If I have a database that is on SQL Express 2005 on a local PC can I move it to a SQL2000 server without issue? If not what might I expect to have to do to acheive this. The database itself has run previously on MSDE.

As I said in the subject I've a problem trying to restore a backup of a previous db created in sql 2000 server
When I try to do it I recive the following message:

I'm thinking of migrating our 12 user SQL 2000 db to SQL 2005 Express.The db is about 2 gb. Does anyone know if there is a no of users or dbsize or other restrictions on SQL 2005 Express. How about performancerelative to SQL 2000? Thanks in advance....

I'm about to download the VWD ASP.NET 2.0 with SQL Express 2005, but i currently have Visual studio.net 1.1 and SQL Server 2000 installed on my PC, XP Pro.
Has anyone had problems with this or are they happy to run along side one another without over writing projects already created in the older versions?

Currently on my development machine i have SQL Express 2005 running.
On the production server, they have SQL 2000. So I need to get one of my databases from this server to the other one. From my understanding you can't export from 2005 to 2000 because of the drastic change.
What is the easiest way for me to do this?
create the tables manually and export the data in CSV and import it that way?

OS => Windows Server 2003
SQL => SQL Server 2005
Client Machines:
OS => WinXP sp2
SQL => 2000, 2005 express
The developers at work connect remotely to the server. Some of them have the "client SQL 2005 express" and others are using "SQL 2000"
Over the next week I plan to upgrade all the developers to 2005 Standard.
I have performed an upgrade of '2005 express' to '2005 standard' and encountered no problems. However I have no experience upgrading the 2000 client.
Can anyone suggest a strategy (fresh install/upgrade)or highlight any pitfalls that I should avoid.

whenever i modified the connection of my current database...I'll always got an error,when asking for "server name"..it says [DBNETLIB...etc]Named Pipes etc error..my current database was SQLEXPRESS and i want to change it as an SQL OLEDB,2000,2005.. but as i said il always got an error..sometimes it says "SQL server does not exit..ODBC" etc...when im entering the "server name"..so i could only used Access or SQLEXPRESS server database.. what should i do with the error?? thanks for helping again..

Recently I decided to start using DotNetNuke, which uses an SQL Server database. My webhoster offers SQL Server 2000, and I was able to install and run DNN successfully there. However, I wish to have a local copy of DNN on my PC with the same contents as is on the web. It means that I need either to convert SQL Server 2000 database to my local SQL Server 2005 Express database, or vice versa.
Although I programmed in (Visual) FoxPro for many years, I am new to SQL Server and I am overwhelmed by the vast number of new terms. I've downloaded the migration tool to convert an Access 2000 DB to a SQL DB. The VB code utilizes DAO (3.6) for hourly automatic compaction and the creation of an encrypted security database. ADO is used for the data maintenance functions. I expect the current connection methodology of ODBC using Jet 4.0 will need to be modified (many articles here address this). All the SQL code is inline and also must be modified. The Coldfusion code utilizes Micrsoft Access with Unicode via an ODBC connection with only SQL Select statements. At another job, I migrated an Informix 7 database to MS SQL 7 and for the most part the SQL code remained the same except for the wildcard spec from * to %.
I'm looking for insights and/or shortcuts on this effort, primarily in the SQL command mods area. I'm perusing the threads here as we speak, but hoped someone knew of a specific thread I could go to....laziness is alive and well for us chronologically gifted people, i.e. over 55.

I want to have transactional replication setup with SQL 2000 as a publisher and SQL Express 2005 as a subscriber? Where can I get some documentation around that?
Basically, the problem I am stuck with is that while registering the subscriber in SQL2000, SQL2000 cannot recognize my SQL Express 2005 instance as a subscriber. I have tried both SQL Ent. Mgr. and sp_addsubscription.

I have 2 MSDE 2000 Instances installed on Windows 2003 Server STd w/ SP1.
The application relating to the default instance is being upgraded and will require SQL 2005 Express.
What is the best approach? So the named instance of MSDE 2000 still functions correctly.
Upgrade default instance of MSDE to SQL 2005, or install SQL 2005 Express to own path and restore the DB accross? Then remove the Default Instance of MSDE 2000.
Both MSDE 2000 Instances are listed in Add/Remove Programs.

I know it is possible to install the two together and that they can coexist, but I am worried about how the two SQL installations wil behave when being updated with patches, security updates, service packs etc. do you run the possibility of them corrupting each other? Therefor it is vital to know if Microsoft supports the two running on the same system.

Well, i received a message from my hosting company that they go to remove the SQL 2000 Standard and replace it by SQL 2005 Express.
What do I have to think about that? Can this give database connection problems?

I want to replicate data from sql server 2000 to a sql server express 2005 box.
I can dts data across..but I want to be able to set up push replication from the Sql Server 2000 box, but the option to push the data to the Sql Express server in the GUI does not come up only Sql Server 2000 boxes are listed. Initially I will be using Snapshot replication but would like to eventually move on to transactional rep if only I can get it to push the data across.

I have an old Windows 2000 BackOffice server (Retail but with no media) that hosts a small database (<50mb) that is hosted on the local SQL Server 2000 installation. The network has 8 PCs that connect to the database via ODBC connections. I just purchased a new server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (OEM).
What I€™m Trying to Accomplish:
I want to decommission the old 2000 BackOffice server and move the database to the new 2003 Standard server. I€™m trying to do this on the cheap, so I really want to avoid spending thousands on a new SQL server license.
Things I€™m Considering:
1) Migrating the database from SQL 2000 Standard to SQL 2005 Express
2) Moving the database from SQL 2000 Standard to MS Access
3) Purchasing SQL Server 2005 licenses and upgrading
4) Purchasing SQL 2000 Server licenses
The options are pretty much listed in my order of preference. I€™d like to move from SQL 2000 Server to SQL 2005 Express, but I haven€™t really found a lot of material on the subject since people customarily go the other way.
Any advice or alternative recommendations would be much appreciated!

Sorry for my question, I know, that there were several topics about sql 2000 vs SQL 2005, I read all them but unfortunately I haven't got the correct answer. I must install my intranet application that uses asp.net 2.0 and SQL 2005 Express to a Windows 2003 server with SQL 2000. It is possible to install SQL 2005 Express beside the 2000 server? It is very important, because I have no possibility to test and that Win2003 server there are a few programs that use SQL 2000. What will happen with the 2000 databases and their programs if I install the 2005 Express to the server? They will work fine with 2000 and my application will work with 2005?
Or instead it should I configure my application to use 2000 capable connentionstrings?
Hey, This is my first time posting here but here goes nothing...
Ok I upgraded an xp machine running to sql express 2005 by doing the inplace upgrade. The upgrade process went great, after the upgrade I could connect to the databases that had been upgraded using the management studio.
BUT.
When I try to connect to the databases using the third party software which had always worked in the past I get the error when trying to access from both the client and server machines.
[DBNETLIB][Connection open()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
I then tried setting up SQL express 2005 on another xp station just to test how things worked if it wasn't an upgrade. I installed, attached the databases (which I copied to that local machine) and I was able to connect to them through the third party software from the server machine, but not client machines. The client machines gave me the same error as above.
Does anyone have any ideas, I have been talking to the third party support but haven't gotten any where yet... does anyone have any suggestions?

I was wondering whether it is possible to query linked servers in SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 if those servers linked to are SQL Server 2000 machines?
I have added some linked servers to express and queried them, however the login timeout is expiring. I thought it might be because of an incompatability.
