SQL 2005 Service Problem

Feb 14, 2007

I have a strange problem. I'm trying to start the sql server service and the server agent under a domain account but the services are not starting. If i use the same domain account for the browser service it will start just fine. This account is part the the local admin group. I'm not sure why this wouldnt start if the browser service is starting?

Any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 Has Not Upgraded Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools

Mar 18, 2008

Hi,
I understand from previous threads that installing SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 on the desktop client can speed up the response rate of the Visual Studio 2005 Business Intelligence Tools.

However after logging on as an administrator and installing Service Pack 2, Service Pack 2 returned no errors. However after launching Visual Studio and clicking on the about dialog box the version reported was still €œRTM.050727-4200€? where I was expecting to see €œSP.050727-7600€?.

I understood that I applied the same service pack to my copy of SQL Server on my laptop and the upgrade worked successfully.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,

Kieran.

MSSQL 2005 Vs. Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1

Mar 14, 2007

Hi,
for some reason, when I've installed visual studio 2005, I didn't install also SQL server.
Than I've updated VS with Service Pack 1 (thank god, I was trying unsucesfully for about 2 weeks :/ ).

Than I want to install MSSQL 2005 and an error came up:

Message displayed to user
SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme.
SQL Server Setup has detected that the following required component is not installed: Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1. To proceed, download and install the Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=50380 , and then run SQL Server Setup again.

1. The http link leads to main page of MS Download Centre.
2. I have Installer 3.1. (version of file c:windowssystem32msiexec.exe said so)
3. I really do not have any beta version of any mentioned SW. I never had.

So I think the issue could be, that installer is checking for not updated version of Visual Studio.
(I was searching through net/msdn and seems no one had this problem (maybe wrong keywords, though) ).

I'm running setup.exe from CD1.

Uninstalling of VS Service Pack 1 is not an option. I really don't want to spent another week by installing it.
Please tell that there is some another way :) .
Thanks a lot.

Install Sql 2005 Instance With Reporting Service 2005 On Sql 2000 With RS 2000 Server

Aug 18, 2006

Hi

We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.

If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?

Please help us.

Age At Time Of Service - SQL 2005

Feb 4, 2008

I need help with the following field:

'Age @ TOS' = DATEDIFF (YY, patientprofile.birthdate, patientvisitprocs.dateofservicefrom),

PatientProfile.Birthdate - 01/01/2001
PatientVisitProcs.dateofservicefrom = 07/01/2001

In my report, I get a '0' as my Age @ TOS. What I would like to have is 7 months vs the '0' it is reporting. I would like to try accomplishing this without doing a function if possible. I know I used YY in my DATEDIFF. I only noticed this today because of a few patients in my DB were under 1 yr at the TOS.

Accessing A Web Service Using Clr In SQL 2005

Aug 13, 2007

I need to access a billing webservice from SQL. I createde a new c# class project and made a web refrence to the web service "ProdBilling".

Here is the code of my assembly

using System.Data;
using Microsoft.SqlServer.Server;
using System.Data.SqlTypes;
namespace PaymentProc
{
public class PaymentProc
{
[Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure]
public static void ChargeCard(int account, int amount)
{
string Response;
ProdBilling.Service serv = new ProdBilling.Service();
Response = serv.ChargeCard(account, amount);
SqlContext.Pipe.Send(Response);
}
}
}

I then ran WSDL

wsdl /oaymentProc.cs /naymentProc http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc/PaymentProc.asmx

Then compliled

csc /target:library PaymentProc.cs

and added the assembly
CREATE ASSEMBLY PaymentProc from 'D:ProdCodePaymentProc.dll' WITH
PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE

I cannot figure out how to refrence the chargecard method

I have tried

CREATE PROCEDURE PaymentProc
@Account int,
@Amount int
AS
EXTERNAL NAME PaymentProc.[PaymentProc.PaymentProc].ChargeCard

It seems wsdl.exe put all this serialization code

namespace PaymentProc {
using System.Diagnostics;
using System.Web.Services;
using System.ComponentModel;
using System.Web.Services.Protocols;
using System;
using System.Xml.Serialization;

///
[System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("wsdl", "2.0.50727.42")]
[System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute()]
[System.ComponentModel.DesignerCategoryAttribute("code")]
[System.Web.Services.WebServiceBindingAttribute(Name="ServiceSoap", Namespace="http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc")]
public partial class PaymentProc : System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol {

private System.Threading.SendOrPostCallback ChargeCardOperationCompleted;

///
public PaymentProc()
{
this.Url = "http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc/PaymentProc.asmx";
}

///
public event ChargeCardCompletedEventHandler ChargeCardCompleted;

///
[System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapDocumentMethodAttribute("http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc/ChargeCard", RequestNamespace="http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc", ResponseNamespace="http://ProdWeb1/PaymentProc", Use=System.Web.Services.Description.SoapBindingUse.Literal, ParameterStyle=System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped)]
public string ChargeCard(int account, int amount) {
object[] results = this.Invoke("ChargeCard", new object[] {
account,
amount});
return ((string)(results[0]));
}
.................

When I run

CREATE PROCEDURE PaymentProc
@Account int,
@Amount int
AS
EXTERNAL NAME PaymentProc.[PaymentProc.PaymentProc].ChargeCard

I get error

Method, property or field 'ChargeCard' of class 'PaymentProc.PaymentProc' in assembly 'PaymentProc' is not static.

Any ideas? This seemsed so straitforward in the beginning.

Removing SQL 2005 Express Service

Jan 18, 2008

I read on MSDN how to manually uninstall the instance of SQL server 2005 express, however i am not sure that it will remove the service. The reason i need to do this is that an application i have installed SQL Server 2005, and also QPulse5 SQL Server. I have two instances and it is giving me compile issues which i believe is related to having both services. I did add/remove programs and reinstalled just SQL Server 2005 and recieved error message saying that the service failed to start. The whole problem of this occured when we ran DCPromo with SQL installed. After we did we relized you could not promote with SQL Server. I understand that it is not recommended running SQL Server on a DC, however we did not have a choice. I am hoping someone here may have a solution for this. If there is any other information you need just let me know. Thanks

Following is the error message recorded in the event viewer.
---------------
SQL Server is terminating because of fatal exception c0000005. This error may be caused by an unhandled Win32 or C++ exception, or by an access violation encountered during exception handling. Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart).

Please tell me what steps i should take to resolve it.

Meltdown Of SQL Server 2005 Service

Aug 30, 2007

We are using SQL Server 64 bit edition and windows Server 2003 Server. Sometimes, the SQL server takes most of the CPU time (99 to 100 %) and memory (7 + GB out of 8 GB RAM) and would not respond to user request. At this point of time, we would not be able to connect to SQL server/execute any query using the existing connection or start/stop service. This continues for 15 mins to 4 hours and after that it started working nicely. I could not find any information in the event viewer. When this happened, I have checked our processing log that none of the job/queries related with the application is running on our SQL Server. This happens once in 3 weeks or sometime once in 2 weeks.

In one of our application log, at point of meltdown I€™ve got the below message.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Time-out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 3 for page (1:647040), database ID

Since this our production server, users across the world are getting frustrated.

I couldn€™t find any information related to his in any website

Can you anyone help me?

SQL 2005, Service Broker And XML Compression

Sep 28, 2007

We have a number of large binary xml messages. I would like to compress the XML before converting to VARBINARY as much as possible. What is the recommended way to handle this if the conversions are happening in TSQL? I will also need to be able to decompress in .NET code, so I'm wondering if the best way is to just use CLR Integration for the marshaling routines, rather than building the marshaled structure in SQL. Any suggestions on reducing the XML payload size for extremely large messages?

Presently the no of stores is 300 and it would eventually more than 600+ shortly.

What would be the best option to use in this scenario?

I am told that for more than 600 stores the replications would serioulsy impact the performance and SSB would be more advisable.

Now i am newbie on SSB and would like to know from the experts whether its a correct way of implementation

SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1

Apr 19, 2006

Is there no "passive" install mode for SP1 (gui but no user input required)? I can run unattended using the /quiet switch but this gives me absolutely no feedback as to progress or success/failure of the install. It also returns to the command prompt immediately whilst kicking of msiexec in the background, meaning I can't trap any errorlevel. How are we supposed to check success or failure in applying the SP for unattended installs? For rolling this out across an enterprise we need something, usually hotfix.exe has a passive install mode.

thx, Simon.

SQL 2005 Clusters And Service Accounts

Nov 21, 2007

I have been reading through many postings here, through the MS SQL Server Unleashed book by SAMS, the MS SQL Tech article "Failover clustering for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services" for installing a brand new SQL 2005 2 node cluster.

So far I have not found the definitive answer that I am looking for and that is, what rights does the SQL service account need to work properly? One article states that it needs both Domain Admin permissions and local admin permissions (and this is a domain account by the way) and then another article states that it only needs domain users group permissions and the least amount of privledges possible.

Can anyone please tell me what is correct for installation and running the server? The more I read about this the more confused I get.

Please be patient as I am brand new to SQL.

Thank you very much!

Another serious problem, after failing to stop the service, I decided to re-start the server. The SQL Server looks like just dead but looking at the service is stop and in the configuration manager SQL Server State "Change Pending....". Don't know what is wrong. Please kindly advise!

Regards,

LG
