SQL 2005 Standard On Vista RTM

Dec 6, 2006

Hi All,

I've read a number of threads on here where users have managed to get 2005 working on Vista RTM.

I'm having no such luck however. The issue I have is as follows:

Clean Install of Vista RTM Ultimate 32bit.

Attempt to install 2005 Standard.

This error appears:

SQL Server Setup Failed to compile the Managed Object Format (MOF) file D:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Sharedsqlmgmproviderxpsp2up.mof. To proceed, see "Troubleshooting an Installation of SQL Server 2005" or "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help documentation.

I've read elsewhere that I need Sp2 of SQL Server. I can't install SQL server though so that makes it hard to apply a service pack.

I have also tried the above with the Developer edition of Sql 2005.

Has anyone encountered this issue and got past it?

T.I.A.

Glen

Surely Microsoft didn't release Vista without having its latest version of their database working on it?

Installing Sql 2005 Standard On Vista Home Premium

Jun 6, 2007

I have not been able to get iis to be seen correctly. I have turned on every service with IIS7 available and still get warning IIS in not running. I have changed computer name to all caps and I am running on admin account. I see IIS7 when I run localhost. What is wrong here. When I go on to install system I get stuck at detecting installed IIS. As I move forward with install owc, DB services,Notification, Intagrated, and workstation components all fail. I cant move onto sp2 because nothing is installed. I have worked on this for months off and on and now I have to have it running for deadline. Any help would be appreciated. I also have VS2005 and office 2007 on this system. I have worked on this the past two days solid and I have to have it now.

Steps To Install 64 Bit Sql Server 2005 Standard Edition In Windows Vista 64 Ultimate

Jul 25, 2007

Hi

I have just take my system back to the factory defaults after some unsuccessful attempts to install 64 bit and 32 bit sql server on my notebook. I am looking to use either 32 or 64 bit (I have disks for both) and I would like to get a step by step guide that will help me through the process.

I tried an install of the 64 bit version, applied SP2, and it went smoothly but the report services browser didn't work. I tried to change some IIS settings but I didnt document what I changed so i was unable to undo the changes that i made when these didnt work.

I tried several combinations of things but then decided that a clean install on a clean system was the best option.

I need the SQL engine , reporting services, analysis services - and possibly integration services - i am not sure if i need notification services (dont know what it does anyway!)

I also have vs2005 - should i install that first or after sql server 2005 SP2?

Thanks

Doug

SQL Server Standard 2005, SQL Mobile 2005 Data Encryption Issues

Jul 26, 2007

Hi,

I have a central database server that is runnning on SQL 2005 standard edition and Windows server 2003 standard as OS.

I realise that I can use SQL statements to encrypt and decrypt the data inside the standard SQL.

However, how do I read and write the data via an web application coded in C#.net and is also running on the same machine?

Another issue is, I need to replicate some of the data in this SQL standard over to a SQL mobile running on a mobile device running on Windows CE 5.0.

The mobile device also needs to read and write data to the encrypted data via a C#.net application.

Question is, with all these requirements to be met, can I use AES? I know that AES is not available on Windows XP and Windows Server 2000 and I cant find AES in the .net compact framework.

how do i go about ensuring security? how do I ensure that the symmetric key is the same both on the SQL standard and SQL mobile?

thank you.

Problems Upgrading Database Engine 2005 Express To 2005 Standard

Nov 7, 2006

I'm having problems upgrading the SQL express 2005 database engine services to 2005 standard 32 bit. I've also tried to install sql 2005 service pack 1 "SQLServer2005SP1-KB913090-x86-ENU.exe" and it did the same thing, upgraded everything except the database engine services. After that I tried another install from the run command "Z:Setup.exe SKUUPGRADE=1" and that failed at the same place as well.

My windows version is is 5.2 (build 3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447:service pack 1

Below is a copy of the error log file from the install, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Upgrade From SQL Express 2005 Report Server With Advanced Services To SQL 2005 Standard Fails

Feb 25, 2008

I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:

SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer
ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.

After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.

I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

Merge Replication - SQL Server 2005, Windows Vista And MSVisual Studio 2005

Jul 11, 2007

Hello everybody!

I hope that someone could help me.

I have a problem when i start sincronyzing with the emulator of MSVS2005 to SQL2005 in Windows Vista. I have the same program in the emulator, but sincronyzing with windows XP Pro and no problem...

I configure the connection to use the IUSR.

The source code that i use:

repl.InternetUrl = @"http://laptop/SQLMobileIIS/sqlcesa30.dll";

repl.Publisher = @"laptop";

repl.PublisherDatabase = @"database";

repl.PublisherSecurityMode = SecurityType.NTAuthentication;

repl.Publication = @"Pubdatabase";

repl.Subscriber = @"SQLMobile";

repl.SubscriberConnectionString = @"Data Source='" + nomeFicheiroBD + "';Password='3409'";

The error that returns is:

"Failure to connect to SQLServer with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect"

Does anybody knows what i can do?

HELP I NEED SOMEBODY TO HELP!

Thanks!

Installing MS Visual Studio 2005 (PE). On Vista X64 (BE) Running MS SQL Server 2005 (DE) X64

Feb 10, 2008

Hi, I am running SQL Server 2005 x64 DE on Vista x64. I installed MS VS 2005 Pro. Edition. During the setup of VS, I did a custom install, un-checking the SQL Express addition box. After installation, I received errors that indicated the SQL Express did not install. Even though I do not have SQL Express installed on my machine, MS Update says that I need SQL Express SP2. My SQL DE is up to date with SP2 and MS Update indicates as "optional" that I need SQL SP2.

Is SQL Express a necessity for VS Pro? If not, why is MS Update indicating that I need SQL Express SP2? In addition, why is MS Update telling me I need SQL SP2 when it is already installed?

Note: I installed SQL SP2 manually, not through MS Update. This makes me believe that MS Update is not detecting it.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help,

Abel

SQL Server 2005 Express And Visual Studio 2005 Standard

Jul 9, 2006

Hi everyone,I am trying to connect to SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services from Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition.  I have SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition but it took up so much space and resources on my computer that I didn't want to put it back on there.  So I put the SQL Express on there and while the Management Studio application connects just fine, VS 2005 will not.  Oddly enough, VS 2005 connected just fine to SQL 2005 Standard.  I have enabled shared memory, named pipes and TCP/IP.  I have set up SQL Express to accept remote connections on named pipes and TCP/IP.  And I have tried running SQL Express as the Local System Account, as a Local Service and as a Network Service.  Nothing.  I have tried feeding the Server Name is the Data Connections dialog in Visual Studio my SQL Express instance as (local)/SQLEXPRESS, localhost/SQLEXPRESS, and {computername}/SQLEXPRESS where {computername} is the name of my local computer which SQL Express is (allegedly) running on.  And I cannot get the list of databases on that server.There is probably something very simple that I have left out.  Can anyone see what it is?Thanks!

Sql Server 2005 (business Intelligence Development Suite ) Problem Installing Sql 2005 On Vista (vs 2008)

May 7, 2008

I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista
and I would only like to keep tools meant for sql standard 2005 reporting services etc
here is a list of my sql sp2 install package
By the way I doubled clicked sql_tools.msi and did not run as administrator
Does that make a difference? I wonder if this is a problem with vs 2008 and sql 2005......

Expired SQL 2005 Evaluation Upgrade To SQL 2005 Standard

Mar 12, 2008

I've been reading and looking over what to do for my situation for several days. I need to ask and see if I can get a clear answer.

My Scenario:
I have a SQL Server 2005 Eval installed that is currently running with live data. I need to upgrade that to a recently-purchased full version. I have several databases set up. I have ready the article 914158 that states it will fail. It's still running so I can access everything. If I restart or stop the service I'm screwed.

That do I do?

Thanks so much!

Vista SQL 2005 SP2 Client To Windows XP SQL 2005 (non-sp2) Workstation.

Apr 26, 2007

I'm trying to use SQL Management Studio to connect from a Vista SQL 2005 client w/ SP2 over to a Windows XP workstation running SQL server developer edition (non-sp2) using windows authentication.

I'm already preauthenticated by network shares to the xp workstation. This worked just fine in windows xp but stop working in vista.

After searching around, i found out that vista handles trusted authentication differently than windows xp due to changes in the SSPI. Logging in as sql authentication works fine. Logging in as windows authentication does not.

UPDATE: I found out that two workstations running vista and sql 2005 sp2 cannot connect to each other using windows trusted authentication!!!

What the heck?

UPDATE: I found out that my IIS 7.0 using ASP.NET and connecting to SQL 2005 (non sp2) on a Windows 2003 server (SP1) WILL connect to the database using trusted authentication... apparently IIS can access the credentials and pass them to the sql 2005 box just fine. My Sql 2K5 SP2 tools cannot. I'm forced to use SQL authentication to the box.

Same thing applies with a Windows XP SP2 box running SQL 2005 (non sp2).

Here is my sql server error log off of the windows xp workstation:

2007-04-26 15:41:32.34 Logon Error: 17806, Severity: 20, State: 2.

Database Compatibility Between Sql 2005 Standard V/s Sql 2005 64 Bit

Jul 24, 2006

I am a newbie developing a web site. My local machine has sql 2005 standard edition on it. The host that I am trying to use only has sql 2005 64 bit version.

would I be able to do the use the same database between the two ( i.e. once my site is running at host, would I be able to download the database on my local machine, make changes to my site and then upload again on the hose without any glitches?). In addition, how about sql express doing the same with sql 2005 64 bit.

SQL 2005 Standard With 5 CAL

May 31, 2008

Hi,

I currently use SQL 2005 express advanced. I connect to it from approx 20 pc's simultaneously and all works well. Each "client" connects with the same user, therefore I have one user setup within SQL server and then all client pc's connect to the database with the same user and password. This works well.

Owing to the database file size restriction of 4 gig, I now need to purchase full SQL 2005 Standard.

My question is, if I buy SQL 2005 Standard with 5 CAL (client access licences) does that mean that I can no longer connect my 20 client pc's to the server at the same time, even though I am only actually logging in with 1 user only?

Any help is greatly appreciated as I can't seem to get an answer to this question via microsoft at all, and a 20 user licence of full sql 2005 is beyond my budget.

many thanks

2005 Standard And RAM

Dec 13, 2007

After trawling a lot of on-line info I'm still not sure....

With current system configuration of WS2003 (64-bit) Enterprise, 8 GB RAM and SQL2005 (32-bit) Standard can SQL use all available RAM?

From my reading I have found references to SQL2005 (32-bit) Standard can access all RAM available to the OS and other references suggest that only SQL2005 (32-bit) Enterprise can do this...

All help gratefully received....

SQL 2005 On Vista

Aug 7, 2006

Has anyone managed to get SQL server 2005 standard edition working on Vista?

If I install from CD I get an error message

Error Message:

sql server setup could not connect to the database service for server confiurgration.The error was[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Shared Memory Provider:No process is on the other end of pipe.

I have then tried installing SP1 (which i understand is meant to fix some of the vista issues), but then when I then try to re-install from the CD it says the version on my PC is more up-to-date and doesnt install.

All I have in Programs - SQL server 2005 - Are the Configuration tools, not the Management studio etc.
