SQL 2005 Express And Sharepoint Services 2.0 SP2
May 31, 2006
If I upgrade my sharepoint Database from MSDE that comes with sharepoint, to SQL 2005 Express, will I lose my no limit on the Database size?
Normally MSDE has limit of 2GB but I guess it doesn't when installed with Sharepoint services. So if I upgrade to 2005 express, will I then get a 4 GB limit on size?
Thanks for your help

Hi, I'm new to the forum and also to SQL Server.
Has anybody implemented SharePoint Windows Services on top of SQL Express? I'm trying just that, but i'm encountering some problems when trying to enable Full-Text search. The configuration page for this option says that the database i'm running on does not support full-text search.
Thanks in advance,
Ulises

Hi
I've recently upgraded from MSDE (SBS 2003 SP1 with .NET 2.0) to SQL Express SP1.
I am trying to enable full text sarching on the Sharepoint instance but whenever I go to Sharepoint central administaton and text sarching it reports that the SQL server installed does not suport this.
I can't find any documentation on this anywhere.
Admidatley the machine is a domain controller and I know this isn't recommended but surely this shouldn't stop this from working?
All components where selected when installing SQLExpress and I recieved no errors.
Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many kind thanks

I then goto Grant database access, specify the SQL server name, get promted for a username and password that has access SQL Reportserver and get the following error "The group name could not be found"
Does anyone have any ideas?

I found out the battery in my UPS isn't working anymore. My server down a couple of times with power outages before I figured out it wasn't doing its job.
I make backups of my Sharepoint databases using the gui interface in Sharepoint, so I have backups and have used them for a couple of the outages.
What I was wondering (I'm a newb to SQL), if I do a checkdb and get no errors when the databases (sharepoint_config and sharepoint_data) are marked suspect, is there an easy way to get them back online without using the backups. The only reason I ask, there is data entered in the 23hrs (daily backups) since the last backup that I wouldn't mind keeping.
Also, I seem to have gotten (from reading some of the posts here) my sharepoint_config stuck in emergency mode and can't find a post on how to get it back to normal/online mode ;)

I get the following error when I try to navigate to a report/model/data source, stored in a Sharepoint Document Library using a Sharepoint URL based on an Extranet or Intranet zone - but it works OK using the url for the Default zone:
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.SecurityZoneNotSupportedException: The specified path refers to a SharePoint zone that is not supported. The default zone path must be used.
Is this a limitation of the SQLRS-WSS3 integration or is there a workaround?
Many thanks to anyone who can help!

Hello Everyone,
I have been banging my head against the wall with trying to integrate SharePoint 2007 and SQL Reporting Services. I have been following these 2 websites down to the letter in trying to configure everything:
1. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326356.aspx <---Microsoft's Steps
2. http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2007/02/19/microsoft-sql-server-2005-sp2-reporting-services-integration-with- wss-3-0-and-moss-2007.aspx <---SharePoint Blog Group
Basically my setup is as follows:
Server 1 = SharePoint 2007
Server 2 = SQL Server Reporting Services SP2 / SharePoint 2007 services
Server 3 = Database
Server1 is setup and running SharePoint 2007 fine with no problems. It was installed under the complete option with its own server farm. Then with the Server2, SharePoint 2007 is installed again, also under the complete complete option, and configured to join Server1's server farm. In this way, Server2 is able to supply Server1 with services and it has been said that if you are using 2 different servers, one for SharePoint and one for Reporting Services, you need to have an instance of SharePoint on the reporting services box. With a SharePoint "front-end" the reporting-services now has a way to also join Server1s farm.
This is where the headache begins....the SharePoint install is successful on Server2 and the services are started as evident through the Central Administration page. The next task is to install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and then the SQL Server 2005 SP2 patch.
After installing SQL Server and the SP2 patch, you go into the SQL Reporting Services Configuration Manager and setup the Report Server, Database, and SharePoint integration. I configure everything to run under the "DefaultAppPool" under IIS, and I get green accepted checkboxes on everything.
Finally, the last step is to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies on Server1. This add-in actually allows the connection between SharePoint on Server1 to the Reporting Services on Server2. The install is successful and the extra options for reporting pop up under Central Administration page. When configuring the final connection under the Central Admin I referred to the following Microsoft Page:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb326213.aspx
For the "manage integration settings", I set the report server to Server2 and use Windows Authentication. Then for the "grant database access" I use Server2 and login with my credentials...
PROBLEM: Then for the final step of setting the server defaults, I click on the link and get the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode. "
I have googled and tried installing/uninstalling several times, but it seems that I keep getting hung up here. When trying to access reports on the ReportServer, the same error message comes up.
If anyone is familiar with integration between SharePoint and SQL Reporting Services, and may have any ideas/comments/advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance! =)

hello good afternoon, I am having this issue, I need to move reporting services from one server to another, but I need that credentials, roles and reports stay the same. But as the reporting services is integrated with sharepoint, dont know if I can move both at the same or it has to be done one at a time. this is just data migration, but still I will like to Know how it can be done having the same structure with the roles and credentials. or it is prefered to do a ghost?? but the issue will be that we have the reporting services in one place and the data in another... donīt know how this will affect. thanks in advanced for the help.

Well, I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 Reporting Services installed and configured in sharepoint integrated mode, so I am deploying reports in sharepoint libraries. Also I configured sharepoint to use forms authentication with builtin AspNetSqlMembership provider, but after this action I couldnot open reports through sharepoint library, instead of this, error was displayed mentioned below. I searched and found hotfix Cumulative Update 3 build 3186 for this issue, request it from microsoft support and applied it, but nothing has changed!
Error I have been experiencing is following:
An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server.
Verify that the report server is available and configured for
SharePoint integrated mode. --> The request failed with the error
message:
--
<html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/_layouts/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=
%2f_vti_bin
%2fReportServer%2fReportService2006.asmx">here</a>.</h2>
</body></html>
I continued to dig and find out that this hotfix should update Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.UI.WebParts.dll from version 9.0.3042.0 to new version 9.0.3180.0, but when I checked file version after applying hotfix, it remained the same as was before i.e. 9.0.3042.0. Apparently this cumulative update does not fix this issue.
anyone has any idea how to solve it? Thanks in advance.
sorry for my poor english :-)

Hi. I'm trying to get full-text search working on my SQL 2005 Express with Advanced Services and am having problems. I thought that I installed it correctly, and when I look in the services running, I see it SQL Server Fulltext Search(MSSQLSERVER). Also note that I have SQL Server 2005 Standard installed on this same laptop. I don't know if that Full text Search applies to the Standard, Express or both.
What I do see is that if I connect to the database engine named <mylaptop>, I can see the version is 9.0.1399 and I can see the check box to enable full-text indexing in a particular databases properties. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 1.
However, when I connect to the engine name <mylaptop>SQLExpress, I se the version is 9.0.3042, and I don't see the same check-box to enable full-text indexing. When I run SELECT FULLTEXTSERVICEPROPERTY('IsFullTextInstalled'), I get a 0.
I've never tried this before so I know I'm probably missing something basic. But, I have searched quite a bit and not found my answer. So, I'm looking to you for help.
Thanks in advance.
John.

Hello,
I'm trying to make some reports using the sql 2005 reporting services addin for Visual Web Developer Express 2005. I download the add-in here. So far it installed "successfully". The problem i have is when i try to add a datasource to the report at "Report > Data Sources... " it gives me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Another Error it gives is that when I try to drag a DataSet field from the Website Data Sources toolbox tab the visual web developer crashes :/.
An observation that I don't know if this is ok is when I create a new Data Source it creates an App_Code folder inside where my report is /Reports/ and there it saves the DataSet. Just an observation...
This is my development enviorment:
Laptop:
Windows Vista Home Premium (Up to date)
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 with Service Pack 1
Reporting Add-In for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Server:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
IIS 6.0
ASP.NET 2.0
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
Reporting Services for SQL Server 2005 Express
Here are some pictures of the erros:
Error 1
Error 2
Please could someone help me fix this?
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

When installing SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services, everything installs except OWC11 and Reporting Services. The error is "Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE111033SETUP.CHM." But this is just saying to enter the product key for MS Office.

When I attempt to run the application from the server.Access to the ADO.net Managed Provider 'SqlClientFactory' was denied in the data source with ID 'SqlDataSource' because of security settingsIs there something in the web config that I must change or settings on the server that must be changed for the application to run?

I am using the two programs in the title and use IIS/Web Developer to display locally. All is well. However, when I file transfer to a web server on our intranet web server it fails. The generic aspx pages display, but when I go to login, I get errors indicating can't find the database. (SQL Server does not allow remote connections. Error 26)
I have tried 30+ connection string options and have talked to others in my office more advanced then I and they say my string/s looked fine.
My question is, Can I simply drag/drop my files from my system (inluding the SQL Express MDF file) or am I required to install something from SQL express on the web server to make it work?
Before you ask...Yes, I setup TCP/IP, allowed remote connections, no passwords etc. No matter what I try, I keep getting the above generic error. I can't help but think it has something to do with not having SQL Express installed on the web server.
Please HELP!

While trying to "Set Configuration Database Server" for Windows SharePoint Services I receive the error:
"Cannot open database "SharePoint" requested by the login.
The login failed. (Error code: 4060)"
I set up a test bed server 'SNET' with WinServer03 SP1, IIS 6. SQL Server Express, and SharePoint Services.
In "Set Configuration Database Server" I used:
Database server: snetsqlexpress
SQL Server database name: SharePoint (I know real imaginative)
Database connection type: * Use Windows authentication
X Connect to existing configuration database.
If I try "Use SQL Authentication"
"Login failed for user <username>. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (Error code: 18452)"
First let me say that while I'm not a newbie, as usual I've bitten off more than I can chew comfortably. Server '03, Active Directory, IIS 6, SQLExpress, and SharePoint are all relatively new to me, hence the test bed server, and I'm on a pretty steep learning curve.
But what's life without a challenge.
So the short and sweet of it is can somebody point me in the right direction to find the root cause of this error. I do have other programs running with this instance of SQLExpress and doing so quite happily. And I've given myself god privileges in AD just to try to get around this.

Folks, Today I saw that an upgraded(?) version of SQL Server express was available. Since it is supposed to have the ability to generate a script to put a database on a hosted server I decided to get it. Bad decision. I uninstalled my previous version of SSE. and attempted to install the SP2 version with Advanced Services. After three installs I finally got the server to start. Now I can not log onto it using Management Studio Express. I know the server is running because I can see it in the task manager and I can open one database used with an ASP.NET web site through Visual Studio. Can you provide any suggestions on how to find my server or server instances through Management Studio? Do I need to remove all sql server related items and do a complete reinstall? I can see the server in the Configuration Manager and in the Surface configuration manager. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have spent way too much time on this. Thanks

Our new version of a VB.net 2005 program uses
Install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
While upgrading a client over PCAnywhere in another state, I inadvertantly installed
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services
I have had an absolute nightmare with SQL 2005 uninstalling it from a laptop on my desk, so you can understand why I don't want to try uninstalling the Advanced Services version on a computer over PCAnywhere.
However, the remote computer does not have IIS on it, which prompts a warning form Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services.
So, the simple question is, if the program works Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition then I assume it will work with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services, since it doesn't use any advance services.
Please advise.

Hi,
I had previously installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition (and later, SQl Server Management studio express). Recently, I wanted to try out 'Reporting services' and downloaded 'SQL server 2005 express Toolkit'.
After installation, I have a new program group 'Visual studio 2005' . I started that with 'New Report Project'. I tried to attach an existing database (to be precise, in 'connection string' part) , but it is giving error saying
'An error has occured while establishing connection to Server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005 (???) ,..... may be caused the fact that under default setting SQL Server does not allow remote connections '
I tried my existing SQL Server 2005 express edition Surface Area Configuration and it is configured for accepting remote connection using both TCP/IP & named pipes.
Now, I have following doubts:
1. Do I have to download & install SQL Server 2005 Express edition wiht Advanced options, if I wish to use Reporting services or I can use the existing SS2005EE along with Toolkit services?
2. If answer is yes to above question, how do I attach a database?
If you can throw some light on above, I shall be very grateful to you.
Thanks & regards,
Sathya

Problem is that I get the message "64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit)."
Is there any way that I can remedy this?

I have SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a development box that I also want to have installed side-by-side with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition so I can develop apps using either edition based on the features I need (or don't need). From what I understand from sifting through other posts is that side-by-side installs of these two editions is supported and I should setup a named instance for each edition (SQLEXPRESS for the express edition and MSSQLSERVER for the standard edition). Is this setup accurate or is there another/better way?
Also, does anybody know if side-by-side installations of Reporting Services is also supported? If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Reporting Services, will there be two different report servers running in IIS? Since there are different features in Reporting Services between the two editions, I'm not sure how side-by-side installations will effect one another.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Tony
