Apr 28, 2006Is there any way to use sql profiler with sql 2005 express or is there a similar tool that can be used with it? I only have enterprise manager with sql 2000.

I need a tool to see what transactions and in what order are being issued
against the SQL Server Express 2005 DB.
Because of the SQL Server tools don't come with SQL Server Express 2005,
then i run SQL Server 2000's Profiler with SQL Server Express 2005. But It
prompt error "Failed to start a new trace".
FYI, i don't want to use the backend sql trace .in command prompt..
Pls advise me on how to run the sql profiler to trace the transaction being executed in SQL Express 2005?

How on earth can a Profile Trace be run where SSE 2005 is installed??? In the past, with MSDE, we always installed the 'tools' on a local workstation, so that we had EnterPrise Manager and its suite of tools...no problem. Yet, with Management Studio Express (err...Distress?), there's no way to do this! I've scoured the net, and I see threads where people have done it, yet, no one seems to be clear...including Microsoft...on how to obtain this MOST IMPORTANT of all tools for an SQL deployment.
Please Help! Someone...Anyone!...Thank You!...Michael
SQL Server Express 2008 - Missing Client Tools / Management Studio / Profiler

I downloaded and performed a full install of SQL Server Express 2008 Nov CTP. It was installed on a fresh installation of Windows Vista Enterprise x64.
During setup, I checked the 'Client Tools' box which has the description:
"Includes management and development tools: SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Profiler, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor"
The installation ran fine with no errors. After install I looked for the Management Studio but couldnt find it anywhere. No SQL Server Profiler or Database Tuning Advisor either. The only tool that appears to have installed is the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
If I check my Start Menu, the only 2008 items that exist are

I got script for creation trace file on server drive.
and it's work fine,when we migrate to sql server 2005 i take the same script for this trace and he create it successfully but the problem when i try to open this file for example today file:

old files created by sql server 2000 ,i can open it until now but the file created after migrate to sql 2005 ,i got that message above.

In last days I executed a plan SQL 2005 Profiler to review TSQL Duration. When reviewing the results encounter that a SP displays a value of 4037312 in field DURATION which are not normal.

Hi,
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
Me.myTableTableAdapter.Update(Me.myDatabaseDataSet.myTable)
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.

Should We See Replication Filter Where Clause Text In Profiler TextData On SQL Server 2005?

We have Merge Replication publications for SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition subscribers.
Some articles have filter statements that send rows to multiple subscribers, based on the value of Host_Name() supplied at run-time.
Our publications work for most subscribers, but we have at least one subscriber who downloads too many rows from one of the filtered tables.
When we run the Select SQL from the article's Filter statement it returns the intended 4 rows for this subscriber.
We cut and pasted the filter statement into query analyzer, substituted the subscriber's value for Host_Name(), executed the statement, and got the proper 4 rows for this subscriber in the results.
But when this subscriber syncs her Compact Edition database it downloads 10 rows - the proper 4 rows that the filter statement should pass, plus 6 other rows that she should not download.
Our hypothesis is that the Filter statement is not properly applied to the article when this subscriber syncs.
Other subscribers get the proper rows when they sync, so the publication's filter statement works in some cases, for some values of Host_Name().
We'd like to see the application of the filter statement at run-time (sync-time), but we have not found the text of the filter statement in SQL Profiler output. Should we expect to see the text of the filter statement in SQL Profiler output?
Is there a better way to debug this error?

I cant find how i can do that in VB.net Express.In Web developer there are no problem to connect to a remote SQL server but i cant find it in VB.net Express. Aug 18, 2006This problem only occurs after deployment, not when debugging. In the table I am having a problem with I have an ID field designated as the primary key with the identity increment set to 1 and the identity seed set to 1. There is no data in the table when deployed. I can add records to the datagridview control but when I try updating the dataset I get this error indicating that the ID field already has a value of 1 present. If I close the application and re-start it, the exception no longer occurrs when I update the dataset. I am including the code to update the tables incase something is wrong there. Any suggestions?

I created a Product database table using Visual Basic 2005 Express and SQL Server 2005 Express. I have just added a new column [Picture] to the database table, which of course, should store an image or picture of a product. I am writing to kindly ask you guys for help .
i) How do I include image files into this column [Picture]?
ii) How do I get this image to display on Visual Basic 2005 Express form, so that when a product is selected the product image is displayed accordingly?

Why Can't I Get SQL Express 2005 And VB Studio Express 2005/2008to Work Together?

This is what I have done.
1. Installed VB.NET IDE 2008 and SQL Server Compact 2005. IDE requires upgrade of database to 3.0 version which I allowed it to do. After the database was upgraded, I did an amount of coding work in the IDE and then tried to go back to do more database work in SQL. However the database then could not be opened in SQL Server Compact 2005. An error said that because it had been upgraded, it could not be read. It was requiring me to run 'upgrade.exe'. I had no idea what this meant and could find no upgrade available online.
2. Removed VB.NET IDE 2008 and installed 2005 instead. However, the file extension on the SQL Server Compact database is .sdf, but the IDE is requiring a .mdf extension. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to save or to have the desired extension, but I cannot.
Questions:
1. Do SQL Express 2005 and VB Studio Express 2008 work together?
2. If so, how?
It seems as though application each requires a different version of the database. If the database is usable in one, it is not usable in another.

I downloaded and install SQL Server Express 2005 Edition SP2 - Since SQL Server Express 2005 Edition SP1 does not work with Vista
But when I try to run the collection app or if I try to download and install the Amazon version I get the following error message:

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be cause by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
I need any advice you can give me to solve this problem, how to change the default settings, because I do not know where to start.

With Visual Web Developer I can connect to a Sql server. What is the difference between these enviroments ? How can I do the same with Visual Basic.NET ?

Getting Up And Running With Visual SQL Server 2005 Express And Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Apr 11, 2006I've downloaded and installed both of these (VWD installs both) and have been trying to run through the walkthrough of setting up a web application which supports membership. However, no matter what I do I invariably get errors like the following:

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I'm concerned why VWD and VSQL express versions don't run correctly out of the box (so to speak). I'm not an expert on configuring these services -- but that's the point of offering these tools to hobbyists: So we can learn about how to make some of these great applications using MS tools.
My configuration::
Windows XP SP2 -- clean machine as of about a month ago, never had any dev tools, web servers, or the like on it.
IIS is installed and the service says its running
VSQL and VWD express versions installed (no errors on installation)
SQL server service indicates it is running
.Net 2.0 framework installed (no errors on installation)
Note: I've tried installing on two separate machines. Obviously I'm missing something fundamental.
Would someone please help me go through the million things I [apparently] need to do to configure all these tools so I can get on to actually coding up my first web application? If this is documented somewhere, all I can say is I tried to find it but it certainly wasn't obvious.

I've installed Visual Basic 2005 express edition & tried to connect to SQL Server 2005 express edition. I noticed that VB2005 Express Edition doesn't have any OLEDB provider for SQL Server. The only OLEDB Provider is for M.Access. Is this correct? if so, what should i do if i want to connect SQL Server 2005 express edition with VB2005 express edition by using OLEDB connection type?

I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again.
