I am trying to upgrade SQL 2000 SP3 to SQL 2005 SP2 on a Windows 2003 server with all the latest patches. The SQL 2005 install went through like it was supposed to but when it was nearly finished it gave the message:
" there was an unexpected failiure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more info". I'm pretty new to Microsoft SQL so I looked at help and there was no information.
I've tried running setup again and keep getting the above error message. During the install the program says everthing is installed but I've noticed the Management Center is missing.
hello, what is the general consensus on installing SQL 2005. I usually run a backup of SQL 2000 dbs and then restore on SQL 2005 and change compatibility to 9.0. Is it the right way to upgrade? I'm only asking because I also did one db in-place to SQL 2005 and thought it went well until I browsed my system dbs. All of them are missing tables that usually appear in SQL 2005 system dbs. Other than that I haven't run into too many problems.
We are performing a SQL 2005 SP1 upgrade from SQL 2000 on our Windows 2003 SP1 Standard Edition.
When we run the upgrade, we got a error "Upgrade Advisor Return -1" as a pop-up window.
When we run the Upgrade Advisor separately, we get this error :
===================================
Common Language Runtime detected an invalid program.

We are in a lost for solutions. We do hope to hear from anyone asap...
I'm currently receiving the following error message whilst attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit): Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Installing performance counters. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.
This server already has an install of SQL Server 2000 as the default instance. I'm attempting to install a new named instance of SQL Server 2005.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
I am trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 SP4 to SQL Server 2005. But I am getting an error saying that " Your operating system does not meet service pack requirements for the SQL server release. Install the service pack from the Microsoft download center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=50380, and then run the SQL Server Setup again. For system requirements, see hardware and software requirements, in the readme or in SQL Server Books online."
I don't know what other service pack I would need to upgrade to again when I already have SP4 installed. Could someone tell me what I need to do next.
I am trying to upgrade an existing SQL Server 2000(SP3) instance to 2005.
In the installation process it showed me an existing component SQL Server 2000. But when I select the checkbox and hit the next button to upgrade the Database Engine I get an error
"Microsft SQL Server 2005 Error 1603. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while NextUpgradeDialog."
I am logged in as Administrator and have full permission.
Any help is appreciated.

I'm getting a Windows Installer error when attempting to run the Upgrade Advisor setup package (SQLUASetup.exe). The error message reads:
"This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service. You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service."
The machine is running Windows 2000 sp4. Both the .net framework v2 and Windows Installer 3.0 have been installed.
I got the following error using either NT or SQL Login ('sa') that are sysadmin in my SQL 2005 instance:
Your Account information could not be verified for one or more instances. Ensure that you can connect to all the selected instances using the account information provided. To process further deselect the instances to which connectivity cannot be established.
However, I would login to SQL 2005 named instance, either NT or SQL login 'sa' without any problems to do anything I want because both are sysadmin.
<PS> Note that my default SQL instance in my local server is SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 named instance.
Unable to connect to server. Reason: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. What are the possible reasons this error is occurring?
I'm receiving an error when i'm trying to setup a maintenance plan. I'm getting weird errors (and cannot continue) and i'm thinking it's related to a 32 bit error i received during installation on a 64 bit edition.
Background We have a sql server behind hosted on a dedicated 64 bit box out of SanFran. The hosting company installed the 32 bit version of SqlServer 2005 standard on the box and I requested them to remove it and put the 64 bit edition on. They removed the 32 bit edition and installed the 64 bit edition. So far so good. I installed sp1 and that was fine. I then tried to start a MAINTENCE PLAN and was denied -> the component was not installed. I've asked them to install the component and they did, but they recorded an error during the install. The error screen shot is here: http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5089/errormessagehs4.png
Now i cannot drop any tasks onto the maintenence plan ... so i'm assuming it's related to the above error. Is there any way i can determine what the 32 bit component is, remove it and re-install the correct component? Is there an error log somewhere where i can check things?
This is stopping me from setting up any backup plans :(
I'm trying to install SQL 2005 Server onto a Windows XP Professional SP2 workstation. Whenever the splash.hta program is run an error with a header of "Internet Explorer Script Error" comes up where the error is "Dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed". It asks if I want to continue running scrips on this page and no matter what I click, it will open up the menu screen. I then click on server components to install and get the same error just on a different file and it will not continue past that. These script errors do not occur on another workstation.
I downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Evaluation setup .exe. When I wen to install it by clicking "SQLEVAL.EXE", I received an eror stating "There is not enough space on Drive C: to extract this package.
I have over 50 gig of available spac eon my C drive. What gives?
When I downloaded the .exe, I had the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect enabled. Could that have caused it? Also, 2 days ago, I installed MS-Accounting 2007. Could that have caused a problem?
I have seen this error posted on the SS2005 forums and the standard response is to look at the installation logs. I have no logs. The extraction never completed.
I have installed Feb 2006 CTP Vista Build 5308,but when i install SQL Server 2005,it crashed.

I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (x86) on my laptop when a setup failure message would show up at the end. When I clicked for more details it has the followings:
Product Version 9.00.3042.00 Message Source setup.rll Message ID 50000 EvtType sharedsetupsharedsetupactions.cpp
And later when I tried to uninstall it from Add/Remove Program the screen would simply flash when I click but nothing happens.
Please let me know what do I need to install the piece correctly, thanks!
I successfully installed SQL Server 2005 SP1 on one PC. When I attempt to install it on a second PC, however, I get the following obscure error:
Unexpected Error Occurred The following unexpected error occurred:
That's right, there's nothing else listed, other an OK button. D'oh! When I press the OK button, the following error report dialog box appears:
Hotfix.exe A recently applied update, NULL, failed to install.
There are no pending updates that I'm aware of, as I just booted the PC. I sent the error report.
I notice on this particular PC that the SP1 install EXE is expanding/writing to an external SCSI drive; would that make a difference? I don't see a way to specify a different (i.e., internal ATA drive).
I am trying to install SQl Server 2005 SP2 but it was throwing an unexpected error when trying to install "setup support files".

I am running a named instance of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, side by side with named instance of SQL Server 2000 in Windows Server 2003. When I start the installation. I am unable to proceed from authentication stage.
The error description for Database Services and Reporting Services under both sa and windows authentication mode is: Encryption not supported on client Sqlcmd error: Microsoft SQL Native client: Client Unable to establish connection
In Service Manager, all SQL Server 2005 services are running with Logon as Administrator, and I am also able to connect to SSAS, SSRS, SSIS via Management studio both via Windows authentication and sa account information.
Would you please inform if I have to change any security settings before SP2 installation here.
How to add myself a Sql Server Administrator. The link in Surface Area Configuration to Add new Administrator doesn't work.
Hi, I've just tried to install SQL Server 2005 Standard and I'm getting an error that I can't find any information on. In the log, I find Error 29503. A message after it indicates that it couldn't start the server.
I can't install SQL 2005 Delveloper edition and show error with MSXML component
It shows these massage:
