Best Option To Update Every Jan 1st

Feb 27, 2006

I have a vacation request app I'm designing, and it has a VacationData Table with TotalVac, UsedVac, VacLeft, VacationCarriedOver, and VacCompleted.
I need to take the VacLeft and divide by 2 and place that data in the following two spots, one in the VCO and add it to the TotalVac, which is pulled from another table w/hire date and other info.
I only need to run this on Jan 1 of every year, any suggestions?

SQL Server Does Not Support FOR UPDATE?

May 17, 2004

When I have FOR UPDATE in query string I get SQL error:

FOR UPDATE cannot be specified on a READ ONLY cursor.

I wonder if MS SQL Server does this type of positional update differently than DB2 and Oracle.

Thanks.

SQL Server 2012 :: Running Sum With Reset Option And BULK Update

Jul 22, 2015

I have come up with an issue where I want to update data in a table using bulk/SET update to get the result shown in below code with output in column titled "Arrear Amt".

Please use this test data.

CREATE TABLE ##vOD_Calc
(
Seq_No INT ,
Contract_id INT ,
Rental_id INT ,
Actual_OD INT ,
Logic_OD INT ,
Due_dte DATETIME ,

[Code] .....

Logic required is that once the sum of column [ArrearAmt] of current row and all previous rows becomes greater than $100 then column [ChArrrearAmt] should show that summed up value and in else case the column [ChArrrearAmt] should show the same value as that of column [ArrearAmt].

Once the column [ChArrrearAmt] reaches the threshold of $100 then the same cycle should start again i.e. in above example rental#1 had $37.17 < $100 then rental#1 + rental#2 is also < $100 and at rental#3 sum of rental#1, rental#2 and rental#3 becomes $111.51 which is greater than $100 so its updated in column [CHArrrearAmt]. The same cycle start overs from rental#4 onwards however the summation of [ArrearAmt] will now begin after rental#4 onwards and not from the starting.

Below is the loop based SQL script which handles the above situation, however in BULK its a total deterioration of performance if thousands of rows are to be processed i.e. with a contract having multiple rentals.

The case here is that I have to use the result of previously updated column value of [ChArrrearAmt] to take decision for the next row, however with BULK update since the row is not yet updated with latest amount therefore the decision on next row is also giving wrong result.

This is the code with which I have achieved to update the column 'chArrear Amount', however its a loop based solution and performance killer.

INSERT INTO ##vOD_Calc_loop
( Rows_count ,
contract_id
)
SELECT COUNT(*) ,
T.Contract_id
FROM ##vOD_Calc T
GROUP BY T.Contract_id

[Code] ....

Suppress Error During Update Process

Jun 27, 2014

I have a simple update statement that will update one field, and that field is part of the primary key. During the update process, some of the rows will cause duplicate error. Is there a way to update the table and suppress the error? What I am looking for is a way to update the records that it can and ignore those it cannot. Right now, the entire process is terminated if duplicate error occurs.

Package Update And Build Process

Jul 16, 2007

My SSIS solution has about hundred packages and time to time I have to edit a package. I understand I could use 'Build' command to compile only updated package, as opposed to Rebuild which recomplies all of the packages.

Nevertheless, in both cases SSIS opens all of the packages in design environment before compilation. My packages are saved in SourceSafe and that process takes quite long and I was wondering if there was any other way to compile only updated package where none of the other packages are opened during Build/Rebuild process? For example we could use dtutil to deploy only updated packages without running Package Installation Wizard.

SQL 2005 MultiProcessor Support

Sep 24, 2007

I have a Dual Quad Core Xeon processor server running SQL 2005 Standard. When installed, one processor license was given, even though two OTS boxes are present. When looking at SQL Sever Properties>Processor, it shows 0-7 available CPU's. When running a large table insert and looking into TaskManager, it appears only 1 cpu out of 8 viewed are being hit and hard. The total CPU usage is like 13%. And SQL Server seems slow. Any idea what gives? Why would it show only 1 CPU being hit (maxed out) and the rest doing nothing? Is there a way to tell if SQL Sees all processors (licensing issue?) other than in the SQL Sever Properties>Processor? Thanks.

Support For SQL Express2005 My Host Provider Does Not Provide Support?

Dec 5, 2005

Reader Community
I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site.  Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly.  Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005.  The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?
Look forward to all comments?

FormView - Update Process Completes With No Error But Records Is Not Changed

Jul 24, 2006

Greetings,
I have setup a FormView which functions as it should but after the user input is updated, the table record stays unchanged, and when I trap the FormView1_ItemUpdated and look at the SqlDataSource1.UpdateCommand, it shows this:
UPDATE [aspnet_test] SET first_name = '', last_name = '', email = '' WHERE id = @original_ID
Here is most of the code I am using:<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server"   DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="id, first_name, last_name"   OnItemUpdating="FormView1_ItemUpdating" OnItemUpdated="FormView1_ItemUpdated" > .. // my ItemEditTempate is here.</asp:FormView>
<EditItemTemplate>First Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("first_name") %>' runat="server" ID="author_name" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />Last Name: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("last_name") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox1" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br />E-mail: <asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("email") %>' runat="server" ID="TextBox2" Columns="20"></asp:TextBox><br /><br /><asp:Button ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" Text="Update" CommandName="Update" /><asp:Button ID="CancelButton" runat="server" Text="Cancel" CommandName="Cancel" /> </EditItemTemplate>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ASPNETDBConnectionString1 %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT id, first_name, last_name, email FROM aspnet_test where id = 1"UpdateCommand="UPDATE [aspnet_test] SET first_name = '<%# first_name %>',   last_name = '<%# last_name %>',   email = '<%# email %>'   WHERE id = @original_ID ">
<UpdateParameters><asp:Parameter Name="original_ID" Type="Int32" /></UpdateParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>
Any idea where the @original_ID is supposed to get its value from, or why does the SQL command shows blank fields? Thanks
Eric.

Process Analysis Services Task Missing Update Dimension

Jan 20, 2006

In the SSIS Analysis Services processing task, I was wondering if
anyone knows why some dimensions do not have the Process Update option
in the list of options for processing them? If there is
only Process Full, Process Data, and Unprocess, I am not sure how
I can do incremental updates without scripting.

Also, will this affect the cubes if a full process is performed?

Any help is much appreciated!

Sql Server 2005 Diagram Support

Mar 30, 2006

For some reason, when I try to access a database diagram on our new 2005 SQL Server, I get the following error msg:
"Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner"
It then goes on to instruct me to either use Properties > Files or ALTER AUTHORIZATION to change the database owner.
Well, I've done that - and it clearly shows that there is an owner of the database, but even if I log in as that owner, the error msg continues to come up everytime I try to access Diagrams.
I found a post to run the following stored procedure which will set the sql server compatability level:
EXEC sp_dbcmptlevel database_name, 90
After running that in the query window of Management Stduio, I get the following msg below on the Messages tab:
"DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator."
I then try to create a new diagram again, and I get the same initial error (at the top of this post).
What do I need to do in order to create a DB diagram?

Confusion Over SQL 2005 Standard CPU Support

Feb 6, 2007

I'm a little confused over the maximum CPU count supported by SQL 2005 Standard Edition (this particular edition supports four CPUs).

Does the figure refer to four physical CPUs regardless of whether they are dual-cored or hyperthreaded, or does the figure refer to the number of logical CPUs available to the OS?

Let me cut to the chase - if I purchase a server containing four dual-core CPUs and install SQL Server 2005 Standard, will SQL Server see the eight CPUs and utilise a maximum of four of these, or will it be able to use all eight (because there are actually only four physical CPUs)?

Thanks, Chris.

BCP Support In SQL Server 2005 - Doubts

Sep 4, 2007

Hi friends,

I am currently using SQL Server 2000 server. I have run some BCP command to import data to SQL from CSV and Text files with the help of FORMAT files through Windows Scheduler.

My doubt is, if I swich to SQL Server 2005, whether the same BCP commands will supported? If no, What are the things I need to do to run the BCP commands in 2005 as in 2000?

I heard that the BCP utility is no longer support in 2005 and this can be done thru SSIS utility. Is it right...?
Is SQL Server 2005 support to use the BCP commands without going to SSIS utility?

Please help. Thanks in advance.

Sethu.

Support For 3.5 Merge Replication Under SQL 2005

Dec 3, 2007

Been fiddling with SQL 2008 Nov CTP but now looking to deploy a 3.5 .sdf project using Merge replication. The 3.1 install sets up a web endpoint with sqlcesa30.dll and I have been running subscriptions just fine with that. But now I want to be able to create and manage my 3.5 publicatoin/subscriptions under SQL 2005 management console. I don't see how to create 3.5 sql ce databases there or to use 'configure web synchronization' to get a 3.5 web endpoint for syncing.

Am I missing something simple like registering the SQL CE 3.5 dlls to work with SQL management studio?
I want to install to this a production server with the smallest possible footprint and I do NOT want to inject SQL 2008 Nov CTP bits into that production server at all! So, how to deploy SQL CE 3.5 to production and set up 3.5 merge replication under SQL 2005?

OCSP Support In SQL Server 2005?

Oct 2, 2007

Hi All,

I'm trying to ensure that the access to my symmetric key is validated every use via the use of (X.509 Certifcate) Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP).

Question: When a Certificate encrypted Symmetric Key is opened in SQL Server 2005, does SQL Server support OCSP revocation checking?

If it does support OCSP: Can the Certificate Revocation List Distribution Point of the certificate only contain an OCSP distribution point (instead of also including HTTP, LDAP, etc)?

This is really important as I do not want any cached CRL to authorise the access to this highly sensitive data...

Platform:
- SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 R2
- Certificate Services on Windows Server 2003 R2

Refer to:
USE AdventureWorks;
OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY SymKeyMarketing3
DECRYPTION BY CERTIFICATE MarketingCert9;
GO

Is DTS Support In 2005 Going Away Permanently At Some Point?

Mar 6, 2007

I hope this is the right forum to post my question in.

Does anyone know if or when Microsoft will discontinue support for 2000 DTS Legacy packages within SQL Server 2005? We€™re in the process of migrating from 2000 to 2005 and have a lot of packages to migrate to Integration Services. We€™re having problems migrating the packages because quite a few of them are complex and won€™t run after migrating to IS without a major rewrite. Right now it seems that those packages will run just fine under the Legacy folder on the 2005 instance with the data connections pointed to 2005 databases. We€™d just like to plan appropriately if we absolutely have to migrate those packages to IS at some point soon. We realize that we'll need to create new packages using IS, though.

So I€™d appreciate it if anyone has heard anything to please let me know. I apologize if this has been asked before, but I couldn€™t seem to find any posts on it.
 Thanks!

Help Needed For Transaction Support In SQL Server 2005

Jun 21, 2006

Hi,I have 2 stored procedure 1st insert the data in parent tables and return the Id. and second insert child table data using that parent table id as paramenter. I have foreign key relationship between these two tables also.my data layer methods somewhat looks likepublic void Save(order value){using (TransactionScope transactionScope = new TransactionScope(TransactionScopeOption.Required))         {              int orderId =  SaveOrderMaster(value);            value.OrderId = orderid;              int childId = SaveOrderDetails(value);             //complete the transaction              transactionScope.Complete();        }}here  1. SaveOrderMaster() calls an stored procedure InserOrderData which insert a new record in order table and return the orderId  which is identity column in Order table.2. SaveOrderDetails() call another sotored procedure which insert order details in to table "orderdetail" using the foreign key "orderid".My Problem:Some time the above method works correctly but when i call it repeatledly (in a loop) with data,  some time it gives me foreign key error which state that orderid is not existsin table Order. This will happen only randomly. I am not able to figureout the reason. does some one face the same problem. if yes, what could be the reason and/or solution.
