SQL 2000 Data Files And Viruses
Sep 24, 2001
We might have an instance of a WIn2000 box that was infected by fun-love. TO the best of my knowledge I have yet to hear of a virus which was actually able to infect a database file or transasction log file. Has anyone ever
dealt with this before?
Thanks

I have 6000+ text files, average size 400 kb, that I need to load into 1 table in Sql Server 2000. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? I thought I would just write a little VB app to loop through all the files in the directory and insert the data into an existing table but there must be an easier way.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to export the data from a number of MSSQL 2000 tables to UTF8 csv files.
Using the bcp that came with MSSQL 2000 didn't work (UTF8 related), so I am now accessing the 2000 database from within MSSQL 2008 R2 Management Studio and use its Import and Export wizard that does make UTF8 exports possible.
But it fails. This is the error I got for one table.
Code:
- Validating (Error)

Error 0xc00470d4: Data Flow Task 1: The code page on input column "cmsGUID" (74) is 1252 and is required to be 65001. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc00470d4: Data Flow Task 1: The code page on input column "PublicationStatus" (79) is 1252 and is required to be 65001. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) ....
What do I have to do?

I proposed on a new server that we separate Data Files, Log Files, tempDB, Backups, etc. onto separate LUNS on a SAN with High Speed Solid State Drives.I was told that with the new technology with solid state SAN's that it would decrease performance and that it did not work the same way as it did when you had RAID 5's etc.I thought that if things were cared out correctly by a SAN Administrator they would know how to configure for optimal performance.

Someone:
I have the need to upload a file via a webpage and then save that file into the database. I would also like to retrieve it and show it to the user.
Can someone show me an example of how this should be done. Also I am concerned of the pros and cons of saving files in the database. Is there a performance hit on the server? Will it make the database unstable? Has anyone had problems doing this?
Any suggestions, samples, and/or help are welcome.

I created some MDF/LDF in SQL 7.0 containing my DB. After that I did not deatch it from the SQL server 7.0 and physically formatted the H.Drive. SQL Server 7.0 data directory is still on D drive, I just formatted the C drive. Before that NT 4.0 and SQL server 7.0 were running but now I installed WINDOWS 2000 Server and SQL server 2000 on this machine.
Is there any way to access the previous DBs (MDF/LDF) and put it into the SQl server 2000.
Thanking you in anticipation

What are these files? Why, when I start MSSQLServerOLAPService or when I process another cube in another OLAP database, these files sre updated?

Hello all. Before my arrival at my current employer, our consultantsphysically set up our MSSQL 7 server as follows:drive c: contains the mssql enginedrive d: contains the transaction logdrive e: contains the data filesNo filegroups were set up and the data files consist of only 1 largephysical file. Currently, our data file is >10GB. When I was trained onthe physical aspects of sqlserver, I was told to never create physical files[color=blue]> 2048MB each. If I did, I could expect inefficient physical storage of[/color]data and slower performance (due to the OS).Our server has 2 RAID-5 arrays. Drive c: and e: are located on the firstarray and drive d: on the second. We're running Windows 4.0 NT Server SP6with NTFS.Can someone comment on the use of 1 single large data file vs. more smallerdata files?

Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to 2005. The problem I am having is that when I try to attach the existing db files I get a message that says "database cannot be upgraded because it is read only or has read only files...."
Thing is... there is no write protection on the files.
Can anyone advise me on how to overcome this problem so that I can attach the db, please?
Thank you
Robert

I have an MVC asp.net application that stores many records in a table on sql server, in its own system. used the system for 2 months, worked fine accessing, changing data.
Now that other users are logging in? there is cross coupling going on. one user gets the data from another users sql search.
In the mvc app it had used the get async method to read the ID record from the db, i set that to synchronous. no effect; the user makes their own login id but that does nt matter either.

Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with SQL Server 2000 Maintenance Plan.
DB Backup job fails to delete old backup files from the file server (I am backing up to the network share - actually, a DFS).
Backup part of the maintenance plan/job succeeds, but then cleanup part fails.
I made sure that service account under which SQL Server Agent is running, has sufficient privileges over the network share by logging in and successfully deleting files in question.
I was not able to locate any log entries either on the SQL Server machine or on the file server machine that would indicate the root of the problem. Even though I turned on auditing for Delete operations for the destination folder, its subfolders and files, I could not find anything in the Security event log.
I would appreciate any ideas on how to troubleshoot and correct this problem.
Thanks in advance,

Hello,
I am attempting to restore the database from within VB.NET application I am making the following 3 calls:
RESTORE FileListOnly FROM DISK = 'C:MyDatabase.dat'
USE Master RESTORE DATABASE MyDatabase FROM DISK = 'C:MyDatabase.dat' WITH NORECOVERY, MOVE 'MyDatabase' TO 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDataMyDatabase.mdf', MOVE 'MyDatabase_log' TO 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLDataLDFMyDatabase.ldf', REPLACE
RESTORE DATABASE MyDatabase FROM DISK = 'C:MyDatabase.dat'
using SMO. This logic works fine with small *.dat files, however when using *.dat file of about 4Gb I get an error on the 3d restore database call:
ExecuteNonQuery failed for Database 'master'.
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
Operator aborted backup or restore. See the error messages returned to the console for more details.

The same program/logic also works fine when I use MS SQL 2005 and it runs fine from MS SQL 2005 Query Analyzer for both 2005 and 2000 databases. There seem to be only problem with MS SQL 2000 from within VB.NET. Anybody has any idea? I'd appreciate any response. Thanks

Hi,I have(had) an old Win2k Server server with about 30 web site databases(SQL 2000) that just went under due to hardware problems. Thankfully, Ihave backups of all the databases plus the MDF and LDF files from thehard drive.I want to move all of these sites and their data to a newer server(Win2003) running SQL2000.What's the best way to copy the database from the old server hard drive(now mounted as an extrnal drive to a local machine; I'm currentlyFTPing all of the web site directories from it to the new server)?Just upload the original data to the new server and then mount the MDFand LDF files within the new SQL server? Or do I restore the backupfiles in the new SQL2000?All of my previous data migrations have been DTS operations from onelive server to another, so no experience with either of the abovescenarios. I'll certainly have a lot more experience at one of them bythe time this weekend is through. Thanks for any help you can offer.

We have some to-disk backups scheduled on our 2000 Enterprise machine - nightly fulls, hourly logs - that go to a network share located on another machine. They were originally stored directly on the same machine as SQL Server, but we changed them to a remote destination within the past few weeks. This works okay, but despite having the maintenance plan set to remove files older than 2 days, old files don't seem to be removed. Understandably, this gets to be a problem when the backup disk becomes filled.
Is there any obvious reason why this option wouldn't work against a network share? I've checked the directory permissions, and the SQL Agent domain account should have no trouble deleting the files.

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring <SelectParameters> <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" /> </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000? (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

Hello
I have a database with two data files configured under primary filegroup. Both the files are set to grow automatically till the disk space is full and both the data files are in the same drive on same physical disk.
When the transactions are happening in the database, how the data is getting distributed on both data files?
Will the transactions is inserted in to the primary data file first and once that is full it will start occupying the secondary data file?. How this distribution is happening?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Arvind
