while the report Bank Account Transactions By Type was being imported: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '[Bank_x0020_Account_x0020_Transactions_x0020_By_x0020_Type].Parameters![trans type]' Key being added: '[Bank_x0020_Account_x0020_Transactions_x0020_By_x0020_Type].Parameters![trans type]'
An error occurred while the report Bills from Purchase Orders by Supplier was being imported: Item has already been added. Key in dictionary: '[Bills_x0020_from_x0020_Purchase_x0020_Orders_x0020_by_x0020_Supplier].Parameters![vendor]' Key being added: '[Bills_x0020_from_x0020_Purchase_x0020_Orders_x0020_by_x0020_Supplier].Parameters![vendor]'
What is the meaning of those errors? I thought it was because ReportServer was trying to add 2 or more parameter with the same Name but for example in my report Bank Account Transactions By Type i only have one textbox that use the name trans type. So is someone have an idea?
Thanks !

We have a daily process, which copies millions of rows of data from one DB to another over Linked Server. Just checking on the best practise, are there more efficient ways than the Linked server to copy millions of rows of data from one DB to another? I checked bulk insert but that transfers the data from the file to DB not DB to DB.Â

Hello,
I am trying to import a table from Access and/or Excel. I have attempted with both programs. I get errors possibly due to some bad data over the years. Is it possible to tell SQL Server to import a table and discard any errors? or is there a way to scrub the data before importing to make sure all possible causes of errors are corrected or addressed?

Hi All,
At the moment i have a piece of software that uses Access to store the data into a number of tables.
I am developing a new piece of software that has been built around SQL express and need to upgrade users that are using access. I have managed to write the installation to install etc and also the start of a script to insert all of the tables. I cant work out how to get the data into SQL express using a script.
Basically the access db (CentralDb) will be stored a a given location C:Program FilesCentralDB.mdb
The tables within the SQL version are indentical to access but i need a way of pulling out the information stored and putting it into SQL, and as there is no DTS i am becoming stuck on how to automate the process.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hi Everone,I'm writing a script to import data from an XML file, and this tutorial isreally an awesome guide :http://www.kbalertz.com/Q316005/Imp....Component.aspx ... problemthough is here's a snippet of my XML file:<planets><sun rise="6:23" set="20:33"/><moon rise="18:54" set="4:26"/><mercury rise="7:50" set="22:11"/><venus rise="4:24" set="17:38"/><mars rise="9:45" set="23:40"/><jupiter rise="17:23" set="4:20"/><saturn rise="10:09" set="23:53"/><uranus rise="1:38" set="13:10"/><neptune rise="0:23" set="11:13"/><pluto rise="20:38" set="7:25"/></planets><moon><phase date="7/6/2006" text="Waxing Gibbous">9</phase><phase date="7/7/2006" text="Waxing Gibbous">10</phase><phase date="7/8/2006" text="Waxing Gibbous">11</phase><phase date="7/9/2006" text="Waxing Gibbous">12</phase><phase date="7/10/2006" text="Waning Gibbous">14</phase></moon>The tutorial seems to work well with entries in XML that look like this:<nighttime><txtshort>A moonlit sky</txtshort><txtlong>A moonlit sky</txtlong><weathericon>33</weathericon><hightemperature>100</hightemperature><lowtemperature>74</lowtemperature><realfeelhigh>108</realfeelhigh><realfeellow>74</realfeellow></nighttime>But when the XML file has more info (not sure technically what it's called)like the date and text options above in the phase tag, I'm not sure how toimport these into MS SQL. In MS Access I did do an import from this XMLfile, but alas it didn't see these entries in the phase tags either.Suggestions? I'm trying to use the XML Bulk Load component, but I'm sureI'm missing something. I have an interesting challenge. we are not allowed to allow users direct access to data in our SQL Server. Audit requires us to take the data out of our production server and pass it to the user. my situation is i have a table in SQl with over 100,000 records and growing. i want to pass that to an access data base. i am utilizing DTS and a data transform.
i s there a better way? the package is running slow and even appears to freeze. i see this amount of data as growing as well.

Hi,
I'm about to embark on writing some code in perl or VBscript that automatically synchronises a constantly updated Access database with an MSSQL database.
I know MSSQL has an import tool built into Enterprise manager but I'm wondering if theres a stored procedure that does this?
The way I'm thinking of doing it is to read the all the access tables into separate hash arrays and then INSERTing them into the MSSQL database after checking for any duplicates. This all sounds a bit time consuming (there are a large number of tables) and processor intensive.
If anyones done anything like this before, I'd love to hear their views......!
Thanks!

Hi all,
I want to import MS Excel data into MS SQL 2000 and I am programming this in VB 6.0. I am referring the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316934/EN-US/ for this. I can able to import Excel data successfully into SQL database table. But the problem is, the order of exported data in SQL table is not matching that of MS Excel data. All the rows were jumbled, which made it totally unusable.
Please guide me how to Import Excel data into MS SQL in its original order only. Any other method other than what I am following is present; please suggest me to keep the original order.

I attempted to use SSMA to migrate a 2000 file format .mdb into SQL Server Express (and, as I've just purchased VS2005 Pro, into SQL Server Developer Edition).
The file is actually a backend, so nothing to migrate other than tables.
After several runs during which I received (and fixed up) some errors, the process runs smoothly with no errors or warnings, until it comes to the last step; migrating the data itself.
Data migration into 'parent' tables works fine. However, wherever I have data in a table with a foreign key relationship to any of the aforementioned 'parent' tables, it refuses to migrate it. The text of the error message will be very smiliar to the following (from the log):
[Datamigrator: Error] [464/7] [2007-09-23 14:18:54]: Exception: The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "Branch$CompanyBranch". The conflict occurred in database "DPMTest", table "dbo.Company", column 'CompanyID'.
There is nothing wrong, so far as I can determine, with the relationships involved.
I can insert data into the tables using any of the following methods:
1. Directly in Access, in the source backend.
2. Using the original Access frontend application, attached to the source backend.
3. Using VB.Net forms I am developing, in the 'upsized' database.
4. Directly in the Management Studio, in the 'upsized' database.
None of these four methods complains in the least about the relationships which SSMA balks at.
I would be grateful for any ideas....thanks.

Hi there,
I have successfully installed SQL Server Express.
I have copied NorthWind to SQL Server.
I have created an ODBC to the SQL NorthWind.
But my problem is, I open the data but I cannot edit or insert records
to the Customer table.
I have gone into SQL Management Studio and modified Permissions
on NorthWind and the Customer table with Alter, Insert, Update.
But no luck.
Has anyone experienced this?
Email me at justintoronto@hotmail.com if you have a solution.
I will try to check back here also.

I have a stored proc that runs and produces an Excel 2007 file. I can run it fine within SQL Server Management Studio.
Basically, this is a partial code in the stored proc:
-- export sql server table data to excel 2007
insert into OPENROWSET('microsoft.ace.oledb.12.0',
'Excel 12.0;Database=D: emp est2007.xlsx;',
'SELECT * FROM LicensesrRegion') select * from Licenses
BUT when I have an execute SQL task to run that stored proc in an SSIS package, I received the following error:
Ad hoc access to OLE DB provider 'microsoft.ace.oledb.12.0' has been denied. You must access this provider through a linked server.
Please advise.
PS: I have to run that stored proc in an SSIS package because the SSIS package does some prereq stuff ( create folder, copy template to new Excel output file) then finally calls the aforementioned stored proc.
Thank you in advance.
Thanks!
