our company is looking for a good training for SQL server 2005. Majority of attendies will be .NET developers, but some will be technicians who need backup, replication, maint., etc. training. All are pretty familiar with sql server and have experience with SQL 2000. So, it should not be for beginners. Intermediate and advance topics.
Whom you can suggest? Do you have experience with them?

I am wondering is there any way to select only a portion of a data set to train the mining model? In this case, I mean we dont need to split the dataset in advance, what I want to do is being able to select any random portion of a selected dataset to train a mining model. Any advices?

I have a problem of configuration in SQL server 2005 express train. In fact, I do not know how to make the configuration to tackle the databases SQL server 2005 express train which are on a station has starting from a station B (both being in a network LAN).
But I read in the module of €œconfiguration of the surface of exposure for the services and connections - localhost€? that €œBy defect, the editions Express train, Evaluation and Developer SQL SERVER 2005 authorize only local connections.€?. As it is BY DEFECT, I said myself that it will have to be changed a parameter so that access TCP/IP can go on this version of SQL SERVER.
Here is the message which I have:

I have just installed Microsoft OLEDB provider for DB2 on a SQL server 2005. I created a Linked server against our DB2 V.8 Z/OS database. I tested the connection via execution of a simple select call, something like:
SELECT FIELD_A FROM DB2SRV.DB2DB.CREATOR_A.TABLE_A
WHERE FIELD_A='ABC'
I traced the call on the DB2 site. The SQL running on DB2 site was to my surprise without the €œwhere clause€?:
SELECT FIELD_A FROM DB2DB.CREATOR_A.TABLE_A
So, all rows are moved to SQL server before the where clause is executed, resulting in bad performance. The index on FIELD_A is not used and so on €¦ !
If anyone out there has an idea of what could be wrong, please let me know!
NB. I know that by using OPENQUERY pass-through query, all execution is done on the DB2 site.
I am trying to recreate the same functionality Google has in regards tosuggesting words (not names), when you misspell something it comes upwith suggestions.We have a list of words in the database to match against.I've looked at SOUNDEX but it is not close enough, DIFFERENCE is evenworse.The only way I can get SOUNDEX to be more accurate is withSELECT [word]FROM [tbl_word]WHERE ( SOUNDEX( word ) = SOUNDEX( 'test' ) AND LEN( word) = LEN('test' ) )I've been looking at Regular Expression matching which I reckon wouldprovide more accurate matches. Now a customer asks me to install my application on an already existant instance of SQL Server standard edition.I was not able to use nor my application, neither a HelloWorld example.I created a simple Default.aspx that uses a simple database with a single table "Person" via a standard gridview. Why I always fail to manually train a model in Management Studio?
ZhaoHui Tang recommends me to untrain the model first. So I untrained it like this.
DELETE FROM Decision_Tree.CONTENT
Then I train it like this.
INSERT INTO Decision_Tree
(Age, Bike_buyer, Customer_Id, Gender)
OPENQUERY ([AdventureWorksDW], 'SELECT Age, Bike_buyer, Customer_Id, Gender FROM Training_table');
The error message is
Error (Data mining): The mining structure , Decision_Tree is already trained and does not
support incremental updates. Before using the INSERT INTO statement, use DELETE FROM <object>.
Why is that so? I already untrained the model. The model has been made and processed
outside Management Studio, i.e., in the Visual Studio.

I am writing Stock inventory and POS application.
POS will be used at multiple branches to collect sales, whereby Stock Inventory will be used in HQ for product info maintenance, stock in and etc.
I need to send all of the branch sales records back to HQ and send updated product info such as cost to branches everyday (could be multiple times per day).
I am thinking to use SQL Server Express 2005 at branches and SQL Server 2005 standard at HQ.
Do you think it is workable? What is the mechanism I can use to "transfer" these data?

Are there any way I can make changes to my database without stopping the web site? I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express for my web shop. And each time I have to add or change a table or Stored Procedure I have to stop the site. What I do is to stop the web site (in IIS), restart the IIS and then open the database in the SQL Server 2005 Express Management tool. If I don't "release" the file first I get an error when I try to open the database file in the Management tool.But there must be a better way to do things? I also would like to take bacup of the database without stopping the site, but how? There must be others that have had the same problems? Regards, Sigurd

Later I go to post this to a real web server - which runs the 'full' MS SQL2005 server. What happens to the ASPNETDB.MDF file (or for that matter, any other MDF file I create with SQL Express) when it leaves the Express world and enters the Real world.

I moved all my databases to sql server 2005 & when appliction is trying to connect to 2005 databases i get the following error
In the connection string i am using

I installed SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, I can login to it just fine using SQL Server Management Studio Express. I ran the aspnet_regsql and it created the aspnetdb database. But when I try to test the AspNetMembershipProvider or go to the Security tab in the ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool it does not work. I have tried messing with the connectionString of the LocalSqlServer in the machine.config, but to no avail. My SQL Server is installed on the Default Instance. Can someone help me get ASP.NET Web Site Administrator to work with my SQL Server 2005 Express Edition?

On my VWD 2005 Express, I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express databases in the App_Data folder.I kind of remember these 2 databases were installed from Wrox web site or a zip file. Now we still useSQL Server 2000 databases for our ASP.net applications. I have downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express.These 2 databases in the App_Data folder seem to work fine although I can not see them from theManagement Studio Express.
My question is: How do I 'manually' create a new SQL Server 2005 database into the App_Data folder?

He has few windowsboxes with some webfile and (most important) - mssql database. And heasks for a backup. I found some company, which offers us IBM's Tivolisoftware, but my opinion is that they want a little bit too much forit and also, from my *nix experiece, I know there should be manyother products, probably cheaper and better. If not - we will usethat Tivoli. So we need to backup mssql data and some filessomewhere.
